It was a couple hours later, I had checked on Gem a few times but she was just happy to lounge around under the electric blanket.

"I told you that in thisss form I wasss lazy, " she said after the third time I checked on her. Finally when it was lunch and I had eaten did she come out of the room and I was finally able to get a good look at her.

She looked remarkably similar to her mouse and vixen form in terms of her face and overall body shape. But what surprised me the most was she actually had hair on her head. That's just not something you find on a lizard, sorry salamander. Also, she was completely nude which also allowed me to check out her body and it was, very much like her previous forms. Two breasts, again an anomaly that I would never have associated with a reptile with little green nipples on them and a surprisingly hairless vagina. Her tail also seemed prehensile or at the very least she was able to control it and use it to grab things. She also didn't walk so much as glide. The image that came to mind was of a snake, but one with legs, arms and the rest of the things she had.

"Good afternoon Krisss, " she said before sitting on my lap and giving me a kiss hello. It was strange kissing her in this form. Her skin, well actually she had scales, was smooth and slippery but dry to the touch. Her lips felt less soft than in her previous forms and then there was her tongue. You've all seen lizards and snakes with their long, forked tongues right? Thankfully it wasn't like that, at least not entirely. No, she had a normal shaped tongue but it was long and it could stretch. I swear that at one point when we were kissing, she tasted my tonsils. It wasn't a pretty sight when I started to gag.

"Sssorry Krisss, I got a little carried away, " she said with an adorable pout.

"That's okay Gem, just another learning experience for the two of us, " I answered while gently running my fingers down her back and to the base of her tail. "So, what do you want to do today?"

"Firssst thing I want to do isss to make love. A new form alwaysss meansss I have a need to get physssical. After that, it doesssn't matter. Jussst remember that I'm not warm blooded ssso there might be timesss I have to basssk in the sssun."

"Well, I think we can do something about the first part, " I said, my hands caressing her body.

"Sssuch an eager boy, " she said before leaning down and kissing me again. Making love in this form did feel a little different, but at the same time familiar. She reacted much like she had before, but he biggest comment had to be how wonderfully warm it made her feel inside especially when I climaxed inside of her.

We lounged on the couch afterwards, not having moved from where we were. She was stretched across me while I idly stroked her scales.

"I've got a question, if you're a salamander in this form then why do you have scales? Salamanders are amphibians which means they like cool, moist areas but you like it hot and dry."

Gem simply shrugged and said, "it wasss the firssst thing I thought of when I changed into thisss form. It doesssn't matter. It'sss just a label. And I like how sssalamander sssoundsss."

"Works for me. So you hungry? You missed breakfast and lunch but I could try to find something for you."

"No, thank you. It'sss one of the advantagesss of thisss form. Unlike mammalsss who need to keep the firesss burning inssside them, reptilesss like myssself don't need that ssso we eat lesss food. I'll have one large meal sssometime thisss week, then I'll be good."

"Cool. So now that you're up, what do you want to do?"

"It doesssn't matter. Unlesss you have sssomewhere to go, we can jussst ssstay here."

"That's okay, I don't mind. How about we watch a movie?" I suggested.

"That would involve leaving."

"No, I mean on the TV. I can throw in a DVD and we can watch something."

"What ssshall we watch?"

"I know the perfect movie considering your current form. Hold on, " I got out from under Gem and walked over to the DVD shelf and pulled out a battered copy of one of my favourite movies from when I was a kid. It had everything including lizards so I thought that Gem might be interested.

Putting the DVD in the player, it took a few moments for the Universal Pictures logo to show up and then the opening strains of the theme song started and we settled in to watch "Jurassic Park".

About halfway through the movie, Gem started to wrap herself closer around me trying to get as much of herself as close to me as she could. I noticed her eyes were a little dull and she was slow to respond to anything. It's then I realised that with the air conditioning working, she was effectively being put into hibernation but because she wanted to spend as much time with me as possible she didn't want to make a fuss about it.

"C'mon, I'm putting you back to bed, " I said lifting her up as best I could. She wasn't all that heavy, but I'm not all that strong but with her arm around my shoulders I was able to half-pull / half-drag her back to the bedroom and placed her back under the electric blanket. Gem sighed happily as the heat started to permeate her system.

"Thank you dearessst Krisss, I didn't want to sssay anything during the movie and disssturb your fun."

"Don't worry about it Gem. It's just a movie and we can watch it some other time when you're feeling better."

"You're ssso sssweet and sssuch a gentleman. I hope thisss phassse isss ssshort ssso we can ssspend more time together."

"We can spend time together here if you want, " I said sitting down on the bed and cupping her cheek with my hand.

"I'd like that, " Gem said and so we stayed together in our room talking and learning about each other.

