Summertime Blues (Book7, Chapter6)
#6 of Twilight of the Gods Book7
It's time. As a writer, both these female characters needed the ultimate motivation to rise up and act accordingly. They now have nothing to lose and everything to gain. You'll see that Sinopa and Karla handle things very, very differently. It's partially cultural. Back in Karla's time, mourning wails weren't out of the question. Sinopa handles things silently. I consulted with a lot of Japanese friends and websites to make sure it was proper for her to act in the way she does.
Chapter-6- Summertime Blues
Three months later July 11, 2049 - 4pm pacific daylight savings time San Francisco, California ...
** Sinopa swallowed back the** emotional pain in her chest. "He's just fifty-seven." The kitsune placed her right palm against the mirror. "Why must it be today?"
Tamamo-no-Mae tightened her jaw and lowered her eyes. "Another reason why we should have avoided love with mortals. How has Conner been?"
"Why are you even asking that? Conner is fine! He's at the movie theater with his grandfather; their phones are off! I cannot warn them. Why didn't you tell me sooner?! I would have told them not to go!"
"Sinopa, I just found out. One of the messengers spoke of watching a seer in San Francisco who only just saw it. I came to you right away. You need to handle this with dignity and grace. Just like Topaz and Fox, Jules has not crossed into Yomi-no-Kuni that I can see. I do not believe it has happened for him yet."
Sinopa Guillot moved away from the mirror and sank onto the bed of her room at the Parker Mansion. She flopped onto her back and stared at the ceiling. "How does it happen?"
"I do not know. I cannot get sanction to call upon a messenger Kami to check on a person without approval from the court."
Sinopa clenched her palms into fists. "Bureaucratic bastards." She sighed in frustration, fighting off the sensation of helplessness. "Thank you for trying. What do I do? Will he feel any pain?"
"I do not know anything helpful at this point. Except that it is his time." Tamamo placed her porcelain skin against the mirror, unable to pass through into the physical realm. Her palms flattened as if a window separated them. "I remember when I found out that Konoe passed away. I was on the run and could do nothing to help him. I could not be there to comfort him in his final hours. When I crossed the country, I kept thinking of how he looked when I left ... sick, weak. I was more scared for him than for the advancing army or the assassins that were practically right on my tails."
Sinopa said nothing. She lay on her bed and stared at the ceiling in silence. In her left hand, she held her cellphone, waiting impatiently for the call.

8:45pm San Francisco, California ...
** Rufus Darken stepped from the liquor store** and stuffed the brown-bagged whiskey into his duffle. He started up the side alley and walked to the far end then stopped on a street corner and waited for a gap in traffic.
Rue perked and sniffed at the air. Something familiar, a scent out of yesteryear, floated on the wind. From an open window above his head, he heard someone exclaim, "Visual contact! Do it now!" His first thought was of a television program.
A manhole cover out on the street burst into the air. The concussive force of the explosion knocked Rufus unceremoniously to his backside. A noise-suppressed gunshot irritated Rue's ear. He glanced up in time to see the barrel of a rifle disappear back into the window. Darken cut his gaze over to the street again.
An American sedan swerved off the road and went up onto the sidewalk. It stopped on the stairs of a corner building.
Rufus shrugged off his duffle bag and hurried towards the car. The windows were broken but filled with airbags. He glanced around himself but saw only startled bystanders.
Rue shoved the curtain airbag up and balked at the sight of Conner Nevada and Jules Guillot. Neither appeared to have been seriously injured - only dazed. Darken glanced about then reached in through the window and pulled Conner's seatbelt. He reached over the teenaged boy and unfastened the harness then pulled it away.
The Georgian native put his palms on the side and back of Conner's throat, checking for lumps. Satisfied the boy was both alive and didn't have a broken neck, he opened the door and put his arms beneath Conner's legs and back.
Rufus lifted Conner Nevada from the sedan and carried him into the alley then laid him down on the concrete, propping the boy's head on the dufflebag. Somewhere in the background, he heard the clink of glass from the alcohol bottle inside. "Stay here, kid."
Rue went back to the scene of the accident and moved around to the driver's side. He saw a hole in the hood of the car where the engine had been struck with a large caliber round.
Jules groaned softly and looked up. His eyes met those of Rufus Darken. He blinked then said, "Rue? Christ, you age well, mon ami." He looked over at the passenger side door then blinked. "Conner? Où est Conner?"
"I laid the Nevada boy flat; he's over in the alley. Can you walk, Jules? You were attacked."
