Chapter 7

Athena returned to the lair after a brief swim and found her brother Pyro out cold on the floor and her Father Kira bandaging his shoulder and ankles. "Father when did you get here and what happened?" she asked. "Just a little hunting accident Athena no needs to worry." He said. Athena then noticed Venus leaning against the cave wall appearing to be in deep thought. Athena knew better than bother Venus when she was thinking. "Where have you been?" Pyro asked when he finally came to. "That is none of your business and I only came back to relax a little bit before I go back to the tropics." She said. Venus knew she was hiding something. "Do you mind if I come with you?" She asked Athena. Athena simply shook her head and left. Venus decided she would follow her little sister to this beach she spoke of. Athena's dark purple scales gave her perfect camouflage in deep water but Venus could see her easily. A wind dragon's eye sight is 200 times better than a human's. A wind dragon can also see in the dark perfectly. A wind dragons eyes are so sharp that they could spot a nickel from 3000 feet in the air. So spying on Athena was no problem for Venus. When Athena got to the beach she saw Chase sleeping in the sun. "This is too easy" Athena thought as she notices the tide coming in. She crept silently to be Chase was sleeping and slapped her tail into the water causing a small wave of water to hit him. Chase instantly shot out of his chair only to find a certain dragoness on her back laughing. Chase could help but laugh him self. After a few minutes they finally stopped laughing. So what brings you here? He asked. I wanted to see you again and maybe hang out. She said with a smile. "Do you know how to swim Chase?" Athena asked. "Of course I know how to swim I do live on a beach don't I?" he said. Chase ran to the water and jumped in. Athena soon followed. After the swim Athena went to go catch some fish while Chase waited on the beach. Venus was watching the whole time and decided to make her presence known. She landed a short distance away and started to walk towards Chase. Chase was unaware of her presence until he saw a shadow cover his own. That is when he saw her. Sensing his fear Venus took a step back. "Don't be afraid. I will not harm you. I am Athena's sister." She said hoping he would relax. "Who are you?" Chase asked. "My name is Venus." She said with a bow.

"My name is Chase." He said. Venus and Chase talked for a few minutes when Athena came back. When she saw Venus standing in front of Chase she was filled with fear. "It is alright Athena I don't mind if you befriended this human and I will not tell the others." Venus said with a smile. Athena relaxed a little bit. Why are you here? She asked. "I wanted to find out where you were going so I followed you." Venus said. I can see why you would keep it secret."

Meanwhile back at Kiyo's house Sakura was thinking about what happened earlier. She still couldn't believe Kiyo was willing to give his life for hers. She was glad that they both survived. "He did everything in his power to protect Me." she thought to herself. She was brought out her back to reality when she heard a knock on her door. She knew it was time to go to the concert so she got ready. "Hurry up you two we're going to be late!" Jaden shouted. Kiyo and Sakura finally came out of the house and ran to the car. After a few minutes of driving they arrived at the stadium just as the show was about to start. Sakura was amazed at how many humans and furs came to the show. She also noticed that they were sitting in the front row. The band had four members and they were all female furs. There was a Collie that was playing the guitar while a Dalmatian played the drums, playing the keyboard was an Akita, and the lead singer was a vixen. Kiyo could believe how well they sang. He also noticed that the vixen was looking straight at Jaden as if she knew him. Kiyo now understood why Jaden liked this band so much. On a scale of 1 to 10 each girl was easily a 10 if not more. Then the vixen did something Jaden didn't expect. While she was singing she sat on the edge of the stage and held Jaden's hand with both of her paws and winked at him. This drove the crowd wild as they cheered and whistled. Jaden just stood there in shock. When he finally snapped out of it he looked at his hand and saw that she had given him three back stage passes. The trio was very surprised. After the show Kiyo, Sakura, and Jaden went back only to find two of the band members. The vixen was the firs to greet them. "You wait here for a moment we just need to get changed." She said. And then they went to the dressing room. "Mira going to the edge of the stage was risky." the Akita said. "Yes I know Yoshino but I had to find out if it was really him." Mira said. "Is he the one you told me about?" Yoshino asked.

