#7 of Unusual Love

Lucy was still shaking when Jim drove her home. The things that had just happened were too much to bear for her, and she wasn't sure how to react. She had seen her boyfriend stabbed, her friend Mark beaten into a coma, and Lucy herself had tackled her best friend Cindy. What had started as the best day of her life turned into her worst in a matter of seconds.

"Lucy... Lucy... Lucy!" called Jim.

" Huh, wha?"

" We're here. This is your house, right?" Jim had helped her to the door and carried her bags before Lucy was aware of what was happening. " Come on, I know what happened was pretty bad, but Sam'll be okay. He's had worse."

(Worse? What could be worse than being stabbed in the heart?) Lucy thought. Then, she remembered the game she bought, and said," Do you think we can make one more trip?" Jim was a little confused, but he said okay.

(plot hole)

Lucy was trying to set up Sam's gaming console in her house when constant reminders of what had just happened spontaneously burst into her head, forcing tears to her eyes every time. She was able to get an idea of how to set it up by looking at the wires, but her trembling hands made it difficult. ( I-I have to take my mind off of things.) she thought, steadying herself.

She reached into one of her bags and pulled out the one with the game in it. As she looked at it, she wondered what it was about. Then she thought Sam could help her. This sent her into another crying fit. She took was about to take the wrapper off with her claws, when she saw that she was drenched in blood. Sam's blood. This time, instead of tears, an overwhelming sense of horror dominated her before she could think. " I... need to take a shower" she said aloud.

/////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

After the quick bath and a change of clothes, she resumed trying to take the wrapper off the game. When she got it open, her next challenge was trying to get it in the device. After about five minutes, she noticed a button with a symbol similar to the one on her computer that turned it on. She pressed it in and a red light came on. ( You have to be a genius to figure this thing out!). She put the disc in the opening and turned on the television to see a control panel. Lucy scanned through the icons and found herself learning a little more about Sam.

Eventually, she picked the game icon and it started up. "Now, let's do this right... for Sam." She watched the opening sequence and was amazed at how real it looked. At the menu, she chose a new game, and picked two player. She designed her character to be just like her. Petite, white fur, and just for fun, she wanted to be a wizard. Then, she made Sam's character. She made him tall, long hair, and a knight because that's how she saw him.

Lucy stared at the characters for a while, not even playing. Before long, more tears came out accompanied by a knock at the door. Lucy lifted her head to see her cheery mom at the door. However, her smile went away fast as Lucy explained the situation. It was only a few minutes before they were off to the hospital.

(plot hole)

Lucy's mom guided her towards the front desk and asked for Sam's room number. Lucy was so distraught that she only heard "... out of surgery....anesthetic... 363."

As they walked to the room, they noticed doctors walking in the opposite direction mumbling about something. " I can't believe that was so complicated, I mean, I have never in my 20 years of practicing medicine seen a blood type like that. It wasn't human, nor was it anthro. It was like he was another species." another doctor chimed in,"How could you do the surgery without a blood transfusion? Isn't that impossible?" The first doctor continued,"We thought so too, but we had to fix him up. It was odd, however, that his cuts were fatal but he didn't die. It's like... his blood was being held in by something."

The shocking realization hit Lucy ( They're talking about Sam!) She had to ask," Umm... is he going to be alright?" She felt her voice tremble despite her efforts to control it.

The older doctor examined her for a second, then said," Of course young lady. He's a stubborn one, I doubt he would've died if he had been shot in the head! I know it's so soon after surgery, but he seems to be resistant to our medicines, so he may be awake. I believe he's waiting for you, Lucy."

Lucy was thrown off, but she nodded with a thank you and was now dragging her mom to the room. She let go of her and and Lucy ran full speed into the door, bursting it open. She stood in the doorway for a second and stared. Sam was lying their with wrappings around his chest and hands. He had a questioning look on his face as he stared back. He broke the silence," What's the matter? Did they come after you again!? Bastards-" He tried to get out of the bed.

