The Strange Pokemon in the Wilds Ch. 1
#1 of Strange Pokemon in the Wilds Series
So this will be the first part in a series I am working on which encompeses a pokemon tribe and a humans interaction with them! Most of the series will not really involve any sex tell towards the end, that is assuming I post or do the whole series anyways. For now we'll just see how well it does and how well people like it, so enjoy.
There is so much left on this earth we still don't know anything about, the great mysteries of space and what the moon is, how our planet functions, and what lies deep within the ocean. Lately our industrias world has for the first time truly begun to explore everything this world has to offer us. To think there was an entire continent out there with indigenous people we knew nothing about, and using things as simple as steam to actually make great boats to sale out in the ocean to find these new places with ease. And I was lucky enough to be in the middle of this great age of discovery, though in a different field, pokemon!
And I was on the brink of the biggest research there was on it, or at least one of the biggest. About 3 years ago in college I had read the great book of Mendel's that was what started to truly increase the size of the small field. He had actually moved over to the new western continent over many years and in the mysterious land found the pokemon that lived there were entirely different than our own. The species there were not small and insect like and few in numbers like in the north, in fact he said they were even brighter than the very few species that lived with people in the Far East.
He reported they were not only bigger than most but had intelligence almost close to humans! He even reported in the Hoenn region that they had multiple pokemon intermingled with many human groups, pokemon our size and bigger working alongside them. And naturally like many others I decided to go and see these suppose almost legends myself, but I wasn't going west. I instead went over to the south, in the truly deep forest in hopes of finding my own unique species and findings, perhaps pokemon with a great civilization like our own.
And just as I started getting lost in thought Bruce behind me roughly nudged me and handed me his map. "Hey kid if you keep spacing out like that your never gonna get the courage to actually go there you know." I looked over at him a bit angrily "Oh shut up, stop calling me kid already. I'm old enough to go out on my own now that I'm done with college." Bruce laughed a little bit at me. "That's what all the people like you say, you turn 19 and graduate from college and think you're ready for the world. I've lived a good 50 years more than you yah know; it wouldn't hurt to take my advice some time pipsqueak. Besides you don't even have any muscle on you from being out in the wild, you won't even last 3 days out their yourself."
I was getting pretty sick of Bruce always poking at me like this. "Yah whatever old man, you're lucky that I'm finally leaving today on my journey." Bruce crossed his arms looking at me with his cocky smile as always. "You should enjoy this town a bit more you know, it may be a small crossroads toward the south but it's still got great booze and some pretty women to go out with." I sighed and took a cigarette out from my shirt pocket. "That's the only thing you care about anyways you old pervert, women my age aren't after that white English mustache of yours." I blew out some smoke from my mouth trying to relax a little bit.
The old man said nothing in response and took out his own cigar, lighting it and joining me for a smoke. "You know you'll do great out there kid, you don't need to be so nervous. I've only known you for a couple of months but I know your one of the smart ones, you got a good head on your shoulders and a fitting personality for your young looks." I looked at my hand that was holding a cigarette between my fingers, It seemed I was shaking a little bit, I didn't think my nervousness was that obvious. "Don't go give me pointless compliments like that idiot.. that doesn't mean shit out there." Bruce snickered a little bit. "Oh but it does lad, I told you to respect your elders opinions didn't I."
Bruce took a long smoke from his cigar before continuing on. "I've been here for a good 2 years now, one of the only fools brave enough to try and document some of the pokemon out here. None of them are used to our big societies like the ones in the east here, they know about humans but their few in numbers and tribal. And they all got different personalities and beliefs just like we do; not even mentioning there is a much larger amount of them, more variety and density than in the east and maybe even the west. You sure you think you got the guts to be a contributor to my work kid?"
I threw my cigarette to the ground and grabbed the luggage that was next to the Bruce. "I already told you I'm not backing out old man, I'm gonna find and document all the pokemon out there you didn't get. And when your book is out and your already back in Violet City, I'll still be out here making my own book!" Bruce let out a big snickering laugh in response. "I'll be looking forward to reading it boy, now say goodbye to some of the others before heading out. Oh and don't forget you won't get another chance to meet a young lady before you leave, being by yourself out there is gonna take it's toll." I scoffed a little and ignored Bruce, what the hell was with that guy and always talking about sex all the time. I'll be alone out there but it's not like I can't just take care of myself, I'm not going out there to get freaking laid.