Jules looked up at Rufus with wide eyes. "Attacked?"
"They shot your engine out and blew a manhole cover. Everyone has their eyes on the fire coming out of the sewer hole. Think it's a diversion. We gotta move."
"Get Conner back to the mansion," Jules said. He reached over to the glove box and withdrew his old service pistol. "They won't want me - I'm human. They're here for Conner."
"What? Why?"
"He doesn't know this, but the twins are his parents. If Falcon managed to figure it out, he'll want Conner Parker captured. And if he doesn't know, he'll want the boy eliminated before he's old enough to become a thread."
"Holy hell."
"Oui. Everyone thinks Conner's father is Vincent. Nobody knows. Keep that boy safe at all costs. I don't know what Falcon wants with him, but Falcon has wanted the child of Fox and Topaz since the twins were conceived prior the turn of the millennium. Get him out of here and don't let anyone see you! When they come looking for him, I'll stall them to buy you time. Now go."
Rue grit his teeth. "Cybil says you might..."
"I know my fate. This is more important than me. That boy is the linchpin to Falcon's ambitions. Keep him safe. I'll cover you, now go!"
Rufus swallowed then hurried around the passenger side of the vehicle. He kicked the door shut and hurried back to the alley. Rue lowered to one knee and checked the boy's joints to make sure he was completely uninjured. "Hold tight, young'un." Rufus picked up the dazed teenager, shouldered his duffle bag then carried Conner away from the street and the scene of the accident.
He made his way to the far end of the alley, turned a corner and started in a new direction.
A three-round burst of gunfire sounded in the distance. Rue frozen and swallowed. "That volley wasn't from no service pistol." He took a deep breath and continued on with Conner.
Rue shifted Conner to his right shoulder then opened the side-door of an apartment building. He locked the alley-entrance door behind himself then carried Conner to the third door on the far left. Rufus fumbled with his keys, opened the door and carried Conner in. He shut the door behind himself, locked it and laid the teenager out on the sofa.
He found a cellphone in the kid's left pocket, fished it out and called Sinopa.
She answered on the first ring. "Conner! Is Jules alright?!"
Rufus flinched then, in a respectful tone, said, "Hey, uh, foxy. It's Rue. Conner's out cold. Got a black eye from the airbag. I brought him to my apartment; he's safe. They's been attacked. Jules said he thinks it were Falcon's people. I'm gunna go back and check on Jules, now, but he said he wanted to stay with the car to slow'em down - to make sure I got th' kiddo to safety."
Silence. A moment later, Sinopa stepped from a mirror on the bathroom door and into Rufus' living room. "Show me," she said with a stern expression, her cellphone still clenched in her right fist.
"Sinopa, shouldn't you stay here with...?"
"Show me to Jules," she said in a demanding tone.
"Yes'm. Follow me." He led Sinopa out of the apartment, locked the door behind himself then took her out through the front entrance of the building. They headed around the corner, through the series of alleys Rufus used earlier, until they arrived back at the scene of the car accident.
A police officer appeared to be searching the vehicle. Jules was in the driver seat. Rufus sniffed at the air as they came from the alley. He motioned for Sinopa to wait. Again, he sniffed the air then grimaced. "That ain't no cop. It's the scent of the man from the window who fired that there rifle to disable their car. He reeks of a Falcon Mercenary."
Sinopa shoved her way past Rufus. "I shall handle this, Rufus-san." The kitsune made her way around the vehicle. With a voice of authority, she approached the man in the officer's uniform and told him, "Step away from my husband."
The officer backed up and glared at her then looked back at Jules' slumped form. He went for his sidearm with one hand and snatched the receiver of his radio in his other hand. "The kid's grandmother is on scene! I need backup!"
The kitsune's sharp amber gaze flitted over to her motionless husband. Her pupils constricted to vertical slits.
Jules had been executed - three gunshots to the head. Her pupils dilated, going wide and round. She could see the powder residue from the proximity of the weapon that had been used to slay her spouse. All at once, she shouted at the top of her lungs.
"LIYA!" she exclaimed, prolonging the end of the word in anguish and despair. Sinopa shoved the faux cop to the concrete.
The uniformed mercenary threw his gun to the sidewalk - the handle glowed orange but immediately began to cool. He scooted away from the vehicle, looking up at Sinopa.
A gunshot rang out from far away and struck a red dot on her blouse. It pierced the kitsune's body and emerged from her back. The bullet thudded against the sedan.
