Huge thank you to charmonic/ruby your narrative helped me to work up the courage to write this story this is a fan fic and not at all a story to be taken literally this is also a pokemon fan fiction. WARNING:IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH (gays descriptive violence and blood pokemon ect.) then don't read comment or other things to express your feelings with these things thank you.

People of note: Ben nice and cheerful pokemon trainer. Flare a joyful but grim Charmander with an inability to use fire.

Ben and flare had just entered viridian city and started to walk towards the pokemon center as two people on bikes rode by

"The hell...."Ben mumbled

A girl soon ran up to them flare was watching the bikes as he felt a hard boot hit his back Ben stood in surprise the girl kicked flare flare slammed hard into the wall of the pokemon center Ben then looked at the girl with anger

"What the hell ......what!?"

The girl just stood there she was looking at where the bikes went

"HEY!!" Ben shouted

The girl suddenly jolted of at a fast pace Ben watched closely as she pulled a sort of phone and pushed a blue button she then pulled a metal construct that unfolded into a bike Ben continued to watch as she rode away

"Hmmm....I wonder what that was about"Ben mumbled

"Fuck"Ben cursed

Ben had realized flare struggling to get up he was in a small pool of blood he had medium sized holes in his back and was coughing up blood the girls boots were spiked Ben ran over and picked flare up

"It will be ok........it will"Ben said angered by the girls inconsiderate behavior

Flare grabbed ben's hand has hard as he could Ben was putting pressure on flares back in attempt to hold the blood in Ben ran into the pokemon center the door opened with a swooshing metallic sound Ben's hands were dripping with blood flare was pale due to blood loss Ben was tearing up

"*gasp*...oh my......come with me!" Nurse joy said motioning towards the operation room

Ben and nurse joy entered the OR there were strange machines and monitors flare had passed out long before Ben sat him face down on the operating table nurse joy stuck flare in the arm with a needle and connected a sort of adaptor she then took a sample of the blood covering his back and checked the type she then left the room only to come back with a red bag and cord

"He will be ok" nurse joy said calmly

Nurse joy connected the bag to the adaptor in flare and hung the bag on a sort of pole nurse joy walked over to a Cabinet and pulled out a green bottle and some bandages

"I'm going to disinfect the wounds and wrap them" nurse joy said getting serious

Ben was rubbing his eyes he would breakdown if something deadly were to happen to flare Ben was sad even. At the thought of losing his only friend he also thought about how this would halt his traveling to the hoenn region this was the last thing he cared about flare came first joy was almost finished with wrapping flare the flame on flares tail was small Ben put his hand towards the flame

"I-it's not even warm" Ben mumbled

Ben's heart sank he felt terrible

(It's all.....m-my fault I should have taken him in as soon as he hit the wall........oh I didn't tell joy)Ben thought

"N-nurse joy flare err hit the wall of the pokemon center before I brought him in some girl with spiked boots kicked him a-and I....."Ben said tears entering his eyes

"It's ok Ben I'll do an x-Ray and check for fractures.....flare will be ok" nurse joy reaffirmed

Ben sat back down and put his head in his hands which were still covered in blood flare was lying face down on the table the flame on his tail was small and nearly cold joy was performing the x-Ray when she completed some black sheets popped out and joy put them on lights it revealed a broken rib a broken arm and a hairline skull fracture and internal hemorrhaging around the broken rib this means he had a punctured lung joy gasped

"We will have to operate......I estimate three days of hospitalization" nurse joy said seriously

"I can pull out a cot for you to sleep here if you want?" Nurse joy inquired

"Y-yes.....th-thank you" Ben stuttered

Ben was crying he felt terrible joy came back into the room caring a folding cot and laid it down on the floor Ben walked over and sat on the cot

"Thank you....your the best" Ben said smiling

Nurse joy smiled back and left the room Ben laid down and went to sleep flare was asleep he was dreaming of what his parents were like or what it would be like living with them he was orphaned as an egg and found by professor oak to be a starter all starters in oaks care studied English to Learn how to speak it flare was the honor student he was oaks favorite but this meant more was expected of him but the day it ended the day he met Ben was the happiest day of his life

Ben woke up sweating he Dreamt flare had died in his arms he looked up at flare flares fire on his tail had grown Ben put his hand on flares head flares eyes opened slowly he tried to lift himself to sit up but clenched his arm and fell back onto the table and rolled onto his back as soon as his back touched the table he shrieked in pain and held his back flare held his eyes closed trying but ultimately failing not to cry Ben gasped at the pokemon struggling so he picked him up and sat him up flare still holding his back joy entered the room

"Today is operation day for flare ...Ben you can stay and watch if you want" nurse joy said attempting to cheer Ben up

"Ok how do you feel about that flare" Ben said

Flare looked up at him"operation.....if it's a must I'm ok with that" flare said

Nurse joy and Ben looked in astonishment Ben wasn't informed he could talk joy smiled

"We'll that will make it easier" nurse joy and Ben said in unison

Nurse joy hit a button on the wall and through the door came a medium sized pokemon with a pouch and an egg in the pouch it had a small nurse hat Ben pulled out a red device and pointed it at the pokemon the device said "chansey chansey lay several nutritious eggs every day it carries these eggs in its pouch it will share these eggs with injured people and pokemon"

"A pokedex" nurse joy said

Chansey looked up at nurse joy and mumbled and grunted

Nurse joy thought to herself then said "flare can you tell me what chansey said?"

