Tora- Problems Solved
#19 of Tora
Wow, these few weeks have flown by on my end. Shoot, I didn't even do anything on my birthday week. I've been distracted by everything. It's so unreal. And I mean everything! I think it shows a little like halfway through. I've been watching videos, listening to tunes for hours, playing SSBB and Capcom vs Tatsunako. Plus I've been reading lots of manga and that wasn't helping at all. Second fair warning here, there will be things going on that are mentioned in the tags. *waits for you to read the tags* So that's gonna be going on. I went with the dark approach this chapter. I won't bore you with anything else, so start reading. Remember, Comments and Votes are welcome and appreciated.

Tora sat on the bed desperately trying to think of a way to let the nurse know that this strange man was lying about Lani being stolen from him and praying that Chris didn't come back yet. It didn't help that she looked nervous either, because Nurse Joy was starting to suspect that she knew what was going on. She heard the weavile snicker under its breath. Turning to face the dark creature, she saw it had a smirk on its face. Just that smirk alone ticked her off because she now knew this was some kind of setup. "Want to clue me in as to what's so funny?"
"You are," he replied. "I think it's hilarious that you keep on fidgeting over something you can't change. You should be a good pokémon and wait patiently for your trainer to come back."
"You should just shut up!" she snapped back. "Why are you doing this? You know damn well that she was never stolen from you!"
"Chill out, babe. We're just taking back what belongs to us. Hey, tell me something. What do you really know about her? You've known her for what, almost two months and you think you're the best of friends? Get real. You don't know anything about that slut."
"She's not a slut! How do know so much about us anyway?!"
"It's not my place to tell," he replied smugly. "What I can tell you is that her mouth is just as good as any other cunt. And speaking of cunts, how about I try out yours and compare the two?"
"Why you-" Tora was about to lunge and rip his throat out, but the nurse and the man in the yellow shirt quickly intervened. She struggled to break free of Nurse Joy, who was using most of her weight to hold her down. The weavile was being protected by his trainer, not at all fazed by her attempted attack.
"That's right, babe. I like girls who just throw themselves at me."
"Shove it!"
"That's enough!" Joy shouted. "If you can't behave, then I'll have to put you in a cage until your trainer comes back." Tora slowly seized her struggling, but still kept a hateful glare on the weavile. She intended to make him pay for that perverted comment. Feeling that it was relatively safe now, Joy released the angry chu and turned to the man. "I'm sorry, sir, but I'm going to have to move you to another room, since these two don't seem to get along."
"It's alright. I don't want him getting too riled up around her anyway. He has a way with females that get them to... Well, I'd rather not say," he said chuckling as he rubbed his head. "Sorry, you said you moving us?"
"Yes, right this way." Joy kept a kind face as she let his comment slide and showed him out the room, leaving Tora to herself once again. With no other options, the chu was forced to sit and wait until everyone returns.
Just outside the pokémon center, the party of four have come back to retrieve the rest of their companions. With all the sight-seeing they've been doing, two hours passed by in a blink of an eye. Assuming that their pokémon were healed up by now, Chris and Alice were going to take everyone out for a well-deserved lunch. They decided on an outdoor restaurant in case another fight was to break out between Jari and his next 'opponent'. They weren't going to be responsible for tearing up a good restaurant and they don't have enough money to cover any extreme damages.
Upon entering the center, Aaron couldn't help but feel that something was off. There was a police officer talking to Nurse Joy at the front desk. Of course there was nothing strange about an officer being in a pokémon center, but the conversation looked a little too serious for it to be a casual visit. Something in his gut told him to check on Tora. When he searched for her mind, he felt panic, fear, and anxiety wash all over him.
"Something's wrong with Tora," he said. Chris immediately stopped.
"What do you mean?" he asked worriedly. Alice and April stopped as well.
"She's scared about something, and that policeman doesn't look like he's just here for a visit either." Chris was only allowed a glance before Joy pointed at him and the officer approached him.
"Excuse me; did you happen to drop off a shiny dratini to be healed?"
"Uh, yeah, is there a problem?"
"Just need to ask you some questions. Please step this way." Chris hesitantly followed the officer toward the back of the center. Aaron followed closely behind, leaving Alice to look on worriedly in the lobby.
