Just then Pellock came into the lounge. He headed over to the captain and whispered something to him urgently. Harrll looked shocked for a moment then said, "I'm afraid it looks as if none of us are going home at all. Pellock's carried out a damage check to see what caused us to crash-land here and we can't even get into orbit. We were hit by the reactor core of a dead satellite while we were in low earth orbit. It was large enough to rupture our main fuel tank. We had just enough fuel to land, plus a bit more for some low level flight."

"Does that mean you're stuck on this planet as well?" Alec asked.

I'm afraid it's not as simple as that" replied Harrll, sadly. "Standing orders are to destroy the ship, and to insure there is no cultural contamination, we have to kill ourselves as well. You spent eighteen years here without any problems, but you grew up here. We could make mistakes and expose our presence. It's too much of a risk for us to even try to "go native".

"I knew I should never have signed on for a trip with a krelling Snowflake on board" snarled Felln angrily.

One of the other Anthro's, a young female white wolf burst into tears and fled the compartment. Everyone was shocked for a moment.

"That's enough of that kind of language," snarled Harrl. "Go back to your quarters, I'll deal with you later"

Alec wasn't sure what to make of this, he looked curiously back at the Captain.

"Whilst we may be an advanced technical culture, I'm afraid that there are some aspects to our culture that I'm not proud of. Many years ago, somebody with Ferrowl's coloring used to be considered bad luck to have with you on a hunt because her coloring makes it difficult for her to remain concealed from the prey. They would have been left behind in the den to look after the cubs, and were treated as second class citizens. Things have improved, but we still can't completely eradicate the prejudice."

Alec wasn't sure how to react to this, so changed the subject. "If the problem is just lack of fuel, why not try to get some more, then you'll be able to take off again?"

"It's not as simple as that, maybe Gelland, our science officer can explain it better," gesturing to a brindle colored wolf beside him.

"I'll try to keep it as simple as possible, because the technology is way beyond anything this planet can do. Basically, the power for the ship comes from a small artificial star. The fuel is a special type of hydrogen, which we normally harvest from the atmosphere of gas giants. We haven't even got enough fuel left to reach orbit, let alone get all the way to Jupiter."

Smiling when he heard this, Alec thought about some of the things he'd found out when researching his past. "It sounds like you are using something known on Earth as nuclear fusion. If the special type of hydrogen is twice the weight of normal then it's something we call dueterium."

Gelland looked back at him in surprise. "How can you know anything about it? This planet is still using fossil fuels. You shouldn't be able to manage fusion for another couple of hundred years. You need to master control of gravity to make it work!"

"Easy," Alec said. "Scientists on Earth have been trying to get it to work for the last fifty years. They can get the reaction to start, but so far they can't keep up the reaction because of the extreme temperatures and pressures. As for the dueterium, that can be extracted from seawater. The concentration is about one part in three thousand, but the extraction equipment is very large and complicated."

Harrl turned to Gelland hopefully. "Do you think we might be able to get home after all?"

"I've no idea, but it's worth a try. The main problem is that we've got to get to the ocean without being discovered. I should be able to figure out some way of extracting it. On Earth they probably use isotope substitution or electrolysis. That uses a lot of power, but we could use nanite filtration fairly easily."

Harrl nodded in satisfaction. "Get together with Grrelt and Ferrowl and work out a plan to build the extraction equipment, then work out how we can get it down to the sea. You'll have to let them know what to do because they'll be better at blending in. They're the observers, so they've spent years studying this planet."

Now that he was no longer the center of attention, Alec decided to explore the ship a bit. Heading towards the front, he came across the white wolf that had fled the lounge in tears. She was slumped on a couch beside a window, overlooking the trees outside, still crying.

Sitting down beside her, he put a hand on her shoulder to get her attention. "I'm sorry about what Felln said, but I don't think you're unlucky. If your ship hadn't landed here, I would never have found out anything about my parents or where I came from. Besides, I think you look just beautiful, no matter what they say."

She looked up at him shyly. "Nobody has ever said anything like that to me before," bursting into tears again. Alec put his arms around her, she sank into his arms, resting her head against his shoulder, crying softly.

Slowly, his arm around her shoulder, he guided her back towards the lounge, explaining the plan. Gelland was talking with a silver grey female wolf, and gestured them over. "I've been talking to Grrelt about how to get the filter down to the sea, but we're not sure yet how to make sure we're not disturbed while it's working. Alec knows this planet better, what do you think."

"How big is the filter going to be, and how long do we need it to operate for?"

"It's going to end up roughly the size of a small filing cabinet, so we'll need some sort of vehicle to transport it. The collection will be relatively slow because of the concentration levels, it'll take about six hours to collect enough fuel to leave this planet."