But I did take some of his advice, I didn't need any women but I decided to buy myself a bit more wine before heading out with some of the extra money on me. I had the books on some of the indigenous plants, stocked food, and necessary research materials to be living out in the wilds. Looks like It was finally time, all I had to do now was head ou- "Hey Axel wait a second!" A hand suddenly touched my shoulder, I turned around to see my friend Leon. "Oh Leon hey, uh sorry.. I guess I forgot to say my goodbyes to you hehe." "Oh no It's fine really I know you're in a hurry.. but I wanted to tell you something important before you go." Leon actually had something important to say to me? "Uhm sure, what is it."
Leon looked around suspiciously before talking to me in a semi fearful voice. "You know you need to be weary of some of those pokemon out there. You know I heard they rape any guy or girl that comes into their territory without discrimination!" Seriously? He's just telling me another god damn bullshit tale he heard somewhere. "Is that so..." He nodded furiously at me. "Even with dudes they'll like go into your ass just to get off man! Some of their societies are like totally based around just fucking each other and kidnapping other pokemon and people! Maybe you should wear like a metal protection just in case." "Are you fucking kidding me right now Leon, I'm not gonna take some retarded advice from some dumb tale you heard!"
Leon looked at me a bit nervously "B-But what if it happens.. I mean if a male pokemon is right up there with their junk in your fac-" I groaned loudly at him. "Just shut up already, I don't need the image of that! You should know better than to actually believe all the shit those guys at the bar tell you; in fact they probably only make up that shit just because they know you'll believe it." "Hey that's not true you know! They tell me the truth, sometimes.." I scoffed. "I'm getting away from your dumb ass, jeez.. stopping me just to say that." I immediately turned around from Leon and started to walk away from him. "ah uhm.. have fun on your journey Axel." I responded by putting my hand in the air as I kept walking away from him.
Hours later I had finally exited the village with all the supplies I needed. I had a map and knew how to get back, but the village was nowhere in sight and wouldn't be for over a month. I took a quick look at the map the old man gave me and saw the area's he already covered, It's pretty surprising how much ground he already covered in such a short amount of time. But there was still more left than I could ever do in a life time, for now I decided to check the west side of the more denser lower lands that he hadn't been able to check out yet.
And as I was walking oddly enough I had actually began to think of what Leon said, but not in his dumb way. If I were to think about this logically sense there are pokemon tribes with their own culture out there that would mean they would also have different thoughts on sex as well. Even though the idea of having my way with one for me isn't appealing, it's very possible that they wouldn't really feel the same way.. and I'd definitely need to make sure to document it!
It was in the afternoon as I was lying down on a thick branch on a tree hoping to capture some behaviors of pokemon. While I was waiting I decided to take out some of my notes and Journal to write some thoughts down. "It had been my first 2 weeks out in the wilds, and my first week in the deep uncharted jungles; and so far things were going.. ok, but definitely not as good as I had hoped. Sleeping was very rough with how dark and sometimes loud the wilds could be at night, sounds of so many pokemon from all distances that I could never even hope to see, with only a few glimpses of pokemon that I could barely write notes on.
Food was also hard to forage sense I couldn't carry a real months' worth of food, I had my book about what's ok to eat but it was hard to really find a good fruit or nut spot. But while surviving was proving to be harder I at least had some excellent new data on pokemon in the region. So far I had found a strange looking water type that actually had one extremely gigantic claw over 4x its own body size. I had found a couple grass type pokemon not yet documented as well, one with a gigantic rose on its body to possibly blend into the environment and a similar one with a gigantic mushroom growing as part of its body."
