Adventures In College: Chapter Four
#6 of Adventures In College
Just another long awaited chapter!
"Would you mind if I stayed in your room? I'm feeling a little alone right now....I can sleep on the floor if you'd prefer."
I quickly blurted out the last line as my eyes darted back to the dark cherry hardwood floor beneath our paws. I felt his paw rest on my shoulder, my eyes slowly traveling up to meet his as I saw his warm smile.
"Absolutely Trey, that couch is kind of a pain to sleep on anyways"
He spoke calmly, reassuring me that it wasn't strange for two guys to share a bedroom.
"But I must insist that you stay in my bed, I don't have an air mattress for you to stay on and I feel guilty letting you sleep on the hard floor."
My eyes widened instinctively as I fully processed what he had said, feeling my uneasiness creep through my muscles, sensing them tense as I tried to hide my emotions from Craig. I nodded softly as I leaned over to lift my bag, grunting softly as I felt my tense muscles stretch and flex with my movements.
"Okay"
I said, trying my best to mask my uneasiness with confidence and friendliness as I gave him a smile, falling somewhere between sincere and fake but grateful nonetheless. He spun around as he ventured towards the small hallway to our right, I followed close behind him as I studied his movements and body language, trying to get an idea of what was going through his mind. We neared the door at the end of the hall, a dark brown wood door left partially ajar. Craig pushed it softly with his foot as it swung open, stepping aside to let me in as I took in the new environment. My nose wiggled slightly as I inhaled the aroma of the room, smiling softly as his scent gradually filled my nostrils.
"This is it, I hope you like your beds on the firm side"
I looked over at him as he spoke, holding his left arm softly in his right, rubbing it nervously. I finally could get an idea of what he was feeling, judging by his facial movements and body language. I had a pretty good idea that he was trying his best to make me feel at ease, maybe even impress me. I had to smirk at that idea a bit, he already had everything that I liked and desired for myself so he was definitely succeeding in that category.
"Firm is completely fine! I actually like beds to be a little more firm, that way I don't feel like I'm sinking into a marshmallow heh"
I quickly responded, trying my best to let the feeling of uneasiness that had overcome me go as quickly as they came. Craig smiled warmly as his ears flicked, resting his arms down at his sides as his now calm demeanor was transferred to me, quickly feeling almost at home. His bed was covered in a thick comforter, dark and modern. It had a cyan stripe running along the left hand side, intersected by smaller stripes consisting of red, teal, green and silver parallel to one another. Honestly, looking at the inviting bed and his welcoming smile, I could feel my eyes becoming heavy and the rest of my body becoming overwhelmed by sleep. I attempted to stifle a large yawn but failed miserably as I let a strange noise out of my muzzle. Craig grinned as he folded his arms, his eyes playful,
"You're exhausted and so am I, so let's get your things together and wrap up the night, okay?"
I nodded as I gave a sheepish grin, turning slightly towards the door. Craig padded over slowly behind me as we exited the bedroom, traveling the small hallway towards the front room where my bag was. Craig moved past me to the kitchen as I kneeled down to grab my toiletries and clothes.
"Hey Trey, I'm going to make us some tea to unwind after the stressful day we've had. Would that be okay?"
I looked up quickly and met his sapphire eyes, nodding with a grateful smile.
"Absolutely! I usually try to have a cup of tea before bed, and read to help myself unwind from all the drama I deal with day in and day out. It's my private time to get away from all of it and just relax."
He smiled warmly in return as he gave a curt nod.
"Okay, I'll get us some made now. If you'd like to go get changed into something comfortable and get ready for bed, it should be finished steeping by the time you return."
I cupped my paws together to carry my things into the bathroom as my tail betrayed my otherwise calm demeanor, wagging excitedly as I grinned back to his emerald eyes.
"Awesome! I'll be right out then."
I saw him smirk as he made eye contact with my wagging tail, blushing slightly through my carmel fur before I padded towards the bathroom. I followed through the bedroom into the restroom, shivering slightly as my paw-paws made contact with the frigid tiles and set my things down on the edge of the counter. After I set my necessities out, I gazed up towards the mirror and noticed there was a black streak along the right side of my shirt; I lifted it towards my nose and grumbled as I took in the scent of oil. I shucked off the fabric and felt my neck fur stand up, realizing the oil set into my side. I reluctantly turned on the shower, letting it warm up to adequate temperature, removing my clothes as I placed them into a small pile on the floor. I quickly rinsed off as I used the items Craig had in the shower, smiling as I lifted the body gel and noticing he used the same brand as me. I slid the curtain quickly as the bath water drained, my eyes widening as I realized I had been an idiot.
"Oh shit...are you serious?"
I gasped as i made eye contact with the empty towel rack, before shifting my eyes quickly to the counter top and saw a small hand towel. I climbed out of the shower and stood on the tip of my toes, leaping across the floor to grab the cloth as I tried my damnedest not to soak the floor. I quickly used the towel to "dry" myself. I looked myself over in the mirror as I sighed, my fur standing up in patches all over my body since i wasn't able to get all the water out; I shrugged as I quickly put my shorts and shirt on, deciding to save my underwear for tomorrow. I turned towards the door to turn off the lights, flipping the switch for the ceiling fan to help the immense amount of steam that accumulated dissipate. I tossed my things towards my bag as I neared the kitchen, looking around for Craig. He tapped me on the left shoulder, coming around the right as he chuckled and smirked.
"I thought you said you were going to be fast! You took almost twenty minutes so I had to put a new batch of tea on the kettle."
I rubbed the back of my neck bashfully with my paw as i hung my head slightly.
"Well I had an oil stain that soaked into my fur so I needed to get that taken care of and then to top it off, I forgot to ask where the full size towels were so I used a hand towel to dry myself."
I sighed as I told him the embarrassing tale, expecting him to laugh at my misfortune. Instead, he placed his paw on my shoulder again, giving me a reassuring squeeze as he gave me another comforting smile.
"Once when I was staying with a friend of mine, i did the exact same thing. Except i used the towel to cover my *ahem* goods and tried to sneak across the hallway to get a regular sized one. Turned out he had his girlfriend over and was busy getting busy on the couch. Needless to say they saw me and I honestly don't know who was more embarrassed" I tried to stifle a laugh as I pictured the scene in my head, doubling over and failing to control any laughter and instead amplifying it. He folded his arms as he rolled his eyes, grumbling softly.
"Oh sure, make me feel like the idiot puff ball! I didn't even laugh when you told me!"
I slowly started to quiet down as I chuckled still, standing back upright as I looked up to the small smile on his face signifying he was enjoying our playful banter too.
"I'm sorry, that was extremely rude of me. I just couldn't help it after I pictured you running down a hallway with just a towel. But thank you for not giving me grief about my stupid mistake."
Craig smiled back warmly as he nodded, pulling me into a comforting and warm hug as I gladly embraced him in return.
"No problem, Trey."
We broke the hug as he left his paws on my shoulder, meeting our eyes.
"Let's get our tea and get going to bed"