The two were lead to an empty room. There were two chairs facing each other by the window. Chris assumed that he was supposed to sit in one of them and did so. Aaron sat next to him on the floor. The officer sat cross from him and pulled out a notepad from his pocket.
"I'm detective Dan. I'm here to investigate a possible pokémon kidnapping. You're a prime suspect in this matter and I need to ask you a few questions about your dratini." Alarms went off in both Chris' and Aarons' head.
"Wait, you think I stole my dratini?" Chris asked.
"I never said that. I only said you were a suspect. Now, where did you catch this dratini?"
"I didn't actually catch her."
"Then how did you go about obtaining her if you didn't catch her?"
"Some guy gave her to me." The detective looked at him strangely.
"You're telling me that 'some guy' just gave you a rare, on top of that, rarely-colored dratini out of the kindness of his heart?"
"Not really. He was kind of a jerk and pretty much... Dumped her on me and told me to raise her."
"Why do you think he was jerk? You just met this guy. Did he say something to make you upset? What happened between you and him?"
"Nothing really. He challenged me to a battle with an already injured pokémon, I called him on it, we argued, and he gave her to me saying that he'll beat me and my pokémon to oblivion the next time he sees me."
"That doesn't sound like nothing to me. A threat like that must've come out of some heated exchange of words. Was there any sort of violence between the two of you during the argument?" Chris was hesitant to answer that question. The answer was more likely to hurt his case than help it, but lying could prove to do even more damage. The detective noticed the hesitation and made a quick note of it.
"Well, there was just a little bit. I... Hit him after he insulted my raichu."
"Did he hit you back?"
"No. Like I said, he got up, dumped her on me, and made that threat." The detective was writing in his notebook the entire time he had been interrogating him.
"That's a strange reaction after someone got hit. Wouldn't be something I would do. How long ago did this incident take place?"
"I think it's been a little over three weeks." Dan raised his eyebrow at this.
"About three weeks? Are you sure about that?" Chris nodded. Dan reached into one of his pockets and pulled out a photograph. "Then how do you explain this?" he asked as he handed it to Chris. Chris looked over the picture and couldn't believe what he was seeing. "As you can see, the guy here, Mr. Adam Blake, is with his pokémon and the date on this photograph signifies that it was taken a couple days ago. Now unless this picture was altered in some sort of way, I'd say your story makes about as much sense as someone catching a moltres."
"Someone apparently did today because that's not the guy who gave me my dratini and there's no way that she could've taken this picture a couple days ago," Chris replied as he handed back the photograph. Dan gave him another funny look.
"This isn't the guy who gave you his pokémon?"
"Nope. I don't even know how that picture could've been taken a couple days ago, if she was with me the whole time." The detective thought about his statement for a moment before getting up and heading to the door.
"If what you're saying is true, then everything I've been told is wrong. I'm a detective, which means I find out the truth before making the final judgment. Now that I have statements from you and the man you've seen in the photograph, I'll need to do some sleuthing around for more evidence. Don't go anywhere, or you'll look even more suspicious to me than you do now." With that being said, Detective Dan left the room.
Chris was a little nervous, but mostly confused as to who and why someone would accuse him of stealing Lani. He didn't know anyone that would have that kind of grudge against him other than the trainer who gave her to him. If he were here, then why didn't he just battle him instead of going through all this trouble to get him arrested? It didn't make any sense to him.
"Calm down," Aaron said. "From what I gathered in your memory, he doesn't seem like the type to go out of his way to hire someone to steal back Lani from you."
"I know, but why would that guy... You just went through my memories?"
"Focus, Chris. Someone is obviously trying to steal Lani from you. The first thing we need to do is find the man in the photograph. I'm pretty sure that he's somewhere nearby."
"Right, but we can't go anywhere. My side of the story's not looking so good."
"Correction," Aaron stated. "He told you not to go anywhere. While I'm gone, just make sure that you keep your story straight if that detective returns. I'll be back soon." Aaron teleported into another room, similar to the one he just left. Sitting on the examining bed, he saw Tora lying on her belly. "Hi sweetie." The chus' ears suddenly perked up and she looked over the side of her bed.
