Nether Encyclopaedia: The Hive

Story by Arkham_Beast on SoFurry

, , , , , , ,

The third genera of the Netherbeasts. They are something for me and my fellow insect fans.

I noticed that they don't have much stage time among the anthropomorphic community, but they still have some fans.

Only one more Netherbeastian specie left.

Hope you enjoy this, and once again: if you have any questions regarding them or the others or even about my stories, feel free to post your questions in the comments or PM me directly.

Thank you.

Crafty hunters, powerful protectors and great builders.

Traditions:-

The Hive have no exclusive events, but they have a yearly tradition of going to the other Netherbeastian realms bearing gifts, it's more like a peace offering if nothing else.

The Hive were once members of another group of Netherbeastians who were hell-bent on taking over the Netherworld.

Their efforts were thwarted by the current rulers of the realm forcing them and their collaborators to exile.

However, the Hive came back in hopes of rejoining the current species, luckily for them the Overlord at the time was honorable and forgiving, but that still didn't mean that all was forgiven.

Appearance:-

The Hive are just as their name suggests, are anthropomorphic insects in appearance, with a few rare cases of taurs.

However the Hive have the ability to mate and sire children from any species, be them mortals, Netherbeasts or even primal creatures (if those individuals were into it) giving them the characteristics of the other species.

For example if they mated with a furred creature, the children have a chance to be born with fur in some parts of their bodies, but the insect appearance is still the dominant genes.

Their legs are either digitigrades or plantigrades.

Species:-

Thread Spinners:-

Silent hunters and expert trappers.

Appearance:-

The Spinners are mostly spider-like in appearance, but some resemble caterpillars or other thread making insects and bugs.

The usual insect appearance is the multiple limbs, with the spider like appendages on the sides of the mouth, which opens in three different directions.

Their bodies are all buff and every limb holds more strength than their bodies show, some even have a few hairy places on their bodies like the chest area, some even call them Husk Daddies as some sort of joke, but the Spinners take some pride in the name, even more when it stuck.

Clothes:-

The Spinners usually make their own clothing from scratch, knitting some molten skin into various designs.

They don't wear any tops most of the time, but they wear short cloaks covering all around the upper body, that reach just below the chest.

Their pants however are mostly shorts in design.

Traditions:-

The Spinners have no exclusive tradition.

During the mating season, the Spinners use their knitting expertise to make a beautiful piece of clothing, be it pants, cloaks or even some kind of underwear, which is a popular stunt among the more adventurous romancers.

Venom Hunters:-

Villainous alchemists and siphoners of all kinds of poisons and toxins.

Appearance:-

Most are either centipede or scorpion-like in appearance, the centipedes being one of the taur species of the Hive.

Their mouths open in three directions like all Hive species, with each 'jaw' holding a row of sharp fangs, their venom being held small glands hidden right under their fangs inside their gums.

The venomous teeth is something all Hunters have, but some have other methods of venomous strikes, like scorpion tails or their claws for the centipedes.

They can control the flow of the venom they produce making it coat whatever the want to strike with.

The scorpions have two pairs of normal strong arms with one bigger pair of pincer arms coming out of their backs, a few inches above their ordinary pairs.

Clothing:-

The Hunters prefer to wear nothing at all, but only wear waist cloaks on occasions.

Traditions:-

The Venom Hunters all tend to gather together, in a secluded area in their realm and share a few hunting tips and advice, as well as the more efficient kind of food or herbs in order to increase the power of their venom.

The centipede hunters can't reproduce their venom naturally so they have to either eat a certain kind of prey or poisonous herbs they find to allow their venom cells to replicate the power and properties of that herb.

Like if they eat a plant with paralyzing venom, the venom they themselves will produce will have paralyzing effects.

*****************************

Carriers:-

The only species of the Hive who can mate with or reproduce children from other species.

They are all taur in appearance, with long lower bodies to allow them to carry many eggs at a time. Just like a red ant queen.

Their upper bodies vary between chubby to baby fat, but still have two pairs of strong arms, as well as thick, strong but malleable skin on their lower bodies to protect the eggs they carry.

Clothing:-

They prefer to wear wide thin clothing to allow freedom of movement in their upper bodies.

