#5 of Rohan's Journey

Hey, fastest one yet. Hopefully it didn't suffer because of it. Comment and critic at will. Also, I know some of the reader's are waiting and the story will spice up a bit in the future. I promise.

Rohan awoke in the early morning. He wondered what to do to pass the time, he couldn't go back to the camp, he wouldn't be back to pick up his clothes in time. With nothing else to do, he became human and put on his clothes. He walked into town, and found the tavern. Having 'found' some money at the last village, he bought himself a pint. After a few drinks, he left the tavern and walked into the woods. He changed into a demon, immediately the pleasant buzz disappeared. 'Damn.' thought Rohan. He wandered the woods finding a stream and washing the unpleasant taste of the cheap alcohol from his mouth. He ate some food from his knapsack at his new camp. With nothing better to do, he settled down for some sleep.

He woke up when the crescent moon was high. He wasn't the least bit happy at what he was going to do, it was different from just taking things; this was scaring people half to death, just to get what he wanted. He silently jumped from roof to roof, quickly arriving at the tailor's house. He found the window much better latched, sighing, he simply pulled the window from its hinges. The tailor, who had been asleep, woke to the face of a wolf.

"You do have my clothes finished, don't you?" Rohan asked. The tailor nodded, glancing to the windows lying on the floor. The tailor soon gave Rohan his clothes.

"Great," said Rohan, "I won't be bothering you again." The tailor just nodded again. Rohan climbed out the very open window, disappearing into the night. He headed for the blacksmith, to see if he had started on the armor. The smell of hot metal greeted him, looking inside he saw the blacksmith hard at work, making slow progress since he didn't have an assistant.

"Would you like some help with that?" asked Rohan when the smith put the steel back in the furnace. The smith froze, and Rohan walked over to the furnace.

"I asked if you wanted help with that." said Rohan.

"Someone on the bellows to keep the furnace hot." replied the smith.

"Okay," said Rohan, but instead of manning the bellows he just stood there. The smith opened his mouth to say something, but a blast of heat as silver fire erupted inside the furnace interrupted him. With a gulp, the smith continued his work.

"It will stay like that for another 15 days," said Rohan, "or until you finish. Whichever comes first." With that, Rohan left, feeling no better than before.

He arrived back at the camp where he met Kitara the next afternoon, wearing the clothes from the tailor. Looking around the trees, he found one with a spear stuck in it above the lowest branch. Jumping up to it, he pulled it out. Looking around he found the next one a few trees away, pulling that spear out too. After following the trail of spears, he found a cave, eerily similar to the one that Krynn's pack lived in.

"Raistlin, Kitara, I'm here!" called Rohan.

"Well come in then," Kitara said from within, "And give me my spears back." Rohan went inside seeing that only the outside of the cave was the same the inside was much shorter, only 10 feet, it also went much farther back, some 50 yards, making it more like a hall than a dome. Rohan saw that Kitara was now wearing woolen clothes, her armor sitting in a corner.

"Put the spears over there." said Kitara, pointing to the corner with her armor. Rohan placed the spears in the corner next to the armor, turning around he saw Raistlin asleep by a fire. Thinking to give him a taste of his own medicine, Rohan changed into a wolf, shedding his clothes, and padded silently over. Rohan flipped him over and stood on his chest.

"Raistlin, its time to wake up." said Rohan.

"You were right," said Raistlin upon waking, "this isn't the most pleasant awakening. Now get off." Rohan stepped off, laughing, and changed back to a demon, putting his clothes back on.

"Raistlin's answered most of my questions," said Kitara, "but I want to know what you did in the training you had with that fox."

"I trained the control of my demonic energy." Rohan replied.

"Which elements do you control?" asked Kitara.

"What do you mean?" asked Rohan.

"Well, geez, I thought he was a fox." Kitara muttered. "Look, every demon, has control over two elements, usually males have fire and air, or at least one of them and one of the others, and females usually have control over earth and water. Occasionally, it's different, so I thought I'd ask. I thought that if you trained with a demon you'd at least know what elements you had."

"Well I know I have fire." said Rohan, holding a small silver flame in his hand.

"Well try to control the air." said Kitara.

"How would I do that?" asked Rohan.

"Why would I know? I don't control it." Kitara said indignantly.

"I guess that's why I'm going to my father's teacher then." Rohan said.

"Who is he anyway, all Raistlin said was that he lived in the Dragon's Teeth." said Kitara, "I didn't know any demons lived there."

"He isn't a demon, he's a dragon." said Rohan. Kitara just snorted.

"Sure he was," Kitara said sarcastically, "This dragon just happened to forget that your father was a wolf demon long enough to train him."

"What do you mean?" asked Rohan.

"Dragons hate wolves. No one is really sure why, anyone who got close enough to ask didn't come back." replied Kitara.

Rohan sat against the cave wall near the fire, Kitara and Raistlin on the other side of the fire in quiet conversation. Rohan wondered if Ryutai would really teach him, or if he would kill him before he had a chance to say who he was. Rohan wondered how he would even find Ryutai, Tanis hadn't given him very specific directions, just that Ryutai was a dragon who lived inside the mountains. He looked at Kitara, she was laughing, her sweet voice like cascading water. He caught himself staring just in time, looking into the fire just as she looked up.