But just as I was busy writing one of my journal entries something big had suddenly appeared out of the corner of my eye. I acted upon my instinct and quickly set down my notes while taking up some binoculars, looking for what may have landed. And after a couple seconds of looking I saw a very up close look of an actual true gigantic pokemon that had flown into the region near some fruit. The spectacle for me was absolutely amazing, the pokemon here I saw were indeed rather large but nothing like this! It was a strange looking green colored pokemon, it looked insect like yet actually had a lot of dragon type traits to it. The only recorded dragon type we even knew about in existence was Dragonite, and one other that was elusive.
It had only been vaguely reported for saving people's life occasionally in the desert, and it fit the vague description I was actually seeing right now! Not red eye's as the description said but something red around the eye's, some sharp looking claws on his hands and the obvious big green and red trimmed wings. But it wasn't some vague description anymore, I was looking at him with real detail and even seeing his mannerisms right before my eyes! It seemed perhaps this type of pokemon was not only in the desert but perhaps the jungle as well.
I knew right away I needed to get some shots in before he left; although I had to be conservative with the photos from the limited amount of film I have. I quickly scrambled to get out my camera with the light attached, and as I started to adjust myself to take the picture, I felt my weight shift a little. I barley understood what happened after the branch suddenly snapped, the whole world quickly blurred out as I felt myself quickly falling down. I barely had time to fathom what just happened before I was hit with a sudden thump to my body, and only seconds after darkness.
My mind was in a blur when I started to wake up. I felt like I had just woken up from a very heavy and painful sleep, like some kind of strange hangover. There were unfamiliar figures around me as I forced my eye's to open up trying to remember what happened. After a couple seconds my memory soon came back to me like a bolt of lightning, and I quickly sat up feeling nervous and looking around quickly. But I seemed safe, my body didn't feel too sore, and I seemed to be somewhere new, with some strange sounds around me. I truly started to take in where I am and looked around, and suddenly I realized the blurs were pokemon... large pokemon right next to me!
I freaked out a little bit backing up against the wall behind me looking around more, the pokemon seemed to back up and give me a bit of space saying something strange in a soothing tone. "W.. Where am I.." I'm not sure why I asked that expecting an answer I would understand, I only got some more strange reassuring words I didn't understand until a strange looking pokemon with a strange hat approached me. He was a purple colored pokemon with a big inflated bulb on his neck.
"You're, in home our." I blinked for a second at what he just said, did this pokemon talk to me!? "I..I'm sorry?" The purple pokemon pointed his finger around the room. "This, our land, runner." So I wasn't just imagining things, there was a pokemon speaking my own language. He didn't know much but he could vaguely speak it. "I.. You.. know.. English?" the pokemon nodded to me. "Me, no translator, tribe north, relations." Tribe north? He surely couldn't mean us right, there was no material on the pokemon here and I was actually one of the few first to even try exploring this area.
But I didn't respond to him, what caught my attention now was the other pokemon I had been ignoring now. There was a big red looking pokemon that I had actually read about in Mendel's book, he called it a Charizard, a very large fearsome fire type. And the 2nd one was actually the possible dragon type I was just looking at not long ago in the woods. As I looked at him the other pokemon went over to him and touched the green dragon pokemon. "This man, saved you. Fell you, came here."
I was still feeling very nervous, anxious, and excited about this whole thing that it was hard to really focus. I felt like I should have thanked him but said something else instead. "Can.. I touch you." The pokemon smiled at me in a way that made me feel like he actually understood my words, I slowly reached my hand toward him as he let me touch his skin.
It was surprisingly smooth even if just a little bit rough, I could also feel his heart pumping and veins flowing blood through his body. It was as if it reminded me this was indeed a live pokemon standing right next to me letting me touch it, without even knowing it I ended up smiling like a big idiot as the atmosphere seemed to change to the others smiling back.
But the atmosphere broke as someone else walked in, the other pokemon seemed to immediately pay attention to him and make room for him. He was another rather big and also slightly wide pokemon, dark purple with a large horn and almost plate like armor around his skin. I momentarily got lost in thought as to where I would categorize such an odd tough looking pokemon. "Sorry I'm late, I came in once I heard he had awoken." The pokemon then quickly turned to look at me. "So.. you are the strange white skinned runner that Kojo had found within our woods." The pokemon suddenly said to me.
