Chapter 1 : Not Such a Good Beginning
The light shined brightly on the wolf as he stared out the window. Lost in thought he didn't notice someone standing beside him. An older wolf came up with a book and hit him lightly on top of his head.
"What the hell," the wolf said madly as his thoughts were interrupted.
The older wolf sighed while walking back to his seat. "Once more you're not paying attention to me, brother."
"It's not my fault that this is boring as hell," the wolf said, he got up and walked outside of the study room.
Like the days before, the older wolf was once more left alone. "Why do I even bother trying to get him ready?" the wolf asked himself as he got up and placed the book back onto the shelf.
.......................................
The wolf walked outside and into the gardens where lately he has been spending most of his time. It was almost the end of spring but the gardens were lively with bright colors. He loved coming to this place to get away from his previous studies and have time by himself, thinking of the past as he frowned on what he had done.
While walking he heard a small noise and turned to in time to see a pup jump at him, the wolf of course, was not fully prepared, and lost his balance, falling to the ground.
"Uncle play with me," the pup whined as he clung to the wolf.
"I'm not in the mood," he responded.
The pup just frowned and looked hurt. "But you never play with me anymore."
The wolf looked away and undid the young pups grip. "Froshen, I had no..."
He was interrupted by a guard that came running up to him. "Lord Icewaver, your assistance is needed at the front gate." Icewaver sighed as he nodded, he looked down at the pup and smiled. Icewaver bent down, picked the young pup up, and started to carry him on his shoulders, Froshen laughed when being picked up and had a big smile across his muzzle.
When they both arrived at the gate Icewaver's smile left when he saw a slim female wolf standing patiently waiting for him. Once in view the female's tail started to wag instantly.
"Hello how my I help you?" Icewaver said when he approached her.
The wolf just blushed. "Umm... I'm here to go on our date that has been arranged for us."
Icewaver just sighed. 'Damn it brother, why do you keep doing these things,' he thought to himself. "Listen, I'm sorry for any misunderstanding about this but..."
He was cut off when she stepped forward. "Oh there is no misunderstanding my lord. I was asked by your brother to go out with you." She smiled.
"I know, that's the problem." Icewaver shook his head in frustration. "I'm not looking to date anyone at all, now if you'll excuse me." The wolf turned towards the palace and started to walk inside.
Froshen started to giggle while still on the wolf's shoulders. "That makes twenty eight uncle."
"Yeah, I wish your father would stop doing this to me." Shaking his head the wolf reached up over his head and grabbed the pup under his arms, he lifted the pup up and off his shoulders just as they reached the doorway. Froshen giggled and when his paws touched the floor the pup ran ahead of the wolf, Icewaver smiled and shook his head.
Icewaver walked into the palace and wandered up to his room, as he entered a human quickly stood up and bowed. "Evening sir, anything for me to do?"
The wolf's smile left his face as memories of his pup came back to him. "No, not right now." The human sat back down in the chair near the window. Icewaver's father insisted that the slave work for him since he no longer had pup, after days of arguing the wolf took the human but deep down no matter what no human would replace his love.
Icewaver walked into his room and walked to his closet, once he had the door opened the wolf reached in and grasped a handle. He stepped back and lifted his sword up and rested onto his back, once he had it at the position he liked it he wrapped the straps around his torso and tied the sheath tightly. Once ready Icewaver headed out of his room and closed his door behind him, the human stood when the wolf passed without a word to him and left the human with nothing to do. Icewaver walked slowly out behind the palace and into town, he continued on his path ignoring all that greeted him or bowed till he reached his destination.
A small outpost just on the edge of town was unmanned, Icewaver took a deep breath as he opened the door and walked inside. The ladder that leads up to the top was old and looked as if it could give out at any minute. The wolf climbed it quickly to reach the top, when he finally did there was nothing but two seats. After undoing his straps he gently set the sword on the edge of the wall, he sat down and looked out into the horizon. A thud came from beneath him that let him know that someone had closed the door that he left open. Waiting for a little bit a head popped up from the hole in the floor of a young wolf that Icewaver would pin at maybe seventeen.
The wolf staggered the rest of the way up and onto the floor, nervously undoing the ties on the sheath to his sword that was strapped to his waist. Once the wolf managed to get it undone he placed the weapon on the wall besides Icewaver's but he did set it up straight and Icewaver could hear the metal scratch against the wall and fall on his as the two weapons fell onto the floor.
"Oh shit," the young wolf said while trying to pick up the objects but when he bent over he felt a paw on his shoulder. The wolf looked up at Icewaver while he was gently pushed into the small seat beside him. Icewaver shook his head while bending over to pick up the fallen swords and properly placed them onto the wall.
"I-I'm sorry my lord, I just didn't think you were on the same watch as I was," the wolf said nervously.
Icewaver just looked over to the small wolf that sat beside him. "I wasn't, I told Frik to take the shift off."
"Ok but I don't understand, why would you take over someone's shift? I mean you don't have to stand guard," the wolf said.
"I have my reasons," Icewaver simply said as he looked out to a set of mountains that were barely in view. The thought of who was there lingered in his memories.
