Kristoffer's Redemption

Chapter 9

It's my life

Kristoffer was having trouble sleeping for his nap, for some reason he just couldn't turn off his mind. He wanted to sleep like he should but he couldn't. Something just didn't feel right to him. He sat up and looked over at his diary on the desk and sighed as he got on his knees and reached his hand through the crib bars and carefully pulled the diary towards him and then he reached for his pen, when he had both his pen and his diary in paw he took the key from around his neck and unlocked the book then he put the key around his neck again, he opened his diary and began writing.

Sunday, October 28th

"Hey diary, how are you? I can't bloody sleep! I have all these thing swimming through my head that won't fade away when I go back to bed. Its aggravating that Shela can take naps like crazy, you just lay her down and boom, she's out like a light. But me. No I have to struggle and stuff. It's so annoying. I wish I could just fall asleep like her. But oh well. Anyway, so I know I've said this already but I'll say again. I got my claws blunted the other day, and it was not fun! But if I have to get my claws blunted to make this whole situation fair for Shela, then so be it. I want to see her graduate before me really. It's not my time. Looking back at the beginning of this, and how life was, I'm glad I'm getting this help. I need it. I know I do and that's a little scary. But ohh well. I'm starting to realize that I'm in a world where everything is give and take, there's no equivalent exchange, and everything is too high for many and too less for most. I guess I've just been too blind to understand. But meh. Not much I can do now. I hope nap time will be over soon. Uh oh I think I hear paws coming. Bye for now.

Kristoffer finished his page, capped his pen, and locked his diary up and set it all back on the desk in record time as Jennifer opened the door and came in. "Wake up pup. Nap times over." She said shaking him gently making him roll over. "Thank the heavens!" he said as he sat up making Jennifer laugh. "Aww did you not sleep good?" "Sleep? What sleep? I couldn't sleep at all!" the pup complained as Jennifer lifted him from the crib and set him on his feet. "Ohh well I'm sorry to hear that. Blaze is out getting dinner and I have some paper work to do. You can go and play with Shela in the playroom. Aright?" Jennifer said to which Kristoffer gave an affirmative nod and the headed to the playroom to play with his sister.

Shela was playing with a model train set when Kristoffer entered the playroom. He smiled and walked over to her and sat down to watch. And after some time she looked up and seemed to finally notice him. "You want to help?" she asked with a lisp past her pacifier, since her and Kristoffer had bonded she seemed to be taking her whole situation much better than had been thought by any one, her self-included. "Sure. Can I have some tracks?" Shela smiled and handed him a handful of track pieces and Kristoffer began laying them out. Kristoffer and Shela worked on the train set for what seemed like minutes rather than hours. Blaze came into the room to announce it was supper time and they both smiled and raced each other to the kitchen, Kristoffer lost but only because Jennifer tripped him with her tail in good nature. "So you both know that Halloween is coming up. And you both said you wanted to be a Celtic, and Amazonian warriors." Jennifer stated and Kristoffer and Shela both nodded as Blaze spoon feed them some wet puppy food. The two of them were gaining some baby fat which was to be expects. And both had also already lost all control of their bladder and bowels and now were diaper dependent. But they didn't seem to mind too much. They had learned that it was a necessary loss and was something that with some work they could get back. Yes, they were regressing just as they needed. But it was almost time to put that final push on them both.