"Aaron? Where's Chris?" she exclaimed as she jumped down in a panic. "Some guy is trying to take Lani away."
"I know," Aaron replied. "I just came by to let you know that everything is fine and I'm going to take care of this. Don't let anyone take Lani's ball."

Meanwhile, another interrogation was taking place in another part of Kanto. Chad sighed at the sight before him. His hostage had ten nails shoot in his body; one in each of his feet, two in both his upper arms, one in his right forearm, two in his left thigh, and one on the left one. A few actually pierced bone. None of the nails hit any major arteries, but the wounds were bleeding quite badly. There were toothpicks in all his fingers and two were in one of his thumbs. The man was panting heavily as he tried to steel himself for more pain. His hands were numb and trembling, his legs felt like they were about to explode, and he couldn't feel his toes anymore. He was surprised that he was still conscious after all he's been through.
"Here's what I learned so far," Chad began. "It took me ten perfectly good nails just to get you to tell me your name, which is damn awful by the way. It took ten toothpicks to get you to spill what you do for a living. You like to make fake IDs and steal from society. Now, I could make it so you look like fucking Hellraiser, but unfortunately for me, you'd be dead and all this would be a huge waste of my time. So, I ask you again, Dez Nuts, where did he take my fucking dratini?"
The man known as Dez Nuts spat some blood he had in his mouth in Chad's face. "Up yours," he said defiantly. Chad retaliated by grabbing the hammer on his left and smashed the nail in Dez' foot. Dez shouted as the severe pain made his whole body to flinch, causing the embedded metal to scrape against sensitive nerves and add to the pain he was already in. He could've sworn he saw stars for a moment.
"All this could've been avoided if you had just cooperated from the start. Just tell me what I need to know and you're free to go." Dez mustered up the best 'wtf' face he could make.
"The hell... you talking about? You're gonna... let me out of here... just like that? I could go... straight to the police... and have them on your ass... faster than you can take a piss."
"You could, but I'm not worried about that," Chad replied. "You have to get out of the house first. I don't think you're going to get very far with all those nails in you. Even if you did somehow manage to get out of this house, you'll most likely collapse in the forest from the trauma you're body is going through. I just hope the wild pokémon are more merciful than I am when they eat you alive." There wasn't any sarcasm in his voice when he spoke. He put the nail gun down and turned the kettle off. He then grabbed a large pan off the shelf and placed it under Dez' feet, which caused Dez to shout again. Chad then grabbed the hammer and took out all the nails in his foot, each one earning a grunt from their host, and then his shoes and socks.
"Dez, inside this kettle is cooking oil. I'm not gonna beat around the bush here; this next part will be extremely painful if you don't tell me what I want to know." Dez stared defiantly at Chad, but not before looking at the kettle and thinking over his current predicament. "Tell you what; I'll make it a little easier on you, since I'm a nice guy and all. Shade, come here for a sec." Chad was almost starting to enjoy torturing the man. It made him feel like he was releasing all his pent-up rage and doing nearly everything he fantasized about doing to his 'employer'.
Almost instantly, a gengar floated up through the floor with the wicked, ever-present grin on its face. The ghost's laugh was very unsettling for Dez. He almost wished that he'd just die already. "Is there anything I can help with?" Shade asked.
"Yeah, I need you to block all the pain in his body." The gengar laughed and complied. He went over to the interrogated and literally placed his purple claws inside his brain. Dez suddenly felt chills go from his head down his spine, before he felt nothing at all. There were no chills, no pain, and he could actually breathe normally once he calmed down. The ghostly goblin laughed again. "You feel like talking now?" Chad asked.
"You think that doing this is gonna get me to talk; a brief intermission before you begin again? What makes you think I even know where he keeps your stupid pokémon anyway?"
