#3 of More Than A War

Sorry for the delay! Life is picking back up again, leaving me with little time for luxuries. :/ I will continue working on this, but it will take some time. Thanks to everyone for their support! Much love <3

"Father!" Raevocrei ran to his wounded father, looking for a hopeful light in the darkness. He lay there bleeding and motionless. Ahkaeirvah stood at her mate's side with a haunted gaze, frozen. "Go get Mother!" he instructed to her. She blinked and looked blankly at him. "Tell her what's happened. She will know what to do." Ahkaeirvah hesitantly nodded and left without question. "Father!" he shouted again.

Raevocrei trembled, shaking uncontrollably. His pounding heart raced inside his chest. Every forceful pulse sent his fear alight. Nothing like this had ever happened to him. He thought of Ahkaeirvah's parents and felt terribly fretful. What if his father died here and now? What would he do? He fought away tears and held his father close, sniffling against his still chest. A faint pulse tapped against him.

"Father..."

His father groaned, opening his golden eyes. He looked at his son, painfully wincing, and struggled to say, "There is... an-... other."

A light-blue scaled female fell from the sky and landed lightly next to them. A silvery, feathery mane flowed behind her head like Ahkaeirvah's, and tufts of feathers clung to her legs behind her joints. She strutted before him with a haughty swagger, eyeing him with steely eyes. "You're his son, I take it?" She asked teasingly. Her voice had a thick accent similar to Ahkaeirvah's. Raevocrei looked at the corpses of the slain dragons and realized that they were all Northern dragons. They had fur and feathers protruding from their scaled bodies unlike dragons below the border.

"Why are you here?" Raevocrei stood up, bravely standing his ground. He stood between her and his father protectively. "Why did you attack him!?" he growled, baring his teeth threateningly.

"The resemblance is striking... there's no doubt that you're his son. Shame that you had to fly into this situation..." Her icy glare pierced Raevocrei, undermining his confidence. Her eyes were pure-white like the snow, shining like a light in the darkness.

"Answer me!" he growled. He entered a fighting stance, ready to tear her to shreds. She tried to kill his father; that was more than enough of a reason to fight, and more than enough reason to kill--blood for blood.

"You're picking the wrong fight, youngling. Let me finish him, and you can walk away unharmed. If you decide to be as foolish as he was, then you die with him." Fear gripped Raevocrei with icy claws. The extraordinary presence she carried was enough to chill him to the bones. It swayed him. He wished to leave and to never return, to fly quickly away from her.

"No!" he shouted at the top of his lungs. He shook his head, growling. What am I thinking!? With a vicious snarl, he met the dragoness' cold gaze. His blood boiled with rage.

The dragoness smirked. "Then die!" she hissed and quickly lunged at him. She was just as fast as Ahkaeirvah, if not faster. He barely dodged her attack as he dashed to the side. Her claws glanced off of his black scales. She landed and spun around, swiftly lunging at him again. Raevocrei saw her mistake: she jumped too high. He crouched down and moved forward in one fluid step, aiming to strike at her underbelly while she was over him. As he jumped to attack her, the dragoness flared her wings and powerfully flapped them once in a smooth, quick motion, dodging his attack in an unbelievable reaction time.

She flipped around and landed gracefully behind him as he was still in the air falling. Before he could react, she tackled him from behind, growling savagely as she brought him down. Raevocrei landed heavily with his head swirling, and she quickly pinned him by the wings. Out of instinct, he thrust his hind-legs into her belly the first chance he had. He successfully threw her off, but pain shot through his wings. His thin wing membranes were torn by her razor-sharp claws.

Before she had the opportunity to attack unexpectedly again, Raevocrei stood up. Blood dripped from his wings, but he tried to ignore it. Pain shot through his limbs with every small movement. They stood at the edge of the clearing next to the forest. The dragoness wore an arrogant grin. "I'll admit that you're a better fighter than the whelps I've faced before, but the outcome still won't change."

"Why do you fight?" Raevocrei asked between ragged gasps.