"Rohan," Kitara said, making him look up, "Do you want some combat training?"

"Sure, but why are you asking me now," he said, "I mean, a few days ago you were ready to spear me."

"This doesn't mean I won't," she said with a grin, "But Raistlin's convinced me that you need it, besides, it wouldn't be fun if you couldn't fight back."

"When do we start?" asked Rohan. "Tomorrow, VERY early in the morning." she replied with another smile. Rohan groaned, and went to sleep.

Rohan again awoke with a wolf in his face and on his chest. This time, it was Kitara, straddling his chest.

"Hi there," she said, "Get up."

"Can you get off first?" Rohan asked.

"Sure, I'll be waiting outside." she said as she got up and walked out of the cave, already wearing her armor. Rohan quickly got up and went outside to the waiting Kitara.

"What do I do?" Rohan asked.

"Hit me." Kitara replied.

"Are you sure?" asked Rohan.

"Yep, now hit me." said Kitara. Rohan swung a punch at her head, which she neatly ducked.

"That was too slow, and even if it had hit you weren't trying, so it wouldn't have hurt." she said. Rohan tried again, this time Kitara grabbed his arm and pulled, sending him over her shoulder and landing in a heap on the ground.

"First lesson, the tenser you are the slower you're going to be." she said, "You need to relax." It was a strange sight to see, a petite, 6'4", she-wolf beating a 7'2" and very muscular, male wolf.

After several hours of beatings, Kitara released Rohan from the punishment to eat lunch. He and Kitara sat down together to eat, Rohan was sore from ear to paw, somehow, even his tail hurt. Kitara looked just as bright as she had that morning, without a scratch on her. They finished much too soon for Rohan's liking, and returned to the beatings. Raistlin watched all this with amusement, wondering if Rohan would ever improve.

That night Rohan lie down and quickly fell asleep, exhausted.

"Do you have to go so hard on him?" asked Raistlin.

"Actually, I do." Kitara replied grinning, "It's fun, and he's improving really fast, even if he doesn't know it."

"I guess you know what you're doing then." said Raistlin. Raistlin walked to the edge of the cave and lay down, looking outside. Kitara looked at her new student, then walked to her bed and went to sleep, thinking of how strange it was to be teaching him.

This continued for another 12 days, but Rohan had to leave to pick up his armor. He left that morning, relieved he wouldn't have to endure more 'fun' as Kitara called their training. He walked back to the village, arriving just before nightfall. He wandered the woods for a while, waiting for the village to fall asleep. Rohan silently jumped from roof to roof until he reached the blacksmith's house. He went to the furnace, and found the blacksmith waiting.

"Did you finish it?" asked Rohan. The smith nodded, and pointed to the workbench where the armor was waiting. Rohan put it on; it fit perfectly.

"Good work," said Rohan, "I'll leave you alone now." Rohan stopped the fire in the furnace, and the room became dark. Realizing that the smith was now trembling in the blackness, he lit the lanterns.

"I'll take you back to your bed if you want." Rohan said.

"I can find the way." the smith said.

"Suit yourself." said Rohan, putting the lanterns out. Rohan left, and made it back to Kitara's cave the next day at noon, wearing his new armor proudly.

Rohan had gone to sleep almost immediately after arriving and taking his armor off. Kitara, sitting astride his chest and her face in his, awaked him.

"Hi there, how did you sleep?" she asked with a toothy smile.

"Just fine, until you sat on me." he replied with his own.

"Great!" she said brightly, "We start training with weapons after lunch. Come outside when you're ready." With a groan, Rohan got up and followed her, not the least bit happy about the additions to their training. They began, and Rohan soon found himself on the ground, as usual. This continued until lunch, when they took a break.

"Put your armor on and grab a couple of spears." Kitara said when they had finished. Rohan went into the cave and did what she said, arriving back shortly he threw one to Kitara.

"You know the drill, but this time stopping just short will be crucial if you want a teacher, assuming you can hit me." she said. Rohan swung the spear wildly, and Kitara parried it easily.

"Did you forget EVERYTHING I taught you so far?" Kitara said, "The same things apply, the spear is an extension of you, not some piece of wood you just happen to be holding." Rohan and Kitara went at it again, Rohan was pleased that he didn't find himself on the ground as often but found that his falls replaced with the butt of a spear thrust into his stomach.

Rohan and Kitara continued with this new schedule for almost two weeks, unarmed combat before lunch, followed by armed combat afterwards. Rohan awoke to Raistlin's face, he found himself disappointed.

"Where's Kitara?" asked Rohan.

"I don't know," replied Raistlin, "she said she would be gone for a few days, but would be back soon, and then she just left." Rohan realized that she had left her armor. He padded outside, finding some breakfast for Raistlin and him and getting a drink. Realizing he had a few days off from the difficult training, he settled down and relaxed, ready to enjoy the welcome break.
