Pet PART 2
#2 of Pet
"Vince!" I heard Steve call.
My eyes fluttered open, I didn't even realize I had fallen asleep. I slowly sat up and looked around. I was still in the same room, on the same couch. I yawned and stretched out for a moment. Just as I did I heard a small laugh come from the hallway. I stopped in mid stretch and looked over at the hall, Steve was standing there smiling at me. I felt my cheeks redden and dropped my arms to my side.
"Cute." Steve said. I felt my cheeks redden more. "Come one, food's ready."
I got up lazily from the couch and walked over to Steve. He watched me and when I reached him he turned and walked down the hallway leading me into a dining room. He had two plates set up, one for each of us. He sat behind one of them, and motioned me to sit behind the other. I sat.
"Eat all you want." Steve said.
I looked at the food in front of me, the tableware in front of me. I had never used anything like that before. I picked up the fork and began to eat the meat in front of me. It was delicious. I had never had meat so tender, so tasty. In just a couple of minutes I had eaten the entire stake and I began to lick the plate.
"Want another? I fixed three, if you want one more I can get it for you." Steve said.
"Really?" I asked.
"Yeah, I treat my friends well, or pets, which ever you would prefer. " He told me.
"Well if you don't mind I would love another one." I said.
"Well wait here and I'll go get it." Steve said getting up and leaving the room.
I sat, and for some reason, an instance of happiness overcame me. I felt a smile cross my lips, the first one in years that I could remember. It took a minute for Steve to return. When he did he placed another plate down next to the one I had been eating off of, it had another stake on it. Steve went and sat as I began to eat again.
"Well, I know what to fix you." Steve said with a chuckle. "You like veggies as well?"
I nodded and continued to eat. Once again it only took me a couple of minutes to finish the stake. When I put my fork down I noticed the glass of water next to my plate and realized I had eaten both stakes without any. I picked up the glass and drank some of the water. I glanced over at Steve, he had finished his food and was watching me. I sat the glass back down and looked over at him.
"Done?" He asked.
"Y-yes." I said.
"Ok, I'll take your plates." He said getting up with his own.
"I can." I standing up with my own.
"Well, if you want, follow me." He told me as he walked out of the room.
I followed Steve out of the room and down a series of hallways. We walked into a somewhat large kitchen, complete with everything that you would think to be in one, and then some. He placed his plate and glass in a dishwasher and motioned for me to do the same. So I walked up next to him and placed the dishes in. He closed it and turned to me, smiling. His smile still made me feel calm and at ease.
"Follow me, it's about that time of day." Steve said.
"Ok." I said.
Steve led my down another hall way, through what looked like a laundry room, and outside onto a back porch, a balcony. This was the first time I was able to tell where we were. We had gone out of the city and onto the mountain range near the city. The sun was setting to my right, it was nearly under the tip of the mountains.
"This is where I spend most of my time, this time of day at least." Steve told me.
I walked up to the edge of the balcony and leaned against the railing. I looked out over the city which was starting to light up getting ready for the darkness which was nighttime. Steve walked up next to me and stood there looking out over the area.
"It's a great view, is it not?" He asked me.
"It's amazing." I said.
Steve walked off for a minute then came back. I looked over at him and he was pulling a small couch over next to me. He smiled and sat down, looking back out over the city. I looked at the empty spot on the sofa next to Steve and after a moment of thinking I sat down next to him. We sat there for a long time, not talking just watching the day turn to night, the city light up, and come to life.
"This is the time for all the bad guys to play." Steve said.
"What?" I asked him.
"Oh, just something I say at night." He told my looking over at me.
"What does it mean?" I asked.
"Well, when I was young I was always told that in the city, at night is when all the bad people come out. You know, thieves, murderers, rapists." He told me. "So, that's just something I say."
"Cool." I said and looked back out at the city.
A breeze blew through my fur, and without realizing how cold it was, I shivered. Steve looked over at me then got up and walked inside. I followed him with my eyes until he vanished from my sight. After a couple of minutes he came back carrying a couple of blankets.
"I forgot how cold it gets this time of year." He said and handed me one of the blankets. "Fall, getting cold."
I nodded and looked at myself, shirtless. Then I looked down at my bear feet, then back at him, fully clothed. T-shirt, blue jeans, socks and shoes. I wrapped the blanket around me and curled up on the couch. Steve sat next to me and petted my head. I felt my cheek redden again as I let out a soft murr. After a few minutes of laying there I felt my eyes getting heavy. I heard Steve say something but I couldn't make out the words. Then the next thing I knew I was being carried inside, down some hallways and then sat down on a bed and had the covers pulled over me. The last thing I saw before I dozed off to sleep was Steve's smile, his warm smile which put me at ease.
