Chapter 1
Why did I come here? Because I little food. Sometimes I wish I could use my magic for things other than metals, but nope. I can only summon metals. Although, it does help with food. But I just wish I didn't have to be in this village. It's part of the Anthro territory. After all, I am Human. At least I have my cloak to cover my face. And it covers my lower body too. I just hope it stays closed.
I walked into the street market. 'Too many Anthros. This may get a little too close for comfort. I'm already kicked out of my kingdom for sorcery, I don't want to be discovered here.' I thought. My pale blue eyes darted from Anthro to Anthro. Every time I saw someone looking back at me, I felt myself shrink back into my hood. I arrived at a fruit stand and saw some oranges. I licked my lips and thought of the juicy taste of the orange.
I approached a large Bear-like Anthro. He was much bigger compared to my height of 5'5". "How much for a basket of oranges?" I asked.
"Are you sure you want a basket? It's pretty expensive." The bear said. His voice sounding very much deeper than mine.
"Yes." I replied simply.
"Okay. That'll be 7 silvers and 3 coppers." he said. He was right. It was expensive. I put my hand in my pocket and summoned 8 silvers.
I slid the money over to him and said, "Keep the change." With that, I grabbed my basket of oranges and left the stand. Along the way, I had acquired a verity of meats, some celery, and a loaf of bread.
On my way out of the gates to the village, I saw a small child. He appeared to be Bird-like Anthro. He looked pretty beat up and scruffy. Tattered clothes and scratches from head to toe. I felt sorry for the boy, so I dug out five oranges and some jerky and handed it to the boy.
He looked at me with wonder as I reached my hand towards him. He quickly grabbed it and said, "Thank you, sir! I will savor every bite of these in your honor!" I smiled and walked along the walls of the village to a park that was nearby. I sat on a bench, careful so my face is not shown, and put my food items in storage bags.
I looked around the park. Only a few people here. Four guards playing chess, a female Anthro feeding the animals, and a few Wolf-like Anthros jogging around the park.
A while later, the female Anthro sat next to me. "Beautiful summer's day, isn't it?" She asked. I took a look at her. She was a Fox-like Anthro. Orange with white on her belly side. Black on her hands, feet, nose, and the tip of her tail. Her white whiskers reached out about two inches. Her eyes were a brilliant gold. She was wearing an orange tang top and blue white shorts.
"Yeah. It is." I said. I turned my head away so she couldn't get a look at my face.
The fox giggled. "My name's Vixy. May I have the pleasure of having yours?" Vixy asked.
'Oh no... She wants to know my name?! Why does she want to know my name?! Wait, I'm taking to long! Gotta think of a name! I can't tell her my name is Kite! Um... Um... Andrew!' I thought.
"Well?" Vixy asked.
"Sorry. Just enjoying the scenery. My name is Andrew. It's nice to meet you." I said.
"Hahaha. It is quite a scene isn't it?" She asked. I did not answer. "You know, out here your never supposed to be alone."
"Then why were you?" I asked.
"Oh no, I'm not alone. The guard that is closest to us is my brother. I come out here every day to keep him company during his post hours." Vixy answered.
"That is very kind of you." I said.
"Thank you. Hey, random question, can I see what species you are?" She asked.
I looked straight at her from the cover of my hood. "No." I said simply.
"Oh come on! You're no fun!" She yelled. We then sat there for a few minutes enjoying the scenery. Or so I thought. Because the next thing I know, my hood is flying back and I'm hearing a gasp.
I panicked and the first instinct that popped into my reality said, 'Run. Kite, run now. RUN!!!' And so I ran.
Vixy gave chase. "Andrew, wait! Come on, it's not that bad!" she yelled to me. I turned into an ally, only to be blocked by a wall which I accidentally ran into. Vixy turned into the ally as soon as I landed on my butt. She ran over to my side and held my arm. "Are you alright?" She asked. I shook her arm off and backed away, only to be met by a corner. 'I'm not scared of them. I'm scared of what they'll do to me if I'm caught.' "Hey. It's okay. I'm not gonna hurt you." She put her hands out to the side and slowly walked towards me. When she arrived, she put her hands on my shoulders and removed my hood.
"Please, I cannot get caught. The Human kingdom already kicked me out. I-I will have no place to go if I am caught. Or if I am punished worse, they will throw me in the dungeons for life." I pleaded.
"Shhh... You're fine. I'm not going to report you. But why did you run like that?" She said.
"I-I-I was afraid. Afraid of what you would do if you found out." I answered.
"Oh honey, you don't have to be afraid of us." She comforted.
"I'm not afraid of you!" I yelled. "I'm afraid of what you and your kind will do to me." Her arms closed around my back. And her head put itself on my shoulder. It felt... oddly nice. I slowly put my arms around her.
"Come with me. If you want, you can stay with me." Vixy said.
"But, your brother. Isn't he in The Guard?" I asked.
"Yes. But he doesn't live with me. I'm 23, I can afford my own place." She answered.
I followed her to a stone apartment building. We went into a door labeled '273'. She sat me down on the couch, and walked off in the direction of a hallway. She later returned with a pillow and two blankets. "It's not much, but it will have to do." She said. I reluctantly took the pillow and blankets.
"Why are you helping me?" I asked.
Vixy sat on the couch to the right of me. "Because..." She started. "Actually, I don't know why." I tried to put my hood back on, but a hand was placed on my elbow once it got to a 45* angle. "Please don't. I like the look of your skin. It's a... whitish tan color. Plus, I've never seen an actual Human before." Vixy said.
'Please just leave me alone right now. I just wanted a nice time in the park, and now I've been chased down and dragged... Here... Actually, the place isn't bad. At least Vixy isn't trying to kill me like the last Anthro that saw my face.' I thought.
"You know, you're kinda cute for a Human." Vixy said, shaking me out of my thoughts. I looked at her with a questionable look.
"The least I can do to try and repay my debt to you, is share my food." I said pulling out my storage bags. Vixy gasped and grabbed the jerky when I pulled it out. She looked at me as if she was asking for permission. "Go ahead. Eat anything. Just leave some for me." She smiled and dug into the meat. I took one of the oranges I had bought, peeled it, took it apart, and ate it piece by piece.
After we had eaten our food and put it away, we found that the sun was going down. So we lit some candles around the apartment and settled on the couch. Me on my side under the covers. And Vixy sat on the floor with her back against the couch. While I lay on it under the covers.
"You look cold. If you'd like, you can come under the covers with me." I said. I was forming a trust with her. But it was forming too fast. Vixy nodded to my comment and climbed into the covers with me. She put her arms around my neck and cuddled the rest of my body with the length of her body. I had no choice but to put my arms around her. Actually, her body was about the same size as mine. Just more fragile. My head lay on the pillow, while hers lay on my head.
Later in the night, I felt something move across the back of my jawline. It became wet and cold after a few seconds. I opened my eyes to try and find out what it was. But I found myself with Vixy flat on top of me with her head resting on my chest, arms still around my neck, legs entangled in mine, and I was on my back. I almost always sleep on my side. "Vixy. Did you just...?" I asked. She opened her eyes and smiled a sly smile. She moved her body up so her face was directly beside mine. Somehow, this position made me feel more... comfortable. It made me feel like... like I was cared about.
Soon after, I fell asleep.
