PART 9: Life can be Cruel
Unaware of the events that were unfolding at the time, Drake sat down in the living room where he could talk with Jamie and Max. Part of him was curious about why Troy booked a table at a restaurant, but whatever it was he hoped the feline wouldn't do anything too stupid or get himself into trouble in the process.
Sitting on the couch, the dragon decided just to wait and see what his boyfriend had planned. However, he thought about his computer in his room and he remembered something. [Well, maybe I can work more on it. I haven't even finished the first one yet.] The dragon thought. Hearing Jamie and Max laugh, he looked at them and wondered what was going on. Max had his art pad and he noticed the now all too familiar "Black Page". Getting curious, he moved closer to the two and asked.
"What are you two doing?"
"Nothing really." Max said giving a wide smile.
"Well, it looks like something."
"Show him." Max felt a nudge on his shoulder and after seeing the smile on Jamie's face, he agreed. Handing Drake the book, the dragon's eyes widened at the sight of the art.
"Well?" Max asked.
"Wow. If Troy came home looking like that. . .hell, I'd be horny as fuck!" As he stared at Max's drawing, he felt his crotch warm. It was a drawing of Troy as a hyper with his muscles and well, pretty much everything. . .to put it short words, he was freaking huge. Max had also done the panther holding his giant cock with a large amount of pre seeping from the tip.
"Well?" Max asked again.
"Amazing. Did you ask Troy?"
"No. I want to show him later. I just finished them last night."
"Them? There's more?" Max nodded and the dragon went further through the book. It was a series of different styles, one after the other. Max himself as a hyper, Jamie and then Drake. Even an orgy of the four as hyper's. The next group of art was stuff that were two on one, one of Drake's favourites being a very muscled version of himself dominating Troy who was sucking off a very big Jamie. Deciding that it was enough, Drake handed back the book to the feline and stood up to quickly adjust himself.
"You like them Drake?"
"Yeah. Man, the things that go through your head Max." Max giggled a little and a thought appeared in Drake's mind. "Hey, how come you two still haven't put back up the framed one of you two?"
They both knew what he meant. Jamie and Max still hadn't put up the framed drawing that was in their room. "We think its best left in the closet. Its sorta becoming our little, how can I say it. . .well, our personal stuff. Plus I think mom and dad thought it was too much." Max nodded in agreement and the dragon just shrugged his shoulders. The cubs could do what they decided, it was their relationship after all.
As minutes ticked by, Drake had began to watch T.V, even though he wasn't really paying attention to it much. Usually, he'd be doing something with Troy and the dragon could only wonder what was going on. The panther said he wasn't allowed to eat anything and although he knew they were going to a restaurant, he could only wonder where the panther would take him.
Leaning back, Drake was starting to get bored. Yawning, the blue dragon stretched and looked back at the T.V screen, but he still wasn't interested. His boredom was shattered however when he heard the phone ring, but it was the house phone, so chances were that it wouldn't be Troy. Going back to what he was doing which was pretty much nothing, he decided to wait for time to pass.
In the hallway however, Aaron had picked up the cordless phone and was wondering what to say.
"James, is he alright?. . . .oh god. . .Drake is not going to take this well. . . . . . .I know. I'll tell him, chances are there will be nothing I can do to stop him. . . . .Right. . . .yeah, we'll see you later. Bye."
Placing the phone down on the table, Aaron covered his eyes. This was not going to go well, but it needed to be done. Looking into the living room, he saw Jamie and Max were there, should he have told all three of them? No, better it be Drake first.
"Drake?"
Turning his head, the dragon looked at his father. "Yeah dad?"
"You er. . .better come here. I have something to tell you. . ." Drake wasn't sure what his father was talking about but he could soon see the worry in his father's eyes. Getting up, he walked into the kitchen, but he could hear his father talking to the two younger teenagers. "I'll tell you two later."
"Okay dad."
Closing the door, Aaron sat down at the table and told Drake that it was best he took a seat. Looking at his father for an answer as to why he wanted to talk in private, he saw that Aaron was struggling to come up with words.
