Chapter Thirty
Lucario gazed from his perch atop a building. Below him were shifting crowds of people, afew of them trainers searching for the elusive pokémon, but most just random tourists or occupants of the island going to work or shopping or whatever humans do. At the moment, he wasn't actually looking at them with his eyes, but rather sensing them via aura, creating a kaleidoscope of different colors from the different auras displayed from every living being below. Well technically they weren't colors, but that was the easiest analogy
There was very little of interest down in the streets, the colors of enjoyment, relaxation, greed, frustration, ect in people's emotional auras. One thing that did catch his eye, so to speak, was that human from before, the one that had helped him escape those crazy trainers. He was afew blocks away, so lucario didn't have that great of a view. Still, he could make out him and his three captured pokémon just alittle ways away from him. All of them seemed to have an odd aura about them, especially the human and that umbreon.
Their auras seemed like any other's, a shifting glow of emotion, body, and personality, but there was something else beneath it. Like they each had a second aura hidden away, only peeking out every so often from between the ripples of the first. He tried to think of what it might be, but nothing came to mind.
'I'll just have to remember to ask an elder or someone when I get back,' he thought, 'for now I must focus on my quest'
He was about to do so, turning his attention back to a building located along a stretch of beach, when something happened. The umbreon's emotional aura flared with anger. Based on her earlier movements and aura changes, he'd assumed she was sparing with her teammates, but now all three seemed focused on one machoke that suddenly stood in the middle of the grouping.
Then they began attacking him, lashing and blasting him with all their power, but he swatted them down like caterpie, crushing any resistance almost instantly. The human's aura also flared, and he ran towards the others, but seemed hindered by something, his bodily aura taking hits at the same moments as the umbreon, like they were connected.
'Probably just one of those pathetic battles,' lucario thought, trying to dismiss the sight
But still, he couldn't shake the feeling that something was wrong. He'd seen battles before, and they hadn't involved such fury as they were displaying. One of the humans stepped forward, his aura smug and confident, triumphant. Again, the umbreon's fury surged and the quilava vanished in a surge of energy and fear. Once more the umbreon was beat down when she lunged and the human left quickly and then the other one, the one who protected him, came running and cared for his pokémon. He was angry, sad, urgent.
Then he sprinted after the other one and engaged him in a fight, not in furry, but in desperation, anger for another. They exchanged afew blows before another two came out and grabbed them. Both were grabbed and held. When the first human's pokémon arrived, they were stopped by a new human's swampert, one who seemed more annoyed by the conflict than anything.
Then they were all taken away, moving through the crowd, which parted around them, down the boardwalk. Deciding that he probably wouldn't be able to do much to assist or affect the situation, so lucario again turned his attention back towards the building situated along the beach.
Leaping from the roof, he landed silently on the next then instantly jumped to the one across the street. Continuing this, he made his way to the beach and from there to the building.
From a human's perspective, it would be a slightly larger version of a typical Pokémon League gym. The rectangular building was longer than it was wide or tall with an only slightly rounded roof and fairly plain exterior. A little ways away from it, out in the water, was an area sectioned off that looked like a typical pokémon battle field marked off with small buoys and ropes. In afew areas around both the building and the water area were decorations and signs that drew attention to it
Thankfully, no one was around at the moment, which allowed lucario to approach safely without being seen. Once he was next to the building, he jumped up onto a rain gutter's down spout and climbed up to the lowest window, which was afew stories up, and managed to look inside.
He was outside the storage area, not for boxes but for pokémon. Like most gyms, it had the main room where trainers challenged the gym leader, then a storage area where the gym pokémon were kept and cared for. This one in particular had a huge open room filled with various water tanks, pool, and simulated environments similar to wet lands. All of this was to care for many different water type pokémon species from schools of goldeen swimming in large tanks to gyarados resting in giant pools
The gyarados in particular caught lucario's eye, the huge sea serpents were easily over 5 times his size. Just one could probably kill him and this place had three lounging away in the center of the room. Plus there were dozens of other dangerous, though not as dangerous, species occupying the space.
'How am I going to get a scale off of that!?' lucario thought to himself, 'I guess my best chance is to come by at night and hope that they're asleep. Otherwise I'll never return to my home...'
Ducking quickly as a human entered the room, lucario jumped down, landing in the soft sand, and wondered off to continue strategizing.

"You son of a bitch!"