The wear nothing for their lower bodies.

Tradition:-

They have no exclusive tradition, but the Carriers sometimes act as babysitters for the children and eggs of the other Hive.

Moon Husks:-

Majestic hypnotizers and royal mesmers.

Appearance:-

They resemble moths or butterflies.

Their wings are large and when they are not open, the flow around like capes.

Some have antenna like ears with small tufts of fur on the tips, as well as some fur under their necks and around their chests and backs.

They only have two pairs of arms and plantigrade legs.

Their wings can release spore sized scales that can hypnotize others on contact for the moths, while the butterflies use the same size scales to create a colorful light effect with the same hypnotic effect.

Clothing:-

They prefer wearing upper body accessories, like pendants, necklaces, wrist braces and rings, while some like to wear piercings on their upper bodies.

Other on rare occasions like to wear piercing with musical bells like chimes, to add to their hypnotic effects, but they can't fly for a while until their wings heal.

Traditions:-

The Husks have no exclusive tradition, but sometimes help the Carriers in their babysitter jobs.

Amphobians:-

The only specie capable of living under water.

They are a hybrid specie between the Hive and the Deep Ones.

Appearance:-

They resemble hybrids between amphibian creatures and insects.

Some have webbed limbs with digitigrade legs.

Clothing:-

They don't wear any kind of cloths whatsoever, that's why they don't join any kind of otherworldly occasion, but if it was for a member of the Hive, then they join.

Traditions:-

They don't have an exclusive tradition.

During mating season the potential mates do some kind of swimming dance underwater.

Slimes:-

Living liquids capable of changing their shape at will, but for some reason unable to change their gender, not like anyone can tell.

Appearance:-

The Slimes can change their appearance at will, but their original shape is that of anthropomorphic snails and slugs.

They have actual skin instead of scales or exoskeleton.

They came in various different colors and during rare occurrences some grow patterns on their skin.

They got their name not by being actual living liquids, but from the ability to change into such, as well as the ability to release sticky or slippery substances from their bodies that when used in the right time can help.

Clothing:-

They prefer not to wear anything, not like they can due to their bodily created liquids coming out of their bodies when they don't notice and ruin anything they wear at the time.

Traditions:-

The Slimes have no exclusive traditions.

During mating season they 'dominants' change their shapes and stand around in an area, while the 'submissives' look around at them. Something like an art exibit if you like.

Heavy Hides (or Heavies):-

The bruisers, heavy lifters and musclemen of the Hives.

Appearance:-

They resemble the powerhouse insects like Hercules beetles, titan beetles and rhinoceros beetles.

Some have plantigrade legs while others have digitigrades.

They have the usual beetle wing cap, that acts like a shield when needed.

Clothing:-

The only wear lower body clothing like pants, waist cloaks or loincloths.

Traditions:-

The Heavies hold frequent power testing tournaments, just like the Voidwalker Violences to crown the most powerful Heavy.

During mating season, they release an exclusive scented pheromone in order to attract a mate or as much as mate options as possible, but when two Heavies set their eyes on a single potential mate they let them choose, but if they can't the two Heavies settle it with a power duel and the most powerful one of them is chosen.

The Buzzers:-

They are split into three factions: the Scout Hovers, the Stingwings, and the Air Cutters.

They are the fastest flyers among the Hive.

Appearance:-

They Scouts mostly resemble flies with digitigrade legs, the Stingwings are bees and wasps with some having digitigrades and others plantigrades, and the Air Cutters are mostly cockroaches with plantigrade legs.

All vary between slim to buff in body size and shape.

Clothing:-

Like most Hive, they prefer to wear only lower body clothing, mostly because any kind of upper clothing will hinder their wing activity.

Traditions:-

Like the Heavies who hold strength tournaments, the Buzzers hold flying tournaments, consisting of stunt challenges, timed racing, acrobatic flying. The tournament is held for a whole month and for the final challenge: a traditional speed racing the track goes around the whole realm, and the winner will be crowned the fastest flyer around. The tournament is a yearly event.

During mating season they potential mates who choose each, like the Amphobians do some sort of dance mid flight. Some 'dominants' instead of the dance perform some flying moves in order to gather a number of 'choices', the more impressive the moves the more they might gather.