A wicked smile curled at her lips. "It is my entertainment." Suddenly, she did a series of dashes from left to right as she charged him from several yards away. Raevocrei watched her, crouched low for a quick response, and waited for the precise moment to defend himself. She was too fast for him to blast her with flames, so he had to use his claws and teeth. She pushed off, flinging herself into the air above him again. The fact that she was trying to pull the same move only angered him. Instead of jumping at her, he whirled around expecting to meet her there. He now faced the large trunk of a tree. Bewildered, he watched in disbelief as she twisted her body gracefully around, landed on the tree, and pushed off again. She dashed to another tree on Raevocrei's right side with the utmost elegance. Her body was a blur as she briefly touched the other tree before rushing at him while his side defenselessly faced her. The dragoness was too fast.

Her light-blue scaled body slammed powerfully into Raevocrei, completely knocking the wind out of him as he fell to his side and skidded across the ground. She followed him, immediately pinning him the first chance she had. A hind-paw stepped on his neck and her talons gripped him, piercing his hide with her sharp claws. Blood seeped down his neck as she stood smugly over him with her foot holding him down. Raevocrei struggled and thrashed beneath her, but he could hardly move, and her grip only painfully tightened. His vision wavered as she clenched down. With several forced blinks, he felt his consciousness slipping as his head spun.

"Give up! I'll make it quick," she mocked. A forepaw pressed below Raevocrei's rib cage as her claws dug beneath his plated scales. A single claw slipped under the thick scale and began to penetrate his flesh, eliciting a howl of pain from him.

She won. Tears welled in his eyes from the pain and sorrow of his defeat. Once he died here, he would never see Ahkaeirvah again. She would lose him, and if she lost him she would have lost everything: her mother, her father, and her mate. He couldn't let that happen. "NO!" he roared, piercing the air with a powerful, reverberating voice.

With everything that I am, and with everything that I will be, I will not falter. I will never surrender. I will never give up. As long as my heart still beats, I will survive for Ahkaeirvah, no matter what cost! She is the sun to my day, the light that shines down upon me--my everything. From my love for her and from the light she gives me, I draw my strength!

Raevocrei lifted his head despite the powerful grip with which she held him down. His eyes turned golden, blazing like sunfire. His fiery glare met her icy-cold eyes, melting her defensive stare. "I will not be defeated!" As he rose and pushed her away, he saw her sudden fear. He saw her weakness. Energy powerfully coursed through his body like lightning. With a newfound strength, Raevocrei struck at her side in a blur, connecting his shoulder with her flank in an instant. The dragoness cried out as her ribs cracked and her chest easily caved in as if her bones were twigs. She fell weightily onto the ground and limply rolled several yards away. She came to a stop and laid there motionless.

Raevocrei's heart thrummed deeply, pounding inside his chest like a falling hammer. He walked to his father, his steps slowly becoming weaker. A sudden exhausting sensation shook his bones as the energy fleetingly left him and he collapsed close to his father. His father moved, groaning as he crawled to his son. Raevocrei blinked a few times before closing his eyes. Silent darkness found him, and he lost consciousness.

* * *

When Raevocrei finally came to, he found himself lying on the ground with Ahkaeirvah by his side, smiling with relief. She spoke--he saw her mouth move--but he could not hear her words. Fear gripped him, and he closed his eyes tightly shut. He couldn't hear anything. With his eyes open again, he watched her touch him. Vivid concern lit her eyes as she wore an expression of worry. He couldn't feel the paw caressing his cheek. He couldn't feel anything. His body was numb. Disturbed, he stood up quickly. He suddenly found himself back on the ground, collapsed. He couldn't move. Raevocrei tried to move, struggling. A silent cry escaped his lips.

A gentle kiss pecked his cheek. That kiss seemed to bring color to his world, rejuvenating his body with comforting warmth. He felt revived and suddenly opened his eyes, seeing Ahkaeirvah next to him as he lay on his furs and soft things. He was in his room, safe and alive.