If I was having any doubts before about understand pokemon, this completely erased it. There was a pokemon talking in actual fluent English to me, I couldn't wait to document this and tell the old man about this great discovery! I bet it would even bring a lot of criticism to Mendel's work that didn't even mention spoken language. With multiple different thoughts once again going through my head I had forgotten the pokemon was speaking to me. "Runner, I'm trying to ask you why you are here."
I snapped out if quick and nervously answered him back. "U-Uhm I.. I come from far up north in the Johto region! I-I am here because.. I uh.. I want to, learn about your kind." The pokemon seemed rather surprised to be hearing that answer and did a deep hearty laugh. "Oh is that so? My this is a very odd site to behold, a strange white skinned runner in odd clothing plopping from a tree wanting to learn about us? And why are you interested anyways." I needed to be careful with my words here, I felt more like I was in a foreign human tribe then a pokemon one.
"For.. For knowledge, sir. My uh, people are interested in learning more about your world and group. Where I live there are no such people like you.. not nearly as tall or big or.. other things." The pokemon raised an eyebrow at me and started to think to himself. "Very interesting.. Well other than the fact that your white you do not seem nearly as tall or strong as the runners we know in this land.. you are definitely from a very faraway place women." Did he just call me a girl. "Hey wait I'm a male!" I covered my mouth after quickly lashing out though, I probably shouldn't have yelled at him for that.
Luckily he didn't seem offended and only laughed. "quiet surprising, you are so weak and vulnerable, yet another big difference from what we know as runners from the fact someone like you is a.. male. I suppose I can take that as your society isn't looking to gather information from us to fight if someone like you is a warrior. Though you don't have much use to us as a male, it might be a bit easier to consider yourself women if you wish to stay here." What the hell? What was that supposed to mean, I can't change my gender. "But.. I, I don't know how.. I mean I have uh, I can't help really being a female.. I have male genitalia and everything else."
The pokemon looked at me with an almost confused look. "What are you talking about, your sex doesn't make you a female, your place with our people does. Here you will be referred to as a female and will be taken care of by Kojo over here." The pokemon pointed over to the dragon type that saved me, he didn't seem at all surprised to be called upon. "He will help nurse you back to health and fix your broken leg, it will be a temporary marriage."
I felt like I had almost completely misunderstood every single word in his sentence, marriage, broken leg? I actually looked down at my right leg and saw what he meant though, It was completely covered in strong green looking vines that seemed attached to each other with a very strong black adhesive. I could barely feel anything from that leg and could barely really move it, I really did break my leg from that fall. But now that I had that mystery solved, what the hell did he mean by marriage? "You.. want me to marry uh Koje over here?"
"It's Kojo, and of course. He was the one that had saved you and taken you to our village actually asking us to help you as an outsider, and a very strange one we knew nothing of. And seeing as you're a female it would be inappropriate not to have you married to him temporarily, though it is only a formality. You are not expected to stay here after you are healed or provide sexual favors to him." There was obviously a cultural barrier I simply didn't understand that I would have to learn more about later. "Ok.. I understand.."
The pokemon did a quick nod and talked with Kojo for a while, a good minute actually they were conversing about something before the leader turned back to me. "The arrangements are set up now, Kojo here seems to be willing to master your language just to take care of you." Wow, Kojo here seemed to be a very nice pokemon, not that the others didn't seem nice but he sure seemed to go a lot out of his way just to help me. I knew I had to say something to him, so I turned to him hoping to actually get to know him more. "Uhm, thank you for saving me by the way. I guess we'll be living together for a while, though my broken leg may be a bit of a burden." The pokemon seemed to mostly understand what I was saying and tried his best to talk back. "Y-You.. are welcome, I hope.. to get to know more of you."
Really thinking about it it was quiet baffling being in such a strange distant place where pokemon here seemed to actually know English of all languages, it left me with many other questions piled on top of one another that I still had no answers too. "By the way runner, what can we call you?" I looked over back at the pokemon "Oh please Just call me by my name Axel, and not just runner. And just as a note, our species are actually referred to as humans." "Hmm humans then? I suppose sense your different from the runners up north we can call you a human if you wish."
