During the course of the night what Moon told kept Vienna from sleeping. So she softly crawled out of bed then she walked into her father's study. She needed to think and laying in bed wasn't a good place for it. "Why are you up this late, milady? It would be better if you returned to your bedroom." Moon replied, stepping out of the shadows. His eyes were reflecting the light from the moonlight outside. It caught her completely by surprise as he stood in the light.

"You shouldn't be up at this hour either brother." She stated walking up to him. "Please, stop calling me that, I'm a household servant and guardian nothing more." He pointed out. "I will call you whatever I want do you understand." She said angrily. "I do milady." He replied. "I know the truth behind your behavior. So why didn't you do something about it?" She asked. "It would cause this family to lose everything the master worked hard for. I'll be leaving once the mistress passes away, which will be soon I feel." He informed.

"When did you find out about this? " She asked. "A month ago the doctor told her that she only has a few weeks left. When she does pass on you will inherit everything." He replied. "I didn't think her time would be up so soon. I guess when your time's up there's nothing you can do. Will you stay here with me after her passing?" She wondered looking into his eyes. "If that's your wish milady than I'll shall remain until you no longer need me." He replied leaving the room.

She stood there as he walked out then closed the door behind himself. She walked over to the window and looked up at the crescent moon in the sky. During that time her mother was still with them she married the man she brought home. When she came back from her honeymoon her mother only had a few days left. So Vienna and her husband spent all the time they could with. making her as comfortable as they could. Lorna, felt loved and found the strength to get up each morning.

As for, Moon he stood close by to be of any service to them. The time had come everyone that lived and worked for the family had gathered. Lady Lorna took a ragged breath before she addressed everyone in the room. "I am so happy for all that you have done for my family. You are free to move on or remain here I leave the choice up to you. It does my heart good knowing that I had such loyal friends. You may go now what I have left to say is for my children." She said. So once everyone left, Moon got up then slowly made his way out.

"Moon, come back here you're my child. This for your ears as well my son now please sit here at my side." She replied. "As you wish mistress." He said, standing by her side. Vienna took her place on the bed, beside her mother. Thomas, remained at the foot of the bed watching things unfold before him. Figuring she had something to say to him also so he waited patiently.

"I am so proud of you my loving children, watch out for each other and stay safe. May you live happy and peaceful lives, I pray the spirits grant you healthy children." She managed to say before her life faded. "Mother?" Vienna said, grabbing her arm. Moon, walked over, place a hand on her neck and check her pulse. "The mistress has passed on, may the great spirits grant you eternal peace and happiness. I'm sure the master is waiting for you at the gates. So where you can walk into paradise together." Moon said, as a single tear rolled down his muzzle. Vienna, could see the pain he felt just by looking into his eyes.

"Moon, I want to you remain here for as long as you see fit." She said standing up. "Of course milady but, what of the others?" He stated looking at her. "They will let me know when they are ready." She replied. "What's your first request milady?" He asked bowing to her. "Has mother finished preparing for her funeral?" She asked. "Yes, milady I shall go inform the church." He said. "You remain here, Moon I would like to do that myself." Thomas replied. "As you wish, sir." He said.

Once, Thomas left the house, Moon stepped out into the hallway to give Vienna some space. He stood out there for a while in case she needed him then he left. When, Vienna opened the door to look for him he was gone. So she walked outside to the barn hoping he was attending to the horses. When she opened the barn doors and looked amongst the stables, sadly he wasn't here. "Where are you hiding brother?" She mumbled walking around. The only place she hadn't checked yet was the servant quarters.

When she got there sure enough Moon wasn't there either. "Milady, what are you doing here?" Franklin wondered standing up in his chair. "I'm looking for, Moon have you seen him?" She wondered. "He went over to the well he goes there when he needs to think. You'll always find him sitting there, milady." He said. "Thank, you Frank I'll see you later." She said leaving the house. When she got there sure enough he was sitting facing away. "Is there something you need me for milady?" He asked as his ears moved back.