They both sat in silence as Icewaver just kept to himself, thinking, he heard rustling next to him that drew his attention. When he looked to his side he saw the wolf next to him was staring up at him but quickly looked away.
"What is it?" Icewaver asked.
The wolf shifted nervously. "Umm...its nothing."
"Speak whelp." Icewaver growled.
The wolf whimpered as he shifted his paws between his legs. "I was just wondering if the rumors were true."
"What rumors?" Icewaver asked without sounding too irritated.
"About you being in love with a slave," he said.
Icewaver let out a long sigh, he leaned forward and rested his arms on his legs as he looked away from the wolf. "Yes I am."
"Umm...where is she now?" the wolf asked now that he's more curious.
"First off Pup isn't a female, second I let him go," Icewaver said with a bit of hurt in his voice, the memories of him letting his pup go that day still haunts him till this day.
"But why," the wolf continued, "you loved him right, then why would you send him away?" The wolf now sounding eager to know as he moved closer to Icewaver.
Icewaver looked at the wolf now, tears about to come out of his eyes. "Because I can't protect him, I seen him get hurt too many times because I couldn't be there to make sure he was safe," the wolf yelled.
The young guard's ears fell flat against his head as he let out a small whimper. "I-I'm sorry my lord, I did..."
"Don't worry about it." Icewaver cut the young wolf off.
The guard just looked down at the floor. The remainder of the watch was spent in silence, Icewaver looked away from the young wolf and whipped the tears away before they started to fall down his face and become noticeable. He couldn't help it, just the thought of getting on the subject about his pup didn't go well with his emotions. After what seemed like an eternity to the young wolf their watch was finally over, they both grabbed their swords and climbed down off the post. Icewaver walked back to the palace not before turning around and taking one last look at the mountains in the horizon.
"I hope that you can forgive me pup," the wolf said to himself as he turned back and headed for his home.
..........................
The sun was setting by the time he reached the front doors, once again walking quietly not talking to anyone till he got to his room.
"How was your watch sir?" the slave asked once Icewaver opened the door.
Icewaver walked past the human and towards his bed. "It was ok." He took his sword off his back and placed it back in its spot in the closet. "You can go for the day," Icewaver said as he started to walk out of his room once more to head down to the dining room.
The human bowed and smiled. "Thank you sir." The slave waited patiently till the wolf was out of the room before the human left himself to head out to the small building where all the slaves slept.
The wolf made his way down to the dining room and opened the door, the first thing he noticed was that his brother gave him a surprised look that turned to anger. Then the wolf noticed that his father hasn't arrived yet. Icewaver made his way to the seat that was closest to where his mother was sitting, after giving his mom a small kiss on the cheek he slid the chair out and sat down.
"What are you doing here?" the elder brother asked.
Icewaver looked over at Froshen that started to giggle then turned his gaze back to his brother. "Well Luerist, since it is dinner time I have decided to come here and eat, if that's alright with you."
Luerist growled as he sat down. "You know damn well what I mean, you should be out on a date with the wolf I set you up with."
"Oh, is that what she was for. Damn I thought she was another slut trying to jump in my pants," Icewaver said with a smirk.
"You dumb-ass, you know that you're going to have to find a mate to be Alpha," his brother said while slamming his fist on the table.
Icewaver growled back. "I'm only agreed to become Alpha because you don't have the balls to do it, oh I'm sorry I forgot your family was the reason," Icewaver yelled. "But you know it didn't occur to you that even though you already have pups and a mate you can still be Alpha."
"I don't want them to..." his brother started.
"Enough," a loud roar came over everyone. Both brothers laid their ears back and slowly sat down.
Icewaver looked away from everyone. "Sorry father."
Galle walked into the room but he didn't look mad, unlike his voice made him sound just a moment ago. "It's alright, I don't want anyone fighting while at my table..." he said while scanning the room. "Understood?" Everyone shook their heads yes.
The Alpha sat down and the food was brought out to everyone. "Good, then eat," he said while pointing to the food on the table with the knife that was beside his plate. Galle looked over to his son and saw that since his return a while ago that his mood hasn't lifted. "How are you today Icewaver?" he asked, already knowing the answer.
"I'm alright," the wolf answered, but the sound of silverware dropping on the table brought his attention back to his brother.
"Oh come on! Are you still sulking over that human?" he asked, Icewaver just looked down at his plate and didn't say a word. "It's been three seasons ago since you left him back at his village, he probably don't even want to see you after what you have..."
Icewaver stood up quick enough to make the chair slide back as he walked out of the room, ignoring his father's call for him to stop. He headed for his room and slammed the door shut behind him. The wolf walked over to his bed and collapsed onto it. Turning his head he could see the moon full and bright shining through his window. Tears started to fall down his face as he missed his pup, the touch of the human, and the love he felt when he looked into his eyes. He thought about the human and wondered how he was doing.
.....................................
Kyo was sitting at his table in his cabin while resting his chin on his forearms that lay on the table beneath him. He looked up at the moon while tears fell down his face, only a single word came out of his mouth as he thought about the one person he wanted most.
"Master...."
