Chapter 3
"Get up." Reachel said. "We've still got a whole day of school left, and Zanders said you'd show me around."
I got up. "You saw the whole thing?" I asked. She nodded. "Damn."
"Hey. It's okay. You did the right thing standing up to a bully. It's not the way I would have gone, but we're all different, right?" She said.
I coughed up blood. "Yeah. And I guess my way get the shit beat out of me."
"Watch your language. We're at school." Reachel scolded.
"Sorry. Anywhosle. It's getting cold out here. I guess I'll show you around." I said. We walked around the school, occasionally stopping in a progressing class to get the 'air' of the classroom. After the school day was done, I walked to my locker. And apparently, hers was right next to mine. I got my stuff out and we turned to go. Only to be greeted by Blaze.
"So this is the alien that's new here." He pointed to Reachel. "And it's a girl! This makes it even more fun." He smirked.
"Yeah, it's real nice to meet some dick who likes to make other people's lives miserable." Reachel retorted.
"Bitch, what did you just say?" Blaze asked.
Reachel looked around. "If you're going to use that word correctly, I am not a female dog."
This only seemed to anger Blaze. "I'll call you that if I want!" He shouted. He raised a fist, but I stepped in between them. His fist came down on my right eye, and I went crashing to the floor. I heard some scuttling and then I saw Blaze on the floor with a pained expression.
"The bitch kicked him in the balls!" One of the goons said.
"Sorry, Blaze, but we're getting out of here!" The other said. They ran down the hall.
"Are you okay, Nathan?" Reachel asked. I looked up at Reachel and saw a shocked look on her face. "Your eye. It's swollen and it's really bruised." I gingerly touched it. Sure enough, it was larger than usual.
"Damn it, Blaze. Just stop making my life a living hell!" I yelled.
"Oh my God!" A female yelled. I looked down the hall. It was my English teacher Mrs. Thorton. "All of you, to the principal's office! Now!" She yelled.
We all got up and walked down the hall.
"Thanks a lot, Nathan." Blaze said sarcastically.
"Just shut up and leave me the hell alone." I said.
"Fuck no. I'm gonna make you wish you were never alive." He said.
"Why? Why do you do this to me?" I asked.
"Because your foster parents killed my mom!" He yelled. We all stopped.
"I-I had no idea. They stopped talking to me ever since I started High School." I said.
"That's when they killed her." He said back. "And because I don't know where your parents are, or where they live, I'm gonna make them pay by hurting you."
"Don't bother. They don't even care for me now. Every once in a while there will be food refilled in the fridge, but I don't even see them anymore." I said.
"Wait, I thought you said your parents get off at 7." Reachel said.
"They do. But I always cry myself to sleep before they come home. If they do come home." I answered.
"Oh. I'm sorry. I guess I should never have done that shit to you." Blaze said.
"Could you please stop swearing?" I asked.
"Hey, it's a free planet. I can do almost whatever I want." He said.
We arrived at the principal's office. "What did you three do?"
"Mrs. Thorton thought we were in a fight, but what really happened was, we were messing around, and my face hit a doorknob. On my way down, I accidentally kicked Blaze in the balls." I lied.
"Seems reasonable. Go home." The principal said.
We walked out. Reachel and Blaze were staring at me. "What?" I asked.
"You came up with that so fast." Blaze said dumbly.
"You forget that my brain is bigger than yours. I can think faster." I replied.
"Oh screw it. I can't hold it in. Nathan, I think you're a really cute guy, and... Do you want to go out sometime?" Reachel asked.
"Uh... Yeah sure. I guess it'll be one of those 'get to know ya' dates." I replied.
Blaze playfully punched my arm. "Good going, dude. Hey, if you need a favor, come to me."
"So just like that we're friends? No. It's gonna take a long time before I forgive you. But I will take that offer." I said. Blaze frowned. We walked out of the school, Blaze going one way, and me walking Reachel home another way.
'Maybe things will get better' I thought. But thinking that was a grave mistake. Because life was about to send me to a deep pile of crap.