"I know because if you didn't, you wouldn't look like you're trying to keep a secret. My gardevoir could've extracted the information from you if you had cooperated with her when she captured you. She's not the type to take things by force, which is why I'm here. If you really didn't know anything, then you wouldn't be here. Now," Chad said as he grabbed the kettle and poured the oil in the pan and on Dez' feet. The oil popped and sizzled as soon as it hit his open wounds. All three of them watched as Dez' feet rapidly turned from being pale to a dark red color. The smell of cooking flesh hit their nostrils, save for Shade. "You have about ten seconds before I tell my gengar to let you go and have you can feel your feet being cooked. Ten... Nine..." Dez didn't move. "Eight... Seven... Six..." Shade started laughing, obviously looking forward to seeing the human scream and squirm. "Five... Four... This smells like it's really gonna hurt. Three... Two... On-"
"Ecruteak City!" Dez screamed. Chad raised an eyebrow, while Shade frowned. "He's going to Ecruteak City! That's what he told me when he hired me to drug you. He said something about checking on things in the Johto branch for a while! That's the truth, I swear!" The entire time he was saying this, he was looking at his now cooked, severely blistered, purplish, feet.
"Is he telling the truth, Shade?" The frown and angry mumbling from the ghost was proof enough that he was telling the truth. "I see. Well then, thanks for cooperating with us. This hasn't been a complete waste of time after all." Chad got up and opened the door to leave.
"Wait! Aren't you gonna let me go?! Or kill me?!"
"Maybe you didn't get the memo, but I'm no killer. Shade... You're in charge. Don't forget to clean up this time." The gengar's laugh sounded eerie and downright unpleasant when he said this. The last thing he heard before he closed the door was a loud, earsplitting scream accompanied by ghostly laughter.
Chad went upstairs and saw Cosmo at the foot of the stairs. "Where are you going?"
"First, to take a shower, then I'm going to find Miu and head to Ecruteak City. Pack my backpack and be ready to go when I come back down." He didn't wait for her to question him and went straight for his bathroom. His shower took about fifteen minutes, during which he thought about who he would take with him. He settled on his charizard, gardevoir, and one of the zangoose. He got dressed in some faded jeans and a white shirt with a large skull design on the front. Once he got fully ready he went downstairs and saw his team already assembled. Cosmo, Tilly, and Draco, his charizard, stood at the front door.
"Are you sure it's wise to leave with Frost so close to giving birth?" Cosmo asked.
"The others will see to it that she has a safe delivery. They've had enough experience, so I'm sure nothing will go wrong."
"Do you mind telling me where we're going then?"
"Miu only knows where one of her kids are, so there's only one place to go. We're going to Viridian City."

Aaron had informed Alice and April of the situation and requested their help. He input the image of the Adam Blake inside their heads to give them something to look out for. They left the center immediately and took off in opposite directions to cover as much of the city as possible. The psychic was left to search on his own, due to April's reluctance to leave her trainers' side. That was fine by him; it just meant that he could look his own way without having to be questioned. As he walked down the streets, he scanned everyone's mind for any glances/sightings of Adam in the past two hours within a fifty yard radius, even inside the shops and surrounding buildings. The surge of information was quickly sorted out and thrown away. It was at times like these where he simply amazed himself, not that there have been many situations like this.
He managed to get his first clue roughly twenty minutes into his search. He was spotted going north of a seafood restaurant about thirty minutes ago according to a woman. Aaron teleported to the place and searched through everyone's mind. The next sighting was at the park nearly fifteen minutes ago. He followed the trail until he ended up at the Pewter City Museum. "So this is where he is," Aaron thought. "I'll just need to confirm his location and let Alice know where I am. But first, I need a disguise. I don't think they'll allow a pokémon walking around without their trainer nearby."
Aaron went around to a more isolated part of the building and transformed into a human. He stood five-foot ten inches with dark brown skin. His hair was black and cut to a medium fade. He wore dark blue jean shorts, white shoes, and a black shirt with a picture of a blond elf in a green tunic holding a sword and shield. Aaron looked himself over and nodded in approval. "I haven't worn this disguise since that big convention in Johto. I should tell Alice that I found him." It didn't take him too long to find her mind. "Alice, it's Aaron, I think I've found him."
"You did? Where are you?" she asked.
"I'm at the museum Get over to the museum as fast as you can. I'll follow him until you get here and update you if anything changes."
"Right, we'll be right over in half an hour." With that out of the way, he only had to find Adam and tail him until Alice showed.
"Now, time to go to work."