It was around 4pm when I got up to get myself a cup of tea. As I was preparing it my damn brother walked in the door and insulted me like he usually did. "Hey furfag!" he called in a friendly manner. "So where's your freaky fox friend? She finally realise how much of a loser you are and leave you?"

"She's a salamander today and she's currently staying warm under the electric blanket in my room, " I answered him. There were times I just wanted to punch him in the face, but I knew that he'd beat me easily. In a way it was my own fault. I never picked on him when we were younger and never hit him which meant that he felt he could get away with murder where I was concerned. He'd curse and yell at me when our Mom wasn't around, I'd just sit there and take it trying to be the better man and hope that he'd grow out of it. No such luck, then when he realised I wouldn't fight back, the physical abuse started. It wasn't so bad when he was younger, but now that he was bigger and stronger than I was things were different.

"Get out. Seriously? She's a lizard and you're still sleeping with her? Oh my gawd you are such a loser. Well, I guess in a way I should be thankful. After my girlfriends meet you they think I'm more awesome than they did before. They think it's great I was able to avoid being like you and actually was normal, " he taunted and strolled over to his room before shutting the door.

I stood there, hands clenched in impotent rage. His words cut me like a knife even if I tried not to let any of it show. But the worst part of all of this was he was right when you really got down to it. Furries weren't accepted by the general public. We were seen as freaks and were openly ridiculed on not only the internet but in real life as well. Then I thought of Gem, my precious little Gem who I would do anything for even if it meant getting the tar beat out of me.

The whistling kettle broke me from my reverie and I quickly made my tea and grabbed a couple biscuits to go with it before heading back to Gem.

"I heard what your brother sssaid to you. Why do you let him pusssh you around?"

"It's a long story."

"I have the time and maybe the two of usss can find a sssolution."

I then explained to her the situation with my brother and how things had come to be the way they were.

"I sssee. You thought you were doing the right thing in not fighting back but he took it asss a sssign of weaknesss."

"That's pretty much it, " I responded.

Gem seemed to think for a moment, then stood up, kissed me on the lips and said, "I'll be right back. Don't move." And with those words she walked out of the room completely nude. I heard her walk down the hall to my brother's room and she opened the door. There was a muffled shout, sounds of a scuffle, a loud thump and then nothing except for the faint sound of Gem's syllabant speech patterns then silence. I waited anxiously, straining to hear anything else then right before I was going to get up to check I saw a green hand appear on the doorframe. With sinuous grace, Gem pulled herself up to the frame and posed sexily there, her tail covering herself in a teasing manner. She smiled, walked boldly into the room and closed the door behind her before making her way towards me and straddling my lap.

"I had a... word with your brother. He won't be bothering you again."

I swallowed hard, her hands came up to take my face before she leaned down to kiss me passionately. As we kissed, I felt Gem grind herself into my crotch. My hands, that had been on her hips made their way up her body, stroking her stomach, ribs and finally came to rest on her breasts. The idea of breasts on a lizard lady still made me feel weird but who was I to argue?

It didn't take long before my clothes fell to the floor and we proceeded as nature intended. However she warned me to let her know before I climaxed. I didn't know why, but I figured it was the least I could do. When I felt myself getting close I warned her and to my surprise got off of me before kneeling down and finishing me off with her mouth. I was originally a little worried about this considering her teeth but her incredibly long and flexible tongue soon made those worries a thing of the past.

Coaxing as much out of me as she could, she smiled before taking a sip of my tea and sloshing it around in her mouth before swallowing everything down. Then, without another word, she crawled back under the electric blanket.

I was left there, totally confused by what just happened. The sex was totally unexpected but I couldn't fault her for that because it had been totally unexpected although totally welcome since I met her. Then there was the word she had with my brother and why she felt the need to swallow instead of just letting me cum inside her.

"Gem? What just happened? I'm not complaining about any of it, but I feel like I walked into a movie halfway through but it's a foreign film and there's no subtitles."

"I had a word with your brother and he won't bother you again, " Gem started.

"I got that part but what did you say to him and how do you know he won't try something again?"

"Becaussse I know sssomething about him and told him ssso. And I promisssed I wouldn't tell you or anybody elssse provided he treated you ressspectfully from now on."

I thought for a moment but couldn't find fault with what she had said so I accepted it on faith. After all, who was I to question such a beautiful and exotic woman? "And what about the rest? The sex and why you finished me off with your mouth?"

"Are you complaining about that?" Gem asked, a hint of a smile on her face.

"No, I just meant that when you came back you were all hot and bothered and I'm guessing there was a reason you wanted to... you know... taste me?" I finished lamely not really knowing what to say.

"The sssex wasss becaussse you're ssso sssweet and I wanted to sssee how sssweet you truly tasssted, " she said with a wicked grin. "Any more quessstionsss?"

