#1 of Dragon Soul

Brandonslowly awoken from his sleep, his head felt a lot less painful then it did the day before, this made him happy, because now he could clearly think without the ringing feeling bouncing from one side of his head to the next. Looking over, he saw that a orange and red fire was burning where Lenna's old green fire use to be, a cross from the fire sat a women wearing a long black cloak, her hair white and skin even whiter, her blue eyes looking down at something she was making, a soft hum escaping her throat as Brandon sat up, groaning like he always did when he woke up; somehow he always felt like he needed more sleep. Zelda looked up from her work and gaveBrandona small smile as he looked over to her.

"Good morning young man," she spoke to him with much kindness. "Did you sleep fairly well?"

"I wish I did," he answered with another groan. "I felt like I was hit by a freight train."

"Even though I do not know what that is," she answered back looking down at her work. "Though I can not doubt guess that this 'train' you speak of would hurt if was hit by one."Brandononly nodded sitting up fully, taking his fingers and cracking the bones within. Zelda watched him for a moment before going back to work. "My name is Zelda, and from what Lenna told me, you areBrandon; are you not?"Brandononly nodded, looking around thinking the green dragoness was close by, but no sight of her was seen. "She went out to hunt," she answered asBrandonlooked back at her. "She will be back in a while, until then, you have me to talk to."Brandonjust gave her a questionable look, but thought not to dwell on it for too long, his stomach growled slightly as he held his gut, Zelda hearing this threw him a large apple on which he caught out of reflex. Looking down he grunted his thanks and started to eat.

Once he was done, Zelda stood up and went behindBrandon, he tried looking behind her, but she then draped something along his neck and tied it around. Once she moved away he stood up to look at what she made, it was a blue shoulder cape, covering his shoulder and even down his arm, only his hand stuck out from the bottom. In the middle of the back, the picture of a dragon with two swords crossing the paws was seen. He gave a confused look, but his eyes thanked her for the kind gift she had given him, she only smiled and nodded to him.

"So when did the dragons bring you here?" askedBrandonas Zelda only shook her head.

"I was raised here since I was a baby, you see, my great, great, great grandmother were one of the first to come here with five other human families. If by any chance a human were to come here, we were to be with them to feel safer, and to also test them."

"Test them?" askedBrandonas she nodded.

"You see, we couldn't just let any human remember, so we test them, if they are trust worthy enough to hold the secret of them, if not...well..."

"I can only guess,"Brandonanswered with a nod. "So the only way I can get off this island is to make them trust me?"

"Not only that, but they must also look deep into your soul, that is where the true test began."Brandonwas even more confused. "A man could easily allow someone to trust him, but of the other, is his trustiness real; or fake?" the green eye human only slightly blinked at what she said to him, pretending to get what she meant. "But you know, Lenna did mean well," she went on while tending to the fire before her. "Just think, if not for her, you would've been dead." That was true, and this madeBrandonsigh while crossing his arms. Though he did love dragons, anything that had a dragon in it he loved it, and he did feel bad about the way he acted toward Lenna the day before. Closing his eyes he made a loud sigh and nodded his head.

"So what will I have to do to prove myself if I may ask?"Brandonasked while Zelda turned to look at him.

"You will have to live among the dragons, you can stay with me if you wish, but you must stay around dragons as well, meaning everyday you'll have to come back to theDragonValley, as they call it down there, and just, mingle with them."

"Seems simple enough,"Brandonanswered as Zelda shook her head.

"Not as simple as you may think, many dragons already don't want you around, so you'll have to be carful, one of these dragons...is the king."

"Dragons have kings?" Zelda nodded her head as she went on.

"You see, there are four types of dragons, all that can breathe fire, but one, a gold dragon. If a dragon is gold they hold the power of fire, ice, and shape shifting. These are the only powers I know of though, so he might have more. They are wiser then even the oldest of the dragons because when they are born, they are given the thoughts and pasts of all other gold dragons before them."

"Wow,"Brandongasped as she nodded.

"Wow indeed."

The sounds of two sets of wings were heard coming closer and closer to the two humans. Both looking toward the mouth of the cave to see both a bright red dragon much higher then Lenna was landed just outside the mouth of the cave, walking in Zelda smiled as she walked over to the red dragon, the two talking for a moment as Lenna looked toward Brandon who looked back, Zelda and the dragon saying their goodbyes and left, but not before Zelda told Brandon she would show him around the next morning.

Human and dragoness looked to each other once more beforeBrandonlooked down and sighed.

"I'm sorry," he looked up when she also said she was sorry and she had the same confused look on her face as his.

"Why are you sorry?" he asked looking at her and moving forward. "I mean, I was the one being the ass to you, you saved my life and all I did was being stubborn to you."

"Yes that is true, not to sound rude," she answered back to him as he only nodded his head. "But still, maybe you were right, maybe I could've broken the rules just once and saved you in a different way then waiting for you to black out. But, that's in the past now, maybe now we can start working out our relationship of being...friends?"Brandonthought for a moment, his hand holding his chin before smiling and nodding.

"I would very much like that." He answered as she smiled back.

Days went by for the human, he and Lenna becoming closer and closer as friends, and as Zelda promised, she came back the next day to showBrandonthe area where the six families of humans lived. They lived in huts, the houses looking very strong, Zelda telling him that the trees here were strong because of the dragon's magic that flexed throughout the area, and because the dragons also help make their homes. There were many dragons that didn't likeBrandonat first, because he was a human they had never known before, but soon began to be open with him as if he was one of the humans that grew up here. The whole timeBrandonwas told that the dragon king would meet him, but so far, not even a scale of the dragon was seen, and Lenna would not talk about what the king was like or what he would think ofBrandon. His own clothing soon becoming to worn out to even use anymore, he was given more clothing by one of the families, a green tunic without the sleeves showing off the little bit of muscles he had to offer, a brown slightly baggy pair of pants with black boots; still wearing the shoulder cape that was given to him by Zelda which he always wore on him. Although he still did miss his mother and father back home, he knew he would have to earn the trust to keep this place from being known to others in order for the race of dragons to live.

Close to a week had past since living on the island, him and Lenna were laying by the green fire she had made as he leaned on her side with his hands behind his head as he looked up at her as she looked down at him giving him a small smile as he too smiled back before looking back at the fire.

"I'm glad to have gotten to know you Brandon," Lenna spoke softly while looking down at him still, before moving so her head was lying over his lap. "You are a good friend and a human, I'm sure the...king will see to that you can be trusted, I mean," she went on unblinking looking at the fire as well. "The hatchlings' consider you their big brother in a way."

"They do?" he asked in confusion as she chuckled deep in her throat.

"Yes, every morning I have to shoo them away because they keep asking if 'big brother Brandon can come out to play.'." She gave a small chuckle at this as evenBrandonlaughed at this, but then Lenna stopped her laughing as she sighed. "And well...the king would like to see you too."

"Really?"Brandonquestion as she nodded, but she seemed upset about it.

"We can go right now if you wish."

"Yeah please," he answered as she sighed, stomping on the fire to put it out, and then allowingBrandonto climb on her back, once he was settle she took to the air to the biggest and highest cave.
