Raymond woke up from falling asleep about four hours later. He walked downstairs and saw Carol crying on the couch, watching the news. He listened to what the news reporter was saying and was horrified.
"A shooting outside the local clothing store left this 14 year old dragon, Gideon Rentis, identified by the school I.D. in his wallet, severely injured. Authorities do not know who the shooter was, they are just thankful that a visiting citizen from Missouri happened to be walking by the alley at the time."
The camera switched to a view of a middle aged wolf that was named Dennis Tenites, "I heard grunts of pain coming from the alley and I looked in and saw the kid forced onto his knees with a gun held to his head. I think me shouting for help probably saved his life. If I hadn't the shooter would have shot him in the head."
The camera switched back to the reporter. "The only bullet wound that was reported was to Gideon's right shoulder, narrowly missing the major blood vessels. He has been admitted to Alton Memorial Hospital and will have special visiting hours in about two hours time."
The news switched to the weather and Raymond slowly walked over to the couch and collapsed next to Carol. He started to cry and Carol called Clarice downstairs. "What is it mom?" Clarice asked, looking worried.
"Your b-b-brother is in the h-h-hospital. H-h-he was shot in the arm and nearly b-b-beaten to death." Carol replied, barely able to say the sentence with how badly her voice was breaking. "Be ready to leave in two hours. That's when visiting hours are." The last part couldn't be understood because of how bad she was crying.
Clarice stared, hoping it was a joke. "Please tell me your kidding?" she said. When her mom shook her head she dropped onto the couch to comfort the crying Raymond.
"He will be ok." she told him. "He has to be." she muttered under her breath.
She went up stairs to call Terrence. "Honey, I can't go to dinner tonight."
"What?" Terrence asked, "Why?"
"My brother is in the hospital. I have to go see him."
"Forget him, you can still go to dinner." Terrence asked, annoyed that something else her brother did stopped them from having time together.
Clarice was shocked at the words. "He has a bullet wound to the shoulder. I'm going to see him." She told him, getting slightly angry.
"Who gives a shit about that little bitch." Terrence said, growling slightly. "Your coming to dinner and that's final."
Clarice just stared at the phone, not believing a word that she was hearing. "Terrence," she said calmly, "it's over." she hung up the phone and went downstairs. Raymond and Carol were still crying.
"Come on guys, he will be okay." Clarice said, before joining in with the sorrow they were feeling. It was like that for two hours. Clarice noticed the time and said, "OK Guys, its visiting hours. Let's go."
They all rushed to the car, Clarice driving since she was the only one that wasn't crying. Clarice remembered Malissa and pulled out her cell phone. The phone rang three times before Craig picked up. "Hello?" he asked when he answered.
"Craig? You and Malissa need to get to the hospital right away." she told him.
"Why?" he asked, starting to sound worried.
"G-g-gideon got shot in the shoulder and was nearly beaten to death." Clarice almost broke down in tears telling him what happened.
"Oh my god." was all Craig could say. "We'll be there." he almost hung up before adding, "Fast."
And when Craig said fast, he meant fast. Craig and Malissa were in the room before they got there. Malissa was sitting in a chair crying. A doctor came in to tell them how Gideon was doing.
"He's in a coma." the doctor said, plain and simple. "He lost to much blood, we got the bullet out and stopped the bleeding. He's going to need a blood transfusion, that much we know."
Raymond was looking at the floor, tears in his eyes. He didn't want to look at the doctor, a person who could say these words so calmly, like absolutely nothing had happened to Gideon. He wanted to rip the man's arms out, but not just for that reason.
Raymond looked up and gasped. "Dad?"
Raymond's father just looked at him, his eyes watering instantly. "T-this is your boyfriend?" his father asked him.
Raymond was shocked that his father had even talked to him. Dumbfounded, all he could do was nod. His dad just nodded and asked, "Can I talk to you Raymond? Please?"
