Culture(s): Arcathions are a proud race that prides itself on physical prowess and feats of strength, with a number of myths from different tribes telling of individuals who accomplished such tasks. The women of this race hold a lot of cultural significance since they tend to fill the artisan roles of their society, crafting various products ranging from carvings to cutlery. Men tend to fill the gathering roles, such as Hunters, Miners, Lumberjacks, and fishermen though they tend to be the innovators in the field, often improvising gadgets and devices. Arcathions normally will learn a trade at an early age, becoming apprentices to their relatives who practice said trades.
Arcathion Politics works rather queerly in contrast to their neighboring cousins, The Varandions. Games and events that require athleticism are used to resolve conflicts between clans and tribes when skirmishing against one another has proven too costly. This type of conflict-resolution is even used between two members of any tribe; mostly males will fight over certain resources such as food and mates.
Arcathion cuisine is often made using fermentation in the preparation and preservation of foods, being stored in various apparatuses such as clay pots, and wooden casks. Beverages are even fermented after their initial brewing, increasing their flavor. Nothing goes to waste in their culture when it comes to food, partially because an Arcathion's Olfactory sense will react to the scent of something rotting or decaying, a practical dinner bell. Bones are even grounded up into powder then turned into a sticky paste used to feed their offspring.
The Arcathions have a number of religions that are centered on a basic concept. One of the most common is worshipping the planet itself as a deity which is found across a number of clans who live in the lusher climates where natural fauna and flora are abundant. There is a handful of tribes though who worship the stars themselves, they are found in the vaster, open regions of the planet where the night sky lights up like a planetarium theater with millions upon millions of faraway lights flickering in a chorus of astronomical wonder.
Factions : While they are many tribes and clans on the planet, they are some who are well known for certain attributes.
The Muggor Clan , this tribe is known for its dominance over the Great Marshlands in the southeastern hemisphere of the planet as well as its members being probably some of the most skilled swimmers on the planet. They often trade with the Varandion merchants, who establish trading posts for the Ga'roa Corporation or the Kada'wah agency. the Muggors will exchange pearls found in swamp oysters in exchange for material for fishing nets and other oddball items that they deem useful. A member of the Muggor clan can easily be identified by their steely gray scales which are unique to their tribe along with their litheness and average height of 7 feet.
The Nilo Tribe , if you're brave enough to challenge any member of this clan, you'd be called crazy for even thinking of doing it. The Nilo tribe inhabits the central hemisphere of Deyin III, in a Large river valley where the cultivate medicines and ranch Potamids, which are related to earth's Hippos with the exception being the size of an elephant, to trade with other clans in exchange for raw metal ore. They are known for their brutish physiology and raw physical strength; even their women are intimidating enough to put any other Arcathion male in their place. They are fortunately a non-aggressive clan, though won't put with any trouble from their neighbors. An easy way to tell if one is of the Nilo tribe is by their signature black scales.
The Sartet Clan , Primitive, crude and lecherous... along with short is the best way to describe this tribe of deliquents. They are long-standing rivals with the Nilo tribe who live north of them. the Sartets often slip into their valley during the dry season to poach on the abundance of crustaceans that lurk at the river bottom. Any member of this that gets caught by one of the Nilo is subjected to their law of "If any one catches a sartet, you do what you wish with them" which often leads to them being enslaved to do some of more tedious labor of farming. The Sartets can be identified by their short height, muddy brown scales, and light underbelly.
The Liga Tribe , Well... if you ever looking to meet some of most hospitable creatures, you'll find it in this clan, Liga's are a nomadic group that travels to new campsites from season to season. They are highly respected amongst the Arcathions for their friendly nature, and their spirituality, even the Sartets bow before them. The Liga tribe is also known for its unique whitish scale coloration, which makes them easy to spot from quite a distance away.
Technology : Arcathions, while their physical stature may be misleading, are actually quite an ingenutive race. They are quick to use the environment to their advantage, and the resources provided to them, their world is abundant with minerals and medicinal plants. Deyin III has almost over 500 species of plants that either have some beneficial properties or healing purpose. Crude Hydraulics also play into their everyday lives.
Arcathions have decent understanding of basic chemistry using the natural ingredients found in their environments, such as saltpeter, sulfur, and charcoal from their fires to create gunpowder. They are also skilled in mixing plants and herbs together to create poultices to remedy particular ailments. It is a common hobby for many Arcathions to pick up this practice, mainly the men of this race find it rather entertaining when a clay pot blows up in a cloud of green smoke, and often carry around the reagents to make their bombs along with a mortar & pestle.
Arcathions are literate with their own, albeit recently created, glyphic writing system, since a Papyrus-like plant grows abundant like a pestilent weed throughout their entire world. The Varandions showed them how to make paper from this plant and showed their tribal cousins their alphabet, which lead to the big crocodilian humanoids to develop a new alphabet by borrowing symbols. Books written by Arcathion authors often find their way to Deyin IV, telling of their Mythologies, personal adventures, and recipes for food, medicine and explosives.