"Dad, what's wrong?"
"Drake. . .-sigh-. . .I have some bad news. Its about. . . .Troy."
"What? I-Is something wrong?" Drake immediately grew worried, he was hoping his panther wouldn't be in any trouble, but it seemed he was.
"Drake, I got a call off James. Troy's been. . .Troy's been in accident."
"What?"
"He was in a car accident. He's in the hospital." At the end of those words, it felt like the entire world around Drake had shattered. Instantly, his body started shaking and he had to ask.
"I-Is he. . .okay?" Tears were now forming in his eyes, but he was trying his best not to break down and cry in front of his father. On top of that, he could feel a lump in his throat growing, making it even worse.
"He's in the emergency room now. James and Emma are at the hospital."
"You mean. . .my kitten is. . .are you sure?" Drake didn't want to believe it, the fact that his boyfriend could be hurt or worse was getting to him. All these different scenario's were playing through his head of how his panther could get hurt. He tried to get rid of the thoughts, but it was a futile effort.
"I am sure. All I know is he's hurt badly and he's in the emergency room, that's all."
"No. . ." Getting up from the table, Drake walked into the hallway and leaned against the wall. Standing up, Aaron could hear his son beginning to cry, but Drake looked back at him. ". . .p-please tell me. . .you're joking. . ." Wiping his eyes, he tried to smile at his dad. ". . .W-We were supposed. . .-sniff-. . .to be going. . .out tonight. . ."
"Drake."
"Just tell me you're joking!" He shouted those words, but it only caused more tears to run down his face.
"I can take you to the-"
Cutting his father off, Drake ran out the door and immediately took off from the ground and started flying in the direction of the hospital. Back at the house, Aaron watched his son fly further away and he soon heard the two cubs behind him.
"Dad?"
"In the living room." Shutting the door, the black scaled dragon hoped the two cubs would take it better than Drake did.
Landing at the hospital, Drake looked about for any signs of his panther. He was dreading that he may have to set foot inside the building but he moved onward, trying to wipe away any visible tears. Many furs were around him, nurses, patients and visitors but only Troy was on the only person on dragon's mind.
"Drake." Feeling a paw on his shoulder, he turned to see James looking at him. "You better sit down."
"Where's Troy?"
"Come on."
Following the panther through the hospital, Drake wondered if Troy really was here. Hoping that he was right, he stopped and spoke to James. "Please tell me this isn't real. Just say Troy's at home."
Turning, he hugged the distressed dragon and replied. "I wish I could say that Drake, but. . .when he's out of the emergency room, you can see him."
As the embrace was broken, Drake just followed. He didn't cry, nor did he want to. He didn't want everyone to see him like that. Looking forward, he saw Emma sitting down in one of the chairs. Hearing the footsteps, she turned and as she saw Drake, she went up and hugged him.
"Are you okay Drake?"
". . .Yeah. . . .just. . .how is he?"
"We don't know yet. He's still in the room. Why don't you take a seat?"
Before he did, he looked around himself, not too far away was a no entry point for visitors. The closer he looked into one of the rooms, he saw furs moving around. Trying to turn away from the sight, he forced himself to sit down.
[Please. . .just be okay. . .or I'll never forgive you!]
As time passed for them in the hospital, both James and Emma noticed Drake had became a lot more quiet and worried. At one point, James offered to take him to the cafto get something to eat, but the dragon just shook his head. The whole time, he just looked at the floor, any tears that escaped hit the ground and despite the efforts of the older two panthers, Drake remained unchanged.
"James."
"Aaron." Seeing the black dragon, they talked about Troy's condition first but James changed the conversation. "Aaron, I'm worried about Drake. Ever since he arrived he's barely said anything, I cant get him to eat and he wont talk to anyone." Looking at the blue dragon, Aaron saw his son with his knees close to his face and trembling slightly.
"He's worried about Troy, and those thoughts going through his head wont be helping. Jamie, Max?"
"Yeah?" The two cubs had been sitting down talking to each other but had stopped when they heard Aaron speak.