"Raevocrei!" Ahkaeirvah shouted. She threw herself onto him and hugged him tightly. Pain shot through him, but he didn't react to it. Raevocrei felt her heat, and a smile slowly curled at his lips. He embraced her, holding her close while lying on his side. "I'm so glad you are awake." She sniffled. Warm tears that fell from Ahkaeirvah's cheek trickled down his ebony scales.

"Ahkaeirvah..." He looked into her gleaming, crimson eyes and cried with her.

"I- ... I thought you may never wake. You were asleep for nearly an entire day... I was scared," she admitted. "Your eyes were bright yellow, and you were thrashing in your sleep. I didn't know what to do."

"My eyes?" he asked. She nodded in response. Raevocrei disregarded it and smiled softly at her. "You did all you needed to do. Thank you." He nuzzled her, and she smiled back. His memories returned to him, and he anxiously asked, "Are you okay?" He saw no visible wounds on her.

"Yes..." she nuzzled him. "I am fine, but what about you?" she asked with sincere concern.

"I am weak and sore, but I am fine." He unfolded a wing to see the tears the dragoness left, but he didn't find a single trace of anything. The webbing was smooth and unscarred. He then felt his neck where her claws had punctured his hide. No sign of damage there either.

"What is it?"

"I... I thought I had a few wounds," he answered unsurely. With a quick change of subject, he asked, "Where is Father?"

"He is safe and with your mother. Your uncle treated his wounds and said that he will heal up fine, though it will take some time."

He exhaled a sigh of relief. "Those dragons... they were from the North."

A serious expression crossed Ahkaeirvah's face. "I know... The dragoness... I should have never left you."

"I'm alive because of you," he said, gently caressing her cheek. "And so is my father." She held his paw firmly, remaining silent. Raevocrei struggled to stand up, feeling his muscles aching. He trembled, but was soon standing on all-fours. For not having any wounds, he felt terribly weak. "I wish to see my family."

Ahkaeirvah let him lean on her and supported him as they walked across the den to his parents' chamber closer to the entrance. Dim light shined in from the evening sun. As he walked, every bone in his body ached painfully and profusely. His head throbbed discomfortingly. When they stepped into the chamber, Raevocrei's mother was sitting next to his father who lay on the bed. She turned and saw him, immediately smiling with relief.

"Raevocrei!" she ran up with her dark-blue scales bouncing and nuzzled him. "I'm grateful that you've returned to us."

"I never left," he said cheerfully.

She grinned and helped him to the bed. He leaned against it, seeing his father lying on his side facing them. His mother sat next to them both in front of her son, and Ahkaeirvah sat directly behind Raevocrei. "Father..." His cheerful expression diminished as he saw the ebony-scaled dragon limp in pain, covered in fresh bandages.

"I am pleased to see you are well," his father said. His voice sounded close to normal again, deep and powerful.

"But you are not, and I couldn't help you."

"Son, you saved my life." He smiled at Raevocrei, his golden eyes beaming radiantly. "Your mother has told me everything while I lie here helpless." He briefly smiled at Ahkaeirvah and returned his attention to his son. "I would gladly embrace you both if I were able. What a curse it is to be unable to move without pain," he growled crossly. "But I am alive because of you and your mate, and I will recover."

"Thank you..." Raevocrei bowed his head respectfully, and a small moment of silence passed between them. Curiosity gripped the young dragon, so he asked, "Why were you fighting them?"

His father sighed and closed his eyes. He blinked a few times and replied, "I was teaching one of our younger clan-mates--he was an offspring of a friend of mine--how to hunt large game... and they came out of nowhere. At the time, I didn't realize how far north we had traveled, but we were still far from their territory. I wasn't cautious nor was I concerned. But then they attacked us unexpectedly."

"There were four of them at first. Two of them attacked our clan-mate, and the other two attacked me. They quickly overpowered the youngling." He clenched his jaw tightly, taking a moment before continuing, "They killed him mercilessly while the female and another male distracted me... I couldn't save him. I managed to kill one of them out of rage before I tried to run. They chased me as I flew away. I wasn't nearly fast enough."

"You and Ahkaeirvah managed to hear my last cries for help, and for that I'm grateful." He smiled sincerely at them and held his mate's paw as she smiled softly at him. "If not for you two, I wouldn't be here. Thank you."

