The Adventures of Jacob Snow: Codex
2.2
The world as of yet does not have a generally agreed upon name like our does and is typically referred to by creatures not from it as "The World of the Living".
Demons are spiritual creatures that primarily reside in and reproduce in what is commonly understood as Hell. They are almost without exception chaotic creatures with little regard for anything but themselves and their own personal desires and needs. When thrust into the world of the living they have the tendency to be self-destructive and end up being reborn in hell rather quickly.
Magic is plentiful and powerful in the world of the living as opposed to hell where it is scarce and the only concentrations of it that are strong enough to use are the living souls of the demons that live and breed there. Magic comes in 3 types, Natural, Light, and Dark. Some spells can use more than one element to produce different effects, others can use different elements to power the same spell for different results. Typically living creatures generate Natural magic within their own bodies much like how a candle burns wax to produce flame. But in this case the wax is the nutrients of the body as well as the magic that is stored in microscopic amounts in the blood naturally, thus the feeling of fatigue from using magic. Demons souls generate Dark magic which is not stored by their bodies and is wicked away by the very air in hell. Light magic is the rarest, as it is generated only by true gods. Light magic is the stuff of religious legend, it has the ability to create virtually anything, as opposed to Natural magic which can only alter things that already exist, and Light magic can create new from nothing. Dark magic is a bit more complicated in its applications. It is effective at destroying things, but also at corrupting living things into more demonic forms. And in the most extreme examples, can convert a living thing into a demon. Dark magic is also capable of controlling demons, as they have no resistance to even the weakest mage using the poorest quality spells to control them. The only exception to this are the Royal Demons.
Royal Demons are beings with the greatest intellects in hell, they use their ability to think beyond the current to form plans, and eventually acquire enough souls to rise above the common demons who live, breed, die, and are reborn in an endless cycle. The royals built a mighty castle city in hell that keeps out the common demons as well as provides them comforts not found anywhere else in hell. Royals feed upon the innumerable common demons to increase their power, but eventually contain too many souls to retain the humanlike form they assume once they achieve the status of Royal. These bloated Royals begin to lose their minds as an insatiable desire to breed wells up inside them. The Royal males relieve themselves by using a female demon as a receptacle for excess souls, which are born back into the ever spinning cycle of life, death, and rebirth. The only way hell is able to increase its number of souls is for demons to enter the world of the living and consume them there. Thus the risk of using demons as a source of dark magic to the living. The Royal females are the same except that it is them who produces the young after sex.
Shamans are beings who reject the mage's guild teachings and study magic independently in nature, typically far from others of their kind. They have been known to pursue the potentially dangerous art of summoning and binding demons, as well as producing a single bloodline who produces traces of Light magic. This bloodline is treasured and protected at all costs by the shamans, and it was due to the need to protect this bloodline from the mage's guild or any other power who would seek to use it that the shamans had a great exodus to the far north where they live like primitives, and raise their young to be familiar with magic. And teach them from a very young age how to read it, how to shape it, how to draw spells properly, and how to use magic of all 3 elements. Only one child this far has been born who produces a significant amount of Light magic. He hails from the line of Snow, and his history can be traced back to great men all the way back into the Age of Magic.
It is in this humble nomadic village that our story begins, and it is here that Jacob Snow's legendary journey is begun. Civilizations: Human empires; Imperial (Holy Roman Empire mixed with elements of the British Industrial Revolution) , Orleasian Empire (French and Arabic cultures and fashions blended into a capitalist politocracy) Eastern City States (The Cultural Melting Pot, a land governed by the spirit of independence and ironically the dark heart of the slave trade. )
Dwarven Monarchy (An ancient and highly tradition bound people who are notoriously bad at making decisions in a timely manner. The heart of mineral production and refinery, also known for excellent stone masons, their intelligence rivals that of humans but they have a tenancy to have little resistance to greed. Commonly found in the employ of humans, and occasionally found as servants, and slaves.)
