The Woodland Visitor Supplemental #1: The Cane
#22 of The Woodland Visitor
I've been asked several times about the significance of the cane. Reading back through I found that I skipped over what I had written about the cane. Ok well shoot me. I done [email protected] up. Oh well, I can only just add a supplemental chapter explaining it. Wish I would have noticed it earlier. I blame it all on CRS. Now where was I? Oh yea, about the cane. This took place sometime after the assault to rescue Sienna (Chapter 6)
The Woodland Visitor Supplemental #1:
The Cane
That was enough. My curiosity got the better of me. Every time someone saw the cane, they would look at it like I was given an ancient artifact. I had to find out what was so significant about it. Obviously it was a big deal to these people.
It took me some time to figure out who to talk to. I ruled out several people in case I would be making a slip of some sort by not knowing. I waited in the market for Sienna's best friend to show up. She would be the safest bet to ask and if she didn't know, she would let me know who to ask.
It was a gorgeous day, the kind that storybooks are written around. The sun was out, the birds were singing, and the temperature was perfect to be outside. I sat there and watched all the people pass by. I watched several kids playing tag as they ran down the street.
I just had to smile. I mean this could have been any small town. The only difference was that everyone had fur. I was still astounded at all the different species present. Dogs, cats, horses, deer and everything in-between walked the market doing their early morning shopping.
I had spotted a white tiger trying to do her shopping with a little tiger running around her feet the whole time. I had to smile and think about one person I knew in basic.
Since that day, I've found out that there are a lot of people who would dream about being in my place. People who would give anything to just be setting here, watching all the fur's walk by.
I was jarred out of my thoughts by the appearance of a wolf who took a seat across from me. "So hot stuff, why the secret meeting? You finally wanna go back to my place for some fun?"
"I wanna go back to your place, but to ask you about something that's kinda buggin me."
Tamanae smiled even more. "Like how come you haven't been in my bed yet?"
I shook my head and smiled. "Is that all you ever think about?"
She stood up and seductively slid around the table to sit in my lap. She was cautious of my leg as she settled down and wrapped her arms around my neck. "And what's wrong with that?"
I bowed my head down and rested my forehead on her shoulder as I replied with a laugh. "Nothing, if that's what I wanted to talk about."
With a fake pout she removed her arms from around my neck and cautiously stood up so as not to hit my leg. "One of these days Sienna is going to say yes and my dear little friend, you will be sore when you leave my bed."
"I'm sore just thinking about it." I said with a grin.
"I bet you are. Now what did you want to talk about?" She asked me as I stood up and leaning on the cane, made my way around the table.
"Well you see, I'm not familiar with your customs at all and I didn't want to get anyone in trouble. But this really got me curious."
"And what's that?"
"This cane... Every time someone looks at it they act as if Sienna gave me a cherished family heirloom or something. I mean, I love her and want to be with her for the rest of my life, but I don't want her to do something that's gonna get her in trouble. I'm afraid to ask her for fear of her getting upset."
"I see, she never told you what the cane was?"
"No she didn't." I replied in a slightly stressed tone.
"It's okay, I'm just surprised that she didn't tell you." She took my arm and led me up to a quaint little house set down a side street. Opening the door she pulled me inside, closing it behind her. With a mischievous grin she turned around and I heard the lock click. She turned around and slowly walked up to me. Grabbing the front of my shirt she twisted it in her hands and pulled me close.
"Now where were we?" She asked in a sexy voice from less than an inch away. "Oh yea." Slowly she pushed me back guiding me till I was up against her couch. With a wicked grin she gave one shove sending me backwards. Quickly she straddled my legs and being careful not to hurt me, she settled down grabbing my cane and drawing it up between us.
"Well hot stuff, in order to answer your question I need something from you." She hissed as she leaned in close to me. Running her finger down the side of my face she hooked it under my jaw. Drawing my eyes up to her she smiled in a sultry kind of way. "I need you to give me..." She sat back and puffed her chest out. "Your..." She shook her tits so they would jiggle to emphasize every word. "Un... Divided... Attention." Then she leaned in close to my face. "Think you can do that?"
I could only shake my head up and down as I stared into her eyes.
"Good. Now in order for you to understand what this means, I need to give you a history lesson." She replied sitting up and smiling. Our culture has always given the women the right to choose who their mate was. When they found someone they wanted they would set down and make that person a spear. Putting intricate patterns and designs on it to show their chosen that they would support them. Each spear was designed from the best wood and carved with patterns that were thought to appease the animal spirits and allow their chosen to bring back more food for the clan. Women spent years carving the spears, some would start before they had even chosen a mate."
She slid off of my lap and sat on the couch beside me. Caressing the cane she smiled and continued. "They would put their heart and soul into the spear showing their chosen that they were sincere. The male that was chosen would have the final choice whether they would accept the proposal or not. I was like you proposing and giving a ring. It still had to be accepted. If it was accepted the female was considered his mate for life. If the spear would ever break, she was to make another one to show her continued support. In doing all this, they were in effect married."