"I would like to sit with you for a while if you don't mind." She replied. "This is you land you're free to do as you wish." He replied. Since that day, Moon became very loyal to her. She was on the verge of becoming twenty-five. Moon had turned twenty-one ten days prior to her own birthday. "Moon, there's something I wish to discuss with you." She said. "Yes, mistress what is it?" He asked stepping into the room. "You know Moon you're old enough now to marry. Also I would like you to invite all these people to my party. You never know you might find someone you like amongst the guests." She pointed out.

"I shall send the invitations out right this minute mistress." He replied, as he bowed and left the room. "I don't think he heard the first part of that my dear." Thomas said. "Yes, I know but, it's about time he settled down and start a family." She replied. "I agree with you my love but, you can't force him to do marry. It must be something he has to decide for himself." He stated. "Of course I do though if you've noticed he's been a bit more quiet than normal." She pointed out. "Yes, now that you mention it, he has been rather distant." He said.

"This is why I'm doing this I think it's time for him to find his path in life." She said. "So how can I help you pull that off, dear?" He wondered. "It has come to my attention that, Mrs. Rayne Auley Willows, lost her husband recently due to the war. So I'd like you to invite her to attend my party." She informed. "May, I ask why dear?" He wondered. "She just so happens to be a vixen born of noble blood. Who knows she might take an interest in Moon at least I hope so." She replied.

"Perhaps, if that's what you want me to do then alright." He said. "Please, do it when, Moon's attention is elsewhere understand. He may not approve of this, so be quiet and sneaky." She stated. "I have to go into town anyway so I bring this with me. He won't bother me you know he hates going into town during the day." He said. "Very well but, be careful he's full of surprises." She pointed out. "I will my dear I'll see you later this afternoon." He said, as he left the room.

After a while, Moon returned from delivering all of her party invitations. "Your invites have been delivered, mistress is there anything else?" He replied. "You may go now if I need something I'll call." She instructed. "As you wish." He said, leaving the room. He went out to the barn to attend the horses and stables. Also he took care of a few other things on the property. When the lord of the house returned he brought his horse back into the stable.

Over the next two days, Moon organized everything for Vienna's party. On the morning of that day the caterers had arrived early and began to setting up. While Moon carefully oversaw their actions making sure everything went smoothly. Once everything was in place he left to get himself ready for the guests. They would be arriving at the house around noon time. So he knew he had to get himself ready in a hurry so he could greet Vienna's when they did arrive.

It didn't take him long to get dressed in proper clothing as he walked back outside. Everyone that was there stopped to look at him including Vienna and Thomas. "You look very handsome, Moon please enjoy yourself. This is as much my party as it yours since we forgot about it." She said. "Thank you mistress but, there's no need for me to enjoy this party. There are thing I need to oversee and keep track of. Please, have a good time mistress, if you'll excuse me." He said walking away.

A tear rolled down her face but, little did they know that, Mrs. Willows dad seen everything. She was curious about the young todd so she walked over towards, Vienna. "Happy birthday, Vienna I thank you for inviting me." She smiled. "You're welcome, Rayne but, I wish it could be a happy one." Vienna replied. "Oh! Why all of your friends are here is it because of that todd? By the way I've never seen a fire point fox before." She informed. "That just so happens to be my step-brother, Moon. My parents took him in when he was just a kit." She informed.

"Why does he act more like a bodyguard than a brother?" Rayne wondered. "Over the years he changed from such a loving person to this loyal servant." She pointed out. "I see is there anything I can do to help?" Rayne asked. "Maybe if you can convince him to enjoy the party." She replied. "I'll see what I can do but, I'm not making any promises." Rayne stated. "Please, do what you can for his sake I can't bare to see him unhappy anymore." She said.

So, Rayne quietly made her way over towards, Moon. As she got closer to him she couldn't believe how handsome he was. "Excuse me, sir would you care to join me in a dance." She asked offering her hand. Moon, turned to face her when he looked at her he was amazed by her beauty. "I would be honored, madam." He said, kindly taking it. She calmly closed it and walked with him onto the dance floor.

Once the music began they danced as if they belonged together. As, Vienna watched them she took her husband and joined them. When they stepped onto the floor, Moon became nervous. "Relax, Moon I came to dance with my husband nothing more." Vienna replied. During the rest of the party, Moon was able to get to know, Rayne. They realized they had quite a bit in common. It did Vienna's heart good to see him finally opening up again.

So after a few dances Vienna let Moon and Rayne have all the privacy they wanted. In the days following her birthday, Rayne came over just to spend time with him. He enjoyed highly the second she arrived they left together with her arm wrapped around his. While they walked in the very garden he grew since he was little. Vienna knew things were blossoming between them and decided to stay out of the way.

"Rayne, my dear you've filled a void in my heart. That I thought would never be filled. As long as I remain a servant we can never truly be together." He said looking into her eyes. "It has been weeks since you were given an order by anyone." She pointed out looking back. "I know but, I'm still bound to serve this family until my death." He stated lowering his ears. "I want to be at your side whatever your decision may be." She said, wrapping herself around him.

When she did rain began to fall, he instinctively looked up at the sky. As if it was telling him this was his destiny and to follow it. He placed his arms around her and brought her inside so she could dry off. A moment later he walked back outside to look up at the storm as the rain continued falling. Vienna walked out to the porch where, Rayne was standing. They both stood there watching him between the falling rain drops.

"Vienna, I love him so much I never thought I would ever again since the death of my husband. There's something about him that makes me feel whole. Is there anything you can do to set him free?" She wondered. "There's one way but, I won't enjoy doing it. After all he's still my brother granted he doesn't act like it." Vienna replied. "Please, do whatever needs to be done I'll wait forever if I have to." She stated. "Please, grant me two days?" She asked.

"Of course I hope he will forgive you for what you are going to do." Rayne replied. "I agree with you." She said. As nightfall came, Rayne took her leave Moon, quietly escorted her carriage to the front gates. He returned shortly after to prepare dinner. "Dinner is serve my lords." He announced entering the parlor. They got up & followed him to the dining room. Once he placed their meals in front of them. He walked over to the right side of the room and waited there. After they finished their meal everyone walked back into the parlor for a few hours, before going to bed.

During the night, Vienna woke up, she got up and went into her father's study. Still trying to figure out how to let him go to be with, Rayne. Along with keeping him as a crucial part of her life. She knew it wasn't going to be an easy decision. It had to done, he needed to be free to live his own life. Little did she know that, Moon was watching her from the chair in the corner of the room. It didn't surprise her anymore after years of him doing it to her and Thomas.

"Is there something troubling you, mistress?" He asked, walking into the light. "No, Moon I can't sleep please give me some privacy. If I need you I shall summon you." She replied. He did as she told him and quietly left the room. Once she felt he was gone she sat down in the chair. She began going over how she would do this. Every time she found a solution the end result he would simply refuse to leave. As the minutes went by she spent it looking at the full moon glowing in the night sky.

It finally came to her if she simply told him that, Rayne requires his services far more than she does. He would go with live her until they're old and have children of their own. Once she found the answer she wet back to bed for the remainder of the night. When the sun rose up from the mountains over looking the town. There was strange wind of change blowing, Moon had sensed it was meant for him. So he got started with his morning chores before they woke up.

Once he knew they had awoken he brought them their breakfast. Along with today's news and mail, he left it by their chairs. After they finished their meal he took the trays away into the kitchen. Returning shortly after to see if they need anything else. "That's all for now, Moon you may go." Thomas said. "Yes, my lord but, does the mistress need anything?" He replied. "No, Moon please go for now." She replied. He bowed politely and left the room as they ordered. He walked out onto the front porch to see if anyone was coming to the house.

After a while he reentered the house, walked around looking for things to clean or repair. When he found everything in order he went back into the dining room to clean up. In case any guests arrived unannounced as he finished he walked into the parlor. Figuring they needed him to do something important before the stores closed. "I have finish cleaning the house my lords is there anything you require?" He replied. "Have a seat, Moon there's something we wish to discuss." Vienna stated.

Once he found a seat he looked at her & waited for her to speak. "You have served me very well over the years. I believe your services may better suited elsewhere." She informed. "I shall go where ever you need me to mistress." He answered. "That's good to hear, Moon you are going to live with, Rayne. Since her husband was killed a couple of years ago. She's in need of some one to protect her. I can think of nobody better suited for that job than you." She pointed out.

"Are you saying that you no longer need my services? " He questioned. "Yes, Moon she'll be arriving soon to bring you home. Please, pack all of your belongings before she arrives." She instructed. "As you wish, mistress." He said, regrettably. He knew this was coming just by the way she acted during the night. She figured it was time for him to live for himself now. Even though she still wanted to be a part of his life. Secretly she hoped for since the death of their parents. Granted he was overjoyed that he could finally be a part of something far greater.

When, Rayne came for him, he packed all his things then placed them in the carriage. Then came the difficult task of saying goodbye to those he lived with for so long. They knew it was for the best that he found his own path to walk. He stood there remembering all that his father had taught him growing up. As it all came back to him a strange smile came across his face. A familiar and fond message played, one his father shared with him when he was young.

"The true path a man must walk is always guided by the choices of his heart. It's never understood by all those you meet or will come to know. Make sure you never lose your path my son for it can never be found once lost. Though the path you walk may be long and difficult, always remember I am proud of you, son. Never let go of what you hold dear to your heart." Moon finally understood what his father meant by those very words. Once he fully understood his father's message he turned around to see his sister standing there.

"Vienna, I thank you for showing me the path I must follow. Never forget all we have left of our family is each other. I will always love you my dear sister. When the time comes I hope we can see each other again." He smiled. She didn't say anything she just ran towards him and embraced him as her brother once again. Their family was finally whole once again and forever like she dreamed. Tears welled up in both their eyes at last they were a family.

When they looked out towards the gates they could've sworn they saw their parents watching them. Both them felt they could now rest peacefully knowing the family was now at peace. Then, Moon looked at the woman he would be spending the rest of his life with. While Vienna turned and did the same with her husband. Knowing the love they felt for each other was all they needed. Rayne walked over wrapped her arm around his elbow then looked up into his eyes.

"I think it's time for us to leave my dear." Rayne said. "Goodbye, for now my sister I will see you in the future. I hope you have a healthy baby one day and good luck." He said as they entered the carriage. Once the door closed the carriage began to drive towards the gates. After passing through the gates it turned to the right and drove from sight. Vienna, knew she would see her brother again when the time was right.

As they carriage journeyed north to Rayne's home a questioned popped into her mind. "Moon, my love I hope you're happy with this? I don't want you to be unhappy for any reason." She said. "It was about time I moved on with my life. I will be there for you no matter what comes our way." He said. "Don't worry about having to cater to my needs as my servant. There's already one doing that job, your only job now is to be my husband." She stated. "If that is what you wish of me than it shall be my dear." He replied.

She didn't bother to answer him Rayne gently rested her head against his shoulder. While they made their way to her home they rode there, Moon looked out the window. Noticing a blacksmith's shop when he looked at the man working. A strange yet somehow familiar feeling washed over him as they passed. "Stop, the carriage there someone I need to speak with." He said, grabbing his sword. Once the carriage came to a full stop he stepped out and walked towards the blacksmith.

"Can I help you sir?" He asked looking up at, Moon. "Do you remember making this sword?" He replied lifting it up. The blacksmith didn't say anything at first. He simply looked at him then instantly knew who he was talking to. "Do we know each other sir? For some strange reason we've meet once before a long time ago." He stated. "My birth mother left this sword to me when I was a kit. The seal on this sword matches that emblem on your sign. I always had the feeling that one day I would actually run across my birth father." Moon informed.