Aaron teleported inside one of the restroom stalls on the first floor of the museum. The restroom was empty, so he didn't worry about accidently surprising anyone. He exited the stalls and began his search. He saw quite a few people walking around, most being guided by a staff member on a tour. The place was full of fossils, bones, and statues from thousands and quite possibly millions of years ago. There were even replicas of cave paintings and ancient scrolls. Aaron was impressed with the displays, but he concentrated on finding his target.
Turning into the Mythical/Legendary section of the museum, he saw artwork, pictures, and little statues of rare and legendary pokémon all over the world. Aaron couldn't help but take interest in the gallery. Most were given a brief description and story of how they were believed to have contributed to the construction and preservation of the world and its inhabitants. Others that weren't seen as great as the others were just given a description and, more or less, common knowledge of their habits.
He read over the information provided on Ho-oh, the guardian of the skies and legendary bird of resurrection. While it was true that the fire bird could resurrect others from death, it was inaccurate to say that the bird can go about doing it anytime. The conditions for doing that sort of thing are somewhat extreme, in a sense, but also simple. The 'Sacred Ash' it's said to carry are actually the ashes of one of its parents. Ho-oh live to be about 180-200 years old and actually burst into flames when it dies. The ashes are picked up by one of its children, usually the oldest if there's more than one. The ashes are carried in a flame-retardant bag tied around their neck, to which are passed down to their offspring.
The act of resurrecting someone isn't hard. All that needs to be done is to spread some of the ashes over to deceased body and ignite them with Sacred Fire. The ashes burn with life energy and is transferred into the body of the deceased, thus resurrecting the dead back to full health. The only rule surrounding this ceremony is pretty strict. The body to be resurrected cannot have been dead for more than seven hours, no exceptions. He only knows this because a Ho-oh he knows, who he nicknamed Skittles, told him. When he asked how they acquired the bags, she told him that it was a secret. Aaron smiled to himself at the memory.
He moved on to the one about Mews. For the most part, the description about his species was right on. He still considers himself playful, easy-going, maybe not as curious as he used to be when he was younger, but he could disguise himself as a human if he wanted to. It sort of made him sad that he only has his life to confirm or deny these facts, since he has yet to encounter another of his kind.
"I see you're taking a great interest in the legendaries," someone said behind him. Aaron jumped and turned to see none other than Adam Blake and his weavile standing next to him.
"Uh, yeah, I try to learn as much as I can about them," Aaron replied.
"That's good to hear. My favorite of them all has to be Mew. It's said to be intelligent, contain the DNA of every single pokémon in the world, and can transform into any of them as well. It has the ability to project force fields, use any kind of attack, and can quite possibly turn invisible. It's pretty much an unstoppable pokémon."
"It does sound pretty unstoppable if you put it like that, but I don't think a Mew would even think of itself like that. I mean, everyone has their limit as to what they can do." Adam gave Aaron a funny look and chuckled.
"I suppose so. Given its rumored childishness, I guess it wouldn't, but, then again, we all have to grow up sometime. There could be one out there now thinking that it's the most badass thing in the world and would take on anyone to prove it. Then again, I could be wrong and it would just stay ignorant of its potential."
"I don't think that's it. I think that because Mew is intelligent that it knows what it can do and chooses not to, for example, destroy the world. As you said, Mew is somewhat childish and would want to live in a peaceful world where it can play with its inhabitants instead of going around like a tyrouge and fight anything it sees"
"Well, you've got me there. There is one thing that I forgot to mention about it, though I'm sure you already know, is that it can change its appearance to that of human." Aaron felt a little awkward with the way Adam looked at him when he said that. It almost seemed as if he knew what he really was, which, to Aaron, was impossible. "There could be one hiding amongst us the next town over, or in this very city. There's even the possibility that you could be a Mew." Aaron kept his cool and only raised an eyebrow at him, which earned him a laugh. "If that were true, I think my mind would've exploded from how incredible that would be."
"Yeah, same here," Aaron laughed. The weavile, who was looking bored the entire time they chatted, pulled on Adam's pant leg. Adam looked down at him and then at his watch.
"Ahh, it was nice talking with you, but I've got to get going."