There was a light cough at the entrance to the chamber, and there stood Raevocrei's green-scaled uncle, Seirin. "I see the whole family is here," he stated as he casually walked up to them. "I have important news to bring you from the council, Ildrahn. Normally I'd have to ask everyone to leave, but this concerns us all."

"What is it, Seirin?" his father asked seriously.

"As of now, we know for sure that the North has been conquered by the clan that calls themselves Rahkzahn--Harbingers. The entire territory from the sea to sea is unified by their leader, who we have yet to discover."

Ahkaeirvah suddenly gripped Raevocrei's paw, clenching it tightly. He tenderly hugged her with a wing and nuzzled her reassuringly. With growing apprehension they listened to his uncle.

"We have yet to confirm this, but the council believes that Rahkzahn plans to invade the southern territories. From the information we've gathered about their conquest in the North, they only take by force and in no organized or tactical method. It has been agreed that our council leader should meet with the other clans immediately, so in your stead I will go."

Raevocrei's father sighed and angrily clenched his paws together. "Thank you, Brother."

Seirin bowed his head in respect. "I will return as soon as I can, and I will leave now. I'll be visiting our sister's clan first to inform her of your situation as well."

"There isn't much to tell,"

"She deserves to know that her brother nearly died!" he scolded. "And it will also help influence her in favoring us over our younger brother."

"As you would have it," he muttered.

Seirin looked at Ahkaeirvah and Raevocrei, giving them a cheerful smile before turning to leave. "Congratulations, you two. I'd say I would have never expected it, but I would be lying!" They grinned and watched him leave.

"I guess we have him to thank for bringing us together," Raevocrei said aside to Ahkaeirvah.

She nuzzled him and replied, "I would have followed you anyway."

"Raevocrei," his father abruptly said. "I want you to take Ahkaeirvah far from here and do not return until it is safe."

Raevocrei stood up and whirled around despite his injuries, facing his father again as his tail flicked aggressively behind him. "Father! We can't leave you and Mother here! We will fight, too!"

He growled heatedly and raised his neck from the bed while casting an angry glare. "You have a mate and an egg inside of her to worry about, not us! I will not allow you to risk that for me, your mother, or the clan."

Raevocrei nearly argued back, but he quickly realized that his father was right. If they stayed, they would be risking their lives. He almost died once already. "But... I'm your son. What would the rest of the clan think if you sent me away? You're our leader, so that makes me the heir. I cannot simply run from this war."

"Raevocrei, please..." his mother pleaded. Her kind, gentle expression begged him to listen.

Ildrahn's voice softened, but he was still entirely serious. "Take her and go. I don't care what others will think. You are my son, my only blood. I've already lost my daughter in this chaos. If it comes to war... I don't want you here."

Ahkaeirvah bravely stepped forward with a fire burning in her crimson eyes. She sternly stated, "I will not leave. I lost my family to this, and I will not run away while my new family risks their lives fighting the same battle my parents lost. If the war can be stopped here, then I will gladly fight it. If it cannot be stopped, then I would rather die than to live in constant fear!"

Raevocrei and his mother were stunned, and his father remained quiet, glaring at Ahkaeirvah. "I've only met one dragoness that dared to challenge my decision, and she became my mate. Now there is another, and she is my daughter." His expression changed, and he grinned with pride. "I completely disagree with your staying, but I cannot stop you nor will I try. I only pray for your safety." He laid his head back down, and Raevocrei saw his gleaming eyes. "Now leave me. I must contemplate." Raevocrei's mother smiled softly at her mate and nuzzled him gently.

They walked away with Ahkaeirvah supporting Raevocrei and left his parents together. Ahkaeirvah's expression was still cross even though she won the argument and had what she wanted. "What's wrong?" Raevocrei asked. They walked back into his chamber and lay down together on his soft bedding.

