Chapter 4 â€" Heartless or Not
Leo returned to the two gates quickly and entered the classroom adjacent to the first gat. The moment he passed through the threshold, the classroom's atmosphere changed quickly and he became the center of attention. The room was mostly full as the already present students looked at him with strange eyes, eyes like a hawk's as a matter of fact. He sat down in the back as the eyes followed him. People were whispering to one another as quietly as possible but Leo's keen ears caught words like kiss, Leo, and gay.
"Someone kill me right now," murmured Leo sitting down.
"Dude, is the rumor true that you're cheating on Audrey with another guy?" asked someone to the lift of Leo.
"No," answered Leo without turning his head towards the person.
"Then why don't you stop it?" asked the same person.
"What's the point? It's on a rumor," answered Leo.
"But she will hear it and break up with you," said the person.
"I don't really care about that. I never really loved her," said Leo calmly without a single hint of hesitation.
"What?! You can't mean that dude! You can't possibly mean it!" exclaimed the person getting out of his seat.
"Well I do cause it's the truth," said Leo.
"You're a fucked up person! Why did you even get with her?! So you can screw her?!" fumed the person turning his hands into fists.
"What is it with you hormone controlled men and sex? Honestly, though, I don't know why I ever got with her," said Leo turning his head to the person and sitting straight up.
The person is a hybrid between a human and fox. The long red tail swung behind the hybrid and the red fox ears stood straight and tall. The hybrid is naturally strong and buff due to his human half and stood almost 7 feet but under by about two or three inches. Wearing a sleeveless shirt to show off his buff and tan arms, baggy blue jeans, and red converse, he moved closer to Leo but only by a bout a foot in the two feet distance between the desks. The almond colored eyes stared into Leo's as he face started to turn hot red.
"You mother fucking asshole!!" shouted the hybrid grabbing Leo's shirt collar and lifting him high out of his chair using both of his hands.
The people around them gasped in shock as Leo just floated there without any form of resistance. Some had the urge to get someone but stayed in fear. The surrounding classrooms on the other side of two perpendicular walls is wondering what's going on.
"Calm down before someone gets physically hurt," said Leo as he is barely breathing properly.
"You're right cause you're about to get hurt!" shouted the hybrid even louder.
Letting one hand go and leveling Leo so that his other arm is perpendicular to his body, the hybrid pulled his free hand back into a fist. Leo still wasn't putting up any sign of defense as the fist flew towards his face. Loosening his grip on Leo and bringing Leo into the fist caused Leo to fly back about two or three rows of chairs onto his back. Everyone gasped in shock in what they just saw.
The room is silent as the hybrid is breathing heavily but sill enraged. Leo lay on the floor and didn't seem to like he was breathing as blood flowed down the side of his face from the top of his head. The fur glistened as someone got up and left the room quickly to get an authoritative figure. It wasn't love until the person returned with a brown skinned human wearing slack, a turtleneck sweater, and a scarf around the neck.
"What happened?" asked the human walking towards the hybrid.
"Nothing's. Wrong," huffed the hybrid.
The human stood next to the hybrid and saw Leo on the floor not moving. Moving to Leo and squatting down next to Leo's head, the human looked at Leo and noticed the blood.
"Did you do this, Demitri?" asked the human.
"No. He did. That to. Himself," huffed Demitri as he slowly calmed down.
"You know better than to punch people in the head," said the human oblivious to the swelling around Leo's left eye.
"I. Didn't. Do. Anything," huffed Demitri.
"I don't care if you did or didn't do this. You're taking Leo to the nurse and waiting there until he wakes up," said the human sternly
"Damn all of this," muttered Demitri as he walked towards Leo.
Demitri stood over Leo and examined his work. The blood trail crusted and the swelling began to turn purple as Demitri bent down and scooped Leo up, left arm cradled the back as the right held up the legs. Silently but swiftly Demitri slid out of the room and made his way across campus diagonally.
"Dumbass Leo. Going off and kissing another guy. Why did it have to come to that? I'm going to kill the motherfucker he kissed," mumbled Demitri quietly.
"Still upset I see," said Leo surprising Demitri.
"You're awake?!" exclaimed Demitri.
"Of course I was. Been awake the whole time," said Leo examining his situation. "You don't mind letting me down, do you? Or are you going to snap me in half?"
Demitri set Leo down even though he would rather drop Leo or snap Leo into many pieces so he couldn't move anymore. Doing either action would have Audrey worry about Leo's welfare. Leo sprang up the moment his feet touched the ground.
"Now that we're outdoors, we can talk. Great punch by the way. No one has been able to make me fly before," said Leo walking to the nurse's office.
"I wanna know why," said Demitri firmly.
"Excuse me?" asked Leo stopping and turning his head.
"I wanna know why you kissed a guy," elaborated Demitri.
"Oh, well...you see...I, uh," began Leo as he thought about the question.
"Is it that hard to answer?" asked Demitri.