"Now I think it's time you stop staying cooped up in here and we show you the village." That's right I forgot there were probably many more pokemon here to meet other than these few, I'm gonna have to come up with a name for their species so I don't just keep calling them "pokemon". Kojo to the right of me seemed to immediately help me to my feet and held me up so that I had one leg on the floor. "O-Oh thank you."
He helped me walk outside as the curtains were opened and I was blinded by light for a second. As my eye's adjusted to what was going on, I was struck by a sudden awe at where I actually was. This was no ordinary small tribe or band of pokemon, this was a gigantic one from which the likes nobody had ever seen! There was large and vast looking area around the tree I came from, and it seemed to be filled with a large variety of other tree's and easily half a thousand pokemon walking around from all shapes and sizes.
The tree's that filled up this seemingly vast spaced area were neatly placed and organized and carved out to be some type of house, all with their own unique flare. Most seemed to be houses but there was an area far off in the distance that seemed to have a dense amount of people and buildings made of wood that could possibly be some type of market. All the hundreds upon hundreds of pokemon walking around here had a very large yet semi similar diversity in the fact that while their wasn't 500 different species, there was easily a good mix of 100 or so with most of them not being anything he's identified from descriptions or drawings.
The pokemon helping me had to hold me back from trying to run and fall on my face from everything that was going on, I was so excited that I had forgotten I had a broken leg. I wanted to talk to every pokemon I meet, to run around and see all the houses, how they were carved, what type of society this was, I wanted to know everything. The pokemon around me seemed to be laughing and smiling a bit at seeing how eager and happy I seemed to be. "I can see you've never quiet seen anything like this before Axel, I think with that type of excitement you should be able to adjust to our way of living."
The pokemon holding me gave me a little pull back toward him. "Easy Axel, try and relax." I eased down a little bit remembering that I actually had a broken leg. I also noticed Kojo here said an actual full sentence with that statement, for some reason it kind of gave me comfort sense I felt like I could actually hear his personality from that full statement. "You know Kojo you don't seem too bad at English, that was actually pretty good!"
Kojo giggled a little bit and did a wide smile. "Thanks!" This pokemon had such a strange warmth to him, he had a feeling that our personalities would click pretty well and that besides the chief here he would be a great informant. Though there was still a lot to learn about him, and this society, it would definitely take longer than a one month trip to accomplish.
I had decided to refer to the chief here as a Nidoking for his very large stature and obvious leadership skills; and at the moment he was starting to show me a little bit around the town. Before continuing on though the chief actually gave me something similar to a crutch, a sturdy like bamboo one that was not really as good as a normal crutch, but made it so Kojo wasn't just carrying me everywhere. The more area's I travelled to the more I truly understood the population of this "tribe".
Based off my guesses so far there had to be at least a good 2000-3000 pokemon living in this place with how much density and different area's there seemed to be. The chief actually took me to the market place and I got to see all the kinds of trading goods they used, mostly it was a mix of different fruits and food, but also had a lot of materials they seemed to make on their own like the strong vine like rope, cloth bags and other basic tools. He told me a bit about the small stratification of their society that seemed to mainly be just the warrior class and the slightly higher status planning class that was in charge things like lay out, architecture, officials in office, and politics much like the chief here.
The only thing that made me kind of nervous though was all the stares I was getting during this whole thing. It was becoming painfully obvious that I was indeed seen as an outsider to a certain extent, there may be a lot of pokemon variety here but there were no humans here and I was probably very different from what they know of some type of human tribe around here. Only after an hour my small and equally small informational tour seemed to be over, it was disappointing but it's obvious the chief here has better things to do than guide a broken legged human around town.
"Do not worry too much about the other pokemon here Axel, get to know people and our town and they will be used to you. Now I must attend a meeting in our obashu, from now on Kojo will be the one to help you for the most part." And with that last statement the chief swiftly turn around and walked off somewhere, seemingly in a bit of a hurry. I sighed a little bit, I didn't even get to ask him that many questions.