"So we have a deal to make you both." Jennifer said as she picked up two brown paper sacks with rope like sting handles and set them on the table for the cubs to see. Kristoffer and Shela looked at each other then looked back at Jennifer. "What deal?" they both asked in unison making Jennifer smile. "Thing is. Do either of you even know how long you have been in our care? We all know time fly's by when you're having fun, and you two have had a lot of ups and downs, but do you know how long you have been here? Getting better?" they both pondered this a while and Shela opened her mouth to say something but Kristoffer put her pacifier in her mouth before she could say something, erecting a startled yip from the wolf while Kristoffer looked at Jennifer with a very serious look on his face. "What happens if we have lost track of time? What happens if we don't know how long we have been here?" he asked his caretaker sternly letting Jennifer know that he had most certainly been learning much more than she thought. As he wasn't playing a game now he was down to business, the flatness of his tone even startled her a little but she was professional. "If you can't answer than that means that we are doing just what we should. But Kristoffer you're something different. You have been keeping a diary since your 4thnight here. You have documentation that you can refer to if you need too. Shela, on the other paw, does not... so here is my deal. Kristoffer it's come to my attention that you have been acting out. Going out of your way to make sure Shela feels that she is loved. Now this is a good thing for you. But the fact is that it isn't that way in the real world. So I have to ask you to start stepping in for her less. And Shela, I'm glad that you have been confiding in Kristoffer but you need to learn to confide in other people as well. So. That is why I have a proposal." The two of the pups looked at Jennifer with narrowed eyes and even Shela was taking on a business air to her now. "For the next 2 weeks. You two will switch roles. And lives and names. Kristoffer for 2 weeks you will be in Shela's nursery, wearing the same things as her and getting the same treatment as her. Every bit of it. Right down to her nightly ritual. And Shela, you will switch with Kristoffer. Getting his chores, and his nightly ritual." Kristoffer and Shela sat there with their jaws on the high chair trays. They felt like they had been slapped in the face Shela was the first to object. "But that's not right! He doesn't know what my nightly duties are! And I get treatment specific to me! This is not right Jennifer!" she argued helping Kristoffer find his voice too. "Jennifer. No this is not right. Shela's right, this is ridicules! I mean we spent 2 months getting used to how things are now! And then you just drop this bombshell on us? This is not right Jennifer even you know that!" "THAT IS QUITE ENOUGH!" Jennifer and Blaze both barked at the same time effectively silencing the pups. "Now listen. This is just a new test that will last for 2 weeks, no ifs, ands, or buts about it do I make myself clear?" Jennifer stated to a set of nodding pups. "Now after dinner, Shela you will perform your nightly ritual for the last time and you will do it in front of Kristoffer so he sees what needs to be done, Kristoffer that goes for you too." This is where Kristoffer drew a line. "NO!" he barked slamming his paws on the tray of his high chair with a fierce growl looking directly at Jennifer who was taken aback by his sudden outburst and intensity of the objection. "I don't mind sharing and stuff. But you said no one, NO ONE! Will ever read my diary!" Kristoffer said angrily to which Jennifer nodded to Blaze who sighed and pulled something from his pocket and got behind Kristoffer. They soon found out it was a metal cage muzzle design to be snug enough that the wearer couldn't speak or open their mouth but could still suck on bottles or straws. After this Jennifer reached into the bag on Kristoffer's side of the table and pulled out another diary matching Kristoffer's with another key, and a Pink fountain pen that also somewhat matched the one that Kristoffer used on a nightly basis.