She winced in irritation then looked around but couldn't see the gunner. Another round struck her shoulder, passed through her body and into the car. She cried out in pain. The red dot crawled up to her neckline.
"Get out of there!" Rufus cried from the mouth of the alley.
Sinopa threw her hands upwards. An enormous wall of fire rose up around the sedan - a controlled fireball over fifteen feet high. It incinerated the man impersonating the police officer. He screamed but the sound distorted into a horrifically eerie moan from the heat that consumed his lungs.
She turned to Jules and stared at her fallen mate. Silence. Sinopa leaned forward and touched her fingers to his motionless lips. "Aishiteru wa." Her lower lip trembled, "Suki nan da." Another gunshot rang out but she ignored it. "Renai-kekkon," she licked her lips, then spoke in English. "Ours was a marriage of love. I will miss you." She swallowed back her grief, took a deep breath then disappeared into her clothing in the form of a four-tailed fox. She crawled beneath the car and disappeared into the alley.
Rufus led her back towards his apartment. "Sinopa, I just ... I am so sorry."
She rambled a string of harshly spoken Japanese.
Rue frowned and said, "My Japanese is rusty. The only word I caught was giri. As in ... an obligation?"
"Hai." She trotted alongside him. "Not the way you may be accustomed, Rufus-san. Not the obligation of a holiday card. I speak of the obligation of revenge. 'Mizushobai' means 'water business' - Falcon's mercenaries. They will come unglued without leadership when I end Aris Falcon's life. I vow it to happen. We left him alone despite all he has taken from us. We lived quietly, peacefully. I'm ending that peace. Vincent Nevada will ensure that we will find our way back to the dome. The Western world has a saying about the wrath of a scorned woman. I promise that man's ending will not be pleasant."
"Jus' follow me. Jules told me to protect Conner with his nearly-last breath. I'm not about to leave the kid alone. This way."
Sinopa padded after Rufus in her natural fox form. She followed him into the apartment building, down the hall, up the stairs, and into the door. She leapt up onto Conner's chest, eased down upon his stomach and rested her head on his shoulder with a sigh. "I wish to be left alone until he wakes, Rufus-san." The four-tailed red-furred vixen closed her glistening eyes.

July 12 - 4:40am Paris, France...
Kalen Kincade looked up from his cellphone screen and sighed. "It's started."
"What has?" asked Karla in a weary voice, from beneath a blanket on the recliner.
Kalen calmly stood up, crossed the living room and deactivated the holo-projection emitter. He turned back to Karla and sighed. "Apparently the American west-coast Esoteric Community is buzzing about Falcon's attack on Conner Nevada."
"Jesus."
"The attack was highly coordinated. Two casualties at this time. Someone assumed to be an officer from the scene of the attack. The other casualty was the human grandfather-by-marriage of Conner Nevada. This is far from good, because their public attack has members of the fledgling sect worried."
"Oh, Jules." She bit the lower corner of her lip.
"My condolences for the loss of your friend."
Karla, with her eyes still closed, murmured, "You said the new EC is worried. Define 'worried.' That's vague."
Kincade glanced down at his phone screen then shook his head. "People think the Silent Inquisition is going to happen again. Sect leadership has called an emergency meeting with Lance Patterson."
"Say what? When was the meeting?"
"Apparently it was called in San Francisco. They concluded an hour ago."
"What was the verdict?"
"They apparently made the decision to leave."
Karla sat up. "Leave?"
"They're abandoning California. They're saying it's a matter of self-preservation. They also 'condemn the violence' that 'claimed the lives of two humans,' and 'disparage the idea of retaliation.' We need to find a seer and find out what the safest course of action would be to take from this point."
"I'm not going to find one of those idiots and listen to them scry over a polished globe of glass, okay? I trust YiaYia but she died. I trust Cybil since Natalia's put so much stock in the guy but nobody has seen him in forever. Look. I have my own problems. I really liked Sinopa and I feel really bad that her husband was killed in an attack. And Conner's a good kid from what I've heard, but ... I'm tired. My family left me. I'm hated and alone, now. I wanted so much to know what it's like to be in love and have children ... and now it's all gone. I'm miserable, and upset with myself. I'm lonely. So..." She slid out of the recliner and stretched. "I'm going upstairs, getting in my big-ass empty bed and I'm going to starfish-out right in the middle of that mattress and cry because of what a loser I've become. I know the sun is coming up soon so ... sleep well."
Kalen stared at her for a moment. He shook his head with a frown.
Karla pursed her lips. She held her grimace, turned away from him, and vanished from the room.