Bradley slammed into the wall, Tyler's hands gripping his shirt tight enough for his knuckles to turn white. A pair of police officers were trying to wrestle the young trainer away, but the grip remained as tight as ever. Tyler wasn't going anywhere without taking Bradley with him
"How dare you!" Tyler shouted, gritting his teeth, a slight growl escaping his lips and his aura flared like a fire around him, tough lucario wasn't here to see it
Below him was Shadow, her teeth dug deeply into Bradley's shin and calf, blood running down his pant leg. A third officer was trying to remove her as well, but her strong jaws as well as her psychic aura kept his efforts to minimum effectiveness
"Sir, let go," an officer ordered, trying to pull Tyler away
Tyler removed his foe from the wall just to slam him back in, cracking the drywall behind his head
___
What happened that caused this you may ask? Well, if he needs a reason at all, it was this:
"So what caused this?" an officer asked Bradley who was seated in a chair on the far end of the waiting room from Tyler
"Well I was just training with my team out in the woods," he explained, "then this jackass came out and started saying shit"
Tyler could hear what he was saying, but chose to ignore any anger building inside him. Instead he focused on drying the water out of Shadow's fur and tending her earlier injuries more effectively. This was slightly hindered by the fact that his left hand was handcuffed to the chair. Shadow's rear right leg was also chained
"So like any trainer would, I challenged him to a battle, even though my pokémon were pretty tired from all the work we'd been doing. Well he uses that one little umbreon to wipe out my whole team, even my precious quilava"
Both he and Shadow had to work hard not to jump up and attack him at the statement, not that they could easily move. Instead he gritted his teeth and shoved his hand into Shadow's mouth. Instinctively, she bit down, puncturing the skin slightly and making both of them yelp in shared discomfort
Why are they so angry? Double exposition time: Bradley beat Lava most of her life, and also raped her once in the forest. After Tyler and his mate walked in on that act, they battled and he made her fight Shadow when she could barely move from the latter of his crimes. And that's not even mentioning what he had his team do to Shadow following their battle. Now you're up to speed a bit more
"And then, he makes my quilava turn on me!" Bradley continued, "then he had his own pokémon attack me directly and he straight up punched me in the face"
Tyler's free hand, the one not being bitten, dug its nails into the arm rest he was attached to and Shadow's claws kneaded his leg, not in frustration, but anticipation. Both of their anger levels were rising and feeding off of each other
"So then, when I finally recover my property-my quilava that he stole, he chases me down and starts a fist fight in middle of the road. All I wanna do is take her home and made sure she's alright"
That was it, Tyler snapped and jumped up. The handcuff keeping him attached to the chair remained strong, though the chair gave in to his demands, as it did for Shadow. Both of them were out of the chair, across the room, and had Bradley up and against the wall before anyone could stop them or even figure out what was going on. It was like they had both used a sudden quick attack
"How dare you!" he screamed, shadow latching her teeth into Bradley's leg
And now you're up to speed...
___
"You never cared about her!" Tyler yelled, slamming him back again, "you raped her! You beat her for her whole life! You made her fight me after you and your fucking mankey raped her. She could barely move and you made her fight Shadow like a fucking martyr"
The officers renewed their efforts to fight the two's grips, though they noted it for later and continued to fail in their efforts. Four other officers continued to hold back Slash, keeping his blades a safe distance from themselves and Bradley
"You are a fucking bastard! You fucking piece of shit!" Tyler screamed, tears in his eyes
A blue arm slammed into his neck, ripping him from Bradley and sending him and one of the officers slamming into and skidding across the floor for a few feet. A kick did the same to Shadow, though Tyler caught her before her smaller body hit the ground
The woman from earlier stood beside her swampert. The officer who had fallen with Tyler got up and pinned his shoulders down while another grabbed his legs. Shadow remained in him arms
"Get him some help with his leg," she ordered, one of the officers immediately went to fulfill it, "and you, you stole a pokémon"
Tyler growled, "he-"
"He trained his pokémon," she said, glaring at Tyler like he was a member of team rocket, "you stole his quilava. You assaulted a fellow trainer, twice. You had your pokémon attack him directly with the intent of harm. It is not possible for a pokémon to be charged with rape. And if the quilava did not wish it then she would have resisted and I don't see any burn marks on him"
Tyler was dumbfounded, "but-"
"If a trainer's pokémon are in danger of mistreatment, serious injury, or are intentionally stolen, they may take any measures to protect, save, or reacquire their pokémon, even if it means that they must harm the initial thief," she said simply, "this includes attacking another trainer's pokémon outside of battle, attacking a trainer directly, or other 'underhanded' acts. You are the only one who has broken any laws. He has simply acted within his rights as a trainer"
"You can't possibly-"
"And if I recall correctly, it was your pokémon," she indicated Shadow, "who was walking aboard the SS Lapras covered in what appeared to be semen"
Tyler just lay there, holding Shadow to his chest, both for his comfort and to keep her from attacking the woman
"If anyone is to be punished it will be you. You're lucky I haven't already had the police take your pokémon away from you and confiscated your trainer license myself"
"You can't..."