"Can you two talk to Drake? Just try keeping his mood up."
"Sure." Getting out of their seats, the two cubs walked towards Drake and Jamie placed his paw on his brother's arm.
"Drake?"
". . . . ."
"Come on Drake, say something, please?" Max asked him. Drake didn't reply, instead, he looked away from the floor and looked at the two younger teenagers before closing his eyes.
"Drake. . . .Drake please don't block us out. We're worried about Troy too and-"
"Jamie." Drake moved his head up and focused his eyes on the young fox. "Why Jamie?"
"Huh?" When the fox looked right into the dragon's eyes, Jamie could see they were full of fear and worry.
"Why. . . Jamie. . .we were just getting our lives back to normal. . .and then this fucking happens! What if. . .he-"
"Shut up." Looking at the snow leopard, Drake moved slightly away from the feline.
"Max."
"He wont. So don't you fucking dare talk like that." Even though the feline kept his voice low, the dragon took the words in. However, before another word was spoken, Drake returned to his previous position. For the next half hour, both of them tried snapping Drake out of his own thoughts, but all were unsuccessful, but Jamie tried one last attempt to get the dragon out of his daze.
"Drake. You know what Troy's like. He's tough and small things like this wont stop him. He'll be on his feet before you know it."
". . . . . ." The blue dragon didn't respond, instead he just stared into nothingness. Every voice around him meant nothing, even Jamie's. His mind only focused on his panther, was he okay? How injured was he? Would he. . .survive?
Away from Drake, a man had walked down the hallway and approached James and Emma. "Mr and Mrs Creswell?"
"Yes?"
"I'm Dr. Martin. I have some news concerning your son Troy."
"What?" Drake said quietly. He looked up and focused on the man in front of Troy's parents. He was a ferret and with the mention of Troy's name, the dragon looked at him.
"Is he alright?" Emma asked. She was holding her husband tightly.
"He's alive, yes."
"Oh thank goodness."
"However, he's in a bit of a bad state. We had to remove the glass from the windshield that was in his face and had to put a few stitches in. His left arm is broken but that was the worst injury he sustained. But Im afraid he might not wake for a few hours."
Both the adult panthers and everyone else seemed to be at a loss for words, but Emma spoke up. "So. . .we can see him?"
"Certainly. Just be careful, he'll be sore."
"We will and-" Emma stopped, she looked at the blue dragon and then spoke to her husband. After a minute of whispering, James nodded. Facing the dragon, Emma spoke again. "Drake? Do you want to see him first?"
". . . .can. . .can I?" He looked at them, with a there was still no smile on his face, only worry.
Receiving a nod off them, Drake walked forward and followed the ferret into the room. As soon as the doors were open, Drake stepped inside and he heard the door shut behind him. It was the first look he had at his boyfriend and it nearly made him collapse to the floor.
"Troy. . ." Gathering the strength to walk to the panther, Drake only focused on the unconscious feline in the bed. All the hospital equipment around the room didn't mean anything. Nothing else did. Only his panther. "Troy. Troy." Rubbing the side of his panther's face gently, the dragon smiled weakly. Tears were forming in his eyes and as he felt each of the stitches against his scaly hand, he trembled slightly. Leaning down, Drake hugged his panther, careful not to do anything that may hurt him. At that instant, he just let all of his tears escape.
"W-Why?. . .-sniff-. . .what d-did you. . .-sob-. . .do to deserve this. . .why?"
He wasn't sure how long he was there for, but as he felt a paw on him, he looked and saw Jamie smiling at him. "Hi."
"Jamie?"
"You could use some company."
"Jamie please."
"Drake, you'll feel better later on." Feeling Jamie pull him out of the room, Drake didn't resist, he just couldn't understand why the fox was taking him away from Troy. Turning his head, the dragon looked at his panther until he vanished from sight.
Hours had passed and the family were back at home. Drake hadn't said a word since leaving the hospital and all he wanted to know was why he was taken away from his boyfriend when he should be at his side. Right now, the dragon was in bed, surrounded by the darkness of his room. He still hadn't eaten but food was the last thing on his mind.