As soon as she left the room Kalen called Rufus' new cellphone from a text message dated six weeks ago.
Rue answered the line.
Kincade breathed a soft sigh of relief, hearing Rufus' healthy sounding tone of voice. "Hey."
"Howdy. You still in Paris?"
"I am. Sorry I haven't spoken to you sooner. Did you hear about Conner and the kitsune?"
"Reckon so. I saw the whole-damn-thing."
Kalen blinked. "What? You were there? We need to talk. Karla is an emotional wreck over her forced separation; she misses her son and her husband. We're going to need her..."
Rufus' voice picked up in tone over the line. "I don't TRUST HER, man! That there selfish lil' bitch is too easily manipulated!"
"Rufus ... we need someone of her fighting caliber. If that psycho finds Conner then we're all in trouble."
"So ... you know?"
Kalen sighed. "I've kept it a secret. A number of years ago, Cybil told Natalia that Conner was the most important piece on the board. This was foretold before the boy was even conceived. His importance is monumental, followed by Reno, Karla and Sinopa, and Fara's son, James. We are nothing, Rufus. They are the important players and we have to make sure they stay alive. Now, you need to get your tail from between your legs and talk to Karla and get her out of this troubling mood."
"I dun' care if she's in a funk. She lied to me. She..."
"From what I've heard, she didn't have a lot of choices. Plus she at least tried, because she saved you on the way out the door. Remember? You said she teleported you right out of Falcon's grasp. That has to count for something."
"Kalen..."
"Suck it up and get to Paris right away."
"I'm supposed to watch over Conner and Sinopa."
"You can go right back to them. But right now, you need to talk to the succubus. I'm sure the demigod can handle watching her grandson for a night or two. Listen, I have to go."
"Fine. I'll come. Chri'sake."
"Good. Don't waste any time." Kalen ended the call. He glanced around furtively then made his way to the window and gazed up at the sky with a frown.
After a moment of silence, he made his way out the front door and around to the private entrance to the sublevel. Kalen headed down to the lower level and approached Reno Nevada. A monitor showing brain activity displayed considerable action spikes on the display. "Whatever you're dreaming of, Reno, it's just a dream. We need you. It's time to wake up. You're as stubborn as Natalia. Sleeping when you should be helping. I hope you awaken soon."
Kincade reached over and activated a switch on a cable, which led to suction cups that attached across Reno's body. They began to stimulate the muscles of his arms, legs and torso, causing his body and limbs to flinch rhythmically. A monitor on the left of his bed lit up, showing muscle status at forty percent. Kalen shook his head then made his way to a door at the far end of the area, opened it and entered his temporary subterranean bedroom.

July 13 - 7:30pm Paris, France
Karla Loupe opened the front door of her mansion and gawked in shock.
Rufus Darken, Sinopa Guillot and Conner Nevada stood on her doorstep. At first, no one spoke.
Conner glanced back at Sinopa and Rufus then looked towards the girl nearly his age. "We're looking for some woman who lives here, maybe you can help us?"
The succubus stared at them for another brief moment, drew in a slow breath then sighed. "Come in, you three. Conner, it's nice to meet you. I'm Karla. I'm very sorry about your grandfather. He was one of the good men in this world. I hope you try to be just like him. Sinopa ... my condolences. I can't begin to understand what it's like to lose a husband. Mine ran away like a coward. I could never fathom what you're going through right now. Rufus..." She glanced down to avoid eye contact. "I'm sorry about being a horrible friend. Truly, I am."
Rufus gently touched Sinopa on the arm, and Conner on the forearm to keep them quiet. He moved between them and approached Karla. They looked at one another for a moment then Rufus sighed in frustration and pulled the girl into his embrace.
Neither spoke. Karla wrapped her arms around him and buried her face into his shoulder. She felt both elated by the forgiveness and dirty from the guilt in her heart. She remained uncharacteristically silent.
"Lookie here, blondie ... we'll worry about our shit another time. I have to tell you something important."
Karla reluctantly withdrew from the hug. "Yeah. I heard Falcon might be back in town."
Kalen stepped into the room and nodded politely to the houseguests. Rufus waved him over and the two shook hands.
Rue gestured for Sinopa and Conner to move the rest of the way into the room, then he shut the door and turned back to Karla. "I was shot right here in this house," Rufus told them.
"What?" Karla tilted her head, confusion on her face.
Rufus sighed. "Yeah. Bullet went right through my cell. Got lodged in my gut. This happened about three months ago, give or take. Left for dead by Aris Falcon, himself."