" No no no no! Don't move! You're hurt still-" Lucy was cut off.

" What are you talking about? This is just a flesh wound, I've had much worse. Now then, where are my pants?" He stopped to look around the room," Argh, I really liked those pants." Lucy was thrilled. She stumbled over to his bedside and hugged him tightly. He returned the hug, and said," See? Everything's fine. Now, if you could just lift your elbow off of my cuts that'd be great."

Lucy lifted her arms, but didn't loosen the tight embrace. Her mom finally made it to the room," Well mister hero! How are you feeling?" Sam let out a weak laugh and Lucy didn't notice a thing. She was trapped in her own little world. " I heard you saved my daughter's life, you have my thanks."

Sam came back with a witty comment," Oh? Is Lucy here? I'd really like to show her my new 90 pound shirt. It even had a tail on it, and white fur like hers. I really think she would like it." Lucy's mom giggled as Lucy let go, wiping her tears on her sleeve. " I'm telling you, the way people act around here you would think I was going to die. Sure, the painkillers don't work and they had to use dangerous levels of that gas stuff but seriously, what the hell?"

Lucy spoke up," Th-they said that they didn't have your blood type. Is that because of your parents?" Lucy's mom took some interest. " If it is because of that, couldn't they have mixed human and anthro blood together? And why are you so calm?"

Sam chuckled," If that were so, I wouldn't have had any complications. No, I'm afraid that I have bad luck when it comes to medical things. And I'm calm because I have nothing to fear. The grim reaper is afraid of me." He ended with an even louder laugh than before. Lucy was just happy that he didn't die. ( But... what have I done? If I had never met him...) " If you had never met me, you would have failed that math test. Oh, and people would keep asking you out nonstop. I would've been stabbed some time anyways. People don't like my face."

//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

Much to Lucy's surprise, Sam was released from the hospital on Sunday ( the next day, if you haven't been paying attention) and the first thing he did was come to her house. When Lucy ran to answer his knock at the door, she noticed how pale he was. She freaked out a bit, but Sam reassured her by saying that he doesn't tan well. Lucy's mom greeted him as well and said," You sure you should be walking around like that? You were just let out of the hospital after all."

Sam smiled than said," If I had stayed there for another day, I would miss a chance to see your smiling faces." Lucy's mom was satisfied with that answer and left the two alone. "Now, I'm pretty sure that you have no idea how to play that game. I don't either, but I pick up these thing pretty quickly. Come on, let's have some fun."

Lucy led Sam over to the living room and she snuggled in closely on the couch. She noticed that when he came in, he was carrying a bag. Inside was a beat up controller. "Ol' Faithful" he called it. Lucy started up the game and they got started. Sam did pick it up quickly, but Lucy was catching on. After a while, they came up to a boss level. Lucy was getting beat up, but Sam blocked for her a few times ( Just like in real life!) she thought. Soon, both of their characters were about to die when Sam said," Remember how I told you to not use all of your mana? Pretend I didn't say it. Now is the time in a game to go psycho and let everything out."

Lucy did as he said and even he went crazy with his knight. In a matter of seconds, the boss was defeated. Lucy threw her hands in the air with joy, letting her controller fly through the air. She noticed it as soon as Sam reached over to catch it.

"You don't celebrate much, do you?" he asked.

Lucy smiled and hugged him again, licking his cheek. ( This is great!) she thought to herself with a stupid grin on her face. " "New semester tomorrow," Lucy snapped back to reality,"I bet it'll be fun." Sam finished with a smirk.

(Oh crap! I forgot!)

Awww, how nice. I didn't kill off my favorite character. And they seem to be relaxing more now that everything is all nice and pretty. Or is it? How will the new semester start? Will Lucy have any of her old friends to lean on for support? Was Mark caught and arrested? Am I about to pass out from exhaustion? Find out next time. WHengildznnnnnnnkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk
