#17 of A Boy and His Lucario Series

John and Lucario followed Pete out of the park grounds. The others watched from the other side of the barred fence, just to be safe. It could be seen that Pete had three Poke' Balls on his belt, but it was obvious a guy like this didn't have small Pokémon.

"Alright kid, time to show ya who's boss!" Pete boasted as he reached to his belt. He grabbed a ball and threw it in the air. "Let's go, Rhydon!" The giant Rhydon emerged with a loud roar. Celia gasped at the sight of such a fierce Pokémon. Lucario heard and looked over to her.

"Be safe." She whispered. Lucario smiled and nodded, assuring he'd be fine.

"Alright Lucario, let's give it everything we've got!" John encouraged.

"Yes Master!" Lucario jumped in front, now opposite of the Rhydon. Pete laughed.

"Ya expect to beat my Rhydon with somethin' like that?!" he gripped his chest laughing. "Ya might's well go first then! HAHAHAHA!"

"Lucario, use Force Palm!" Lucario shot forward and made contact with Rhydon's gut, releasing a blast of aura from his palm. Rhydon flew back towards Pete, who barley moved out of the way in time. Pete began screaming.

"What in the- how did somethin' that small send Rhydon flying?!" John smirked.

"Rhydon is a Ground and Rock type. Rock types are weak against Fighting types. So when it comes to type match ups, size means nothing." Pete was infuriated.

"Rhydon, use Drill Run!" Rhydon picked its self up and began to charge, the horn on its face spinning like a drill. It ran faster and faster, closing in on Lucario. It lowered its head, ready to hit Lucario directly. Celia closed her eyes with a grunt. Rhydon was ready to hit when...

"Lucario, use Reversal!" Lucario quickly spun around and gently patted Rhydon's horn. Rhydon shot spinning into the air. "Alright Lucario, let's finish this with Aura Sphere!" Lucario put his paws together. He slowly pulled them apart making his aura ball larger. Finally after the ball was large enough, Lucario launched it into the air. It nailed Rhydon right in the chin, causing its head to cock back and shoot it to the ground. Dust bolted into the air where Rhydon had landed. It all cleared to reveal the passed out Pokémon. Pete erupted like a volcano.

"Damn it! How could Rhydon be beaten so easily?!" Everyone on the sidelines cheered. Ashito was absolutely amazed.

"Lucario is so powerful! To be able to take out a Rhydon in only three hits? Amazing!" he just couldn't believe it.

"I knew the moment I met them that he was different." Kyo observed.

"What do you mean?" asked Ashito.

"No Lucario is just naturally that powerful. And from what I've heard, he doesn't have that much battle experience. He's this powerful because of the bond he has with John. A Pokémon is only as strong as his trainer. And those two... have enough power in them to take on the world."

"...Wow..."

Pete reached for another ball on his belt. "Ok Golem, pummel this thing!" he threw the ball into the air and out popped a Golem.

"You still haven't learned, have you?" John questioned.

"Shut up ya damn kid! Golem, use Rock Blast!" Golem reached into the ground and pulled up a boulder. It hurdled the boulder straight at Lucario.

"Lucario, use Dark Pulse on the boulder!" Lucario stuck out one paw and from it emitted a beam of dark aura. The boulder shattered to pieces, leaving a thick cloud of dust.

"Golem, Dig!" Golem disappeared underground hidden by the dust cloud.

"Find it, Lucario!" Lucario closed his eyes and focused. He searched for Golem's aura under the ground. Lucario quickly opened his eyes; he found it. "Force Palm, Lucario!" Lucario put his paw on the ground and shot a burst of aura, leaving a huge hole and exposing Golem.

"Golem, Sand-Attack!" Golem quickly pushed up sand from its hole up at Lucario. Lucario covered his face in pain; sand had gotten into his eyes.

"Lucario, if you can't open your eyes, use your senses!" John shouted. Lucario calmed himself and used his aura to see. He saw Golem was still in the hole. Without John's order, Lucario lifted a paw and shot a Dark Pulse at it. He shot it so long and hard that it sent Golem even farther into the ground. Finally, Lucario stopped. Everyone was quiet, not knowing what had just happened. Pete ran and looked down the hole to find Golem several feet underground. Knocked out.

"DAMN IT! Ahm gonna kill you now!" Pete threw the final ball into the air. "Kill that thing, Aggron!" A huge Aggron emerged and let out a loud roar. Lucario wiped the sand out of his eyes so he could get a good look. "And once Ahm finished with yur Lucario, Ahm comin' after you, kid!"

Lucario's paws went together. They quickly parted, making a ball of aura. Aura Sphere. But the ball was bigger than ever; it was half -maybe even bigger than- the size of Lucario's body. He released the ball, flinging it straight to Aggron. The ball impaled Aggron right in the gut, and brought it with it. Aggron flew past Pete, farther, farther, until it finally hit a tree. The tree fell with a loud crack, Aggron underneath it. A rut had been left on the ground were Aggron had been.

"Nobody threatens my Master." Lucario glared at Pete. Pete looked at Lucario in terror.

"You... you... yur crazy!" He screamed as he turned to run. Everyone watched in silence as Pete took off, retrieving his Aggron. John ran to Lucario and kneeled down in front of him.

"Lucario, are you ok?"

"Yes Master, I'm fine."

"What was that all about?" John asked, taking Lucario's paws.

"Master, he threatened you. As long as I am around, I won't let anything hurt you." John took in a deep but quiet breath and smiled.

"Thank you Lucario. So long as I shall live, I won't let anything happen to you either. You are my best friend, and I will always love you." John put his arms around Lucario, shedding light, joyful tears.

Violet City. Not too large a city, but a city none the less. Small street lights lit the dark paths of the night. The city seemed at peace, not a soul walking the streets, for it could be assumed everyone had gone to bed. Except for our journeying group of misfits. They walked down the lit paths in search of a place to stay for the night, but to no avail. No doors were open, nor a hotel in sight. They decided they would stay the night outside of the city, a good way to assure their mission would not be jeopardized.

"Uh oh." John said, breaking the silence.

"What is it?" Kyo asked, still walking.

"I just thought of something; how are we all going to sleep? I've got a sleeping bag, but what about you and Ashito?"

"No need to worry about me." Ashito insisted "I can just sleep on my trench coat. When you're an animal, everything is soft." He giggled.

"Don't worry about me either." Kyo added "Ninetales and I used to sleep up against each other all the time; it won't kill us to do it again." John still didn't feel right.

"Are you guys sure? We could try looking for a hotel again." Ashito shook his head.

"No, really John, it's ok. We'll be just fine. Now's the time to worry about yourself, you've had a long day. Let's just get out of the city and get you to rest." Ashito looked around him. He saw street lights and houses with dark windows. Slowly, he reached for his head and took off his hat.

"Ashito be careful!" Kyo warned. Ashito calmly lowered his hands and took a deep breath.

"Don't worry, nobody's awake. I'd like to just take a moment and breath. As I really am. As a husky. As a living creature. I won't be able to go in public for a long time, so please allow me to have one moment." Kyo nodded with a grin.

"Alright. Just be careful." The group pressed on in silence, letting Ashito have his moment. A gentle breeze blew, making Ashito feel truly alive. He had not been outside of the dojo in at least two months. Now that he was out in the world again, he felt even more at peace.

'This is how I'm going to live the rest of my life.' Ashito thought to himself 'I should make the most of it and appreciate what I have.' He smiled and sniffed the breeze.

Lucario and Celia were quietly walking holding paws. Celia looked back and saw Ashito slowly following behind; he looked like he was enjoying himself.

"So what's Ashito's story? I've never seen anyone like him." she asked.

"Master told me that he was turned into a thing called an anthropomorph, which is an animal with human characteristics, by the same group that killed Master's parents." Lucario explained.

"That's terrible!" Celia gasped.

"You would think that, but Ashito has only looked at the positives. He is a really nice guy; it's hard to believe he used to be affiliated with that evil group."

"Yeah..." the group continued on through the quiet city, Ashito slowly tagging behind.

"Here's a nice place! Away from other people, lit by the moon, and plenty of flat space for sleeping." John said as he observed a small area.

"This will be perfect. Good job John." Kyo said. He dropped some sticks and Ninetales set them ablaze. "There, now we've got more light and warmth too." John unrolled his sleeping bag and Ashito took off his trench coat to reveal a white T-shirt and a pair of jeans.

"This is the first time I've worn regular clothes in a long time, it feels kind of weird." He said as he felt his shirt.

"You look good in something other than a kimono." Kyo joked. Ashito chuckled and played along.

"Daw, stop it, you're making me blush!" everyone laughed and had a seat around the fire. Kyo threw a small stick into the fire and stood back up.

"Well everyone, this ends the first day of our journey. It was a rather eventful day, full of drama and emotion." He looked at Lucario and winked. "But it was a good day none the less. I advise we all get a good night sleep and head out first thing in the morning." Ashito smiled and wagged his tail at the mention of sleep.

"Good idea Kyo! I'm tired as... something that's really tired." He joked.

"Something that's really tired?" John chuckled "Need a little more time on that one?"

"I'll let you know in the morning. Let's get some sleep."

John lay in his sleeping bag, Kyo slept up against his curled up Ninetales, and Ashito passed out on his trench coat. The only things not in place were the two Lucario, who had gone out for an evening stroll. They happily held paws as they walked around a lake they found a little ways away from the camp site.

"Hey Lucario?"

"Yes Celia?" she hesitated a bit.

"We... we're... mates, right?" she asked. Lucario thought for a moment.

"Um... I guess...? I'm not really sure. We both love each other, right?"

"Right!" she smiled and kissed him on the snout. Lucario blushed with a smile and continued.

"And we're together. I think that would qualify us as mates."

"Well Lucario, would you like to be my mate?" Lucario grinned.

"I would like nothing more." The Lucario embraced and kissed, showing their affection for one another.

"Do you think... do you think we'll be parents someday?" Celia asked. Lucario was totally not expecting that.

"Um... well... you know, I've never thought about that."

"But it would be nice someday, right?" she asked with determination. Lucario smiled and took her paw.

"Yes. It would. Someday Celia, you and I will be parents."

The early morning shone on John's face, waking him up. He stretched out as he sat up to look around him. Everyone was in the same place as when he fell asleep; Ashito on his coat, Kyo and Ninetales together, and the two Lucario curled up at John's feet. He slowly climbed out of his bag as not to disturb them and pulled some food out of his bag. Ashito shot up off his coat.

"I smell food." John laughed and pulled out some more.

"Good morning to you too! Would you like some?" he asked, offering some food in an extended arm.

"Why thank you." Ashito took the food and dug in. This woke everybody else up. "Oh, sorry guys. I couldn't help it, I'm really hungry."

"No problem really." Kyo said as he stretched out his arms. "We should get going as soon as possible anyway. From here we'll head toCherrygroveCity. We won't get anywhere sleeping the day away." Ashito picked up his trench coat and wiped off the dirt.

"I suppose you're right. I just wish we didn't have to leave so early. The sun's barely up."

"Hey, think of it this way:" John added "The sooner we get to the Society, the more we can sleep."

It was almost hard to believe Cherrygrove could be called a city. It seemed more like a quiet little town. The city consisted of some small buildings, an ocean shoreline, and elderly people going for a walk. "What a nice little town." Ashito said....

It didn't take long for everyone to settle into the train ride. Kyo had already fallen asleep, Ashito watched the world go by through the window, and John held Lucario as if though he were his child. Lucario had cried himself to sleep in John's lap....

"Oh Celia! I thought I'd never see you again!" Lucario's tail rapidly wagged as he spoke. Celia laughed and gave him a kiss on the cheek. "I knew we'd see each other again some day." She giggled. The two continued to hug while John and Anissa met...
