I should also warn any younger readers (I know your reading this, I can't stop you.....yet > :)) that the following chapter contains violence.
It was late when the group arrived at the home. It was a simple two story affair, with a great oak door that was currently being unlocked and opened by a large black figure
"There it's open."
"Well move your fat arse and let Roman put him down on the couch!"
Carbon grunted and stood aside as the Ruby and Roman entered the building, Roman having to duck under the doorframe due to his large statue. They immediately placed Kyle down on the couch and Roman began to examine him.
"Hmm, several nasty cuts, bruising, a shallow blade wound on the neck..." He stood and turned to Ruby. "Well my dear, your affinity was light magic, this shouldn't trouble you" Ruby walked over to where Kyle was laying and examined him as well.
"No, this shouldn't be a problem"
Carbon scoffed "Magic? Sweet Gaia, I've invited a couple of nut jobs into my home..."
Ruby smirked and placed her paws over Kyle's body and began to concentrate, summoning energy from the light to flow into him.
"Retore."
Suddenly, her paws were engulfed in a bright light, causing the black wolf to yelp in surprise. The light flowed from her paws into Kyle and his body started to glow. Before their very eyes, cuts began to seal themselves, bruises faded and vanished, and in less than a minute his whole body looked good as new while the light faded from him. Ruby stood up and smiled, inspecting her work.
"There we go; it's as if nothing happened." She turned to Carbon who by this time was backed into a corner, his paws raised in a vain attempt to defend himself, his cocky self assured image all but shattered.
"Wha..What the fuck was that!?"
Ruby chuckled and smirked at the wolf.
"That was a little of that 'nut job' magic you was talking about."
The wolf looked at the female, eyes wide open before he dashed for the wall, grabbing onto an ornamental broadsword. With some difficulty, he raised it at the wolfess and growled.
"Okay bitch! I don't know who the fuck you are, or what the hell that...fucking light show was, but if you come anywhere closer I'll kill you!"
She stood there and smiled at him, raising her paw.
"And if you try to even touch me with that, I'll burn all your fur off okay?"
The two stood there staring daggers at each other before a large hand placed itself on Carbon's shoulder.
"Both of you stop this, now isn't the time to be at each other's throat."
The Wolf shrugged the hand of his shoulder and turned to the robed figure.
"Yeah, and who asked you? Tell me why I should trust a bitch who is obviously some kind of witch or demon, and a man who won't even show me his face?"
The robed figure sighed heavily and raised his hands drawing back his hood. What carbon saw made him drop the sword instantly. A large scaled face stared back at the wolf. His eyes were a powerful shade of amber, and seemed to give off a slight glow to them in the darkness. The scales covering his face wrapped round his long, reptilian like muzzle, while two curved horns connected from his upper forehead rose up and over the top of his head.
"Is this better then?"
Carbon fell to the floor and began to scramble back from the being. His head swivelling between this new creature and Ruby. He knew what the creature was, but he had only heard rumours of them, they were meant to be extinct, another species that got in the way of *her* but here in front of him was unidentifiable proof that once again *she* hadn't got them all. Here stood in his front room was a creature known simply as a dragon.
"Roman, I think you've scared the poor lil' pup."
The dragon turned to Rose and let out another sigh.
"Seems that way doesn't it" The dragon removed his robe and hanged it up on the wall. Carbon saw that this particular dragon was red scaled like his face was. His body looked well kept, he wasn't as buff as Carbon was but could no doubt hold his own in a fight, but wherever this would be down to strength, or the sheer size of the seven foot beast was another matter. From his back a pair of wings stood, the membrane of the wing looking quite weak compared to the relative hardness his scales gave off, something Carbon noted in case he had to fight this thing. The wolf rose to his feet slowly, his eyes never leaving the dragon as it strode over and took a seat in an armchair.
"You may ask me 3 questions only, shoot."
The wolf stared at Roman.
"Are your really....I mean you were wiped out weren't you?"
The dragon shook his head and stared at the wolf.
"Most of us were wiped out indeed, *she* took us by surprise and slaughtered a great number of us. He paused a second and the wolf swore he could have seen a hint of sadness in the dragons eyes. "However, a group of us managed to escape." "Most of us were quickly hunted down and slaughtered, however before the rest could be wiped out, it was decreed that our race should go into hiding, so as to protect our bloodline and our race. It was then that a dragon suggested a powerful spell that would transport us to a place where *she* could never find us."
"Most of the dragons agreed to this plan but a few were against it, saying that this type of magic was dangerous and unstable, however we were ignored and they went ahead with the spell..."
Carbon looked at the dragon, struggling to come to terms with what he had been told.
"So what happened?"