Elven Clans/Tribes (Small, leaderless, bands of disorganized people with little to no technological or economic value, or so the Imperial Empire thinks. Commonly found as servants/slaves, and in positions where they help without being in positions of authority, as their race is notoriously timid and easily dominated by the more aggressive races. Also known for their seemingly natural talent at using druidic magic as well as herbalism. )
Tribes of the Beast-men (typically tribes of same species Beast-men are found in small tribal social groups or villages, notable for their appearance greatly resembling different species of animals ,wolf, cat, fox, bear, sheep, cow, deer, goat, and others that are less well known. Notoriously over aggressive and having an inability to suppress emotion. Notable for having personalities akin to their parent animal, wolf=loyalty, cat=agility, fox=mischievousness, bear=strength, sheep=docility, deer=awareness, goat=gluttony, etc. all Beast-men sport larger reproductive organs than humans and higher sex drive as well as significantly greater fertility. They are also commonly servants, soldiers, and slaves to the more intelligent races, and guardians to the Elves. )
The Taur Herds (Taur refers to the people who possess the upper body of a human, and the lower half of a 4 legged animal. Most common are Centuar, Cowtaur, Deertaur, Goattaur, but other more exotic races exist. Notable for their almost human minds combined with the strength of their animal lower bodies. Notorious for low resistance to sexual temptation as well as a strong tendency towards gluttony. Frequently found as hired labor, soldiers, guards, and slaves. )
Fau (reptilian beasts of burden, akin to horses but carnivorous and less intelligent, they are valued for their ability to survive in the desert, and their reptilian ability to keep growing endlessly so long as food is abundant.
Fau'Dragons (the western name for Fau)
Dragons (demon possessed Fau who are physically altered by the demon controlling them. The older the dragon the less it looks like a Fau and the more it looks like a proper dragon with wings, and occasionally the ability to breathe fire. Most dragons cannot fly, as their wings are just for show, but if a dragon is possessed by a more intelligent or magically adept demon they can learn to use magic to lighten themselves enough to fly, or develop their bodies in a way that preserves the ability to fly. Most dragons retain the color of the Fau they possessed for the duration of their life, but the most powerful dragon's skin and scales grow progressively darker representing their power. Only the most powerful dragons are truey black however, and they are the ones who tend to survive the longest. Black Dragons are the apex predators of the entire world.)
Dragon people, Reptilians, or just Lizard people. (The reptile group of Beast-men, they possess just as much diversity as the Beast-men and pretty much the same strengths and weaknesses, although dragon people are typically smarter than Beast-men, but have a weakness to cold temperatures. Typically not sought after by humans for whoring as they are so different but in the big cities you can find anything.)
Fish people (The amphibious group of Beast-men, typically more sexual than the other races, but physically weaker. Their intellects are about equal to the Beast-men. Known to throw themselves onto ships seeking sex, it is not uncommon to see them as servants, slaves, but most commonly as whores.
The Avian (the very bottom of the intelligence spectrum, these colorful bird people are aggressive territorial until they see magic, they are known to worship mages like gods. And are notoriously stupid. Their species has a wide spread genetic disorder that causes them to be hyper fertile if they are sexually active outside of once or twice a year during specific breeding seasons. Their hyper fertility causes males to over exert themselves to the point of muscle failure and be bedridden for days afterwards as they battle to get their sexual urges back under control, females have it even worse when they are sexually active out of season. Their bodies kick into egg production overdrive and often times they produce eggs that are too large to pass, which causes a pile up inside them, which if untreated can be fatal. They are however the most common species to be found in the whoring industry as even the least attractive of their kind is stunningly beautiful to humans as well as most other races. They have breasts, and store their eggs inside their bellies instead of sitting in a nest in what looks nearly identical to pregnancy, with the exception being if get 'Egg bloat' from out of season mating, in which case they try to lay as quickly as they can to prevent a painful inflation. The Avian are physically weak, light, and fragile as their bones share much in common with the composition of feral birds. This makes them a poor choice for hard labor, and a poor choice for soldiers. Which really only leaves entertainment and jobs that aren't overly strenuous. The Avians in the whoring industry take powerful drugs to suppress their hormones and let them keep working. But they end up spending most of their earnings on those drugs and end up caught in an inescapable loop. Some more respectable places have made Avian whoring illegal as a measure to protect the poor birds from being used like that. But the Avians are notoriously stupid and most end up sexually active out of season anyway.)