"You wouldn't understand if I explained it to you," said Leo turning all the way around. "Man did that ache."
"Why wouldn't I understand? I'm just a year younger than you are," stated Demitri with complete confidence.
"You're not one year younger than I. I'm actually 16 and I'm not required to explain myself. I don't care if Audrey is going to break up with me because of that rumor," said Leo.
"How can you not care? Do you even have a shred of humanity?" questioned Demitri.
"Actually...no," said Leo calmly leaving Demitri completely shocked. "The way I grew up turned me into what I am today."
Demitri didn't hear Leo's last sentence as he stared in disbelief. Leo returned to his previous action as he set some distance between Demitri and himself. Demitri quickly got out of his shock and ran after Leo who was about 13 feet away.
"How can you not have a shred of humanity inside of you?! It's not possible!" shouted Demitri when he came up to Leo.
"Of course it is but that doesn't mean it's gone forever," said Leo.
"Yes it is! You'll never get it back no matter what you do! Hell, it won't matter what I do huh?" asked Demitri.
"It doesn't matter right now," responded Leo.
Leo and Demitri were about to turn left at a building corner when a little girl flew by them. A large group of angry people were chasing her.
"Whoa!" exclaimed Demitri as he jumped back at the sudden rush.
"Sarah," said Leo sharply running after the group.
"Wait up!" shouted Demitri running after Leo.
The little girl ran as fast as she could and suddenly tripped, hitting the ground hard as she braced herself for the impact. The large group of people caught up and surrounded the little girl as she started to recover from the impact. A man from the ring stepped in, grabbed the little girl by her collar, and lifted her up high.
"Where is he you fucking runt?" asked the person roughly.
"Get your hands off of me!" shouted the little girl.
"Answer my question bitch! Where is he?!" shouted the man.
"Get your hands off of me! My cousin will kill you if you don't!" shouted the little girl.
"I'm tired of asking this god damn question! Now answer it or I'll have Joe there shoot a hole in your heat!" shouted the man as his face turned blood red.
One person in the ring pulled out a nighthawk and pointed it at the girl.
"Ready when you are, boss," said Joe.
"See! I mean it! Now answer the question!" shouted the man turning purple.
"No! Now let me go!" screamed the little girl.
"Shoot her, Joe!" screamed the man.
"I'd think twice if I were you, Joe," said a dark voice.
"What?" asked Joe turning around.
A paw shot into Joe's stomach, casing him to bend over, followed by a knee into the face. Joe collapsed instantly gripping his stomach while blood flowed from a broken nose. The figure moved to the next person and knocked it out as well. At this point, everyone in the ring pulled out brass knuckles or guns, ready to take on the enemy. The figure danced his way through everyone until the ring was lying on the ground unconscious. Some bullets were fired but they all missed.
"Who the hell are you?!" demanded the man throwing the little girl aside.
"AH!" screamed the little girl closing her eyes.
"Someone with a lot of problems," said the figure gliding underneath the little girl and catching her.
"What?" thought the man.
"In coming!" shouted a rough voice charging into the man with great velocity.
Placing the little girl on the ground, the figure dashed towards the man on the ground and jumped high into the air. Landing on the man's stomach perfectly, the figure squatted down to the man's face.
"Leave her alone or else it will be serious," said the figure darkly before getting off.
"Good thing we got here on time or else she would've died," said the rough voice.
"Whatever," said the figure watching the man run away.
"Wait a minute! Why'd you help her? You're not supposed to have a shred of humanity left!" exclaimed the charger.
"Shut it, Demitri," snapped Leo as he bend down to the little girl.
The little girl laid there thinking she was dead. Dressed in a white dress with white slippers, the little girl slowly opened her eyes.
"You okay, Sarah?" asked Leo.
Immediately the little girl stood up and began dusting herself while checking for tears, cuts, and bruises. She kept her head down since she turned red and allowed her long silky golden bronze hair hide her face. The waves in her hair looked natural as it swayed back and forth from her abrupt movements.
"Leo, who exactly is she?" asked Demitri.
"I'm Sarah Vale," said Sarah slowly trying to hide her nervousness.
Leo passed his paw through Sarah's hair before pulling it back so he could see her face clearly. Her white skin emerged from beneath the hair as light green eyes darted this way and that. The rosy color lips tightened slightly before she gave up trying to hide her face.
"Where's your ribbon?" asked Leo.
Sarah's face returned to it's normal color as she looked frantically around for her ribbon.
"You're 10 and you lost another ribbon?" inquired Leo.
"No! It's around here somewhere!" exclaimed Sarah.
Demitri reached into his right pocket and pulled out a long white string.
"Is this it?" asked Demitri holding it out for Sarah to see.
"Yes!" shouted Sarah as she took it from Demitri's hand. "Thank you!"
"Now you're going to tell me what you're doing here," said Leo.
"Well...It's a very, very long story," said Sarah laughing weakly.