And suddenly Kojo seemed to actually pick up my entire body with ease and hold me in the air. "W-Whoa hey man what are you doing!" The pokemon looked down at me with that smile of his. "Don't need that bamboo, I take you" This pokemon was seriously being almost too nice, It made me wonder if it's actually how the pokemon here acted when first meeting people they want to make friends with or just his personality. "Kojo you know you really don't need to go this far or anything, I'm fine with the bamboo sticks." Kojo shook his head at me. "No, you're way to slow, this faster." I sighed a little bit. "Fine have it your way, but just so you know this whole things feels really awkward when you have others staring at me."
I wasn't sure Kojo understood much of that sentence but he didn't seem to care and suddenly started to actually fly up in the air! It wasn't exceptionally high but it was enough to freak me out, I clutched onto his body like at any second I was gonna just fall down. "Y-You're going to fast!" Kojo continued to ignore me and he swiftly kept flying and holding onto me as I got a bit more used to what was happening. I eventually opened up my eyes and started to look down at the city, It was no Goldenroo city but was still exceptionally large for any type of previous known pokemon tribe. In fact I couldn't use the word tribe for it anymore, this was a full on chiefdom!
As I looked around a bit more at the city from above It actually gave me a very good idea of the map I would need to eventually make for this type of place, I could see most of the area's I had visited that were mainly just different houses or professions aside from the dense market area, but also new area's that I was still very unfamiliar with. And just as quick as it had started Kojo had started to quickly descend, he neatly landed near a tree house that was presumably Kojo's. It was actually quite a bit larger than most of the ones I had seen earlier, along with the fact the other tree's here were also overall larger and thicker than the others, was Kojo perhaps a part of the planning class?
Kojo kept quiet as he continued to easily carry me despite how small his arms are and went inside the house, he carefully put me down on what seemed to be like some type of couch. When I looked around I was once again quiet shocked at the strange mix of modernity and tribal culture that seemed to be here. Most everything was made out of unprocessed woods, vines, a lot of cloth and even some silk. I seemed to be sitting on a semi cushiony sofa that I would almost expect to find in my own room; there was a small table that seemed more like you sat on the floor at, and handmade carpet around certain spots of the place.
Kojo than seemed to appear out of a different room while I was looking around with all my stuff, I quickly took it from him and looked inside. All my food, notes, pencils, and so on were lucky for me still there and I breathed out a big sigh of relief. "Thank you for keeping this stuff, Oh man I'm so glad it's ok.. I wasn't even thinking about where it might have actually been lost until now." It seemed like I was forgetting a lot of things with this entire unfamiliar situation really. Kojo simply smiled again at me. "I'm going create.. uh to make, food now." Was all Kojo said to me before heading off into what seemed like some type of kitchen.
It looked like a semi enclosed area with a small fire and multiple different "pots" made from some kind of strange wood that grew around here. He put some water in the wood like bowl followed by some pokemon meat and vegetables as he started the fire. "Uh Kojo.. I noticed you were putting some meat in there." I knew pokemon obviously ate meat from other pokemon just as we do, but I was wondering if they actually ate it from other intelligent pokemon. Kojo nodded his head. "Meat from uh... I-Insects, and sea pokemon, not our own." He almost seemed to chuckle a bit at that last part he mentioned, I guess he got the idea of what I was really asking.
I decided to be pretty quiet for the most part as he needed to take a while to prepare dinner, I wanted to save all my questions for the during and after part. Currently I just relaxed a bit really taking in and assessing the situation I was in, regardless of what happened to my leg this was still work I was getting paid to do from the few rich people that actually even care about pokemon. I'd start by talking to Kojo here sense I would obviously one be living with him, but more than that having a good friend that you actually click with in a foreign society is always good and important to have.
Not too soon later Kojo seemed to set the food down over towards me and set his own food in front of himself. He didn't seem to have any tools to eat it with though and ate the meat with his hands, though luckily I brought my own fork and knife and took them out of the bag. "Don't worry Kojo this is just what my people eat with." Kojo stared at me for a little bit and just nodded a bit as he continued to eat. I took some bites sometimes staring back at him a bit awkwardly, man what the hell was up with this atmosphere.. "Uh Kojo.. you seem really nervous."