Downstairs, Lily walked back into the living room and sat down. "Well, Cam knows now. But she cant come down for another week or so. She has an exam she cant miss. Even though she wanted to come home."
"She'll come after that then." Aaron said.
"But. . .what about Drake? I don't think we should have taken him away from Troy like that." In truth, the young fox felt terrible for pulling Drake away from Troy. But he was told it would be for the best.
"Jamie, he cant stay there all night. I know Troy means the world to him but Emma and James need to see their son too. And that other driver was there, so I doubt Drake would have been pleased to see him."
"I'm just worried about him mom. He went upstairs and he still hast come down."
Looking to her husband, Lily looked for an answer. Sighing, Aaron looked at the two younger teenagers in front of him. "Well, you two keep an eye on him. You are all close after all."
"Okay."
Back upstairs, Drake had his cell in his hand. The screen had his boyfriend's number up and as he looked at it, the dragon pressed dial and placed the phone near his ear. Nothing, not even the sound of the ringing. Putting the phone away, Drake pulled the covers back over him and waited. Part of him believed that his panther would call, or walk into his room at any moment while another part of him thought that this was all a dream. He simply didn't want to accept the fact that this had happened and that Troy may be taken away from him.
"Drake?" For a second, the dragon thought it might have been Troy, but he knew better and who the actually voice belonged to. Without giving an answer, he heard his door open followed by two sets of footsteps. He then noticed that they had both climbed into his bed and he felt their warm fur against his scales. However, it only made the dragon recall the loving embrace of his boyfriend.
"Please say something."
". . . ." He was still silent, but his eyes were soon looking directly into his little brother's eyes.
"Drake. Come on. Don't block us out."
"Tell me it isn't real. Tell me it didn't happen."
"It did happen Drake. And we cant do anything about that." The dragon looked away from the fox but Jamie grabbed his brother's face and forced the dragon to look at him. "Don't block me out. Drake we are here for you."
". . . . ." While he didn't say anything, Drake pulled his little brother close and closed his eyes. Max cuddled the dragon from behind and saw his boyfriend smiling at him. The two of them were prepared to stay all night with the dragon and they slowly allowed themselves to sleep. Or rather, just Jamie and Max. Midnight arrived and Drake wasn't even in the bed, he walked out into the hallway and he just sat at the stairs. The front door was in sight and he just waited for his panther to appear.
The next morning though, Jamie and Max were in the kitchen eating their breakfast. Aaron said he'd take them all before going to work. Lily appeared and Drake was close behind.
"Do you feel better now Drake?"
". . .no."
"Well, just eat something." Placing some bacon and eggs in front of her son, Lily gave him a smile, hoping this would be enough to make him a bit more lively. It had been a bit of an effort to convince Drake to get out of bed and then shower, but she managed it.
Staring at the food in front of him, Drake shook his head and pushed the plate away. "I'm sorry mom. . . .I'm just not hungry." Getting up from the table, Drake made his way into the living room, trying to keep himself from crying.
"Oh Drake. You know, I found him at the stairs last night." Lily said to the other three.
"What was he doing there?" Aaron looked for any type of answer from his wife and she gave it.
"Waiting for Troy. I don't blame him. Those two are inseparable, much like you two." She looked at Jamie and Max but the two just held each other's paws tightly.
"Well, I better take you lot to school." Folding the newspaper, the large male dragon stood up and gave his wife a kiss. "Come on you two, I'll get your brother."
"Aaron? I'll be phoning Emma later, hopefully Troy will be alright and Drake can go see him."
"Good idea. Right come on then." Walking into the hallway, Aaron turned into the living room and shortly returned with Drake. Getting into the car, Aaron drove off with the three and decided to spark a least a little conversation that could break the silence. "Well, I cant pick you three up, I wont be finished until after five."
"Where is it you work Aaron?" Max asked. Even though he had been living with them for a while now, he still didn't know what kind of job the black scaled dragon had.