"Oh, okay then. It was nice talking to you too Mr..."
"You can call me Adam."
"Nice talking with you, Adam." Aaron watched the two leave the section of the museum, all while keeping a fake smile on his face. He waited a couple minutes before he left as well, going into one of the restrooms and teleporting outside. He transformed back into an espeon and followed his target into the streets of Pewter City. "Alice, he's on the move again. Where are you?"
"We're just a couple blocks away. Where're you going?"
"He's going south, probably going back to the pokémon center."
"Hey I've been meaning to ask this, but why exactly are we following him?"
"I need your help in having him confess that he's trying to steal Lani."
"How am I going to do that?!"
"Don't worry, I have a plan. Everything will tip in our favor if we do this right. Just do what I tell you to when we meet up" He could feel Alice's uncertainty and assured her that they could pull it off. After getting Alice to agree, all Aaron had to do was to steer Adam to where he needed him to go. In order to do that, he used the power of suggestion to have Adam take a different route to the center. He kept a good distance behind him so that the weavile wouldn't catch on to his tailing, all while keeping Alice updated on his movements.
Adam was eventually led into an alleyway. He stopped in the middle and looked around confusingly at his surroundings. "Why the hell did I come here?"
"Weavile!" Adam turned around to see a girl with a flaaffy and espeon blocking the way back out.
"What do you want, little girl?" he asked.
"I want to know why you're trying to take my friends' pokémon," Alice said.
"What're you talking about, kid? I don't know any of you're friends."
"Yes you do. You're trying to take his dratini away."
"Oh, that kid. Look girl, that dratini belongs to me. He stole it from me and I want it back, plain and simple," he said flatly.
"I know you're lying. Just stop what you're doing and leave us alone."
"Or what; you're gonna cry to your mommy? I'm not lying, so there's nothing you can say to make me say otherwise."
"I'll bet my flaaffy, April, in a battle that you're nothing but a thief." Alice looked at Aaron questionably, who just nodded to her. April however almost had a heart attack.
"Really? You're betting your pokémon on the slim chance you have that I'm a thief? What do you get if I lose?"
"I want you to tell me why you're really here and drop all this nonsense."
Adam and his weavile laughed at her demands. Alice was sort of regretting going with Aaron's plan, especially if she and April were going to be looked down upon. It then occurred to her that even if she did win and got a confession out of him, would anyone believe her? He could easily say that she jumped him and made him confess to something he didn't do.
"Okay, if it means that much to you, I'll take you on," Adam said chuckling. "So which one are you going to take us on with?"
"With Aaron, my espeon," Alice replied. Aaron stepped forward in front of her and got into attack position.
"Are you trying to give away Lamb chops over there? There's no way that your espeon can win against my weavile."
"We won't know until we start." Adam seemed to be in disbelief over what she said, then thought of all the reasons she was so confident that she would win. The answer that stood out the most was that the espeon was more powerful than what he first thought.
"Classic trap," he thought. "You know what? I think it's only fair that you let your sheep fight. After all, it's not right for her to place all her hopes in a battle she's not apart of." Alice was about to protest, but Aaron stopped her.
"It's okay," Aaron assured her.
"Just go with it or we won't get a confession."
"Just go with it?!" Alice mentally shouted. "There's no way she'll be able to take on that weavile!"
"Trust me; she'll be fine if you battle like you normally do. I already thought up of a plan to help her." Alice looked down at April, who was holding onto her leg looking scared, and wasn't very comfortable sending her out there in a losing battle. She was sure that her partner was going to be badly injured from this and, even worse, was going to have to be given up. There was also the fact that she was putting all her faith in an espeon she barely knows. Then again, she couldn't have gotten this far if it weren't for him.
"Hey, are we gonna get started or what? If not, then we can drop this nonsense and can get on with our lives," Adam said impatiently. Alice turned back to Adam.
"You're not going anywhere. I'll take you on with my flaaffy and we're going to win," She said confidently, which made April cry out in protest. She knelt down and patted the sheep's head. "You can do this. That weavile just looks scary. I bet that guy only picked you because he thinks he'll get an easy win off of you, but we'll show him that you aren't a pushover, right?" The sheep nodded, but was really unsure if she could really take on such an intimidating opponent. She didn't really like to fight anyway. She swapped places with Aaron and took her place in front of her trainer. Alice reached in her back pocket and pulled out a pair of shades.