"O-ok." Raymond stuttered, getting more shocked by the moment. He followed his dad out of the room and into a nearby office. The first thing his dad did was hug him. Raymond noticed his mom was there.
"We are so sorry for the way we acted." Raymond's father told him. "Please come home."
His mother came over to hug him and noticed she was crying. He hugged her back, tried to comfort her. "Ok, I will." His mother and father both hugged him, they were both crying. "Can I go back to Gideon's room now?"
His father just nodded, happy that his son was going to come home and angry at himself for treating his son like that in the first place. Raymond walked back to Gideon's room, slightly happy and angry at himself for being happy when he should be sad. His boyfriend was in a coma.
He walked back into Gideon's room and walked over to a chair that was pulled up next to the bed, ignoring the rest of Gideon's family he reached out and hugged the Gideon's unconscious form. He heard two gasps and looked around. He saw Craig and Malissa and remembered that they didn't know about him and Gideon yet.
He blushed slightly before hanging his head in between his shoulders, embarrassed that he had forgotten that Malissa and Craig hadn't been told. He heard Craig whisper to Gideon's mother. "Why did he just hug Gideon?"
"It's not exactly the best time to tell you, but Raymond is Gideon's boyfriend." Craig looked shocked, he hadn't been expecting that someone like Gideon would turn out gay.
Malissa just nodded her head and said, "I should've known."
Raymond just went back to hugging Gideon's unconscious form. Raymond sat there, hugging Gideon, until a nurse came in and told them visiting hours were over. Raymond bent down and planted a kiss on his boyfriend's lips, mostly so that the word would spread among the nurses that the cute dragon in this room was gay.
The word would spread through the nurses and reach the interns. The word would spread through the interns and Gideon wouldn't have the same problem Raymond had when he woke up. ‘If he wakes up' Raymond thought to himself. He hit himself on the head. ‘He has to wake up, he has to.'
Raymond saw his dad and said, "Hey Carol. Hold on a second." Raymond walked over to his dad and said, "I'll move back home when Gideon comes out of his coma." Raymond's father just nodded and continued working.
Raymond walked back over to Carol who was standing patiently, her eyes red and puffy from crying. "What was that about?" she asked him.
"My parents asked me to come home." Raymond said, feeling kinda happy again. "I told him I would move back once Gideon came out of his coma"
Carol just hugged him and said, "That's great." she smiled at him and Raymond saw Malissa and Craig talking. Raymond hadn't noticed before but Malissa was a very beautiful green dragon, like most dragons she had yellow eyes and black hair. The light glistened off her scales. What was odd was that Craig was a fox, his fur burnt orange. He had green eyes and his tail was tipped in white.
Raymond asked, "Hey Carol, how did Malissa and Craig have a child?"
Carol almost laughed at the confused look on his face. "They don't know. Nobody does. Somehow Malissa got pregnant." Raymond was about to say something and Carol quickly added, "It's his child, they did DNA tests and everything."
Raymond just looked even more confused and he noticed Clarice wasn't there. "Where's Clarice?"
"She's in the car." Carol said and at that moment Clarice walked in and said, "Can we go now? I hate hospitals."
Raymond and Carol just laughed as they walked out the door. They got into the already started car and Clarice took them home. Raymond was almost crying again and decided he was just going to go back to bed. He said good night to Carol and Clarice, Mr. Restin wasn't home yet, and walked to Gideon's room.
Being alone when he was falling asleep made that cold spot in his heart come back and he fell into a deep sleep, that gave him no rest. He was thrashing all night long with nightmares. Gideon always wound up dead at the end of them and he woke up crying.
Clarice heard him from the other room and came to check on him. She sat down on the edge of the bed and leaned down to pick him up into a sitting position. "Shhhh, he's going to be alright, he's going to be alright." she kept saying that over and over until Raymond, happy at feeling warm again, slowly drifted off into a dreamless sleep.
Clarice carefully laid him back down, and looked at him. She smiled at how cute he was sleeping. He kinda looked like a child and Clarice realized with a sinking feeling that he was. 14 years old was not an age to be dealing with stress like this. She looked back at him sadly before hearing a knock at the door.