"Oh I can, I'm Marybeth, water-type gym leader of Tide Island, and representative of the Pokémon League"
Tyler couldn't do anything except hold his mate as tight as he could. Again, tears were running down his face. Shadow was crying as well, her fur stained with the salty droplets. But hers were just a byproduct of Tyler, and she quickly came up with a plans
"You don't know who you're talking to," the umbreon growled something Tyler never would have
"Oh I don't do I, pokémon?" Marybeth said coldly, "from what I can tell, this is Tyler, son of Janet and Brian and next in line to inherit the region's largest pokémon ranch"
Both of them stared at her. Duh, they both thought, of course she'd know about them, all the Pokémon League would.
The officers stared at Tyler and Marybeth. The ones holding Tyler released him and backed away afew steps. One thought about helping him up, but Marybeth cut him off
"Pha, just because you're the son of a couple powerful people you think you can just steal people's pokémon and break any laws you want don't you?"
Tyler couldn't move, was that why she was so vehement about this? Because she thinks he's some spoiled brat? Tyler had never used his connections to his advantage, other than that one girl he tried to hit on. Hell, he'd never been given anything beyond the usual presents and gifts a kid gets at Christmas or a winey child gets in the super market when they ask enough. He had to work since he was ten, raising pokémon, feeding them, breeding them, birthing them, training them.
"You little bitch," Shadow growled, "because he's got well known parents you assume he can do whatever he wants? You think he would?"
"Shut up pokémon, you'll be in someone else's care soon enough," she assured her
Tyler slowly stood up, keeping Shadow pressed to his chest. His head was lowered, his eyes hidden behind his bangs, "I'm calling my mom"
___
"Hello Marybeth," Janet said sweetly, looking at the gym leader through the video phone, "why are you calling me from your town's police department?" she chuckled, "for a second I was afraid to pick up 'cause I thought it would be my son"
Marybeth moved, revealing said offspring. Janet froze and stared in a mix of two parental emotions; one: total worry and concern that something terrible has happened, and two: annoyance that now she was going to have to deal with it
"Hey mom," Tyler said meekly, waving a still handcuffed hand
"Hey Janet," Shadow said, giving a weak grin from where she was still being hugged
Their mother sighed and closed her eyes a moment, "what did you do?"
Before Tyler could answer, Marybeth stepped in, "he stole a trainer's pokémon, assaulted that trainer both himself and with his pokémon, twice"
"Thank you Marybeth," she answered, "Tyler, what happened"
The water gym leader humphed and stood aside, arms crossed
"I got into a fight with a jackass," he answered
"What kind of jackass?"
Tyler thought a moment of how to respond, "he has a quilava and three fighting-types," he began, "and the quilava he had as a starter. He...mom, he beat her and just used her as a tool"
His mom sighed again, of course it had to be Marybeth who caught him while that was going on, "and so you did what?"
"He challenged me to a fight and he wagered her"
"Against what?"
Tyler hugged his pokémon closer
"I see...best not tell Aqua about that. And I assume you won"
"Yeah, but I wasn't trying to take her, I just wanted him to stop...doing what he was doing to her"
"What did you catch him doing to her?"
Tyler thought about it, "he was beating her, along with one of his pokémon"
"Supposedly," Marybeth cut in, "the other trainer raped the quilava"
If she hadn't been towns and towns away, Janet would have jumped right out of the video phone and demanded to know where this guy was. Thankfully, for Bradley, she remained fairly calm
"I see, and you caught him doing that?" she asked, eyes closed and fists clenched
"...yeah"
She let out a long breath, "where is he now?"
"Back there," Tyler said, gesturing towards the waiting room
"And have you taken his pokémon and license Marybeth?"
"It is nearly impossible to 'rape' a pokémon such as a quilava," she answered, "and your son failed to acquire the pokéball or proof of the transfer"
"I see," again, luckily she was pretty far away, "still haven't changed huh Beth?"
The gym leader simply stood in her place, refusing to comment
"Well then, since he likes to wager his pokémon so much, I have an idea..."
"Oh?"
His mom smiled, "does the quilava have a name?"
"I named her Lava"
"Well then, listen here. You too Beth. Oh, and nice eyes Shade"
