Reunion
Part 12
"You can't seriously want to stay here? You've nearly been killed twice!" Brett's mother spoke, a larger human woman, with the same red hair iconic of her son.
"I want to stay! Why is it so hard for you to understand?! I have Kurt's entire family to keep me safe! Not to mention Clay!" Brett responded to his mother.
"Go pack! We're leaving tonight!" She said in a commanding tone.
"No... Leave, go home... I'm staying here... THIS is my home.... Kurt... Kurt is my home..." the small human said defiantly.
"What the hell are you talking about?" the woman asked.
"I'm talking about how I'm in love with Kurt... and how you're going to leave us alone..." Brett said quietly, fighting back tears.
"Oh my god... Brett I'm sorry... I know your father and I have been kind of absent lately... but we do love you... I suppose if you're happy... well... you can stay, your father and I could have much worse son in-laws than Kurt." The two humans made up, and Brett's mother left for home the next morning giving the boys her blessing.
"So... That went better than expected, now didn't it?" Kurt said to his mate, who currently sat in his lap, cuddling into his chest.
"Yeah... It really did..." the small human said. "But like I said, they could have disowned me for all I cared, all I need is you."

"So... Calo, You've asked my brother to be your mate?" Darren asked the coyote, being as intimidating as he possibly could.
"Y-yes! I hope to have your approval Darren... I really care about Dillon..." Calo replied to the large fox.
"Well... he seems happy... But I swear... if you EVER hurt my little brother, I WILL kill you... and trust me... it won't be quick..." Darren said with intensity.
"O-o-ok....I-I p-promise..." Calo's regular energy had been drained from him.
"Good... well... Dillon will be home in about a half an hour... you're welcome to wait here for him." Darren said to the cowering coyote.
"T-thank you s-sir."

The large black dragon sat quietly next to the small stone slab, his father had come home the night before, but his family would never truly be whole again, this day was the anniversary of the most tragic even the dragon had ever experienced. The day his brother Vincent had passed. "Hey little bro... I guess you're looking out for everyone from the other side eh?" The dragon felt tears begin to build up. "I miss you so much... Dad finally came home, but I still feel so alone!" The dragon suddenly felt a small pair of arms wrap around him from behind and a head rest upon his back.
"Hey big guy... you should have asked me to come with you." Brett said, trying to comfort the big dragon.
"I didn't want to bother anyone... I thought I could handle doing this alone... I really couldn't I guess." The dragon said, happy to have the human in his life.
"Well I'm here now... You miss him a lot, I understand... but he's really glad you're happy..." Brett said, remembering his conversations with the young spirit.
"You know... how I'm going to live a really long time? like... hundreds of years... I'll still look like this when you're fifty... One day it'll be your grave I'm visiting... how can I be happy knowing that?" The dragon asked quietly. "And how can I be happy knowing someday I'm going to die... but my mom... she's immortal..."
"Clay... You've just gotta look on the bright side... you've got a good eighty years left where I'll be around at least... and you'll always have someone... hell... maybe Kurt and I will adopt a kid and you can be HIS guardian angel. Or... maybe you and Vi will have kids yourselves..." Brett said comforting the big reptile.
"Thank you... Brett... I love you... you're such an amazing person..." The large creature pulled the small human into his embrace.
"T-thanks big guy... I love you too... you're like a big brother to me, I really don't know what I'd do without you... well... I guess I would be dead..." The human said, thinking deeply. The pair sat quiety and paid their respects, Kurt came to pick Brett up after he had a chance to tell Clay how things had gone with his mother. The three had decided that tomorrow being a Saturday, they would get the usual group together for lunch for a celebration of all the good things that had happened.

Brett and Kurt were the first to arrive at the meeting place, the local food court. The two got a big table, and soon Clay and Vi arrived, then Darren, Dillon, and Calo, Lissa showed up at some point, nobody was really sure when, she prided herself on being sneaky, Franco showed up last, which surprised everyone since the wolf had seemed so uninterested in the invitation.
"So everyone, Winter break is gonna be here before we know it!" Vi spoke up cheerfully. "So I think we should have an awesome party to celebrate the holidays!"
"Sounds good to me." Clay agreed.
"Hmph... I suppose... I can't think of anything else to do." Franco said, looking away from everyone.
"Don't sound quite so excited there big boy..." Lissa giggled.
"Alrighty then, Kurt, Jackson, I need you guys to go buy the snacks and stuff!" Vi said. "And Clay, you and I can go get everything set up!"
As everyone separated to get ready for the later festivities, Brett was left alone, and as cold as it was he was going to walk back home. "Really? They just left you, alone, after everything that's happened? Seems like they're all to willing to let some big predatory snatch you up..." A voice spoke from behind the small human, making him feel a bit on edge "Guess it's lucky I found you instead..." The voice was familiar, Brett turned, coming face to face with the white wolf he had seen just minutes before.
"Oh, Franco, it's you, you had me a little scared." the human said, relief in his voice.
"Sorry... I dropped my wallet, had to come back for it... you... need a ride?" the wolf asked, seeming uninterested.
"Um... sure, I mean, if you don't mind?"
"Just... come on, my trucks parked over there... actually... wanna hang out a bit? I have nothing better to do... and well... We have a couple hours to kill before that Vi chick has the party set up... if not... no big deal... I can just take you back to Kurt's place... or whatever..." Brett knew one thing, the way Franco was talking was a sure sign that the wolf was nervous.
"Yeah, sure we can hang out man, any friend of Kurt's is a friend of mine!" The human said cheerfully as the two walked to the wolf's truck.
"So... This party... I may just like... drop you off... I mean I'm not sure I'm even going..." Franco said as he drove.
"Why not? It'll be fun, besides I thought you said you had nothing better to do." The small human replied.
"I don't know... I mean I really don't but still, seems like it'd be pretty ok without me..." the wolf said.
"Why do you do that?" the human asked.
"Do what?"
"Act like you hate us... I mean... if you hate us, then why do you hang out with us."
"I don't know... I like you guys... I just... I feel awkward... I picked on you a lot... And now I'm trying to be your friend... It just feels weird..."
"Well it shouldn't... I really don't hold it against you... after all, you're sorry for it... and that's good enough for me!" the human said kindly.
"Well... thanks... we're here..." The two arrived at Franco's home and went in, waiting for their party to start.