"It's about time. I'll be a gentleman and let you have the first move."
"You're going to regret underestimating us. April, use Thundershock." The sheep charged up and fired a bolt of electricity at the weavile. The dark type dodged the attack with ease.
"Retaliate with Slash," Adam said. Weavile grinned and dashed at April with a glowing claw. April, out of pure terror, screamed and reflexively ducked the incoming attack with her eyes closed, which surprised the weavile and his trainer.
"Use Headbutt!" April, with her eyes still closed, jumped forward and rammed her head into the weavile's stomach, sending him tumbling backwards. "Alright, you did it!" Alice exclaimed happily. April opened her eyes to see what she had done and was surprised to see the dark type on his rump rubbing his stomach.
"Lucky shot," Adam scoffed. "Weavile, get up and show 'em what you're really made of with a Dark pulse!" The weavile quickly got up and started charging a black ball of energy in its claws.
"Quick, use Thundershock!" April fired off another bolt at the dark type, but the weavile dodged it again and threw the dark energy square at her chest. April was thrown back on the ground, holding the place where the attack struck. "Come on, April. You have to get up!" The sheep slowly got back up with one paw still on her chest and slightly gasping for air. The last attack was clearly powerful and it would only take a couple more to knock the sheep out for good.
"You wanna call it quits before your pokémon really gets hurt?" Adam asked. Alice knew that he wasn't asking to be nice, but making fun of her.
"No, we're going to win."
"Suit yourself. Finish it with Night slash." The weavile grinned before dashing at April with dark tipped claws. Alice glanced at Aaron for whatever he was going to do to help them out, but he just stood there watching. She grunted in frustration and quickly put her shades on.
"Turn and use Flash," she yelled. The orb on the April's tail flickered as she quickly spun around before a blinding light lit up the alleyway. The weavile was forced to stop his attack and cover his eyes, as did everyone else, but yelled out as he was struck in his head. Once the light faded, Adam gasped at the sight of his weavile lying unconscious on the ground.
"W-what the hell?!" he shouted. "What did you do?!"
"We kicked your butt, that's what," Alice replied happily as she ran up to hug April. The sheep was in awe at the results and didn't think she hit anything with her tail... or maybe she was too scared to realize that she did.
"There's no way you could've done anything!"
"I didn't have to. Your pokémon got hit with the orb on April's tail. If you don't believe me, check the injury for yourself." Adam reluctantly went over to his pokémon and checked for damages. Even with the black fur, he could see a small lump on his pokémon's head. He knew that the orbs on the tails were hard, but he didn't think it would cause this much damage. He cursed under his breath in frustration as he pulled out a pokéball and returned his pokémon. "Since I won, why don't you tell me what you're really doing here?" Adam laughed at her as he stood back up.
"Look, kid, I only did this to humor you. I had no intention of telling anything that I haven't already told you. Now that you've gone and beat up my pokémon, I have to back to the pokémon center and heal him up."
"What?!" Alice exclaimed.
"Yeah, it was fun, but I have a weavile to heal and a dratini to get back. I'll see ya later."
"Actually, I would like to hear why you're here too, Jason Walker," Someone said. Both Alice and Adam looked to see Detective Dan coming around the corner. "I did a background check while I was at the station. It turns out that there's no record of an Adam Blake anywhere having a dratini, or even being a trainer. I asked myself 'why would someone use a fake name to get their pokémon back?' Naturally, I assumed that you were a criminal and went through Kanto's Most Wanted list. It took me a while, but I found your profile." The detective pulled out a piece of folded paper out of his pocket and opened it. "Jason Walker: wanted for stealing over thirty pokémon, six bank robberies in four different cities with two other accomplices, and four muggings. I'm ashamed to not have recognized you sooner."
