At the end of the world, or very nearly to it, one scavenger heads into the wastes, only to come across a species he's never seen or heard of before. They watch his every move, as if waiting for him to take one wrong step...

It wasn't air, not quite. There was a faint sickly warmth to it, but even worse was the pressure fighting back against movement. The sky was thick and orange, full of a never ending haze of dust, pollution and regret. Every waking hour was bathed in the citrine fog, making it impossible to tell what time of day it was or see more than half a mile in any direction. It reduced everything to silhouettes and shadows. If there had been anything beyond the boundary to make a sound, it likely would have been muffled.

A faint shuddering ripple passed through the repulsor shield at the edge of the sanctuary as a figure stepped through, his outline sending out waves of rainbow prismatic light around the bubble. Even as the explorer kept walking, the shield still flickered gently as it filtered air from dust. Gradually the choppy stuttering sound reduced to a faint humming and then dead silence. There wasn't even a sound to the granules of rust colored sand as it blew across the parched roadway, collecting against the edges of what had once been houses or stores, their shells worn away to leave nothing but bones.

Rego embraced the quiet, thinking of those back in the sanctuary, hoping they were all asleep while he risked his life. It rested easier on his conscience than picturing them awake, wondering where he was. If they only knew... He was beyond the barrier, communing with the great nothingness. His footsteps were silent as the tread of his boots sunk into the coating of dust. Even his respirator was silent, expelling the exhaust through thousands of tiny membrane holes as his almond brown eyes focused ahead. It was easy for the twenty year old to feel like he was the only person alive. On this side of the shield, it was likely true.

With careful attention, Rego's eyes did their best to refocus as he studied the horizon. It was the small stuff that disappeared the easiest in the haze. Everything in the sanctuary was so busy and cluttered, but out here it was all simplified. One of his friends had called it 'post-apocalyptic minimalism'. Looking to the horizon, Rego could see why. An almost perfect dome rose up like a forgotten monument, the dark silhouette breaking the angry canvas of orange, brown and red behind it. The curved edge was distinct and clear along the top, but where it started to slope downward there was a piece missing, the edges outlined by a haphazard hexagonal cut.

The scavenger's dark form continued on, particles of dust landing momentarily on his gunmetal gray suit before drifting away in coriolis curls from his movement. The textured material regulated his body heat and blocked radiation, the hood pulled up over to fasten along the edge of his gas mask. A horizontal transparent slit afforded him vision. The sleek outline of the suit graduated into revealing the harness straps that held his backpack in place, smaller hip pouches riding either side just below. Rego inhaled and exhaled, mindful of his breathing as he felt his muscles buzz with anticipation.

Approaching the dome had felt more daunting than Rego had anticipated. The size of the structure played tricks on him, always seeming closer than it actually was... but the closer he got, the more the monolith rose into the sky, becoming less a ghost in the haze and more a real, tangible object. When Rego finally came to the outer perimeter, he reached out a gloved hand, resting it on the ceramic tile. It felt firm, smooth, real... He inclined his head, looking up at the sheer scale of it all. Would this be the legacy humanity left behind? Abnormal shapes half hidden in a dusty landscape? A soft cramp from Rego's stomach reminded him that a meal in the short term was worth far more than a legacy in the long run.

Rego held out his hand as he took a few steps back, flexing his fingers in a practiced set of motions. The sides of his backpack slithered open for a moment before four long ovoid membranes emerged, shimmering in the dull diffuse light around him. They flexed and firmed, taking on an X shape as the last system checks were processed. Rego looked at the heads up display to confirm, then lifted his head to study the slope of the dome. With one last breath to steel his nerves, he tapped his fingers together.

The silence was shattered as a heavy vibrational hum came from Rego's pack, the wings moving too fast for the human eye to see. They became a blur, throbbing with vitality and power in the particulate laced air. Rego bent his legs a little and then pushed off. It was a strange feeling to rise so rapidly into the air, arcing toward the edge of the dome several meters into the air. He barely made contact, using his gloves and the tips of his boots to push off again, continuing his ascent. This time he made it even higher, heading up along the curve of the dome, his feet gracing the tiles every so often as his trajectory shifted.