"Oh, I work at World Nine. It's a worldwide business company. Pays quite good. But are you three going to walk home?"
"Me and Max will be okay dad."
"I don't know. . .couldn't you get the bus?"
"We don't have passes. And I used to always walk back to the. . ." Jamie didn't want to say the next word. He had actually forgotten about the orphanage and was now beginning to wish he hadn't said it. But he didn't want Aaron to worry about him and Max while he was busy at work.
Knowing his son wouldn't finish the sentence, he sighed and then agreed. "Alright then. Just be careful."
"We will." When they arrived at the school, Jamie and Max got out of the car and after waving goodbye, the two started to walk into the building.
Looking at the ground, Jamie spoke. "You know, I'm still worried about Drake."
"Me too. But Troy will be okay."
"Yeah. But. . .I don't know what I'd do if that happened to you Max."
"Nothing will happen to me or you."
"I just hope nothing happens to Drake though, Im worried about him."
Back in the car, Aaron had pulled up next to Drake's school, but he looked at his son before he got out. "Drake. Your mother and I are concerned about you. Troy will be fine later, okay?"
"Bye." Drake got out of the car and started walking into the building. Hearing his father drive off, he prepared himself for anything that would come at him.
Days had gone by, six to be exact. It was once again Tuesday, a week since the accident happened and Drake was putting his clothes on. Looking in front of a mirror, the dragon hardly recognised his reflection. The once shiny blue sheen on his scales had vanished, muscles were weakening and he could easily see how much weight he had lost. But anything that had happened to him didn't matter.
He remembered when he came home that day, asking if Troy had phoned. He didn't want to hear that his panther was still unconscious. He had then been visiting the feline when he could, school even seemed pointless, he even felt like ditching it just to be near Troy. However, for Drake, he felt like part of him had been ripped away after that last visit. He could only recall the doctors words when he last visited Troy, over and over again in his mind.
". . .my only explanation is that your son is in a coma. . . .I'm unsure as to when he'll wake up, the good news is that his wounds are healing nicely and in a few weeks he wont need that cast on his arm. . . . ."
Grabbing his shirt, he put it on and looked at himself. Even if he was healing, why wasn't he waking up? He should have, or so the dragon thought, or rather wanted. Slowly, Drake made his way out of his room and downstairs, but there was something different about this morning. Looking into the kitchen, he spotted a plate for him at the table. Drake walked in and felt sick when the smell the scent of the food filled his nostrils. The sight just made it worse, but his stomach only complained slightly. Taking his attention away from the food, he looked around the room, his parents, Jamie and Max just sitting there, facing him.
"Drake, please, we are getting really worried about you." He saw his mom who was clearly distressed and she was almost begging her son to do what she asked next. "But will please just eat something. I don't need you starving yourself to death."
"I. . . I'm not hungry."
"Drake, you've barely had anything at all. I don't want you going into the hospital as well." It was a fear all of them had. About a week ago, after his visit to the hospital, Drake had gradually stopped eating. They all knew what the problem was but any attempts to make the dragon eat a full meal were unsuccessful. There was only certain times Drake would eat anything, and his body was already starting to show the signs of it, no matter how well he covered himself in his clothes.
"I'm not hungry. . . . .I'm sorry."
"Drake." Turning his head slightly, he saw his kit brother looking at him. The fox was almost on the verge of tears. In truth, he had been worried about his brother for a while now. He kept offering comfort, food, just about anything he could think of that could make a difference. "Drake please."
"I'm sorry, but I'm not hungry. I need to get to school anyway." Walking about, Jamie looked down while Max hugged him.
"I'll keep it warm for Drake." Lily said as she picked the plate up. "Don't worry Jamie, your brother will come round."
"Yeah."
It was the same routine as usual. Aaron had dropped the two cubs off and as he continued on to Drake's school, he spoke in another attempt to change his son.
"Drake, before you go, I want you to know that your mother and I, Jamie and Max, we all love you. We don't want you to end up in hospital. Just. . .why don't you take the day off, eat something and then see Troy."