Goblins (slightly smarter than Avians, but smaller and far less attractive. They are the most common slaves in poor countries, and excellent candidates for it because of their resilient bodies with tough bones and fast healing. They are loyal to even bad masters so long as they see him as having more power than them, should they begin to think of him as no longer being stronger than them, they will revolt and probably eat the man whether he was kind to them or not, it's all about power to goblins, nice and cruel mean little. They can eat nearly anything and not get sick, there are even reports of them feeding on the dung of farmers animals because they care so little what they eat. They possess incredible immune systems that keep them healthy even with the most disturbing diets imaginable. They grow to full maturity in 2 years, and can produce as many as 6 babies on their first pregnancy. They give birth after only 2 months, and are ready to get pregnant the same day they give birth. Their bodies are blessed with an unbelievable fortitude and impressive regeneration which allows them to work extremely hard for hours, eat something, nap an hour and repeat. They have nearly no attention span to anything except their current job, and their master. Which makes them almost unteachable and therefore permanently uneducated. They are commonly kept as slaves, and in some cases raised as pets, and in the rarest cases, they are bred to be more attractive, smarter, more fertile, stronger, bigger, and because they reproduce too quickly it doesn't take all that long to breed whatever the breeder thinks is the ideal goblin. Goblins have been bred into several extremely different forms from their ugly wild form. Most significantly is the Orc, massive human height creatures with the mind of a goblin, but the muscles of a Minotaur on a smaller skeleton. These brutish creatures still possess the resilience and regeneration of their wild kin, but are a much more useful size, and can be ferocious, albeit difficult to control berserkers, as well as the best hard labor money can buy, so long as it doesn't require much thought. Almost all Orcs are born male, with only one in roughly 100 born female, and those precious few females are dedicated to a life of breeding. Their minds are designed for it however and if given the choice none of them would choose a different path as their instinct to breed is so strong. Female orcs are even more productive than their wild kin, producing so many children that for most of their pregnancy they are suspended off the ground by their massive bellies. It takes special care to sustain them, and near continuous feeding. But orcs are so valuable that the breeders still make a fortune from it. The other type of goblin that has been bred is a show goblin. Bred to be sexy little fertility dolls with cute faces and absurd proportions. There is a market for doll goblins in almost every black market in the 3 empires. They are more affordable than Orcs, and thus more people buy them. the ones that are sold have a curse mark placed on their bellies preventing them from producing young so the few individuals who own all the breeding dolls control the market. They are very powerful men in the underworld. Doll goblins are bred to have a shy personality, and a powerful sex drive. Their conflicted emotions make them many times cuter to their buyers.
Fairies: These tiny little creatures are drawn to magic, and judging by the shininess of their thighs, had been watching for a while. Fairies are an entirely female species of tiny magical winged caretakers of the forest. They are seldom ever seen and then almost exclusively in the forest far beyond the domain of humans. They are spoken of in stories as little tricksters, and as childish and naughty. In reality they are little perverts who flit from place to place pollenating flowers and pleasuring themselves with almost anything they can fit inside their little pussies. They are attracted to and take care of magical creatures, partly because they thrive on the magic that those creatures naturally emit, but also because they are horny little buggers whose most common amusement is trying to take the biggest male they can seduce. They look human, but move like humming birds. Common fairies are almost without exception unable to speak human, they can't slow down enough to be understood. But their queens can. Fairies come from queens much like bees all come from queens, but fairies are much less industrious. The main purpose of common fairies is to tell their queen about potential mates they find, particularly ones who produce a lot of magic.
Fairy queens mate with creatures or people who possess above average magical bodies in order to replenish the population of fairies. Most of the woodsmen tell tales of the fairy queens, and a few have even had the honor of being chosen. Even humans with no magical ability whatsoever are more magical that the majority of woodland beasts, and are thusly incredibly tempting to fairies. Humans unlike animals are risky however, because they have been known to trap queens for repeated use. Something that all queens are warned about as children, repeated use of a queen causes her to become overly productive, and eventually her pregnancy will grow to a size where she can no longer fly away, if that happens in the possession of a human who is using her frequently she has the risk of bursting, as fairies can be repeatedly impregnated even while they are already pregnant. This would be absolutely disastrous for a normal creature, but fairy queens bodies are designed to birth fully grown young, and adding a few more to a batch is simply an inconvenience to her, as it keeps her bloated with babies longer. Theoretically if the male who was keeping a fairy captive and using her were a powerful mage, she could feed off his power and keep herself healed no matter how large she grew. Regardless of that, the queens try to avoid humans entirely if possible.
Landscapes: North, arctic mountains, frozen lake with dangerous fissures that go down for hundreds of feet. Caves occasionally inhabited by wild goblins. Fields where the northern lights seem to grow out of the snow in the form of giant crystal formations that glow at night. Shaman village; hide half buried in the snow with smoke wisping out of the tops of the tents from fires that are never let die. A totem pole carved with magical symbols that are used to perform protection spells marks the center of the village, Think Eskimo culture. Ancient Ruins are found across the land, most are abandoned, but some attract bandits or goblins. They are the remains of the greatest city of mages in history, a nation city that spanned from ocean to ocean with every inch of land being used for one thing or another. Until the dragons destroyed it.