Kalen blinked. "I recall that I smelled your blood."
"Ayup. That crazy sumbitch, Cybil, flew all the way to Paris and patched me up after I was shot. And what I'm about to tell y'all is going to be a little ... out there, so I need everyone to pay attention to what I'm about to say."
Karla ground her teeth together. "Falcon came into MY house and SHOT you? What were you even doing here, anyhow? Checking up on me?"
"No, ladybug. I came because Eric called me, and..."
"I KNEW IT!" she shouted, pushing away from Rufus. "Son of a bitch, I knew he called you to get help!"
"Help?!" Rufus snapped. He narrowed his eyes. "Aris activated your husband. That bastard took your son, ordered Eric to shoot me down, dead, then told Eric to go and shoot a group of supernaturals, then kill himself. I've heard nothing in the news, so it must have been covered up, but I was there. Eric did what Falcon told him with those goddamn green eyes of his ... and he shot me down and left as instructed. Falcon's last order was a suicide mission."
Karla froze, eyes wide. She staggered back against Kalen, who held her steady. She remained still, putting all the pieces of information together. Her lower lip trembled.
Rufus bit his lower lip then lifted the front of his shirt and showed her the faded bullet mark over his abdomen. "Cybil showed up and saved my life. Then he left and I followed him. But before that happened, I came here because Eric called, saying he needed someone to talk to about you and him fighting. He was crazy in-love with you and didn't know how ta' fix whatever was broken. He was afraid you were gunna leave him. He sounded genuine on the phone. He said he wanted me to forgive you, so you could start to heal. He said he wanted help finding yer daughter. He said he needed someone to talk to, so he could get you back into his life. He said he missed you, 'cause you were off gallivanting so-damn-much. So I showed up while you were off in DC doing god-knows-what. He answered the door and before I knew it, I was on the floor, bleedin' out."
Karla sank to her right hip, leaning back against Kalen's legs for support. She brought her hands over her lips, shocked into silence.
Sinopa frowned then approached Karla and knelt adjacent to her. "Dear me. She's horrified, Rufus. Stop talking. She's in shock. Give her a moment before you bombard her with anything else."
Suddenly, Karla disappeared. Everyone exchanged glances with one another.
Kalen shook his head. "She's either up in her room, hiding ... or she's in the basement with Reno."
Conner looked around, wide-eyed. "She disappeared. How did she disappear like that? Is she like you people? A god or whatever?"
Sinopa placed a hand on his shoulder from behind him. "No, Conner. She's not a deity. But she is able to teleport among other things."
Rufus shook his head then pinched the bridge of his nose. "I can't believe Falcon came here ... and didn't know that Reno was right under his nose."
"He wasn't in his cryogenic stasis unit anymore," Kalen murmured. "He can't be tracked. But he's in some sort of coma. He won't come out of it at all. So we have him hooked up to all sorts of machines."
"Goodness," Sinopa whispered. "My children and granddaughter have been captured. I've just lost my husband. Karla's hurt is fresh. Her daughter has been missing for some time. And now she just found out that she lost her husband and her son at the same time. I know her pain. Fox and Topaz are missing and I know that monster has them. We can only assume that Falcon took the boy for a reason. Karla and I are bonded by our loses. I wish to talk to her."
Kalen walked to the stairs and sniffed. "I can't smell the scent of her blood in the house. Perhaps she is downstairs with Reno. Come, I will show all of you the private entrance. It is accessible only from the outside..."

** Karla sat on a chair adjacent to Reno Nevada's bed.** She had her hands in her palms and ignored the approaching group. She didn't care if it was the boys and the kitsune, or if it was Falcon's mercenaries at the moment. Her heart pounded in her chest and she continued to cry loud and freely.
Sinopa placed a palm on Karla's shoulder. "Rufus explains that you made a deal with the devil, in a matter of words. So why would he come here and hurt your family?"
Karla ground her teeth together then looked up at the kitsune. Tears soaked her face. "I made a fucking deal with the devil, all right. That bastard promised to leave me alone. But now I see that he only meant me. He killed my husband and took my son?!" She glanced back at Rufus and glowered at him. "I'm sorry Eric shot you, but why didn't you tell me?! It's been three fucking months and you haven't told me!"
Rufus balled his right hand into a fist. "Cybil told me I had to go into hiding for three months in California. He said if I told you any sooner, that the timing would have been wrong, and you would have died - probably from storming off down to that damn dome all by yer lonesome! He said the boy is alive because Falcon wants to study whatever it is that he can do."
