So I've been working on this for a little, hope you guys like it.

And as always comment, vote and fav.

The sausage, mash and gravy sat steamily in front of Alex, who sat quietly at a window seat in his favourite diner. He slowly moved one of the two sausages with his fork, as if to prompt it to do something, his stomach grumbled for him to eat which his mind dismissed quickly. Alex continued to move the sausage slowly until a soft voice next to him brought him out of thought.

"Something on your mind, hun?"

Alex looked up slightly to see a blonde haired, striped bloused, young lady with a small notepad and pencil. "Kinda," he replied shortly.

"Want to talk? I'm about to go on my break. Truth be told I could do with something to do, I don't even need my breaks with the amount of work I do here."

Alex took a second or two to reply, thinking it over. "Sure, I guess it might help."

The waitress gave him a sweet smile and went through the back of the building, returning a few minutes later without her red work apron and notepad. She sat down in front of Alex and relaxed in the soft 1950's styled booth.

"What's a young thing like you doing here on a Saturday?"

"I'm waiting for my friends, thought I'd get started on some food."

"So, what was stealing your thoughts earlier?"

"Well... I was on a date and it ended badly." Alex said, his knife and fork finally getting part of the sausage free.

"'Badly' as in an argument?"

"Well no, my... boyfriend broke up with me." Alex almost didn't say the last part of the sentence.

"I'm sorry to hear that," she said.

"You're not surprised?" Alex asked, his face showing his confusement clearly.

"No, when you were playing with your food I could see your pride armband."

"Oh," Alex said, his hand went to where his pride armband sat on his arm. "Was it obvious?"

"A little, but its ok. It's good to be proud of who you are."

"Thanks," Alex said as he slowly started to eat the food in front of him.

"You know, I know a little of how you feel."

"What do you mean?"

"I had a fight with my hun back home about a two years ago. Worst one we ever had, I stormed out and just started walking, didn't care where. It was nearly an hour before I came to my senses and saw how stupid I was, so I ran, I ran back to our apartment like my life depended on it. When I got there you know what I said?"

"What?"

"I apologised for every little, stupid thing I did that night, and every night before and after that. And I promised never to leave again, to stay be my hun's side for the rest of my life. Little did I know my hun was doing some realising as well, decided if I came back and apologized that she would do something very special."

"She?"

"You seriously thought you were the only gay person around here?"

"Well I know I'm not, but I guess it slips my mind sometimes."

"Well of course I came back and apologized, so she just gave me one of her smiles, went down on one knee and popped out the most beautiful ring. And we've been happily married for a year last month." The waitress said, showing a diamond, gold and silver intertwined ring.

"It's nice to hear that it worked out for you two," Alex said, giving her the best smile he could.

"Well look," she said as she took out her pen and pad, writing something down. "This is my number, call me if you need anything."

Alex stared at the piece of paper when she gave it to her, "thank you."

"No problem," she said. "I've gotta get back to work before my boss yells at me, see you around."

"Bye," Alex said as she got up and went into the back of the building again.

Alex slowly ate his food as he waited for his friend, the taste of the food making him more and more hungry for more. His eyes darted up to the door every now and again, worry slowly creeping up from the back of his mind.

After ten minutes of waiting the door slowly opened, making Alex look up. In walked a tall, darkly furred, humanoid wolf with a jade green and ruby red set of robes. A collar was visible from between the overcoat and the undershirt, the jade coloured leather went well with the ruby gem in the middle. After the wolf came a dark haired man with a similar physic as the wolf wearing a, if only slightly less conspicuous, jade green and ruby red long jacket.

The two of them walked over to Alex's table, sat down and gave him small smiles. "Hey, Alex."

"Hey, Guys."

"How are you doing?" The wolf asked, Alex knew this question was coming.

"I'm getting there slowly, Gale." Alex replied simply.

"Look, I know it was hard for you, having Clint break up with you." The dark haired man said, his elbows resting on the table. "But, there's always someone out there."

"You think?"

"Of course I do, how'd you think I got with my wolf here?" The man said, putting his hand into Gale's furry paw.

"Jake, I wish I was as lucky as you." Alex said.

"You are, you just don't know it yet." Jake replied.

"What do you mean?"

"Well, we know someone that you might be interested in." Gale said.

"Really?"

"Yeah. I think you'll like him, his name's Heston, he's a hare."

"A hare? I'm not so sure," Alex said shyly. "It hasn't been that long since Clint."

"It's been a month, Alex. It's time to start looking around again, what's the harm anyway?"

Alex took a second before he replied, "sure."

"Excellent, here he comes now." Gale said as he looked out the window.

"Did you two bring him here knowing I would say yes?!"

"Um... yeah," Gale said with a wicked grin on his muzzle. He got up and walked over to the door, greeting the hare as he got in.

"Just saying, not my idea." Jake said, putting his hands up.

"Yeah, I know. It does have that canine spark to it, and with Gale plans are usually bloody smart."

"Two of the many reasons why I love him," Jake said with a smile as Gale and Heston came over to the two of them.

"Alex, this is Heston. Heston, this is Alex." Gale said, gesturing to Heston and Alex when he said their names.

"Hey," they both said as they shook hands.

Jake offered Heston his seat, which he accepted with a: "Thanks."

Gale sat next to Alex, Jake next to Heston.

"So, Alex, I hear you're working to become a writer." Heston said.

"Yeah," Alex said, feeling his cheeks burn a little. "What do you work in?"

"Construction," Heston said.

"Oh, what company do you work for?"

"I work for Smithbros Inc. it's a small company in the north."

Alex nodded at certain points as Heston started to talk about the business, talking when the conversation came to him. Jake and Gale started small conversations between themselves but mostly they stayed quiet, both keeping an eye on the two of them.

"So, perhaps we should see each other again sometime?" Heston hinted as their conversation ended.

"I'd like that," Alex said.

"Should I call you?"

"Sure, here's my number." He said, writing down his number onto a piece of paper and passing it to Heston.

"Thanks."

"Don't mention it," Alex said with a smile.

As the conversation ended they got up from the booth and headed to the exit.

"So, I'll speak to you soon?" Heston asked.

"Yeah," Alex replied.

"Well, see you guys soon."

"Bye," they all replied to the hare.

"So? What'd you think?" Gale asked.

"He's cute," Alex replied.

"And...?"

"He seems really nice, and he has a really great ass."

"You dog!" Gale replied as he pushed Alex softly.

"Says the wolf," Alex countered.

Gale barked out a laugh.

"We have a meal in the slow cooker, so we need to be heading back," Jake said after a moment as he looked to the clock on his phone.

"Sure thing," Alex said. "See you soon."

"Bye," Gale and Jake said as Alex started to walk home.

From The Wolf's Mouth (Part 2)