She looked at the clock and noticed it was Eleven o'clock. It may be Friday but no one had ever come over that late at night. She went downstairs and opened the door to see Malissa, child standing next to her holding her hand, crying. "Malissa?" Clarice asked. "What are you doing here?"
"Craig kicked me out." Malissa told her. "We were arguing about Gideon being gay, he didn't want to have him mentioned in the house anymore and I started yelling at him. He got angry at me and he kicked me out."
Clarice just said, "Oh my god." She looked down at her niece, Madison, a green dragon like her mother but with green eyes like her father. "Madison, do you want some milk?"
"Yes please, Aunt Crece." the little girl told her, mis pronouncing Clarice's name since she was still to young to pronounce it right. Clarice just smiled and led them to the kitchen. She poured a glass of milk for Madison and said, "Here ya go sweety." She looked back at Malissa and asked, "Do you want anything?"
"Do you have pepsi?" Malissa asked, managing to stop herself from stuttering, afraid to show any signs of weakness.
Clarice reached into the fridge and pulled out a can of pepsi. "I'm going to go wake up mom."
She walked upstairs and opened mom's door, their father had been on a business trip luckily. "Mom," Clarice said, "Mom wake up."
"Huh? What?" Carol said, slightly annoyed that she had been woken up. "What is it?"
"Malissa is downstairs. Craig kicked her out." At this Carol jumped up and yelled "WHAT!"
"Mom, SHHHH, I just helped Raymond fall asleep. Let him sleep." Carol instantly stopped yelling and walked downstairs to the kitchen.
"Why did Craig kick you out?" Carol asked her. Malissa told her the story and Carol just grew more and more pissed, "Tomorrow, we are going over there and getting your stuff. You and Madison can move back in here."
Malissa just nodded. "Can we stay in the guest room tonight?"
"Yes, of course." Carol said.
"Just be quiet, Raymond is sleeping." Clarice said.
Malissa looked puzzled. "Why is Raymond here?"
"His parents kicked him out." Clarice said. "You look tired, go get some sleep."
Malissa walked up to the guest room with Madison in her arms. She put Madison on the bed next to her and they instantly fell asleep. Clarice and Carol went back to their rooms and fell asleep.

Gideon didn't like this place. It was cold and dark, like the feeling he had had in his heart before he had met Raymond. He was drifting, he knew that much. It was like a black hole, he heard wind howling in his ears. He felt the chill seeping into his bones.
He remembered a while ago the darkness had faded into light and he had been sitting in a clearing with Raymond. They had been hugging. It had been like that for a while before Raymond kissed him on the lips and walked away. Gideon had felt a strong desire to stand up and follow him but couldn't move. He had tried to move a finger but all he felt was a burning sensation shoot through his body.
The darkness had come back shortly after and had instantly chilled him to the bone. He just floated there, hoping that this would end soon. He didn't like it.

Raymond's father met the gangster in the alley. "Here's your money, just don't tell anyone."
"Killing that Gideon punk was easy. If that man hadn't seen us he would be fully dead." the gangster said, counting his money.
"I'll make sure he doesn't wake up." Raymond's father said.
"Whatever, I did what I was supposed to do." the gangster said, "Bye Mr, uhhh." the gangster realized he had never been told a name.
"Mr. Zasturfinztin" Raymond's father said as he walked away. The "gangster" smirked and walked down the block to the police car that was waiting for him.
"I can't believe that idiot really believed I was the one he hired." the man said. He gave the cops the tape recorder. "You better hurry to the hospital. He said he was gonna kill that kid." the cops looked at each other and rushed to the hospital.
After the police were gone Xatrin pulled off the wig and said, "The stuff I do for Gideon." He threw the wig into a trash can and walked home, whistling to himself softly, happy that he had just helped his friend out.

Raymond woke up to somebody shaking him. He sat up and said, "What's goin on?"