Beyond their normal technological progression, the Varandions supply them with raw materials that are centuries beyond their natural progression, namely space age alloys and heavy duty fibers, which are used by Arcathion Artisans for tools and equipment.
Allies : Varandions are the Arcathion's best allies since they exchange a lot of goods and cultural wares, for example: a Tol'risian weapon-smith can have his blades end up on Deyin III while an Arcathion Potter could have their craft find its way into the home of a Varandions politician. The Ga'Roa Corporation often recruits young Arcathions into their security forces in exchange for providing their tribesmen back home supplies and deals on certain goods. Some tribes have even gone to extent of migrating to Deyin IV for various purposes, mainly to avoid further conflict with clans like the Nilo or the Sartet.
Recidians... Well it's complicated. These spiky haired humanoids have a special place in the hearts' of the Arcathion race since they bear resemblance to an Animal that was a favored pet that was known for its fuzzy fur and quills, that went extinct on their planet a few generations ago. Recidian slaves that somehow make their way onto Deyin III tend to get put in positions where they are subjected to the Arcathions' misplaced affection. Recidians are treated like pets on this planet, meaning they tend get spoiled by their masters, which is better than the way the Apacians treat them.
The Arcathions also aided inadvertently in restoring their race's population since when first introduced to Deyin II.The Recidians began breeding like crazy due to the high natural humidity, nearly to the point that there were more of them on the planet than there were Arcathions...
Ga'Roa Corporation , the GRC hires out a lot of Arcathion muscle for security teams and general strength that the Varandion physiology lacks. The Sartet clan is its biggest stock for employees since this tribe of undesirables is pretty much regarded as the bottommost rung of Arcathion Civilization and lacks the sense of morality that the other tribes possess. The GRC has outposts all over the planet, trading their stock with native population, secretly gypping them out of their hard earned precious metals.
The Kada'wah Agency , the KWA is very popular in Deyin III because of the insurance packages that it offers to the natives though despite the idea of having Tool insurance may seem frivolous, its useful for when your profession relies on said tool. Kada'wah maintain Trading posts on this planet because of their intense rivalry with the GRC. They are heavily associated with the Nilo tribe and muggors since they have a vested interest in securing such diplomatic relations outside their territory.
Enemies : The Arcathions do not tend to get much of the negative publicity that the Varandions do since they are considered the "Dumb Muscle" for Varandion Corporations.
Hostility : When you're probably taller than most other sentient races in your belt of the Milky Way, Intimidation works just fine...
Physical Description : Arcathions are very statuesque in nature with evolution favoring a stronger skeletal and muscular foundation to ward off predators as compared their Varandion cousins designed to run away from vicious carnivores. Your average native to Deyin III is capable of lifting a 200-pound anvil without much of second thought, due to their muscles centered on their spinal column and legs. They are known for their short beak-like snouts that seem have to become shorter over the generations in favor of more balanced physical features. Their long large tails act as counterbalance to the sheer amount of weight found near their centers of gravity.
Eyes : Varying eye colors, though gold tends to be rather common. When their eyes are focused on prey, the irisis will turn from round to a cat-like slit.
Hair : Hair is very rare feature on Arcathions though older arcathions will develop bristles on their when they age
Scales/Skin : Arcathions, namely males, are known for their thick scaley hides that can stand up to quite the beating.
Sexual Dimorphism : if you can't tell the difference between a female and male arcathion on this planet, you need your eyes examined! Woman of this race tend be more developed around their lower abdomen and hips, physically oriented for the act of laying eggs. Their center of gravity is situated near their womb, creating better balance and control when it comes time to lay eggs comparable three-thirds the size of an ostrich's
Sexuality : "I don't want to know what goes on in your home; I don't even need to know. I got better things to think about." This phrase best describes Arcathion sexuality, which is often kept in private. Spirit siblings are a term in Arcathion culture to denote homosexuals amongst their society, and it's considered a taboo to mock such relationships for fear of bad luck.
Reproduction : Arcathions reach pubescence around 10 years old then spend much of the next decade in adolescence. A male when wanting to mate with a female, he will make bellowing sound that can reach infrasonic levels at his natural frequency, stimulating egg production in a female accompanied by creating a fluttering sensation in her uterus cavity. The same principle applies to the men, Arcathion women when they perform this act can set off a spasm within a male's prostatic gland, triggering an erection. Once two compatible partners located one another, they proceed to their union and form a steady mating pair.
After the eggs hatch, they retreat to the nearest body of water, preferably a nursery grove where the both the mother and the father are ready to defend their offspring at a moment's notice when given the signal.
Fertilization : Oviparous, females will also occasionally lay unfertilized eggs to distract potential rivals or offer them to their partners.
Gestation : 1 month for gestiation;3 months on average to incubate.
Brooding (Average # of offspring): 3 to 5 during their mating season; 1 to 2 out of the season.