"I'm sorry dad."
"You've been saying that far too much." Seeing his son get out the car, Aaron watched him walk away. He still found it worrying that his son had the energy to walk even though he had barely eaten anything the past week. Driving off, he only hoped that when Cam arrived, she could sort him out, or wait for Troy to call.
Inside the school building, Drake was at his usual seat, feeling more isolated than ever. Other students in the school, his teachers, they all grew concerned about Drake's deteriorating condition. Two days ago, his favourite teacher, Mrs. Chambers who taught English, had taken Drake aside one lunch break to talk with him. But even her words didn't help. They all knew what happened to Troy though, and many offered their support, but Drake just wanted solitude.
"Drake?" Looking to the voice, he saw a few furs, three girls and a guy standing next to him. One of them, Sarah, a rabbit, stood forward and handed him an envelope. "It's for Troy. Everyone's signed it, we're all worried about him too."
"Thanks."
"Do you want to hang around with us Drake?"
"No thanks, I'm fine."
Reluctantly, the four of them headed back to their seats before the teacher arrived. It was History class first and Drake couldn't care less about anything that his teacher had to say. Even when the teacher asked him a question, Drake just replied that he didn't know.
Though time had passed, the dragon found himself alone. There were plenty of other furs around him, but never before had he had such a feeling of isolation like this. It was like Troy was everything he knew, and him not being with him, it just wasn't right.
"Hey there Drake." Upon hearing that voice, reality settled back in. He knew whose voice it was and it only made the dragon's blood boil. When he turned, all he saw was that badger and his little gang. "How's Troy?"
"You don't even care." Already, a few people were stopping, watching the two.
"Yeah, you're right. I don't care. In fact, I hope he stay's in that hospital."
"John don't be such a bastard." It was a person from the crowd who spoke, but John brushed it aside and Drake didn't even take any notice. By now, already a large crowd were watching the two.
"I heard he's in a coma. Shame really, he'd be better off dead." Clenching his fist, Drake started snarling at the badger. It wasn't just this that was setting him off, past events of what John did to make himself and Troy miserable were coming back to him.
"John don't push it." One of the crowd said, but once again, the voice was ignored.
"But that would be a good thing. It's actually disappointing that you weren't in the car, personally I think that would have done the world a favour if you both died. But I suppose when that faggot cat stops breathing, I think we should throw a party."
"You're sick." It was another person from the crowd, but after a look from John's small gang, the voice was silenced.
Seeing the dragon trembling, John smiled. Drake was looking at the ground and as he slowly looked up, all that was seen on his face was nothing but pure rage. "Aw, what's the matter Drake? Afraid your slutty boyfriend is goi-"
"SHUT UP!!" Instantly, the dragon had tackled the onto badger the ground, he may have been weaker than him, but he kept the jock pinned to the floor. Finally losing it, Drake started pounding his fists into the badgers face, and he didn't show any signs of stopping.
"Drake!" Ignoring the voice, he continued beating the badger until he felt two arms pull him off. But the dragon didn't let go easily, he dug his claws into the badgers clothes until they were nearly ripped apart. Wondering who pulled him off, he met the eyes of his principle, Drake looked down and clenched his fists while John got up, obviously sore from the beating.
"You fucking fag!" Drake nearly lashed out again, only the wolf held him back but it was enough to make John step back.
"You come near me. . .or Troy again. . .I will fucking rip you apart!" Nearly everyone took a step back, seeing Drake snap like at was an extremely rare thing to happen.
"ENOUGH!! You lot, classes. Now." The crowd didn't need to be told twice, they all left until the three of them were left in the hallway. "John, get to detention. Drake follow me."
"Die faggot."
"John, now!" As John walked away, Drake followed his principle towards his office. The two minute trip was full of silence and as they entered Roland's office, he took his seat and told the dragon to sit down. Drake did as he was told, but he didn't make any form of eye contact. Hearing his principle sigh, he looked at the floor, not caring what the wolf had to say to him. "Drake, look at me."