Flare nodded and said" chansey says she wants to see the x-rays and work on heavier breaks first then fix the ripped tissue"

"Ok sounds like a solid plan" nurse joy exclaimed

"We will start now......chansey can you get the anesthetic and scalpel I will put the patient to sleep" nurse joy said

The nurse wrapped a mask around flares nose and mouth flare soon drifted off to sleep nurse joy unwrapped flares body and rubbed the topical anesthetic on his chest and slowly made an incision

"Chansey!.....I need tweezers" joy said

Joy took the tweezers and pulled a large bone fragment out of flares chest and sewed the lung back together and closed his chest she then rubbed topical anesthetic on his arm and made an incision

"Stapler" nurse joy said

Joy used the stapler and tweezers to piece and staple together his arm bone she then closed his arm she was done she bandaged his chest, back and head and put his arm in a sling she then took the mask of he soon woke up he clenched his chest realizing it was over he managed to sit himself up he looked over at a pan sitting beside the bed it was full of his blood and had a long flat bone he just stared

"........th-that came from me?...." Flare said

Everyone nodded

Chansey said"yes that is one of your rib bones it punctured your lung but because it stuck in you didn't die from suffocation or worse you wouldn't have been able to survive otherwise......but you did well careful on breathing you could have long term issues it will take a long time to heal and try to stray away from fire attacks and getting hit in the chest you mi......" "You......ok"chansey said

Flare was looking down slightly crying "I-I can't use fire....." Flare mumbled

Chansey and joy looked at him "huh..."

"I said I can't use fire I'm about the most useless pokemon ever!!" Flare yelled angered and sad

Ben went over to comfort him but flare pushed him away chansey said " sorry I didn't mean to pry"

Flare was crying huddling his face in a pillow his chest still hurt but the pain was blocked out by sadness Ben just laid down joy and chansey left the room Ben got back up

"I'm going to the store to pick up food for us I'll be back" Ben said realizing flares saddened state

An hour later Ben returned to find flare had cried himself to sleep Ben covered flare and laid on the cot Ben soon went to sleep....the next morning Ben woke up to find flare wasn't in bed

"SHIT" Ben cursed

Ben thought to himself then ran out to the back of the pokemon center all pokemon centers have a small park out back he ran trough the park looking around every were he turned to see a red light behind some bushes it was flare he was sitting there thinking and burning some grass with his tail

"Hi Ben and no I'm not feeling alright!" Flare said

"I'm sorry......that....you can't use fire but....it's ok your not useless your my friend I-I will figure this out I-I will help you to the bes......."Ben said who was interrupted by flare

"Help..me.......no...leave me here I'm useless to you I'm a terrible starter go.....go back to palet town get a new starter I'm sorry to have wasted your time" flare said starting to cry

"NO.....no I'm not leaving......you are my only friend you.....your like my brother" Ben said

"I can't you should have left me to die in a pool of my own blood I......I can't help you just dump me in the nearest pool of water and be done with me" flare said

"No....." Ben said

"Then shoot me.....you still have the gun your brother gave you......do it" flare said

"No............no..no.no I'm not going to do it I'm not ev...."Ben said being interrupted again by flare

"I...am nothing other than a useless Charmander orphan that will never be able to help you or anyone else I will never be loved if oak had never found me you would be happier not to carry me around I'm just dead weight" flare said

"No your not your my family I love you like a brother and you can help you helped nurse joy" Ben said

"I can't help if you won't leave me il leave you" flare said still crying "I had a lot of time to work on acrobatics" flare said

Flare started jumping from tree to tree moving fast Ben had never seen someone move that fast he jumped high up into the air a wild pidgey clipped flare throwing him down hard Ben gasped as he ran and just barely catching flare not noticing he was holding his arm hard and flare was in pain

"Ow crap l.....let go.....of .....my arm......Ben......let go of my arm......BEN!..." Flare yelled

"S...sorry flare...."Ben said

"I'm sorry I can't defend myself let alone help you but I......I will try" flare said as he yawned

"You tiered" Ben said

"...and hungry" flare said

"Let's go back"Ben said

Ben and flare walked back into the room Ben pulled a small red bowl with a blue button he pressed the blue button and it grew like a pokeball he pulled out basic pokemon food and poured some in the bowl then he pulled a red tube of fire type food and poured some in and laid it in front of flare

"What's with the bowl and red tube"flare said

"They came from hoenn we are traveling there I heard there was a good trainer from oldale town who's pokemon rescued lilycove city from team aqua that's were we are going I heard that was a bloody battle him and his pokemon killed several enemy pokemon but I won't say more I don't want you to have nightmares heh you done eating?" Ben said

Flare nodded as Ben took the bowl shrunk it and stuffed it into his bag

"Good night" Ben and flare said in unison

"In the morning we go to vermillion city using digletts cave" Ben said as he and flare went to sleep