"I don't care if he sewed your ass up. You should have told me! He has my son! That's three months Donnie has been without his mother or father! He's probably scared out of his mind!"
"Cybil told me to stay the hell away from you and everyone else until after Conner Nevada fell under my protection. This time I was the selfish one. I wanted you alive, cause you ain't worth a damn if'n that bastard kills yer ass! So! I waited fer Conner Nevada to come under my wing."
"Fuck Cybil! We're talking about my son being alone and scared for three months!"
"Well I waited like Cybil told me. Now it's happening and I took the first damn flight here, sister, so don't you dare get upset with me. I've been dreading this conversation for three damn months."
The succubus stood up and walked away from the group. She clenched both hands into fists and glared at the floor for a moment. Karla turned back to the group. She squeezed her fists tightly. The fabric of her skirt fluttered in an unseen force. Her hair levitated, somewhat. The demoness' arms, wrists, hands, shoulders and breast began to flow a vibrant shade of carnation pink. "I am going to find Falcon and destroy him." She disappeared again.
A moment later, the house shook as if from a low level earthquake. Kalen lead the group back to the entrance of the sublevel. The backyard behind the manor appeared to have been in the early stages of terraforming. Grass was missing, trees were uprooted and lying on their sides. Branches, rubble and chunks of clay, limestone and flecks of grass.
With her back to the house, Karla faced the destruction with a stoic pose. She stood adjacent to a large white kitsune statue.
Sinopa approached first. She looked over the statue then back at Karla. "Who made this?"
"Eric was told by that white fox in a mirror that he had proof of the existence of Shinto gods. And she told him if he desired their protection, then he would have to erect a statue in the back yard, with his own hands. Where was that precious protection when Falcon arrived at my home?"
"You have it now. My kind is only sustained by the faith of humans. Their faith has the power to create, topple, or destroy entire pantheons of powerful gods. Every believer makes us stronger and more able to help. And due to that unifying power of faith, that is why humans are revered as the most powerful beings in our circle of life." The kitsune licked her lips and gazed out over the chaos of Karla's backyard. "We enjoy a symbiotic relationship. You help our kind exist with the power of your faith. And in return, we do our best to help humans as best we're able."
"Sounds like some sort of Tulpa belief bullshit."
"Karla-san, I know you are angry. I, too, want to exact revenge against Aris Falcon."
"You're three months late, Sinopa. Eric is dead and my little boy is gone. Fuck your statue and your stupid protection."
"I came to help you. You should not fight that man alone. Like Reno, your son is likely preserved in stasis. He is assuredly not afraid or alone. No time is passing for him. Please. Help me fight Falcon and his people. I want our friends and family back."
Karla glared at the devastation she caused to the yard behind her home. "I just wiped seven acres off the map. But that is nothing compared to what I will do to Aris Falcon. I held back, just now, so as to not attract attention. But I'm going to level that domed city. And I'm going to enjoy it."
"Hai. And I will stand with you when it happens. We will find our loved ones, but we must prepare first. Also, we must do research."
"What?"
"Karla-san, consider this - now that a strip of land has torn away from the American continent, and pushed out to sea ... that dome is protected. There is a possibility it is covered in bedrock. That would make things far more difficult to..."
"Aris came here and took my son," Karla snapped. "If he can come and go as he pleases, then there is an accessible route to that city. We're going to find it, and then I'm going to kill that man. I'm going to rip him apart with my bare hands. Then we're going to get back everyone we ever lost and kill everyone that ever supported Falcon. Starting with Reinhardt St. Leonard and Krys Monroe. I'm going to kill all the lackeys - Jasper Cunningham, Wilhelm Snipes, and all those goddamn mercenaries. Then I'm going to kill every freak, monster and clone that asshole has ever created. And when it's all over ... I am going to put Falcon's head on a pike and smash his body into dust. God help anyone who's left, because all that shit ... that'll just be my warm-up."
"Karla-san..."
"You don't get it," the succubus snapped, her eyes cold and distant with pent up rage. "I have a lot of energy to burn off. Whatever that bastard found under the ocean, I will find it and, if it's the very last thing I do, I will telekinetically drive all of it so far down into the mantle that whatever is left that hasn't been crushed will burn to ashes. That man has messed with the wrong bitch. He should have left me alone. But this time he's gone too far. My little peace-treaty with him is over. I'm going to get my kids back then I'm going to make that man suffer. And the longer he hides from me, the more time I have to come up with creative ways to kill him."