". . . ." He looked up, but his principle could see that Drake didn't care at all what would happen. The only thing in his eyes was a desire to go back and beat John bloody.
"I think this is the first time you've ever assaulted anyone. I know he provoked you Drake, but he was only trying to make you feel worse about Troy's condition and-"
"I know. I had enough of it. I wanted to kill him."
"Drake, I know you don't mean that, you're not that person. You just have years of bottled up rage against John and you unleashed it on him all at once."
"Sir, I. . . ."
"Drake, what would Troy say to you if you did that again?"
". . . .He'd. . .he'd tell me off. . ."
"Do want him to see you like this when he wakes up?"
". . .No."
"Exactly, which is why you shouldn't be like this."
"But. . .he hasn't. . ." The dragon didn't finish. Roland knew Troy was still in his coma but the black furred wolf sighed and looked at Drake.
"Drake, I'm suspending you for the week."
"For beating up John?"
"A little bit, yes. But its also because of the condition you're in. You look as though you haven't slept, you've lost a good bit of weight so I guess you've stopped eating and your grades are falling. Even your teachers have been saying things to me."
"I. . ."
"Listen, it'll give you time to get some rest and away you'll be away from John. Which I think you need. Now, just wait outside my office. Ill call your parents."
Nodding, Drake walked out and waited. He could faintly hear Roland's words and in less than few minutes, the wolf opened the door and told Drake to walk with him down the empty halls. When they reached outside, Roland stopped the dragon and looked at him.
"Listen to me Drake. Don't put yourself through this. People care about you and the last thing they need is to take you to hospital."
"I know."
"Do you? Think of it this way then, if Troy wakes up and comes home, what is he going to feel if he finds out you're in the hospital because you've been starving yourself when you should be spending time with him. Hmm?"
"I. . ." Drake looked away. He wasn't sure what his boyfriend would say, or how he would react.
"You father's here. On you go and you better be in good health by Monday."
"Yes sir." Leaving the wolf's side, Drake walked to his father who was sitting in the car. Getting in, Aaron drove off without saying a word.
"Aren't you going to tell me off?" Drake asked. Keeping focused on the road, Aaron gave his son an answer.
"Maybe. Drake I want you to stop this. You're mother's upset, Jamie was nearly in tears this morning and Max doesn't want you to go in hospital, none of us do. So just sort yourself out."
While he didn't say anything, he knew his father was becoming more concerned than angry, but Drake just looked out of the window. When they arrived at home, they got out and Aaron stopped his son before he could get in.
"Dad?"
"-sigh-. . .Drake, there's some food in the kitchen for you. Your mother and I aren't asking for much and we'll leave you alone, but just try and eat something. Please."
Opening the door, Aaron walked inside and then into the living room. Drake noticed his mother in the kitchen. As she walked out, she gave her son a hug before joining her husband. Standing alone, Drake looked between the food and the stairs and immediately, Roland's words appeared in his mind. Images of his family and even Troy all came in at once. Shaking it off, he decided on what to do.
After a few minutes of waiting, the sound of footsteps heading upstairs could be heard and Lily leaned into her husband. "He's not going to change is he?"
"Give him time." The two older dragons didn't know what to do and after ten minutes, they heard Drake walk down into the kitchen. Getting up, Lily looked to see what her son was doing and saw him down a glass a water before eating a piece of sausage that was still on the plate. When he started to walk out, he gave a weak smile but his mother just held him.
"Oh Drake. Do you want anything else?"
"No. . .that's was enough. Has Troy. . .?"
"He hasn't."
"Mom, I'm going upstairs to bed."
"I'll call you back down for dinner."
Nodding, Drake walked back upstairs, leaving Lily alone with her husband. "Guess he's slowly coming round."
A few hours later though, Drake was in Jamie and Max's room. But he wasn't snooping or anything, he was looking for one thing in particular. He found it though and smiled when he picked it up. It was the small panther teddy that Troy had gotten for Jamie on their day out to the arcade and then had some brotherly bonding'. Holding the stuffed panther teddy in his hand, Drake pulled it close to his chest and held it tightly, wishing that he had the real Troy in his arms.