The dragon closed his eyes. "Why do you think people refer to us as extinct?" He muttered with a hint of irritation breaking through his calm facade.
Carbon nodded and thought it would be best not to press him anymore on the subject.
"Okay, second question. What are you doing here?"
The dragon opened his eyes and thought about the question. "Well, I have my own personal reasons for being here, but the main reasons is him* He raised his finger and pointed at the unconscious human on the couch.
"What, Pinkie?"
The dragon grunted. "I would prefer if you did not use that term when referring to him, outside of Nohan it's considered a rather racist and derogatory remark.
The wolf sighed. "Okay, why are you here for pi...Kyle?"
The dragon studied the wolf for a second, seeming to study him.
"That is a question best left for another day."
The wolf opened his mouth to protest but the dragon raised his hand effectively silencing the wolf.
"Ruby, I think he is coming to, you best go check on your patient."
Kyle groaned as he slowly came to, his eyes recognizing a familiar ceiling.
"What, how did I end up....?"
Suddenly he sat bolt upright and stared at the three figures watching him, panicking as he quickly checked himself over to find no sign of any of the injuries he had suffered at the hands of Hog.
"What? How? But..."
Ruby giggled and walked over to the human and lent down, checking him over once again.
"Hey there cutey, you took quite a beating from that pig, it's a good job I was around to fix you up huh?"
The human stared back at her confused. He could only remember parts of what happened. But from what he did he had the distinct impression that Hog had handed his arse to him on a plate, so to speak. Yet as he once again checked himself over he found no sign of any sore areas, no cuts or anything, it was as if it never happened.
"Excuse me miss, but I'm pretty sure that Hog beat the crap out of me, no medicine could have fixed me so pardon my common, but what the fuck?"
Ruby let out a laugh, ruffling the human's hair playfully.
"Well let's just say I have a little special talent for helping people fix up better, that....and other things" She smiled and winked at the human.
Kyle's face went bright red, causing Ruby to giggle even more. *Did she just flirt with me?* he thought, but then his mind turned to the other thing she said.
"Special talent.....erm, do you mean.....magic?"
The room immediately went silent and Ruby's face looked surprised, her jaw moving as if to say something but struggling to find the words. Within seconds Roman had travelled the width of the room and was now kneeling beside Ruby; however unlike ruby he was still rather large even when standing, so Kyle had to crane his head upwards to meet his gaze
"Kyle....how do you know about magic?"
Kyle scratched his head sheepishly as he thought of how best to answer this.
"Erm, well I've had this book since I was a kid, and it talked about all sorts of magic and stuff."
Roman immediately sprung up and looked around the place, for the first time his face had changed from its neutral stare into something Kyle could only describe as a mixture between urgency and excitement.
"Kyle where is this book!? You have to show me it it's urgent!"
Kyle got to his feet and found he could move around easily, something he theorised as to being Ruby's handiwork.
"Sure thing it's in my room; follows me."
The pair went to the stairs and Kyle ascended them with Roman hurryingly following him. They walked down the hallway towards the back and entered a rather small room, so small that Roman had to keep his head ducked down to prevent Kyle getting a new skylight.
"Well this is my room; sorry for the mess I wasn't expecting a dragon for company...or anyone ever come to think of it."
Roman shrugged, clearly he did not care as he scanned the room for any signs of a book.
"The book, Kyle, where is it?"
Kyle nodded and knelt down under his bed. He pulled out an old tattered case and opened it.
"I kept it in here to keep it safe, I've had it since I could remember and, for some reason I felt like I had to keep it safe, I mean its old and tattered but it just felt important to m....HEY BE CAREFULL WITH THAT!"
The Dragon cut of Kyle by snatching the book from his hand, much to the human's annoyance. Roman diddent seem to care, his eyes scanned through the book quickly, absorbing the information inside. Kyle couldn't understand how important the book was, Roman was reading it and re reading it as if it was a holy text. Finally, he closed the book.
"Kyle, this book is very, very important, more then you currently realise. But what is more important is you."
Kyle looked at the dragon with a sense of bewilderment. First, he had taken the book from him and had acted like it was a priceless artefact, and now he was telling him that he was important.
"What are you talking about, How am I?
The dragon opened his mouth to talk but was interrupted by a loud bang from downstairs. Kyle immediately jumped up.
"What the hell was that?"
Roman shrugged his shoulders and stared out the door.
"I'm not sure, Kyle I think it's best if you...Kyle wait!"
It was too late; Kyle had immediately run past the dragon and through the doorway, heading towards the staircase.
Downstairs, the place was a mess, furniture had been tipped and windows shattered. The door had been ripped off his hinges by the blast and lay in pieces on the floor in front of the stairs. Two wolves struggled to their feet and stared at the doorway.