"Your father was arrested last night." Carol told him.
This caused him to sit full upright. "What!?" he exclaimed. "Why?"
"He hired the person to shoot Gideon and then said that he was going to make sure Gideon didn't wake up." Carol said, looking at the hint of anger on his face she added, "Your mother had nothing to do with it and still wants you to go home."
Raymond just nodded and said, "Ok, I will. Just not right now."
Carol was about to say something but the phone rang. Carol picked it up and listened for a minute before handing the phone to Raymond. "Gideon's friends want to talk to you."
Raymond looked puzzled but took the phone. He was instantly bombarded with questions. He answered all of them with three words and a letter. "He's in a coma." There was silence on the phone for a minute.
"How?" Dean asked, he could barely recognize their voices but he knew it was paul.
"He got shot in the shoulder. He went into the coma because of blood loss."
"You want to tag along with us to go see him?" he heard Xatrin say.
"Sure." was all Raymond could say before they all hung up. Gideon's friends were obviously the type of people to hang up without saying bye.
Raymond barely had time to get dressed before there was a knock on the door and Carol opened it to show that Dean, Xatrin, Paulie, Trevor, and Kevin were already there. Raymond ran down the stairs, skipping steps and jumping down the last three. "Be back later Carol, we're going to see Gideon." she just nodded.
They all got into Dean's truck. There was an awkward silence. Raymond hadn't hung out with them much and didn't say anything. They quickly got to the hospital considering how short of a drive it was. Raymond tripped getting out, he was in a hurry to flee the awkward silence that the van ensued.
They all laughed and Xatrin said, "Clumsy much?"
Raymond just blushed and was grateful that the silence had been broken, even if it was because he nearly broke his neck tripping out of a van. "Hehe, I've been nervous lately."
"No one can blame you," Kevin said, "you have a boyfriend that's in a coma, and your dad was the one who tried to kill him. Anybody would be." Kevin smiled at him and patted him on the back.
Raymond was almost in tears about being reminded about the situation and asked, "Can we just drop it? Please?"
Kevin looked at Raymond's face and suddenly felt guilty, "Sorry man, we can drop it." Kevin smiled again and Raymond still felt sad, but happy that Kevin understood. "Let's just go see Gideon."
Raymond just nodded his head and walked inside, faster than the others considering he was more eager to see Gideon. He walked in and asked the clerk which room he was in- just in case he got moved- and turns out he did.
"He's in room 087. He woke up in the middle of the night screaming." At this Raymond was alarmed and started running through the halls, almost tripping a few nurses. He got to the room and walked in to see Gideon sleeping peacefully. There was a doctor in checking the heart and brain rate monitors.
The doctor looked up when Raymond came in. He smiled and looked back at his papers. "I'm guessing your Raymond." he said without looking up.
Raymond looked puzzled and said, "How did you know?"
"This young man has told me all about you." The doctor said.
Raymond looked alarmed and the doctor added, "Not EVERYTHING. He has told me that you were his boyfriend, however."
Raymond looked a little relieved at this. "Can you not tell his dad? He doesn't know yet."
The doctor smiled again, "I already promised."
Raymond was fully relieved after this and the rest of the gang burst in asking questions. "How is he?" was the main one.
"Whoa whoa! Settle down. He's doing fine, he just needs rest now. The bullet is out safely, and the blood transfusions were successful." the doctor said, sounding proud that his staff could do all of this to one person in one night.
"How long does he have to stay here?" Raymond asked eagerly. The doctor was hesitant to answer.
"It depends on if he is still delusional when he wakes up again." The doctor said, biting his lips. "The trauma gave him extreme nightmares." the doctor looked at the brain wave monitor. "Looks like he's coming to now."
Gideon started thrashing and Raymond quickly went over to him. Raymond put his arms around Gideon and he stopped thrashing around and returned the hug. His body calmed down and the brain wave monitor stopped going haywire. Gideon's eyes opened slowly and he started muttering incoherently.
