Part 4: A Sacrifice Made
#4 of Night Wing
As Michael watched his beauty fly off into the night air his heart soared, he gave a small smile and a chuckle as he saw her tail flick across her amazingly cute behind. Then he winced as he remembered the pain in his nuts although he wouldn't have traded any amount of pain for that wonderful evening with his love. Michael walked from the balcony and sat back at his living room table. He took a mango slice from the tray and took a bite. His meal was interrupted by a beep from over by his bookcase. He looked over to the hutch and sighed as he stood.
He contemplated a few things as he decided to make a few phone calls. He loved Night wing with all his heart but how long could he protect her. He had not told him all the truth nor was he sure he could. He knew soon changes would have to be, but he wondered could he simply continue as he was. Could this be the life he wanted. No he decided it would not stay like this it was time for him to lay all his cards on the table and take his place with Night wing at her side.
"Michael 6371 Voice print verification Echo Gamma Overdrive," He spook the words with a different tone of authority and angrily than anyone would hear him say anywhere else.
With the command the hutch moved to the side and a large computer console slid forward into the room a large screen showing that a message from M.C.C.W.A. had made it to him. He knew what it was he even knew who sent it although he wasn't sure how to respond. He walked to the console and began typing his uplink codes before dawning the head set.
"Hello Davis I figured you would call me soon but some how I thought I would get another week in before you had decided to contact me," Michael stated in a matter of fact.
"Hell agent 5 I am sorry you have decided to fault on your contract you were a highly valued agent," Davis replied.
"I'm sorry Dave but I was never a killer you knew that and you knew this would happen after my last report," Michael stated.
"I know why you did it Michael and I understand. Your status with M.C.C.W.A. has already been revoked I deleted your records from the satellite myself and made it look like a hack job. They don't even know your present location but that's all I can do for you my old friend. I hope that settles our debt. Before I go I wish you well and understand that if I am assigned to hunt," Davis was interrupted.
"Yes my old friend I understand you have done more than enough and we are even. I will see you in the next life...my brother," Michael said before terminating the transmission.
Michael put down the headset and sighed, he used the terminal to check his Swiss accounts and then erased all data. He got up and opened a heating vent and typed a five-digit code in a hidden keypad there. His table slid to the side and the floor opened a large rack sliding up with his gear. He dawned the suit loading all the holsters and holders with the various lightweight equipment. He then used a button on the suits forearm to open the wall spot that held the flight attachments to his suit. He looked back to the console again and spoke the words that would end his career with the M.C.C.W.A. forever.
"Computer self destruct command code 666 Michael," he walked to the balcony, "authorization password final battle."
Michael took flight with his flight pack leaving the apartment as it was consumed in flames taking one final look back to his past and then looking to his future as he flew towards the warehouse.
Michael thought about his life with the agency the years of work and his considerable reputation. All the time he had spent in the field the years as a mercenary of unparalleled skill. All he was giving up with this flight to the warehouse. He had killed agents in the past, everyone had to do it to survive, and it was a job not a life. The one constant in the agency was attitude even if you hated people it was understood it was a job, dying was a risk. The first thing his mentor had taught him was never let it be personal. That's what will get you killed he'd say when they got there assignment. All he could think about was the night his mentor disappeared from the agency. Michael could have tracked him but it was policy to not contract the pupil to kill the mentor. It allowed too much risk in betrayal. It was the first and only time he would have refused an assignment. But what now he was marked and he knew that they would come after him but he also knew he was the best. He considered the possibility of saying the government came after him and never telling night wing the truth. He knew that was a stupid idea.
"Its time Night wing, that you knew the truth, the whole truth," he thought to himself.
His rockets carried him into the night sky towards his destiny.