I wasn't sure at first but after I was able to get his scent. Now I am certain the he is the one I have been looking for." Mira said as her tail stared to wag. "Good thing you sent the others out to go drinking" Yoshino said with a smirk. After a few minutes they came out the dressing room. Yoshino walked up to Sakura and looked straight in the eyes. "Do you eyes hurt?" she asked. Sakura started to get mad she hated it when someone mentioned her eyes. "No why?" she asked with soft growl. Kiyo knew that he could not break up the two canines if they started to fight Yoshino was the same size as Sakura and just as strong if not stronger he then noticed she was wearing designer sunglasses. "I only ask because you have the same mutation as me" Yoshino said as she took of sunglasses. Her eyes were lime green. Sakura was amazed that a famous fur like Yoshino would have the same mutation as her. Mira took Jaden into the dressing room so they could talk in private. "So did you like the show did you enjoy the show?" she asked. Jaden nodded too nervous to speak. "Are you ok you ok?" She asked. "I'm fine." Jaden said starting to relax. She smiled and started to wrap her long tail around him but he stopped her. She looked at him confuse. She could tell he didn't have a mate because of his scent. "Sorry but I am waiting for someone else. I know you're probably offended I will just leave." he said. He went to the door but she stopped him. "I'm the one who should be sorry. I made a move on you and caused you discomfort but please don't go. I want to know about this someone you speak of." She said with a small smile. Jaden sat down on a chair and she sat in front him. Her ears wear pointed in his direction as she gave him her full attention. (FLASH BACK)