The vibration trickled through Regos's spine, filling him with an odd, comfortable sense of buzzing. He had to hold his jaw apart just to keep his teeth from chattering, but it was worth it. He'd made it nearly to the top of the dome before he touched down, testing his purchase on the smooth surface before he clicked his fingers and the wings fluttered to a stop. The silence engulfed Rego in an instant, almost oppressive in its completeness. Rego remained still as he assessed his position and caught his breath, though the view before him threatened to take it all away again. Whether it was because of the thinner air or greater height, he could see the road continue on further into the fog, splitting into a fork and disappearing into the sand a short distance before a colossal statue of a human head rose out of the atmospheric soup, a stone hand rising skyward a few meters away as if pleading for an escape that would not come.

Rego shook his head, trying to bring his focus back to where he was and what he was doing. His gaze shifted to the gap in the surface of the dome. It was an irregular shape, the border defined by uneven gaps of missing hexagonal tiles. He'd have to be even more careful as he approached. The tiles around the hole were likely compromised as well. Rego was starting to devise his angles of approach when he heard something cut through the imposing silence around him. His back tightened, his eyes wary. It hadn't been the sound of a tile falling or support beams creaking. It was a sound Rego had only heard in holos from before the fall, the sound of some sort of animal.

"You're just hearing things, Rego. Get back to work." he muttered to himself, taking a step toward the opening in the dorm. One step was all it took to prompt a flurry of yips and then a mid range rumbling vibration that sounded like some sort of growl. Rego froze in place, not daring to move anything other than his eyes. It had to be his ears playing tricks on him, it just had to be... With the slightest turn of his head and his eyes drawn to the outer edge of his peripheral version, he saw them...

Three dark shapes marked the center of the road that ran along the side of the dome, rising up like some sort of inverted shadow. Their outline was clearly not human, seeming to be sitting with four legs collected close together while long, thick, sharp looking tails swept back and forth behind them. Their heads were angular with sharp muzzles and tall triangular ears, but as much as Rego felt like he had to study their bodies, he couldn't look away from the twin pairs of glowing turquoise eyes each creature had.

A moment passed, a half dozen heartbeats. Rego didn't move and the creatures remained motionless, apart from a flexing of one of their triangle ears or the hypnotic sway of their tails. Rego had to remind himself he'd used a wing pack to get up to the top of the dome. Whatever those creatures were, they didn't seem to have wings. Rego took another step towards the gap, looking back to the road. The beasts had jumped to their feet and were running back and forth, the frantic yipping sounding almost like some sort of animalistic laugh. Each of their four glowing eyes looked to him, then each other, paws padding back and forth through the dust.

Rego tried to remember his survival training, but none of it had covered animals that were not in the encyclopedia. He knew nothing about these beasts, but it was clear he only had two options; continue into the dome and risk that they had a way inside, or try to get back to the safety of the sanctuary. Both seemed challenging given that his slightest move excited the beasts as much as it had. Rego took a few careful, controlled breaths to steady himself, looking back up the road. He couldn't see it from this distance through the fog, but it wasn't that far.

Another flurry of yups broke out the instant that Rego started to move, but there was no doubt or hesitation. His feet pounded across the ceramic tiles of the dome as he tried to build up speed, using gravity to his advantage. Rego resisted the urge to look down at the shadow foxes, or whatever they were, at least until he heard the barks going quiet a moment before he heard a strange scraping crunch. The scavenger turned his head and looked down, his heart sinking a little in his chest. The foxes hadn't been sitting at the base of the dome because they had no other choice, it had only been an issue of convenience.

The beasts were scrabbling up the side of the dome, claws slicing into the monument as they climbed. Each of them had their four glowing azure eyes set on their quarry. Rego couldn't have been sure if they had ever seen a human before, but he had to hope they weren't prepared for his next trick. The slope of the dome grew steeper and more perilous with each step until Rego extended his foot forward and there was nothing beneath to meet it. For half a second Rego felt as though he'd gambled and lost, but a sudden flurry of thumping vibration exploded behind him as his wing pack sprang to life.