"Drake?"
Turning, he saw Jamie with his school bag and he made a poor attempt to hide the stuffed animal. Now shaking, he wasn't sure what to say to his kit brother but Jamie smiled softly at him. Walking up to the dragon, the young fox hugged him and took the toy panther out of the dragon's hand and placed it on the bed.
"Pathetic. . .isn't it?" Drake said to him.
"Drake. I know you're upset and you just want Troy back, but you just have to wait. Okay?"
"Yeah. Jamie?"
"What is it?"
"Im sorry."
"It's okay."
"Where's Max?"
"Bathroom." In a few seconds though, Max had appeared and Drake just gave him a hug and an apology before walking out.
When they were called down for dinner, Drake had a larger meal than Jamie and Max, but even so, the blue dragon ate a good amount of it which was enough to keep his family happy. He lied his head down on the table, saying he couldn't eat another bite. However, when he hard his father saying that he would take him to the hospital to see Troy, Drake grabbed his coat and waited. Seeing the eagerness in his son, Aaron took him along to see his panther. They just went alone though, but when they arrived, Drake went into the room hoping Troy would be awake. That belief was still inside him, but it was destroyed soon after.
"I'm sorry Drake." He turned and saw James holding him close. "But he still hast moved an inch."
Leaning into James, Drake could only wonder when Troy would wake up. Slowly, he moved away from the larger feline and walked towards his sleeping boyfriend. He could see the panther's chest slowly rise and fall with each breath and that was enough to make Drake smile, even a little. Wrapping his hands around Troy's furry paw, the dragon gently started stroking the limb.
_He began to look away again. There was still that part of him that didn't want to see his boyfriend like this.
"Drake, I forgot." Seeing James again, he noticed the panther was holding a bag in his hand. "This was in Troy's car and I'm guessing it was for you."
Handing it over, Drake wasn't sure if he should open it or not. Looking at Troy, Drake handed it back to James. "Then I want him to give to me when he wakes up. Like he planned."
"Alright, I'll keep a hold of it." Heading back out, James sat next to Aaron, leaving the two teenagers alone in the room.
It was getting late now, and Drake was still sitting next to Troy. He wanted to stay all night, and wait for Troy but he knew it wouldn't be allowed. Hearing a knock on the door, he saw his father and a nurse standing behind him._
"Drake we have to go. Visiting hours over." Seeing the nurse looking at him, Drake sighed and stood up. Looking at his panther, Drake leaned down and planted a soft kiss on Troy's lips.
"I love you." He said it in a whisper, but he walked out leaving the nurse with a confused look on her face until Aaron explained that they were boyfriends. After parting with James, the two dragons drove home and walked inside. Feeling tired, Drake told his father he was heading to bed and he received a nod from him.
Walking into his room, he sat down on the bed and looked at the photo frame and the broken necklace. Why? Why was Troy still unconscious? When would he wake? When would he be in his arms again? All these and many different thoughts swam through Drake's head. He found it unfair that he had to go through this, but what about Troy? He was in the accident after all.
Shaking his head, Drake thought it was best just to try an rest and wait for his boyfriend to open his eyes. It wasn't that simple. As the minutes became hours, Drake lay there awake, his mind kept on recalling images of his panther, he felt like he was being tormented by someone who enjoyed seeing him suffer. John's name surfaced but it was quickly pushed aside. Stretching out his arm, he picked up the necklace, before bringing it close to his face. Staring long and hard at it, his eyes shifted to the photo frame and as he focused on Troy, he spoke.
"Why. . .why wont you.. . ..wake up?"
Miles away from him though, someone was awakening from his sleep. His paw twitching, the male started mumbling a bit before he managed to utter a single word.
". . . .ugh. . .D-Drake?"

Well, it's the first time I've tried writing these kind of chapters, so if I was off a bit, let me know. Anything that could help in the future would definitely be helpful.
Part 10 on its way soon.