Looking back up at me she continued with the story. "As we evolved, the role of the spear changed but never disappeared. It eventually evolved into a walking cane. When a female came of age, she was to find the one piece of wood that would call out to her. Figuratively speaking that is. And start creating the cane that she would one day give to her perspective mate. It still is used today and shows that both parties accept the union."
She again caressed the cane as she continued. "By Sienna giving this to you, she is showing everyone that you are the one she wants' to be with for the rest of eternity. The part that you should have been informed of is that when you accepted it, you showed everyone that you wanted to be her mate and would be the only one for her for all eternity. We don't stand on big ceremonies here, the couple goes down to Brenah where the male officially accepts the union and has it registered that they are indeed a couple and both parties chose it of their own free will."
I took back the cane and caressed its surface. "I didn't know it meant so much."
"Sienna spent six years carving it and finding the right jewels. She knows the significance of each gem and each line she carved. When she gave it to you, I thought you knew what it meant. I would have stopped her if I knew then what I do now."
"So by accepting it, I essentially agreed to be hers for life?"
"Yes, if you want to give it back, under the circumstances I think everyone would understand."
"I just wish she would have told me."
"I don't think she realized what she was doing. She didn't mean to deceive you or to make you do something that you didn't want to."
Standing up, I turned back to Tamanae and thanked her. "I hate to run, but I really need to take care of this right now." I said as I held the cane up and shook it. Turning I walked out the door closing it after me.
"I'm sorry Sienna. I didn't mean to do it." Tamanae whispered as I walked away.
I slowly made my way back to Sienna's house.
"Why didn't she tell me? I would have taken care of this a long time ago. If only I would have known when she gave it to me, it would have been done then."
Opening the door I stepped inside and waited for sienna to come out. She rounded the corner, bouncing and happy as she could only be. Running up to me and hugging me she stepped back and was drained of all her enthusiasm when she saw the look on my face.
"What's wrong?"
"I need to ask you a favor."
"What is it?"
"First, we have to see someone. You up for a small trip?"
She nodded and took the arm I offered her. Slowly I led her out and down to the main part of town. As we passed by Brenah's office I turned her.
"We have a few minutes, do you wanna stop and say hello to your father?"
I could see that she was still unsure as to what I wanted and it made me smile. She nodded and we went inside. The first thing we saw was Ariana setting at the front desk with her muzzle buried in some books.
"One second, I'll be right with you."
"Take your time sweetheart, I'll just stare at you and drool all over myself until you're ready."
She looked up and smiled. "Well you know, you could always come over later and drool all over me instead."
"Any specific part? Or should I just drool on whatever sticks out." I said looking down at her chest. She turned her head and I saw her muzzle turn pink as she blushed.
"Hey Sienna, you know what's black and white and red allover?"
Sienna smiled. "Umm, Arianna?" I just started laughing.
"Brenah's down the hall. Go before I stick my hoof in my mouth again."
Laughing, I led Sienna down the hall to Brenah's office. Knocking on the door I waited for permission before I opened the door and ushered Sienna in.
"Sienna, Tom, to what do I owe the pleasure of your visit?"
"Brenah," I reached over and shook his hand. Just wanted to say hi and to get something taken care of."
"What do you say we get the business taken care of first, then we can chat for a bit."
I looked at Sienna then turned back to Brenah. "Sounds good to me."
"So what's on your mind?"
I wrapped my arm around Sienna tightly so she wouldn't bolt on me. Lifting the cane up, I placed it on Brenah's desk. "This is." Sienna quickly looked up to me.
"You see, when I received this, I didn't know anything about it. When I finally found out, I was to say the least surprised. I thought it was something like a family heirloom or something. It was quite a shock."
"I'll bet it was," was his reply as he looked at Sienna. "Since you now know what it means, what do you want to do?"
"I was thinking," I turned and looked down at Sienna. There was unmistakable fear in her eyes as she looked up at me. "I was thinking that since I was deceived into accepting it. I was thinking that I should return the favor in accepting it officially."
It took a second for Sienna to understand what I said before her eyes went wide and she let out a little squeal. Her arms wrapped around me so fast and she tried kissing me. In her excitement, she kissed everywhere but my lips. Grabbing her head I held her long enough to plant a kiss firmly on her muzzle. Then backing up I smiled.
Brenah stepped around the desk and picked up the cane. "I'm assuming that you accept what this cane stands for."
"Sir, I wanted to come talk to you about making Sienna mine. I wanted to marry her, or your equivalent. When I found out what the cane meant, I couldn't have been happier. Just asking one question, I got the answer to two questions that had been plaguing me."
"Which ones?"
"What was so significant about this cane and the second one..." I turned to Sienna and lifted her muzzle to within inches of mine. To find out how to make this beautiful creature happier than she already is."