Kojo coughed a little bit after swallowing something as I said that and looked down a bit. "S-Sorry.. I uh.. not used to.. women living here, haven't married before.. it's my first marriage, even if temporary." Oh right, I forgot about this whole damn weird thing they had. I think when he said that though it made me also realize that unlike me he didn't see me as another "warrior" but instead the same way I would see perhaps a cute foreign girl suddenly living in my place, although I wouldn't really call myself cute at all. "Look Kojo I sort of.. kind of, know how you feel, but remember its temporary like you said. And Besides you know in my culture I'm actually considered a male." Kojo looked at me rather surprised to hear me say that.
"You, male?" I nodded at him to try and help him feel a bit less odd about this situation. "Yah, I know I don't seem like it but this doesn't need to be as weird as you think. It may be a marriage by your culture, but how I see it it's just two guys hanging out as trying to make friends with each other alright." Kojo didn't really seem to fully understand the guy's part but he seemed to basically get what I was saying. "Sorry.. maybe I overthinking this, I don't like the marriage term... we can become good friends instead." I smiled and nodded at him, I don't think he really fully got what I meant though.
But now that this atmosphere felt a bit better I wanted to ask him some questions as we kept eating. "So Kojo, I have to know something that's been bugging me. Why does everyone here know English so well, even you are actually very good at it." Kojo shook his head. "I pretty bad, many many others more fluent. Much trade and war with the northern runners, so language is necessary. Pokemon here know more than 1 languages, though I no need to know uh.. e-english very well. Warrior unit like me is in South, not North."
How interesting and strange, there was some type of tribe that was probably still in the deep jungles considering where I was that actually spoke English as their primary language, they surely must have contact with our region if that's the case. And I suppose Kojo actually was a warrior class, an upper warrior class that was different than what the chief implied. "Well you don't need to regret it or anything Kojo, you didn't need to know a whole lot of it if you're more in the south then north. But if you don't mind me quickly asking something else, how did you get the knowledge for all this, furniture? Or uhm, house appliances, tables, that sort of thing."
Kojo seemed to understand what I was getting at. "Most we just learn ourselves, however couch you sit on we did not know, we have exchanged ideas with north." I Suppose I was being a bit to presumptuous with thinking they learned all of it from the humans, It's still hard to wrap my head around the idea that these pokemon probably have a very similar intelligence to our own.
After we had finished the meal I had decided to stay at the table and got out a paper and pen. "I promise not to take too long sense I want to observe some of this myself, but you mind if I ask some questions to write down." Kojo blinked and leaned in closer to me and the paper staring it, It made me wonder what those big red bulbs around his eyes were for. "what's that?" "Oh this is called paper, and this a pen. I use it to uhm, write down information. I convert my own language into symbols and figures that we can interpret to.." Kojo seemed to already be having a hard enough time trying to understand my own language much less what writing was. "Uh.. it helps me remember things ok. Now do you mind me asking some questions?" Kojo simply shook his head in response as I began to ask him a few things as the night crawled upon us.
It was a very long and rather fun conversation we had, it started out on a very factual basis. I learned that in his society unlike my own being male or female was indeed 100% social and nothing to do with the actual sex, a strong sex oriented women could actually be a male or warrior that got to usually have a female under her to marry, and a weaker male would marry a strong warrior and provide him or her with both sexual favor and other forms of what they see as female work. I suppose physically I fit the role of female, though I don't think my mind set fits with it in the slightest.
It later turned into more a personal chatting as Kojo told me just a bit about the work he did here. He said he was actually to my surprise one of the what I would call a general, in charge of the south side. Kojo said unlike the north that was much more about trading, the south was much more war like and that they almost always fought for mainly political reasons, a lot of it seeming to tie into witchcraft. He didn't mention much about it but it seemed like this society also had a shaman as one of the other top class levels, I'd have to look into that more while I'm here.