Jason, formally known as Adam, was starting to sweat. Getting caught by the police was the last thing he expected while he was here. He thought for sure that his alias was had a trainer's background. He could only assume that something happened to his partner yesterday or else he would be in the clear. He took a step back to make his getaway, but the detective was one step ahead of him. "Ariados, go!" he said as he tossed a pokéball in the air. An Ariados popped out its ball and stuck itself on the wall. Jason quickly turned and starting running to the other side of the alley. The giant bug however shot a thick string of silk on Jason's back and pulled him back down on his butt. From there, it slowly pulled the struggling criminal in to wrap him in its sticky thread.
Alice and April were both amazed and surprised at the events that unfolded in front of them. They never expected the man they've known as Adam to be a criminal with such a history. "Thank you, detective," Alice said gratefully. "I don't know what we would've done without your help. How did you know where to find us?"
"I was on my way back to the pokémon center from the station to see if our thief here had returned there. When I saw you tailing him in here, I thought something suspicious was going on, so I stayed out of sight until I had a chance to catch him off-guard and capture him. If it wasn't for you and the fact that he was a wanted criminal, your friend would have one less pokémon on his belt. Speaking of him, you can tell him that he's off the hook and hand the kind nurse this note for clearance," he said, taking a folded piece of paper out his pocket. "Take this picture too. We don't really need it anymore, but maybe he could solve the mystery on how this was taken." Alice took it and nodded to him before taking off to the center with April and Aaron by her side. "Oh, and one more thing," the detective shouted before she got too far away. "Tell him to come with a better story to tell an officer of the law next time he's in trouble."

Chris was lying on a bed in a different room he had been left in. He was allowed to go in the same room as Tora and be with her, but he still wasn't allowed to leave. Tora was lying next to him just as worried as he was about the outcome of the detective's investigation. Even though Aaron told her that he'd handle it, she had no idea exactly how he even begin to take care of it. Chris started rubbing her back to comfort her.
"So, do you think things are going well?" Chris asked, trying to start some conversation.
"I don't know," Tora sighed. "From what you told me about what happened in the other room, it doesn't look good for us. I don't want Lani taken away."
"I don't either, but we may not have a choice if that Adam guy somehow gets his way." He suddenly heard a low growl coming the chu.
"That jerk! I don't know what he's playing at, but I'm going to rip him and that perverted weavile of his to shreds if they show their faces around here again!"
The door to their room opened, which caused both of them to sit up. Nurse Joy came inside with a tray of pokéballs along with Alice, April, and Aaron behind her with smiles on their faces.
"Chris, you're free to go now. You can keep Lani!" Alice exclaimed. Chris and Tora were both extremely relieved and surprised at the good news.
"Really?" Chris asked. "What happened?" Alice told him the whole story from when they left the pokémon center. She told him of Aaron managing to track the thief to the museum and leading him to an alley in order to force a confession out of him. She told them of Aaron's major contribution at the end of the tough battle. While the opponents covered their eyes during April's Flash, the Aaron quickly ran in with his eyes closed and delivered a powerful Iron tail upside the weavile's head. Alice was only able to barely see it through her shades. Although they didn't get the confession, the sudden appearance of Detective Dan was more than enough to clear Chris' name. "That's amazing. And to think that guy almost got away with it. I really can't thank you guys for all your help with this."
"It's no biggie. Oh, I just remembered," she said as she pulled out the picture and handed it to Chris. "The detective wanted you to have this and said 'come up with a better story to tell the police the next time you get in trouble'. What did he mean by that?" Chris laughed at that and shook his head.
"Yeah, I guess that story is too unbelievable to take seriously. I'll tell you about it over lunch. We've been sitting here starving for forever-and-a-day and could really use some food."
"Is that really the only thing you can think about right now? You nearly had your pokémon stolen."
"What can I say, I'm a growing boy," he replied as he got off the bed and clipped his pokéballs on his belt.
"That berry wore off a long time ago," Tora commented. "I could go for some real food." She hopped off the bed and approached Aaron. "Thank you for doing what you did. I don't think there's anything I can do to repay you for this."
"I can think of a way you can," Aaron said with a grin, which got her to look at him questionably. "It's actually more of a request than anything. I'll tell you about it during lunch. I can guarantee it'll be fun for both of us." He gently kissed her cheek and started escorting out of the room before she could ask anything about it.