A giddy smile crossed Rego's lips as he descended towards the ground half way between gliding and falling. The equipment had not been designed to operate in such a way, intended instead to be used for short hops. Still, it would work well enough to slow his descent and keep him from hurting himself. The haze swirled and shifted around him, the dust glinting in the diffused light. It was magical in its own way, mesmerizing even... at least until Rego saw the color reflecting off of the particulate shift from orange to turquoise. He had only an instant to draw in breath before the heavy weight hit him in the shoulders.

The sudden increase in mass was too much for the wing pack, sending both Rego and the shadow fox crashing to the ground. They rolled, skidding and sliding, kicking up a plume of ash and dust behind them until Rego slid to a stop. His elbows ached, his shoulder ached more, and there was an unsettling searing warmth on his leg. Rego blinked, feeling his heart thumping in his skull. He reached out with one hand to brace himself and pushed himself upright, looking around. A shadow slithered and shifted a few feet away, as dazed by the impact as he was. It slowly lifted itself up, four eyes blinking before it turned around and met eyes with him.

Rego didn't move, mere feet away from the creature. He'd read about dogs before, and foxes, but the elders had claimed all such creatures had gone extinct. This beast was bigger than either. Its pointed ears rotated, angling towards Rego. The thick, lizard-like tail started to wag to one side and then sway to the other. Rego slowly started to lift himself up more, intending to bring his leg under his stomach so he could brace and push off into a run. Even the shifting of his weight elicited a series of barking yips from the shadow fox.

"We're not getting into that again, okay? You're a nice pup, but I need to get home..." Rego said. The shadow fox tilted its head curiously, obviously not understanding. Rego didn't much care as long as he could get back to the sanctuary. Even with the unexpected crash, he'd made it a good thirty yards closer than he'd predicted. "It was nice meeting you, although iI don't suggest hitchhiking on anyone that flies next time." Rego said, standing up. The shadow fox lowered its angular head, claws digging into the stone ground. Rego couldn't hear a growl, but he could feel it in his chest and stomach, a reverberation in his diaphragm. It was a low and steady rumble that shook him to his core, and it was growing by the second.

More blue eyes emerged from the orange fox, a shower of pulverized ceramic peppering the ground as the other two shadow foxes slid down the last few feet of the dome and galloped over to sidle up behind their leader. Once again, Rego did not wait. He pivoted on his heel and broke into a run, but once again the weight of another creature hit him in the back, sending him sprawling to his chest. He hit with enough force that his face smacked the front of his helmet, the impact dislodging it and sending it toppling along the dust caked road.

Without thinking, Rego gasped for air, but he got something else instead. His head swam in dizzy confusion, the skin of his olive tinted skin tingling from exposure. The muffled quiet of the ruins was even more ominous without the sound trapped in his helmet. Greasy black hair fell across his face, hazel eyes dilating. Sweat began to bead across his brow, running down his fair cheeks. His fingers tightened and then relaxed before tightening again. It was just a little exposure, he could get treatment, it wasn't too late. Rego looked around to get his bearings but it was so much harder to see without his helmet. It was as if he was sitting inside a cloud bank.

Eight bright gleaming eyes blinked open in the haze and Rego felt that silent, reverberating growl swelling up inside his diaphragm. He inhaled even sharper as something slowly pressed onto his shoulder. It was firm but soft in the center, but then came the deadly, sharp talon tips of the claws that had cut into the ceramic tiles of the dome. The paw pressed into his shoulders, forcing Rego to lean forward. A second came down on his other shoulder as the shadow fox started to put more weight against him. Flying hadn't worked, running hadn't worked... It seemed he was going to have to fight.

Rego rolled suddenly, trying to slip out from the shadow fox's grasp. The beast yipped as the human shifted, but it lunged with its hind legs, knocking Rego down and landing on his stomach. The two struggled a little, rolling as their hips crashed together. Rego looked up into those four glowing eyes, feeling the hot moist breath panting out of the creature's nostrils. Rego opened his mouth to let out a yell of fury and defiance, but as he opened his mouth, an oily slick black tongue shot out from the shadow fox's muzzle and plunged deep into Rego's lips.