"What your father said was right," she replied. "We have so much to live for right now... I don't want to throw it away, but I cannot leave. If I allow these spiteful feelings to manifest while I have the chance to take vengeance, then I would inevitably do something foolish which would certainly lead to my death." She stared ahead, her face wrinkled with thought. "You saw what I did to that dragon... I- I didn't once think about it. I acted purely out of anger and hatred. Raevocrei... I-" Her eyes pinched shut and she shuddered.

Raevocrei cuddled up against her, pressing his ebony scales to her white scales to ease her, and shrouded her with a wing, ignoring the pain from his tight muscles. Her warmth was comforting to him. "We won't throw it away," he reassured. "No matter what, I will protect you and our egg."

"You can't hold off an army, Raevocrei." She stared sternly at him with gleaming, crimson eyes.

He placed his head over hers and responded, "For you, I will." He curled his neck around hers and held his head beside her other cheek. Gently, he flicked the back of her cheek where feathers stuck out. She couldn't help but smile. "I don't know how I defeated the dragoness, but I do remember why I did it." Their eyes met, and he continued, "I did it for you." Her gaze immediately softened. She licked his snout affectionately.

"We need to become stronger," she stated.

He agreed.

Time quickly passed while they cuddled together silently, each succumbed to their own thoughts. It was nearly an hour later before Raevocrei felt the desire to mate with her. His thoughts soon roamed to the dragoness instead of the upcoming threat. With the lavish strokes of his tongue, he licked the smooth, white scales on her neck. She hummed happily as his tongue traced down to her shoulders. He found the scar he gave her, feeling the soft flesh in place of her missing scales. She lightly moaned, reminded of their previous mating. As her form rubbed against him, pain coursed through Raevocrei's body, retelling his invisible afflictions. He groaned sorely and stopped licking her.

"Sorry..." she apologized, her eyes struck with concern.

"It's fine," he said. "I wanted to mate with you again, but..." He was disappointed, realizing that he was too weak and sore to mate.

Ahkaeirvah looked adoringly at Raevocrei. She licked him on the nose and said, "I have an idea." She withdrew from him and carefully rolled him onto his back, smiling happily. His dark, sapphire-blue underbelly tilted up as he exposed his body to her. Between his legs was his flaccid, pinkish-red length. Ahkaeirvah moved his black tail to the side and lay down before his hind-end. Raevocrei spread his legs apart and watched with growing anticipation. Her forepaws began kneading his member, feeling the soft flesh. Raevocrei grunted in response. Her flexible toes squeezed his swelling length while she rubbed him up and down with both paws. She played with it like a toy, pawing at it with gentle strokes. He was soon fully erect.

Ahkaeirvah's paws groped his hard cock, massaging his sensitive flesh. Her soft, sensual strokes rubbed him pleasurably. Raevocrei quietly moaned and clenched his toes. A knot formed at the base of his tool.

"You're going to have to be quieter if you don't want your parents to hear!" She deviously grinned at him while she worked his length.

"Nngh. That's going to be impossible!" The soft pads on her paws gripped his flesh as it ran between her digits. She pumped him vigorously, carefully avoiding grazing him with her claws. Raevocrei's own scent wafted into his nostrils--he imagined it was driving the female crazy.

Sure enough Ahkaeirvah was soon deeply inhaling his scent. Her nostrils flared as her maw moved closer until she began nuzzling it with the tip of her snout. Raevocrei soon felt her warm, wet tongue smother the head of his tool and groaned loudly, blushing and wincing. He didn't want his parents to hear them, but he couldn't hold it in! Pre escaped his tip in a small spurt and she quickly lapped it up. Ahkaeirvah grinned at him and stopped pawing at him. Instead, she held his hard member firmly, holding it straight up as she took it in her maw. Raevocrei's eyes widened and he bit on his paw, stifling his lewd moan. He felt her steamy mouth surrounding his length as it passed her lips. Her slick tongue rubbed against his flesh as it coiled around his cock. Inch by inch his tapered tip slid further into her mouth. He nibbled on his forepaw, wincing as pleasure tried to coax him to verbally elicit his ecstasy.