"What the fuck was that!?" Carbon shouted, wiping dust and dirt from his eyes.
"I'm not sure, but from the force of the blast, and the smell, id say gunpowder" Ruby groaned, clutching her side.
Carbon scrambled his way over to her.
"Hey are you ok?"
She groaned and opened her mouth, before her eyes widened in fear.
"BEHIND YOU!"
Carbon turned sharply but it was too late as a large hammer slammed into him. He slouched down on the spot in from of her and immediately passed out hitting the floor with a sickening crunch. Stood over her was a large pig wielding a war hammer.
"Ok bitch, tell me where the fuck that pinkie shit is before I finish him off."
Hog hovered his hammer over Carbons head, inches from his face. Ruby looked at the pig in disgust.
"I'll never tell you fucking pig!"
The pig spat on her, causing her to recoil in disgust.
"Wrong answer."
The pig raised the hammer above him, ready to bring it down on Carbon's skull. She closed her eyes, waiting for the inevitable sound of a skull being crushed. Her eyes shot open when suddenly she heard the pig roaring in pain and thrashing around the place, his hammer dropped narrowly missing Carbon. Hanging from Hog was Kyle repeatedly stabbing at Hog with what seemed to be a piece of sharp oak from the remains of the door.
"Die you bastard!"
The Pig roared as he tried to throw Kyle off him. The human Hung on tightly, stabbing at the pig, the improvised weapon in his hands rapidly becoming stained red with the pigs blood. Kyle pulled back, ready to finish him off when the pig grabbed a hold of the human's leg and threw him across the room. The pig gasped and roared, holding his hand over where the human had repeatedly stabbed him.
"You little....SHIT! I've been wounded by pinkie scum! How fucking DARE you even touch me you little fucker!"
The pig roared and pulled from his pocket a bottle filled with a strange liquid. He pulled the cork off the bottle and poured a little of it onto a torn piece of his clothing, before shoving the cloth into the neck of the bottle.
"A gift from one of my many contacts." He snarled, his hand rummaging through is pocket. He pulled a match from his pocket and lit it, before applying the burning end to the rag. "They say that this stuff burns fast, igniting anything in its path...I wonder how well a pinkie shit burns?
The pig laughed as the human slowly got to his feet, unaware of the danger he was in. Ruby screamed realising what the pig was about to do.
"Kyle NO!"
Kyle span round his eyes widening in terror as the pig pulled his arm back, ready to throw the bottle.
"Burn you little fucker!
"NO!"
"INCINDRIUS!"
Suddenly the bottle in Hog's hand shattered, igniting the liquid as it rained down on the horrified pig. He emitted a Blood curdling scream as he ignited, the pig engulfed in flames. Ruby immediately ran to Kyle, having healed herself from her earlier injuries and grabbed a hold of him. Kyle turned to her, his mouth agape as he watched the scene in front of him.
"How....who?"
Ruby pointed and Kyle turned again to look at the stairs. Stood at the bottom of them, a dragon stared at the rapidly burning pig, a red glow from his hands slowly fading away. He slowly walked over towards them.
"We need to get out of here; his friends will come looking for him."
Kyle looked up at the dragon with a mixture of fear and awe. This dragon who was minutes ago telling him that he was important, had just immolated someone before his very eyes. Ruby shook him, causing him to refocus.
"Kyle I'm sorry, you can't stay here anymore it's not safe, people will come looking for him and when they find his remains here, you will be the prime suspect. They won't think twice about killing you."
Kyle felt light headed. He had started the day like any other, working for his bastard brother, being bullied around by the locals, same as always. And now, he stood here in front of two strangers, while that bastard Hog burned away. He was homeless now, nowhere to go, he couldn't survive on the streets; he'd be dead in days!
"But, but... Where will I go, I can't live on the streets!"
Ruby took his hand gently causing Kyle to go silent.
"Come with us Kyle, we will protect you."
Kyle looked at the female in front of him.
"But why? Why do you care about me, I'm nothing special."
Roman lent down and placed his hand on Kyle's shoulder.
"Kyle, you are more important then you realise, events are happening that you do not realise and you will play an important part. I will explain more to you Kyle I promise but there isn't time now, please come with us."
Kyle looked at the pair as old feelings awoke within him. It had been Kyle's dream to leave Nohan, to find somewhere in the world he could be happy, and now these tow were offering him that chance. He still diddent understand why he was important, but now was his chance. He cleared his throat.
"Okay."
And so ends chapter two! As always, I actually encourage any kind of comment as long as it is not rude of course. I welcome constructive criticism; it only helps me get better. :D