When his eyes were fully opened he sat up and looked around. "W-where am I?" he muttered groggily.
"Your in the hospital hun." Raymond told him, trying to force him back onto the bed.
"Why?" Gideon muttered again, getting less groggy the longer he was up.
"You got shot in the shoulder and you went into a coma from blood loss." Raymond was about to say more but it all came back to Gideon and his hand shot up to his shoulder. He felt around where the scar was and groaned.
"I hope this pain stops soon, there are games for basketball that are coming up." Gideon said.
"Don't worry, take pain pills and you will be good." The doctor smiled and said, "Well, since Raymond here is obviously the cure for your delusions, so you're free to go."
Gideon just now noticed the doctor and his friends and blushed, "Hey guys. Didn't see ya there."
"Ya, we figured." Paulie giggled quietly. "So, before you and Raymond start doing anything more than hugging how about we get out of here?"
"Good idea." Dean and Kevin said at the same time, causing embarrassed looks between them and a roar of laughter from everyone except Gideon who tried but just ended up groaning because of the pain.
"Ok, don't make me laugh. I just want to go home and sleep some of this pain off." Gideon groaned again.
"Alright, let's go." Raymond said, helping Gideon out of the chair. He helped Gideon put his clothes on(Gideon was still to groggy from pain medicine and kept missing the pant leg.)and helped him walk to the van.
"Uhh, guys." Kevin said, "My van won't fit all of us."
"That's alright," Raymond told him, "Gideon will sit on my lap." Raymond snickered evilly and Gideon blushed. "Besides, I'm afraid he's gonna fall out of the seat once he unbuckles his seat belt."
"Ugh, fine. I just want to get home." Gideon said. They all got into the van and buckled up, Raymond and Gideon a little awkwardly because they had to share a seat and Gideon was bigger than Raymond was.
With Gideon there was talk going back and forth and Raymond didn't feel as awkward. He felt comfortable with Gideon there. He never realized the way Gideon made him feel before. Gideon made him feel warm and tingly, like he was floating on a cloud of warm air and moisture was slowly falling on his skin and dripping off.
The feeling was pleasant and he knew it instantly to be love. He had told Gideon he loved him but he never actually knew if he did until now. He remembered the offer his mother had given him and he told Gideon that once they got home he needed to talk to him.
They got there shortly, Raymond had trouble getting Gideon out of the van. They walked awkwardly to the door, Raymond being aware of every crack or pebble in Gideon's path. At the moment anything could be deadly to him.
"What did you need to tell me?" Gideon asked. He was slightly worried that Raymond was going to break up with him.
"Oh, ya. My mom asked me to come home, she said that she was sorry." Raymond told her.
"Your mom? What about your dad?" Gideon asked, completely ignorant of the situation.
"My dad is in prison. He hired that gangster to kill you." Raymond said, tearing up slightly. He could feel his soul starting to rip inside of him. He had loved his father and couldn't believe that he could do something like that to anyone he loved.
"You don't have to go home right away do you?" Gideon asked.
"Not right away, but soon." Raymond answered.
"Could you stay over one more night?" Gideon asked him. "Be with me in a time of need."
"Of course hun," Raymond said, "I would go to the ends of the earth and back again for you."
They walked up to Gideon's room, even more awkward going up the stairs, and Gideon plopped onto his bed, groaning in pain because he hit his shoulder, and crawled under the covers. Raymond crawled under next to him and hugged Gideon.
"I love you." Gideon whispered before falling into a deep sleep.
"I love you too." Raymond whispered to Gideon's sleeping form. Raymond was just happy that Gideon's dad was on a business trip, otherwise he would have to sleep on the futon. Raymond just lie there, thinking about his relationship.
He was happy he would be going home, but he would miss Gideon's warm body next to him every night. He fell asleep with the idea of eternal happiness in his head.

My longest chapter yet. Can't believe I actually got this far even if I'm not exactly the best writer.