Ahkaeirvah's eyes met his as she lustfully sucked on his cock. She slowly withdrew from him, letting his length slip from her lips. She drooled over it, continuing to lick it as her head went back down. His member succumbed to her moist maw again, pressing into the back of her mouth. Her paws groped his knot as her mouth serviced him. More pre shot into her maw and it was quickly lapped up by the back of her tongue. She tasted him, sucking in quick breaths and exhaling through her mouth. Raevocrei suddenly clenched his jaw as she began to slowly bob her head. He drew a small amount of blood from where his teeth punctured the soft pads of his paw.

Raevocrei's cock slid in and out of Ahkaeirvah's warm mouth. Saliva clung to his length in a slick coating. Every breath she took, he could feel it wash over his warm shaft. She engulfed his length and took it into her maw while suckling on it. His tapered tip pressed against the back of her throat. He felt her gag on it and saw her wince, but she held it there, pleasuring him with her tongue. He watched her head begin to bob between his legs again. As she orally pleasured him, her mouth slurped while she sucked him off. Raevocrei felt his orgasm drawing closer, his loins burning with pleasure.

The male's tight muscles relaxed as he lay back basking in pleasure while his mate eagerly serviced him with her maw, his ailments nearly forgotten. Her paws continued to grope his crotch, pushing and pulling on his soft, sensitive scales surrounding his slit in a gentle massage. Raevocrei lightly moaned and felt more of his seed ooze out. Between ragged breaths, he said, "I'm close!"

Ahkaeirvah grinned and quickened her pace. Her tongue rolled around his shaft as she bobbed her head faster up and down. Raevocrei bit on his paw again, stifling his groans of pleasure. He watched her hold him tight as his muscle began to throb inside her maw. As the first thick rope of seed suddenly spewed from his tip, the female stopped bobbing her head. She winced and gagged as she pressed it deeper into her throat and continued to suckle on the male's tool. Raevocrei's body felt completely alleviated as he climaxed. He didn't feel any pain as his limbs shuddered uncontrollably.

Ahkaeirvah gulped down copious strings of his warm liquid, but most of it oozed out of her mouth. Her tongue coiled and licked his slimy, pulsing length. Pleasure coursed up Raevocrei's spine, drumming pleasantly inside of his head as every spurt ejaculated into his mate's mouth. She stared lovingly into his glazed-over, blue eyes, continuing to suckle on him even after he was finished.

Raevocrei smiled at her and collected himself. "That felt amazing, Ahkaeirvah."

She only smiled in response. Raevocrei watched her with a satisfied grin.

Suddenly, Raevocrei saw Kasheimah walking into their chamber. Before half of his body was even inside, his eyes widened and his jaw dropped with disbelief. He saw Ahkaeirvah's white-scaled body at the base of his friend's bedding and her head between his spread legs. "You too!?" he complained with a heavy sigh as he averted his gaze awkwardly.

Raevocrei flushed with embarrassment. The scales around his cheeks heated, and he clambered around, pulling his shrinking length from Ahkaeirvah's maw. It came out with an audible slurp as he lay onto his side, covering himself. Ahkaeirvah blushed too, but didn't act out of the ordinary. She calmly wiped and licked her mouth clean and turned to greet their red-scaled friend.

"First, I nearly walk in on your parents doing the same thing--thank the Gods they didn't notice--and now I had to walk in on you two!" He stared at the wall in front of him, refusing to look at them.

"I didn't need to know that," Raevocrei muttered.

"I came to check up on everyone, and it seems that you all are doing just fine!" he huffed.

"Are you jealous?" Ahkaeirvah teased.

Kasheimah turned to face them, quizzically mouthing at unformed words.

The female only grinned widely.

"Sorry, Kasheimah... We didn't expect anyone to walk in."

"I'm just not used to this whole 'you have mate' thing..." he smiled softly at them and turned around to leave. "I'm glad to see you're doing better, Raevocrei."

"Wait, Kasheimah." Raevocrei said.

His attention reverted back to his black-scaled friend. "Hm?"

"Have you heard what's happened?"

A gloomy expression covered his face. "Yes. Your uncle told me what he could before he left. That's how I heard you were awake. We can talk about it tomorrow." They exchanged farewells as he left them.