Alec had a truck that would be big enough to transport it, but the nearest road was about five miles away. "How heavy is it going to be?"

"It's not too bad, the weight should be somewhere in the region of a hundred pounds. Two people should easily be able to carry it from the ship to the road. I'm more worried about keeping it secret. If someone starts asking questions it could be difficult."

Pausing for thought for a moment, Alec had an idea. "There's a lot of interest in pollution monitoring at the moment. Why don't we pose as University students studying the water for contamination? That way, we can hire a boat and do it in plain sight. If people think they know what we are doing, then there's no reason for them to expect something suspicious. The only problem I can see is being able to afford to hire a boat"

"That's no problem," replied Grellt. These days, we use distant observation to avoid cultural contamination, but before humans began to become interested in science and nature we used to mix among them. Primitive cultures are more accepting of things they don't understand. We can use nanites to build rubies, sapphires and various other precious stones. Rubies and sapphires are the easiest, because they're mainly crystalline aluminium oxides, plus a few impurities. We used to sell jewels for the local currency. I'm sure we can make something in a more modern style."

"That sounds like a good idea. Rather than a jeweller, though, we'd be better off selling it at a pawnbroker. They're less likely to ask difficult questions. There's a few in the nearest city that have a slightly shady reputation, so we shouldn't have any problems. I'll get my truck and meet you by the road. We can load all the gear there. I'll be back in about six hours."

The next day, just as the sun rose above the treetops, Alec was driving along the road towards the ship. Drawing near, he pulled off the road and drove out of sight into the forest. He couldn't get very far because of the undergrowth, but at least his truck couldn't be seen from the road. Before he'd got halfway to the ship he was met by four of the crew, Harrl, Gelland, Grrellt and Ferrowl, carrying a bulky metal box between them. Grrellt and Ferrowll were disguised as humans, but it was easy to tell them apart. Ferrowll was his age, with blond hair, Grrellt was about twenty years older and had dark hair.

"This is the filter, Gelland has explained to Grrellt and Ferrowll how to operate it. We'll put it in your truck, then you're ready to go. Pellock has synthesized some rubies and sapphires, so once you get to the city you should be alright for money," he said, handing Alec a small cloth bag.

"Thanks," said Alec, stowing the bag in a pocket. "It's probably going to take a couple of hours to sell some of them and arrange hire of a boat, but we should be back just before dark."

Bidding farewell, Alec, Grrellt and Ferrowll climbed into the truck and headed into town. "I'm afraid you're names are a bit unusual here on Earth, we'll have to think of some sort of alternative," confided Alec. "Maybe I ought to call you Gerry and Frances, that's probably the closest equivalent to your names. At least if they're close enough, we shouldn't slip up. You'd better let me do most of the talking. We can say that Ferrowll and me are students, and that Grrellt is one of the lecturers. When we go to the pawn shop, you stay in the truck and I'll deal with that."

Arriving in town, Alec found somewhere to park and headed for the nearest pawnbroker. Just as expected, the guy in the shop wasn't too fussy about where the stones had come from. He was probably ripped off on the price offered, but what the hell, if they were so easy to make then he could always get some more. Going back to the truck, they headed down to the harbour, looking for a boat to rent.

It didn't take too long, it's amazing how easy things are when you offer some money. They couldn't be too generous though, they were posing as students after all. Luckily it was a bad time for fishing so there were plenty of people willing to hire out a boat for the day. Taking one end of the box, Grrellt and Ferrowll grabbed the other end and they carried it down to the boat, loaded up and headed out of the harbour. Cruising down the coast a couple of miles, they came to a fairly quiet spot, so they anchored in the middle of a bay where they wouldn't be disturbed. Lowering a couple of hoses over the side of the boat, they hooked them up to the filter and started the pump. Nothing to do now for another six hours except kill time. Grrellt went down below deck for a nap while Alec decided it was time to get to know Ferrowll better.

"So what do you think of Earth, now you've spent some time on it instead of being cooped up in a spaceship stuck in orbit?"

Ferrowll smiled up at him lazily. "It's good to stretch your legs for a change. I get fed up of breathing canned air and talking to the same people. This is my first trip off-planet. Grrellt is an older cousin. She helped me get this job, which is good because it got me away from my home planet and all the prejudice. It's very hard growing up as a white wolf. Everyone looks down on you and treats you like something to be avoided. They're afraid of your bad luck rubbing off on them. Okay, the standard of living on my world may be a lot higher than here, but at least nobody looks down his or her nose at you. I wasn't expecting us to land on Earth, what with the risk of detection but I'm very glad we did."