"So she did give birth to you after all, what's your name son? " He said. "I am, Moon Meadow adopted son of Fulcan and Lorna Meadow and younger brother to Vienna Meadow." He answered. The blacksmith had to wipe the tears from his muzzle, as his child had become a respectable man. "I'm truly sorry I couldn't be there to raise you my son. I hope you can forgive me and your mother for the choices we made. Before the day of your birth I'll understand if you can't forgive us." He replied.

"I do forgive you along with her, wherever she is now. You did what you felt was best for me. I wish to return what rightfully belongs to you, sir." Moon said, handing the sword back. "No, that's my only gift to you. What you do with it now is up to you. Before you go there was something else that was left to you. Please, give a moment to find it." He said, walking into the back room. After a while he returned holding a necklace and folded piece of paper. He handed both things to him, he opened the letter and began reading. While Rayne slowly got out of the carriage to join him in the shop.

The letter read; "To my son, I'm truly sorry for what I did that night. If you are reading this that means you have met your father for the first time. It also means I have passed on, please don't hate me for what I had to do. I had no right raising you myself. I hope you were loved deeply by the family I left you with. All those years ago I hope you were raised in a very loving home my son. When you finally make your journey to the great beyond I'll be waiting for you and your father. Your loving mother, Brianne."

When he finished reading he had to wipe a tear from his muzzle. He finally knew the truth behind her decision all those years ago. Now he must move forward from here. He knew that one day he would see both of his mothers one day. When he made his journey to meet with the great spirits then he turned to face, Rayne. She could only smile to see his heart healed by what was written.

"This necklace is my engagement to you my love." He said, putting his mother's necklace around her neck. She looked at it then she stepped back into the sunlight. "You remind me of her so much my dear. That was the very necklace I made for her the day we met. I think she'd be proud to see you wear that on your wedding day." He said. "I thank you so much, sir. Is there anything I can do to repay you for such a gift." She replied. "All I ask of you is to keep my son safe. I hope you have a long and happy life together. The time of being a father to you is gone now you must live your own life, son. Please, stay safe my boy and may the spirits grant you peace in the years to come." He smiled.

Moon, walked towards him and embraced him for the first and possibly the final time. He couldn't help but, shed a few more tears himself. "Take care of yourself father I wish you're still around to attend my wedding. I'd like to see you there on that day." Moon said letting him go. "I would be honored to attend, send me the invite when a date is chosen." He replied. Once they had said their goodbyes they left for Rayne's home. Before the sun had set fully in the sky.

"Moon, is everything alright you seem awful quiet?" She wondered. "It's nothing my dear it was a lot to take in earlier today. I'm deeply sorry for ignoring you, milady." He replied turning to face her. "You don't have to answer like a servant, my love." She replied. "I'm sorry dear I guess some habits die hard." He said. "Apparently, that would seem to be the case. Why don't I give a tour of my home, it would help get your mind off of things." She suggested.

"That actually sounds like a good idea, please lead the way." He smiled. They spent most of the night wandering around the manor taking all the time he needed. It didn't take long he knew what happened earlier was for a reason. After dinner he was still some what distance but, it was to be expected. She knew it would take him some time to adjust to his new surroundings. He knew she'd be there to help him move forward if he ever fell.

A few months went by since they met his true birth father. It was coming close to the date of their wedding. So he began sending out the invitations to his friends and family. Hoping his birth father was still alive to attend. When day came everyone gathered close as the priest spoke. Moon, briefly looked into the crowd for his father. Sadly he wasn't anywhere to be found all of a sudden it began raining. As he looked up he knew what had happened. He stood there and said a silent prayer, goodbye. Then he looked at his wife as they lived together for the rest of their lives.

The End.