And it got even more personal as he actually talked just a little bit about himself, with a bit of a personality that seemed to be trying to flare out from his broken words. It wasn't strong because of his not great English but I could hear it, he was actually very nice and gentle with me but he definitely had a very strong casual side he hadn't shown much to me yet. A probably semi-fierce personality that put the troops in line while also having a strong fun-loving one when hanging out, most likely he was being extra gentle with me though sense he didn't know me and was just trying to be nice.
Though the other side of why he acted that way seemed to vaguely mention I was seen by him as a vulnerable and weak women because of both my size and Injury, I almost felt insulted. But in the end I really couldn't be, there was no arguing with his culture or the actual physical difference between us. However it was something I actually wanted to amend, I wanted to see if I could try to get him to stop seeing me as a women. Both to get closer to him and get him more open with me I need to show him I'm not just a typical household women that may or may not also be in this society, that I still have some manliness to me.
Night time soon fell upon the whole village as everything became dark and quiet, and the time for getting some sleep. Kojo was insisting to just carry me over to the bedroom but I refused, and instead insisted I follow him on bamboo sticks. The bedroom had a very surprisingly big and modern bed made out of forest materials, and everything else around it seemed fairly basic with only a very strange shaped candle that was more round and carved into. "You can sleep here, I'll be in living room if you need me." I turned around toward Kojo. "The living room? You mean you're just giving me your bedroom.. you really don't need to do that you know."
"You have a broken leg, and need rest. It's inappropriate to be with you." I sighed a little bit. "Stop with that shit already man.. I know you see me as a women or whatever but I told you where I'm from I'm a man. I may not be as manly as you or the warriors, but I don't consider myself a damn house wife.." Kojo definitely seemed slightly taken back about how assertive I was finally sounding to him, he could tell I was really starting to express myself. "Yah.. I admit I'm not as strong as you and stuff, but I'm not a pussy alright. And I'm.. sorry for saying it quiet like that, sense I know we don't know each other that well.. I want to be nice, but I need to show you who I am as well."
Kojo stared at me for a bit while staying relatively silent, It was hard to tell what he was thinking. He eventually did a little bit of a bow toward me though. "I'm sorry, you have shown me that you are.. not all you look. you are still a women, yet somehow fiery, and not like other women." He did a little smile toward me. I'm glad he seemed to partially understand it, but I really wanted to buffer away as much as I could from the "women" title.
"I want you to truly understand what I mean by that though, any taboo of men and women are whatever I want to solve right now.. I want you to sleep in the same bed as me." Kojo didn't seem to fully get what my first part of the sentence meant but he definitely understood the last one and seemed to actually blush a little. "S-Sleep? In Same bad? I don't know." I quickly in response to him grabbed onto his shoulder; But it wasn't a gentle grab, it was a quick and strong grab, something I would do when I wanted to reassure my friends. I gave him a bit of a cheeky smile showing my confidence.
"Didn't I tell you Kojo, I'm not as womanly as you've classified me, you judge too much on physical appearance." I also duly noted that I would probably need to look more into what it really means here to be a "man or women". Kojo after not too long responded a lot less awkwardly and weirdly, he put an even stronger grip on my own shoulder that was actually fairly painful, I really don't have shit worth for muscles. "It's hard to get.. but I get better, Axel. It strange, you are like a woman still... but yet strong, akin to a man. I Will treat you with more respect and, less distance."
I did a big smile at him as he understood enough of it for now, I suppose this meant that I didn't fully fit into their social sphere though. It was much like how a strong willed woman probably has no real place in our society, it was a strange feeling thinking of myself as such. We didn't say much more to each other after that and both got in the same bed, with me on the left side and him on the right. There was plenty of room for both of us with how huge the bed was, and although I could tell he was still indeed uncomfortable doing this I made sure to show him through body language that it was very casual.
After not too long his body relaxed more as he started falling into a deep sleep, me alongside him. More had happened in just the 1 day I've spent here compared to the whole 2 weeks trip I had so far, It was hard to keep my thoughts organized. I wondered to myself what new things I would learn about tomorrow before my own body finally relaxed and I dozed off into sleep.
