Mark and I just stayed there for a while until the nurse told him visiting hours were over. He picked me up and put me in the hospital bed. "Subject #01? Sir?"

We have been tracking her down and attempting taking her captive in order to use her DNA samples to create her power into our own image. We had to learn the secrets to her power. But she gave her power to some little dog-brat deemed special. Now we have to hunt down the brat. Our main goal was Zena since she was the origin of the power, but now he has the power. We must capture him immediately. And this is where #01 comes to use. After Zena disappeared, we managed to get slight DNA sample of her. We have been studying it for years and we found a way to unlock a power. Subject #01 carries that power and seems like the only one to capture Mark. His power is very rare but it is very helpful. What he can do is terrifying. He is able to torture people mentally and physically, which is why we're going to use him to get close enough to Mark and capture him.The good thing is that he doesn't need direct eye contact when using his power, he just has a limit to how far he can use it in a distance."

"Ah, I see. Why haven't I been told about this?" The otter asked.

"Because. I wanted to see if your tactics would work to capture Mark, but it seems it didn't. Plus, subject #01 still isn't fully stabilized but it seems we must use him now. This might be our only opportunity to capture Mark and learn the secret to Karma."

"Karma, sir?"

"Yes, it's what the power is called. I can't get much into detail, but the power is called Karma. It's basically a curse. The user is bestowed the power, but there is a contract to it. The user must follow the contract and fufill it before he/she dies. If the contract is incomplete, the user will forever be tortured by the power, it's basically worse than death. But zena was different, when Mark decided to take her power, he didn't have a contract. Which is very odd. Which is also why we are going for Mark, to learn that power and use it. He has the star symbol on his back which is the mark of Karma."

"I see now. When will you release Subject #01?"

"He's already here." The anonymous one said smiling.

Turning around, they saw subject #01. It was an old looking dalmatian who seemed to have back problems. He looked like he was around his 50's and was pretty short.

"This is subject #01. He will be acting as Mark's professor. He will keep a close eye on him and try to make a bond to get close enough to him."

"I see. But there is other information we have. It seems Mark has a lover."

The anonymous person's tailed wagged in excitement. "A lover you say? What's her name?"

"Well you see sir, it's a male wolf. His name is Cody Kane. Mark seems to have a relationship with him and loves him."

"I see... This will go perfectly."

"Will you try to capture Cody and use it against Mark?"

"No. I'm sure Mark would never allow Cody out of his sight. For now, we will use subject #01. If that fails, I still have a plan to resort to. Your work here is done."

The anonymous otter bowed down. "Yes sir" and he quickly left the room.

The anonymous one then smiled and looked at subject #01. "Now is the time we finally achieve our goal.... Isn't that right #01? Or should I say, Mr. Barker?"

The subject/Mr. Barker then replied. "Yes, my lord."

*Cody *

"Hey sleepy head, wake up." I heard a voice call. I slowly opened my eyes and saw the bright line of the sun shine down on my face. I turned to see it was Mark.

"How you feelin'?" He asked. "Never been better" I said with a smile on my muzzle. "That's good" He replied back smiling back at me. "I came to pick you up to get some breakfast. I was planning on missing out school today since it seems like you need more rest, and some help in case anything goes wrong.

Miss school? On the 2nd day? Not a chance. "No, I'm planning on going to school today actually." I slowly stood up and walked over to Mark.

"You sure? You don't seem in the right type of condition to go to school."

When we got to the cafe, it was 9:00am. We still had 2 hours before classes started.

"Later!" I said one last time, waving a paw at her leaving the small cafe. I then went back to find Mark to have some breakfast.

When I got to the cafe, Mark was already sitting at a table. "Hope he didn't order without me" I said. I went over to the table Mark was at and sat down.

"Took you long enough." He said. "Waitress didn't come here yet, so you're in a nick of time!"

"Thanks. Hope that 20 served well." I said. "Indeed it did" he said.

Just then, a waitress came and took our order. Mark ordered some pancakes and I did as well. We then started talking about how school might be and our future careers. It turns out Mark wants to be a writer like me. I was so happy to hear he had an interest in something we both enjoyed. After a little more talk, the waitress came back and gave us our pancakes. We politely said 'Thank you' to the young female fox and ate our pancakes. After finishing up, we went over back to our apartment to hang out a bit. When we got there, we started discussing about writing.

"Hmm, so what kind of genres do you like to write about?" Mark asked me.

"Oh, well you know, juvenline stuff."

"Like?" He asked.

"Well, erm, I like to write about romance." I finally said, blushing.

"Awwww, how sweet." Hearing him say that made me blush even more.

"I've actually made a lot of erotic romance stories and published them online. They're not the best, but a lot of people like it. What helps me write stories is music." I said

"Oh really? I love music! It's so inspirational. I can also play an instrument." He said taking a sipping of water.

"I can play the guitar and violin. I taught myself how to play them as a kid, I just grabbed the instruments from some store clerk. It was easy since I used my powers to get them. "Well... I said. "I can play the piano, but that's probably it. I tend to play sad songs since it motivates me, for some weird reason. It inspires my writing a lot and has helped me overcome a lot of difficult obstacles in my life. I feel like music is apart of me, apart of my writing, and life."

"You might become successful one day!" He said. "I'm not sure what I want to do yet. I still have the FBI on my tail. But, I have you at least." He said pulling me in. "Let's go to my room and get comfy, shall we?"

He stood up and helped me up. We then went over to his room, but we suddenly passed my room. "Oh yeah.. I still have to clean my room.." I said. "No worries! I'll clean it for you." He said while we walked to his room. "No please, it's fine. You've done enough for me, I don't like to feel useless."

We then got to school and stood there in front of the building. I then quickly took Mark's paw. "I didn't care if anyone stared at us. As long as I was with Mark, I felt protected. But at the same time, I felt weak.." But I didn't allow these negative thoughts to consume me anymore.

I knew this happiness wouldn't last forever, but we had to make every second count. The grass isn't always greener on the other side, but you should enjoy it while it lasts.