The invasion was shocking enough, but the fizzling, tingling, sickly tart saliva blossomed across his mouth, coating his teeth and tongue in an instant. The tongue slithered in deeper into his mouth and the fox inched upwards until Rego felt something equally heavy and hot pressing against his lap. The fox began to move its tongue forward and back, probing Rego's mouth before it sent the tentacle like appendage down his throat. There was a sudden eruption of that same tingling tart saliva as it poured down his throat, filling the human's stomach.

Hadn't Rego had a gag reflex once? Wasn't it natural to feel strange with something that thick and long lodging itself down his throat? Even as Rego's lips darkened, he couldn't help but feel as though everything was going to be alright after all. He didn't hurt anymore, he wasn't scared. If anything, he felt as though he'd been found by friends... wonderful friends, friends that had been so worried for him and now they were so happy to be with him and for him to be with them. Rego's eyes slipped shut as he began to lick his tongue against the shadow fox's, feeling the undulating pulse as it delivered the venom deep into his stomach. Rego sucked and slurped on it, his eyes fluttering shut.

With each gulp, tiny dark lines radiated outward from Rego's lips. Dark circles formed under his eyes as well, his ears darkening soon after. Splotches formed in his otherwise acorn tinted skin, the pigment shifting to absorb all light. As delighted as Rego was to receive the alpha's blessing, he soon felt two more wet noses sniffing and nuzzling against his neck. Their powerful paws came up before deadly claws carefully sank into the gunmetal gray suit, cutting through the complex material. Faint pulsing beeps came as the protective mesh was broken, revealing more of Rego's darkening skin.

The scavenger's black wavy hair had started to creep down along his spine, growing downward and outward from anything that was remotely normal. One of the shadow foxes moved to nuzzle and then lick his ear, the dark oily tongue sliding across cartilage as it popped and reshaped, growing into a point. The tip of the prehensile tongue dipped into Rego's ear, making him shiver with delight as it probed deeper before sliding out again. With a few more licks, his ear began to burn and throb, aching as it began to climb up the side of his head, rustling through the curls of his hair.

The third fox only licked half as much as the second, but probing as deeply as it could, Rego's left ear was soon joining the first in its northward migration. The creatures continued to paw and claw at him, cutting down the back of his suit, revealing the angular bulges pressing out against strained flesh. His vertebrae felt hot and sharp, but his skin was growing tougher over them. The skin tightened, firmed, and then thickened. As the dark pigment spread out, the skin took on a texture halfway between leather and rubber.

More tearing came as the suit was split down over Rego's ass. A confused trill of yips came from the third fox as it leaned its muzzle down and sniffed at their new packmate's posterior. It had never seen an ass with padding like that before. The beast parted its muzzle, its slack tentacle tongue shooting out to slip between Rego's cheeks. He let out a muffled moan, his black back arching as his ass was filled with squirming warm goodness. With a few curious thrusts of its tongue, the third fox was satisfied and withdrew it, only to lunge at Rego from behind.

Heavy paws clumsily fell over his shoulders as the shadow fox mounted him, sliding something much wider and thicker than a tongue between the cheeks of his ass. Rego's eyes widened in wonder as the fox mounted him, counterbalanced against that thick tail as it thrust its hips forward and back, wedging his large shaft in more each time. The fox panted, long sticky drool leaking from its muzzle to soak into Rego's dark hair. A drunken look of pleasure crossed Rego's face as he was fucked in one end and tongued in the other, but sensing the rapid onset of sex, the alpha seemed to feel he was missing out and he soon withdrew his tentacle tongue.

A frustrated series of yips came from the alpha's muzzle before he circled impatiently, heavy tail swaying behind him. Rego looked out in his stupor to see that the shadow fox was entirely black apart from his turquoise eyes and his turquoise cock. It was impressive, easily three times larger than a human's. It tapered to a point, though several ridges formed a sort of terraced step shape as the broad base worked its way down to the dangerous tip. The alpha let out another silent, reverberating growl, trying to figure out how its beta had bested him in claiming their newest packmate.