"Kristoffer I anticipated that outburst as you can tell from the muzzle and so I went to the expense of getting another diary. But I will hold onto yours and your pen. After two weeks you will be able to write in it again. But the key is yours to keep." upon hearing this Kristoffer had seemed to calm down a bit and nodded in understanding. "now Shela do you have any objections?" the wolf looked at Kristoffer with horror written all over her fact then she looked to Jennifer and shook her head clearly not wanting a muzzle like Kristoffer was now wearing. "Good to know now. as punishment for your outbursts, I was going to give you both treats for dinner for being so good but, now I think I will have you each show each other what your nightly duties are then put you both to bed." Blaze unstrapped them as Jennifer said this and they both nodded and went upstairs to their rooms. "So who goes first, me or you?" Kristoffer asked in an offset tone and Shela sighed and went into his room as if that would answer his question. Once inside the room Kristoffer sighed as he saw Jennifer had already taken his diary and pen. "You sit at this desk here. And you make an entry in your diary every night. Jennifer will wait for you to finish making your entry before she tucks you in." Shela stayed quiet and this puzzled Kristoffer. "Is something wrong?" "What else do I have to do before bed at night?" "Nothing. Just writ in the diary every night that's it." "That's all?" "Yes that's all? Why do you do more?" at this comment Shela hung her head and took Kristoffer's paw and led him to another room, a room he soon realized was Jennifer's. Shela led him into the room and closed the door and then sighed as she looked at the mirror. "I will be better for myself, and those around me" she began to speak to the reflection and almost immediately began to choke up. "I....I know that...That I have....." to night seemed unusually hard for her as she couldn't complete the whole ordeal and instead ran from the room crying, and was brought back in By Jennifer who then closed the door and stood there with them and made her start over. "I will be better for myself and those around me, I know what's at stake, and I know I've let myself down, I'll turn things around whatever it takes. If I'm going to make this work. I have to let others inside....." she began and got decently far before she started to choke up again. "Even though it hurts, I can't hide the broken pieces others need to see. I, I, I will get better for myself. And s, s. "this time. She broke down and didn't stop crying but Jennifer stood there and waited and asked her to simply finish it up so that Kristoffer knew what to say. "And start over. As a better person" she said and sniffled. Then they both looked to Kristoffer and saw that he had begun crying as well and realized that this would be just as hard for him as it was for Shela. "Alright, so Shela you go make your first entry in your diary, Kristoffer, you are to repeat that procedure 3 times, then meet me in the girl's nursery. Alright?" Kristoffer and Shela both nodded numbly and the two girls left the room.

Kristoffer struggled to do his new chore like he should and by the time he was finished he had walked passed what used to be his nursery and seen Shela sitting in the desk with Jason next to her. She was having trouble writing in her diary for some reason. She looked up at him and waved a bit with a sad smile and Kristoffer just looked down and hurried past them but he couldn't hide the fact he was crying, he reached Shela's nursery and wouldn't even look at Jennifer as she got him ready for bed, she changed his diaper and then slipped a purple nightie onto him that read princess across the chest and then tucked him into the crib and left, to help James with Shela who was just finally writing in the diary

Dear diary?

Umm I'm not really sure what I'm doing. But yea. Umm this would be so much easier for me to do if I could see an example but oh well so they said to just write down what my thought of today was. And well today was good up till now. Kristoffer and I have been forced to switch places and lives really. But it's hurting me to see him do something I was told only I would have to do, and it hurt him a lot that he had to do it too. I'm not sure which hurts more. The fact that I don't know what he does all the time or the fact that he was just crying because of something I did. Umm I'm not happy with this outcome either, but umm I guess I just have to make the best of it....geeze it's so aggravating fbecause it's my life, I did it my way and all but still. Any way. I'm tired and confused. Good night diary....maybe this isn't all that bad.

When Shela was done with her diary she locked it up and put the key around her neck. She then had her diaper changed and was put into a blue sleeper with dinosaurs all over it. And tucked in. "Jennifer...is Kristoffer mad at me?" Shela asked looking up at Jennifer with sad eyes. "No baby girl. He's upset with me. But I'm sure he will get over it by tomorrow. Look I'm very proud of you both. You guys are actually taking this a lot better than I thought you would. But lesion close pup, Kristoffer is going to have a very short fuse for a few days because of me. So do your best to tread lightly and don't set him off. Or we make be dealing with Y2K or WWIII alright?" Shela giggled a bit at the references and nodded. "Yes ma'am." And with that Jennifer kissed her head meanwhile Blaze and Kristoffer were talking man to man. "Blaze...what did we do wrong?" "What do you mean?" "I mean why did she do this?" "Well Kristoffer its part of your healing process, it's something you need. It may not seem like it right now but you will look back on this and understand in due time" "yea well what do we do when the days are cold, and the cards all fold, and the saints we see are all made of gold?" Kristoffer asked making blaze chuckle a little bit. "Well then I don't know pup but I'm sure you will find the answer." Blaze said as he tucked Kristoffer in and left the room turning out the lights. And with that the pups were put to bed and their whole world had been turned upside down and inside out.