10 years ago Jaden was walking home from school like he did everyday. The neighborhood he lived was right next to a fur sector. (A fur sector is a neighborhood inhabited only by furs.) There were fights on a regular basis. One day Jaden was relaxing at the park when he heard shouting. He knew that the humans and the furs shared this park because it was the only one around. He knew another fight was going on but unlike the rest of the kids in the area he did not hate the fur and believed that humans and fur could live together in peace. The other kids made fun of him for it and called him an animal lover. The furs didn't believe that either. As far as they were concerned human and furs could never be friends. The humans and furs went on fighting with each other. Jaden had very few friends because of his beliefs concerning furs. Jaden always helped the furs when they needed it but that still didn't change their views on humans and he was no exception. He never got involved with the fights because it wasn't his business. Then one day he was walking home when he saw a few human boys ganging up and a small vixen. Jaden decided to help her out and drove the guys away. "Are you alright?" he asked. The vixen nodded and ran away. Jaden though she was beautiful and felt bad that she almost got robbed. Then he noticed that she dropped necklace. It was defiantly worth a lot of money but he knew that the right thing to do is to give it back to her the next time he sees her. He went and waited at that spot every day after school to give her back the necklace when she didn't show up he checked at the park. Then one day he finally found her. She was at the park sitting on a bench crying. He walked up to her and tapped her on the shoulder. "What's wrong" he asked. She gave him a scared look. "I'm sorry for coming her please don't hurt me!" She cried. I'm not going to hurt you. I came to give you back the necklace you dropped the other day he said pulling out the necklace and putting it in the vixen's paw. She started to smile. "Why are you giving this necklace back to me? You could have made a lot of money." she said looking confused. "It wouldn't be right if I sold it because it isn't mine to sell it belongs to you." Jaden said with a proud grin. My name is Mira she said with a toothy smile. Normally Jaden would be a little intimidated when a fur shows its teeth but with her he found it very cute. The moment was cut short however when a kid from Jaden's class showed up. Well look what we have here. "There is a fur in my park and we can't have that." Mira was about to leave when Jaden stopped her. "She has every right to be here and I won't let you insult my friends you got that." Jaden said with anger in his voice. The kid threw a punch him at but Jaden was faster. He caught the kid's fist and flipped him over and slammed him on his back. Mira stood there with her muzzle hanging open trying to figure out what happened. They kid got up ran away crying. "I used to take Kong fu" Jaden said answering Mira's unasked question. "You never told me your name." she said. Oh, sorry my name is Jaden he said. Jaden do you really want fur as a friend? She asked. "I don't see anything wrong with making friends with fur." he said. "What do you get out it?" She asked in a serious tone. "What is that supposed to mean?" Jaden asked confused. "You know what it means Jaden. I am not so easily fooled. A human would not befriend a fur unless there was something in it for them. That is the way humans are so don't try to play dumb with me because I can see right through you." She said with a growl. Jaden was hurt by her accusations. "Look I only wanted to help you and show you that not all humans are bad. If I am as deceitful as you say I am then I would have sold your necklace when I had the chance. But I didn't I will admit that 99% of the humans in this would have sold without a second thought. I brought it back to you instead selling it for personal gain and even defended against another human. But if you think that it has all been an act that is fine with me. I won't bother again. Goodbye Mira" he said with a hurt look and left. When Mira got home she couldn't stop thinking about what Jaden said. The mores she thought about it the more she realized that he was right. She felt horrible about accusing him of being deceitful. He could have sold her necklace but instead he returned it. He protected her from the humans who tried to beat her up and never asked a reward of any kind. He was only tying to help her and she threw it in his back in his face. The guilt was too much for her and she started to cry. She decided that first thing after school she would go find Jaden beg for his forgiveness. For three days she looked for Jaden and was starting to lose hope until she found him helping a young fox kit get his football out of a tree. When finally got the football he gave to the little fox. He seemed very grateful and his mother thanked with a smile and started to tell the other fur about him. Soon a lot of other was talking to him out curiosity mostly a few furs even apologized for treating badly in the past and one fur even went as far to tell him that he could date his daughter if he wanted to. Jaden politely declined the offer but and was told that if he ever change his mind just ask. After a few hours the crow finally dispersed and Jaden sat on a bench by himself. Mira finally saw her chance and was very nervous. "Hello Jaden." she said quietly. Jaden didn't say anything. He just gave her a cold stare. Mira could tell by the look in his eyes that he was still hurt pretty bad. "Are you okay?" she asked. Why do you even care? He said with a bitter tone in his voice. "I deserve that." She said with her ears pinned against her head. "Jaden there is no excuse for how I treated you. I know you must have mixed feelings about seeing me. I just wanted to tell you that I'm so sorry. I called you a liar and a cheat. That couldn't be farther from the truth. You were the first person outside my family to treat me like an equal. You have proven to be trust worthy and I was too blind to see it. I know I don't deserve it but could you please try to forgive me?" She pleaded. Jaden just hugged Mira tightly and whispered in her ear "I already have". Mira returned the embrace and cried on his shoulder. From that moment they were best friends. Both of their parents didn't mind at all much to the children's surprise.

(END OF FLASH BACK)

"So then what happened?" Mira asked even though she already new the answer.

"She moved along time ago. She always had a good singing voice but was always to nervous to perform for other so her parent decided that she would go to a special school where she could get over her stage fright and become a famous singer. The student at the school got to go for free if they live on the grounds. Her dad got a job at the school and they moved out the same day." Jaden said sadly.

"You sound like you loved her." Mira said with a smile.

"I have tried to move on but every girl I ever went out with either cheated on me or dated me because of my wealth. Mira was the only person I ever truly loved and I still do. She was smart, funny, and had the beauty of an angel with the heart and voice to match. I know she is probably already mated and I know I'm not good enough for her." Jaden said sadly. Mira was glad that Jaden felt that way about her because she felt exactly the same way. Would still date her if you saw her again and she was single? Mira asked.

Of course I would I she would even bother with someone like me. Jaden said. Mira decided to reveal him identity. "So where do you want to go for our first date" she asked

"I already told you that I love Mira." he said. "And I never told you my name." She countered. Jaden thought for a moment and his eyes grew wide with shock and surprise. "Mira is that you he that you?" he asked. The vixen just gave him a loving smile and said "It's been a while Jaden. I've really missed you."