"Uhmmm, no, " I said while blushing furiously.

"Good, " Gem said before closing her eyes and seeming to fall asleep. I turned off the lights, left the room and closed the door behind me. I busied myself on the PC, checking my e-mail as well as certain furry fan sites to see if there was any news of Gem and our trip to the mall yesterday but I couldn't find anything.

Just a little after 6pm, my Mom came back from work. "Evening Kris, " she called from the kitchen.

"Evening Mom. How was your day?"

"Long and boring. I don't see your friend, is she still around?"

"Yes Mom, she's resting right now. She changed again last night and now she's a lizard."

There was a moment of silence from the kitchen then my Mom called me in. It was obvious she wanted to talk about this situation.

"Kris, please sit down, " she motioned to one of the stools and sat down herself opposite me. "Where is this going?"

"What do you mean?" I asked.

"This... relationship with that... girl. How long can I expect her to be staying here?"

"Mom, she doesn't have anywhere else to go. C'mon, you can't just kick her out." I wanted to say more but she held up her hand to forestall any other exclamations from me.

"Kris, I just don't want you to get hurt or to get too attached to this girl. You've never been in a relationship before and I don't want you to move too quickly because you think you feel something for her. You don't know this girl, she could be anybody but because she's one of those animal things you like so much and because she's nice to you and you two have probably... been together you might be clouded by emotion."

"It's not like that. I know her, I feel her, she's done nothing but good things for me ever since I met her so why would any of that be bad?"

"Sometimes people are just like that. They take advantage of anybody they can then move on when there's nothing left to take care of. Have you spent money on her?"

"Well yeah, but she needed clothes so we got her a couple outfits, " I answered.

"Is she going to pay you back somehow?"

"How can she? She doesn't have any money because she's not from around here."

"So in other words, you're providing for her but she's not giving you anything in return? And the money here is tight enough with the three of us. It's going to get a lot tighter if she stays and the only one contributing here is me."

"Why don't you just come right out and say it. You want her to go because you don't like her because she's not human. Admit it."

"Kris, that's not the point. You're unemployed and I have no problem with you staying here because you're my son and I love you. But I can't have you inviting people to stay with us and expect me to support them as well. I'd say the same thing if your friend was human. Now I'm not heartless and going to kick her out right now but she will need to either find a place to stay or you will need to pay her way completely. That means maybe finding a job you don't want to do. That's what being an adult is all about. I mean do you think I like being an administrative assistant? That's just a glorified secretary but I do it because I need to provide for you and your brother. If you want her to stay here, you're going to need to step up and take some responsibility."

I sat there and stewed for a bit before getting up and going back to my room. How dare she talk to me like that? Gem was the best thing that ever happened to me and if my Mom couldn't handle that then to hell with her. All that mattered was my Gem. Although the more I thought about it, the more sense she made. I looked at Gem, sleeping peacefully in the bed and realised that for the moment she was my responsibility and if we were going to have any kind of life together I had to step up and be a man.

Leaning down to kiss her on the cheek, her eyes fluttered open and she gave me a smile that warmed my heart and made my bad mood disappear. "Krisss, " she hissed. "My darling, darling Krisss."

"Sorry Gem, didn't mean to wake you."

"That'sss quite alright Krisss. I ressst a lot in thisss form." She looked at me with those beautiful green eyes before asking, "isss sssomething wrong?"

"It's my Mom. She's a little wierded out with you here and unless I can come up with a way to make some money soon she's going to want to kick you out and I can't let her do that." I sighed deeply knowing that I'd have to get a minimum wage job flipping burgers or making coffee or something. That meant long hours, short pay and above all not a lot of time to spend with Gem. There had to be another way.

"Isss there sssomething I could do to help out? Maybe find a job myssself?"

"That would be great if you could, but you don't have the proper ID, paper trail or work experience. What could you do?"

"Right now I don't know. Maybe sssomething that my unssstable appearance could be a blesssing and not a curssse."

"It doesn't matter. Tomorrow I'll go out and hit the pavement and I'll get a job. I'll support you, we can move out of here and get our own place. It'll be perfect, " I said full of confidence. Gem smiled at me, I smiled back then she lay her head back down on the pillow and closed her eyes again. I didn't want to see my mother or my brother so I pulled out a book from the shelf and started to read.

I must have fallen asleep as the next thing I knew it was after midnight and the apartment was quiet. I shrugged out of my clothes, removed the electric blanket because otherwise I'd bake then slipped into bed with Gem. She murmured something about "warm Krisss" before curling up next to me and falling asleep again.

I lay there for several minutes just staring at the ceiling. Tomorrow, potentially, was the last day of my life. From here on in I would be working to support my woman and strangely enough, that thought didn't bother me in the least. Maybe I was finally growing up after all.