Using what little rationality he had left, Rego leaned forward, bringing himself down onto his elbows and forearms, opening his dark mouth wide. His swollen tongue lolled out from between sharpening teeth, squirming and moving with a new inhuman flexibility. The Alpha chattered with yips of realization and lunged forward, popping his front paws up onto Rego's shoulders while the inertia carried his swollen member right into the scavenger's mouth. Rego's eyes fluttered shut again as he began to suck and slurp on the tangy, tart, salty cock in his mouth.

Rego felt no tiredness, weariness or soreness. He barely felt his body apart from the two holes filled with the mighty, powerful cocks of the shadow foxes. This felt right, as if he'd finally found where he was meant to be. Pointed ears twitched from the top of Rego's head, a black stain seeping down across his forehead and cheeks to join the corrupted pigment that ringed his eyes and lips and chin. His fingers had swollen, the fingerprints eroded away as his skin took on the tough rubbery texture of his new packmates.

There were faint scuffling sounds as paws and claws slid around the dusty ground, the creatures going to town double teaming Rego. It was all relatively quiet until an anxious quartet of yips came from the second shadow fox. He had been pacing back and forth, watching the others have their fun when it had been him that had spotted the poor lost human in the first place. If it hadn't been for him, the scavenger wouldn't have found the joy of the pack. The fox wasn't sure what to do at first, but something oddly sweet and salty filled his nostrils. The fox sniffed a few more times before its four glowing eyes were drawn down to the tattered rags of Rego's suit.

The protective material had sagged away from Rego's body, hanging in limp dipping arcs from where it had been filleted down the spine. Extending from the scavenger's groin was an achingly hard, albeit average sized manhood. The second fox sniffed a little before it leaned down, closing all four glowing blue eyes. As its maw parted, the slick black tentacle tongue uncoiled, wrapping around and encasing Rego's cock. The tongue began to undulate and writhe, working from base to tip as if it was trying to milk the humanity out of the lost soul.

For the first time in hours, Rego felt as if he was finally hearing. His black pointed ears shifted atop his head, listening to the faint howl of the wind pressing against the haze. He heard the hungry slurps of the tongue on his cock and the wet, sloppy smacks of the twin pistons moving in and out of his ass and mouth. He heard the scrape of claws and he lifted his own hand to caress the rubbery hip so near his face. His own fingernails caught the surface of the alpha's skin, having stretched into points when Rego wasn't looking, but the skin was resilient enough to avoid damage.

The harder Rego held on, the more his fingers shifted. They contracted in length, but his palms and fingertips tingled as the flesh swole up into jet black paw pads. The curve of his fingernails increased, the keratin honing into wicked points. Soft, muffled popping sounds came as the changes worked their way through his wrist, his elbow, and eventually his shoulder before crossing over to the other side and spiraling down to his other paw.

Every thrust, every flex, every movement sent Rego rocking back and forth on his haunches. The muscle in his ass that had so perplexed the shadow fox spiraled down his legs as the hips, knees and ankles reworked themselves with pops and snaps beneath the tough hide he had gained. An ache had been growing so steadily at the base of Rego's spine that he hadn't realized it until a sudden rush released some of the pressure. A snap came, the sound of tearing rubber, and a gush of slick slime as a wriggling nub freed itself from above Rego's butt cheeks.

The newly minted flesh flexed and uncoiled, working out the kinks as muscles and ligament anchored properly. Rooted in place, the viscous liquid that had been pumped into Rego's stomach began to be consumed as raw materials, feeding the cells as they divided and multiplied, allowing the tail to slip around the third fox's hip before swaying out in the fog behind him. The fox yipped and panted with satisfaction, relieved that the shadow fox was being released from its prison inside the human. The beast fucked Rego harder, wanting to accelerate the process and bring him fully into the pack. His panting became happy yips, barks, and then a soulful howl as he raised his muzzle skyward.

Rego gasped, nearly gagging on the cock in his throat as the one in his ass suddenly slunk another six inches deeper before the terraced ridges expanded outward, lodging itself inside of his ass. A moment later he felt the hot, slick, ample seed of the shadow fox erupting deep inside of him. What little human flesh had remained on Rego's stomach soon darkened and tightened, the pigment so dark that no light could escape. Every pore, every crease, every follicle disappeared beneath the inky darkness.

