#1 of SAVAGE WORLDS: Ia'Swaa

Posting the stuff that I've never posted before, because there seem to be an inordinate amount of roleplayers on this site.

The hedge wizard is a peculiar kind of problem. He fits into our society quite well, healing minor wounds and using his powers to light fires in the rainy season, entertaining children with levitating feathers and leaves, and sometimes changing portions of the body in unusual ways that are only useful once you know the trick- Like turning a farmer's hand into something like an elastic sap so that he can get a thumb loose from a crevice. No where is this creativity more evident than in young magicians just learning they possess such a skill.

But when we see young hopefuls in their homes, ready to learn, all has not always been well. Burns from hand-sized fireballs show up on their skin from self experimentation. Electricity crackles around them, causing discomfort to those they come into contact with. These examples and others are all the reasons for our glorious government to search homes for suspected mages, in case they cause harm to themselves or others. Yes, the friendly government officials in your town always keep a sharp eye out in case someone is using magic without authorization.

In the school for young wizards, some are taught how to control their power, and they go home with this small quirk cured, picking up their old lives with a couple new tricks useful for impressing their friends. But some are destined for greatness, and go into the secretive advanced classes, where they learn to be an official mage for the state.

State magicians are different from your standard hedge wizard because they are taught to be diplomats and scholars first, with their magic being a tool that is rarely used- except perhaps for getting books from high shelves! Oh, and of course, they create heat under their feet- not just to keep the floorboards warm, but to heat the water pipes under them at all times.

Yes, that's right. To learn to control their power, our state magicians perform like little kettle fires all the time! In between their schedule of learning all sorts of useful engineering and helping our glorious government, it's a wonder more of them don't get lost in their studies forever! But most of them do return home, ready to put their new knowledge to work to form a stronger connection between the capital state and your own town!

So the next time you see a hedge wizard playing with the children on a travelling market day, why not see if you're lucky enough to have a child that plays along- and really does magic?

"I made this," the old man beckoned the other two of his companions over to his side, but only the child came over, laughing lightly at Bolro's antics. "It's the best painting I have ever seen," Bolro looked at himself in the painting in the three...

It was easy traveling in the forest for me, once I cast a black magic spell that let my naked footpads stride on the surface of the water. Every ounce of metal weighed me down ten times as much as normal, but with my strength it was still easy to run...