"Well, I don't care what people on your world think. I didn't grow up with their prejudices. As far as I'm concerned I like you, and I don't care what anyone else says."

Ferrowll reached up to him, pulling him down into a hug. "I'm happy to be here as well. I like you too."

Alec jumped back guiltily, disturbed by Grrellt coming up from the cabin. "Don't worry about me," she said. "Anyone who can put a smile on my cousin's face is alright with me. It's nice to see her happy for a change." With that, she headed back below deck, leaving them alone again.

"Do you really like me?" Asked Alec, surprised.

"You're the nicest person I've ever met, and the first in a long time to treat me as a normal person. Plus, if this plan works you've saved the lives of everyone on the ship. If we were unable to repair it, we'd have to destroy both it and ourselves. We can never thank you enough. Mind you, being cute also helps," she added with a cheeky grin.

He turned red with embarrassment, not sure what to make of it. She smiled and pulled him down into her arms, kissing him tenderly, her tongue probing his lips, seeking admission. Willingly, he parted his lips, her tongue darting inside, caressing his teeth, tangling with his own tongue as the tip of his own probed back, caressing her lips, stroking her teeth, exploring her mouth. Drawing back for a moment, he scattered some cushions over the deck. Reaching down, he grasped the base of her shirt, lifting it slowly over her head, revealing her proud naked breasts. She lowered her hands, hooking her thumbs in the top of her skirt, sliding it over her hips and dropping to the ground.

Fumbling with his belt, she undid his trousers, sliding them down, his manhood standing proud and ready. With a sly smile, she licked at the tip, causing him to shiver in anticipation. Drawing it into her mouth, tongue caressing its length, she moved her head up and down. Alec gasped with pleasure, sinking his hands into her hair, stroking her head gently with pleasure. Releasing his member, she sank back onto the cushions, pulling him with her. He kissed her neck, slowly moving down, kissing her breasts, her nipples springing up as his tongue stroked across them, causing her to catch her breath. Continuing down, he kissed her belly and thighs, moving back up to her nether regions, kissing and licking her outer lips, circling her nub with his tongue, teasing her, her hips moving up to meet his tongue as he thrust it into her depths. Her vagina began to squeeze on his tongue, spasming with her pleasure as he continued to lick, deep inside, nibbling at the edge of her lips, causing her to moan in pleasure as he caressed her breasts.

Drawing his head back, she gave a slight moan of disappointment. He lowered himself onto her, taking the weight on his arms, his member searching for its target. Feeling her warmth, he slowly bore down on her, thrusting into her warm embrace, his animal instinct taking over releasing the wolf within. As he began to thrust, deeper inside, his body began to change, fur sprouting along his arms and legs, covering his body. His face began to stretch out, forming a muzzle, his member, buried deep inside her beginning to change as well, swelling larger and a bulge beginning to form near the base, dragging across her entrance with each stroke and massaging her clit, making her shudder with pleasure each time. She wrapped her arms and legs about him, her heels dragging at his hindquarters, pulling him deeper inside with each stroke.

As he continued to swell, she stretched back her head, offering him her throat in surrender. Grasping her throat in his muzzle, gripping her firmly enough with his teeth for her to feel it, but not hard enough to draw blood. He thrust one more time, sinking his knot deep inside before it swelled, tying him deep within. He had claimed her now as his mate, his knot firmly capturing her beyond any hope of escape, not that she wanted to. She had offered herself to him freely, accepting him as her mate in a union as old as time.

He continued to thrust, trapped by his knot, no longer able to make long strokes, concentrating on burying his knot deeper. Each thrust rubbing against that magic spot inside her, sending her into one long rolling orgasm after another, seeking his own release, her vagina clenching about his member and knot, squeezing down on him with each thrust and shudder of her body. Finally, he released his seed, firing it deep inside her, trapped by his knot and filling her insides, its warmth causing her biggest orgasm yet, both of them collapsing, sated and exhausted on the deck.

He licked her cheek tenderly with his wolf like tongue, growling a deep rumble of contentment, her arms wrapped around him, holding him close, enjoying each other's company, his knot still buried deep within holding them together. She stroked his back and shoulders, smiling with satisfaction. "I am yours, my darling, now and forever. I've never made love in human form before, and I must admit that it does have its advantages, but when you transformed I realised that I love you more than I could ever imagine. Promise me that you will have me forever."

Looking down, he nodded eagerly, unable to speak in his current form, overcome with joy. Two months ago, he had been an orphan, never knowing true love, or where he came from. Now he had new friends, a new life and a new love. Once they had got back to the ship with the fuel, they could embrace a new life together.