Sensing the beta's orgasm, the alpha felt satisfied he had lasted longer. His thrusts into Rego's mouth sped up, diving deeper, working to a frenzy. Throwing his maw skyward, the alpha parted his muzzle and joined in the howling. The cock bloated in Rego's throat, locking itself in place, feeding him more of the apocalyptic seed that sealed his fate. While he could not move his head, his head moved around the cock. His lips numbed as they stretched, his jaw creeping forward inch by inch. It felt hot and numb, strange and fluid before cooling again.

As Rego's mouth elongated, it made more room for his teeth to stretch and grow sharper, rising into fangs. His own tongue slithered beneath the length tamping it down. Every inch of Rego's body was filled with warmth and a cozy darkness. His hair had grown smooth and slick, wavy in a mane that framed his canine skull. His heart raced, his lungs felt fine despite the lack of air and his own cock felt like it was being reshaped and remoled by a master artisan. He shivered and quivered, his hips feeling weak until his balls - all four of them - pulsed inside his tight rubber sack, producing the slick slime that shot out of his cock.

In the first moment, the seed filled up the coles tongue the second fox had created around Rego's manhood. It marinated the shaft, soaking it and washing it before eventually being drawn up by the creature. The shadow fox shivered in delight at how the seed was oddly sweet at first before becoming the tart flavor common to their pack. He savored the essence before uncoiling his tongue, revealing Rego's bluish-black cock. The ridges had swollen, the tapered levels flaring to their widest. It was a proud cock, one worthy of their kind. As the orange fog blew against the naked canine cock, Rego suddenly came harder, sending out jet after jet of black goo. The second fox leaned down to greedily drink from their newest brother.

Unable to howl himself, Rego merely clenched his eyes shut, his muzzle spread wide by the alpha's shaft. His eyes felt white hot inside his head, aching. For a moment it felt as though he couldn't open them again, his face tightening as the skin became rubbery and tough. The muscles shifted involuntarily, twitching and flexing, contracting and constraining before there was an unsettling squishing inside his skull, a wet and disorienting movement, and then a sudden relief.

Rego opened his eyes, all four of them. Bright turquoise light spilled out from them, illuminating the dust beyond. The skin across his face, his neck, and his entire body had taken on the exact shade of light absorbing black. Even his unusual mane of black hair had taken on a firmer texture, betraying no glint or shine of any kind. He was a living shadow, a silhouette, a hunter in the void. His thick, powerful tail swayed happily behind him as he accepted the last of the alpha's seed.

With the deed done, the beta and the alpha both detached from Rego's body, landing back on all fours. There was no ceremony, no pomp or circumstance. They were animals and they had completed what their instincts had driven them to do. Rego slowly lifted himself up onto his four canine legs, his bloated blue canine cock wobbling beneath his slender, inky black body. He licked the lips of his new muzzle, his pointed ears twitching.

The newly minted shadow fox gave a sudden shake of his body, rotating it along the axis of his spine. The tattered remains of the environment suit fell off of Rego's body like some sort of molted, shed skin. It fell into the dust, motionless as orange particulate began to fall across it, working already to hide the evidence of the event. The other foxes began to pad along the road, heading back toward the statue reaching longingly toward the stars. Rego let out a yip of protest before pouncing after them, narrowly missing the broken wing pack with one of his paws.

The saturating radiation of the orange haze no longer bothered Rego. It did not tingle or burn, it was merely a pleasant, steady warmth that made his muscles feel spry and agile. The air was not oppressive, passing through his nostrils to a strange gil like structure inside his sinuses. Rego's glowing turquoise eyes blinked, taking in the horizon. He still couldn't see much farther than he had before his rebirth, but what little movement there was lit up to him like a beacon.

Every step was erased as the dust fell in behind them. The four foxes moved in silence and secret. It could not be said that their kind had gone unseen by humans, but no humans had seen them and returned to their own kind to share word of the shadow beasts that roamed the ruins. Perhaps in time, as their numbers grew, stories would be told of the foxes that added to their pack by corrupting the humans that had destroyed their own world. For now, they were merely scavengers roaming the landscape to find their next meal or their next mate.
