Mood / Tone: playful, happy, fun

Summary:

With more than enough money, the cubs set out. On their way to the lake, Kira, who lacks change, makes a hasty decision and faces the consequences. Rowen and Kira explore their powers.

Kira hangs on Rowen's arm. She was happy. Nothing and no one in her whole life had ever made her happier than Rowen had made her in the two days that had passed.

Rowen had been a faithful companion to her everyday for two years, ever since she moved to town. She always new he had a crush on her, she didn't mind; it just made teasing him that much more fun. The lake was totally unexpected, him seeing her powers seemed to have activated something in him; moved him to act the way he did.

Kira wrapped around Rowen's arm even more, unconsciously pushing it against her chest.

Rowen shot the girl an annoyed glance. All he saw was an adorable Kira smiling hugely with narrow-eyes at everything she passed. She obviously wasn't paying attention, but she was content. Rowen looked at her again; she was staring at him now. "What?" Rowen checked to see if his fly was down, clothes all faced the same way, or maybe his hair was messy. Running his fingers through his hair, he finally asked again, "What is it?"

"About the lake; thank you so much."

Rowen blushed slightly, "It just felt right"

"These past two days have made me happier than I have ever been."

Rowen sighed, "Yes, I guess the same goes for me as well. I just wish...

Aw crap! Kira scrambled, "Besides that place being all you've known, were you really happy there?" She became nervous, hoping she didn't offend him.

"I see your point, I guess, I will be happier here; with you."

They touched noses and made way for the lake, a light breeze following their travels.

On their way to the forest path, they pass a food cart that had a simply intoxicating aroma. Rowen noticed Kira sniffing, so he followed suit. He smelled it too, being led to the cart.

A husky middle-aged human male worked the cart.

"What can I do you two lovebirds for today?" the man good naturedly, but loudly asked them.

Kira reddened a little bit before asking, "What is that amazing smell?"

The man laughed a hearty laugh before opening a flap on the cart. Their ears filled with the sizzle and pop of cooking food. Just the way it sounded cooking sounded unhealthy, but then they smelled it. The aroma was awesome. This scent could only have come from heaven. Kira's face lit up eyes wide; mouth even wider, salivating and drooling.

"These, ma'am, are rice balls, soaked in soy sauce, wrapped in bacon, then seaweed, topped with smoked ham, and breaded with first a layer of buttery potato, then the layer of extra fat from the bacon, and the third and final layer, golden brown bread crumbs!" The man looked pretty satisfied. "If you are looking to commit food-icide, this is the perfect way to go!" The man chuckled.

"I want six!" Kira yelled dramatically, slamming a silver coin on the table.

The man stopped, "Six?" he repeated, stunned. It will only come out to thirty-six pieces. You really want to pay with a coin that has one-hundred times the value than a copper piece? I'm not sure if I have enough change for that!" He warned her, not really wanting to do all that math.

"Uh..." Kira paused for a moment, thoughtfully. "Fine. Give us ten!" her mouth watered just thinking about them.

The man began to put the delicacies into a paper bag with wooden tongs.

"Sir," Kira bugged him again, "Could you only put four in a bag, and I can pick up the other six in a few hours?"

The man ruffled her hair, "I don't see why not! Just be back before the food vendor curfew!"

Vendors that sell food after dark are most likely crooked, or just dangerous.

The man plopped forty bronze pieces into Kira's cupped paws and handed Rowen the greasy bag.

They waved goodbye to the noisy man and continued to the lake.

Kira again clung to Rowen's arm, "C'mon! This isn't fair! I paid for it! Why'd he have to give you the bag?" Kira whined, Rowen playing keep away with the food.

"Kira."

"What?" she demanded, sulking.

"You really are incredibly cute when you pout." Teased a playful Rowen with a vocal jab, while narrowly avoiding a physical jab by Kira whom was not amused in the slightest.

They walked a bit more, then reached the lake.

"Oh thank goodness." With lightening-fast, cat-like reflexes, Kira stole the bag, sprawled on the ground and was already nibbling on their treat.

Defeated, he sat next to her and grabbed a triple layered, unhealthily breaded, smoked ham topped, seaweed and bacon wrapped, soy-sauce stuffed rice-ball from the bag.

Rowen slipped his hand into Kira's shirt and rubbed her belly absent-mindedly, shoving the food down his throat. "Honey?" Rowen asked, a piece of bacon flew out of his filled mouth. He tossed his food up into the air, caught the rogue bacon mid-air, and consumed the rogue bacon, catching his Foodicide ball. All with one hand. All of this before Kira turned around and saw him.

"Hm?" she looked up from her ball, swimming in fats and oils.

"Why did you buy ten of these?"

"They looked amazing, and he had a point with the money. Would have been like money overkill, and I didn't have change. I figured we could both have two this afternoon, then you, Mom, and I could have two more tonight."

Rowen was satisfied with this answer. He finished his foodpuku ball and leaned his head on her muscular glute. She played with his hair and dreaded having to eat three more of those diabolical edibles. It was too rich, she felt full after simply smelling it, and sick after eating only half. She felt dead upon completion of it.

"It lives up to that guy's name for it, doesn't it?" Rowen continued rubbing her soft, toned belly.

She could only moan a regretful moan.

He pattered her rather large, muscular thigh thoughtfully, digesting his food.

"I wouldn't change a thing about my life." Kira jested, feigning her own death.

Rowen swatted her butt.

"Hey! Ow!" She lifted her head and complained, turning red.

Rowen couldn't help it, he knew she was too full to do anything to him. He disguised his slip-up by saying, "Don't even joke about dying." He massaged the 'hurt' spot on her butt, quite content.

They lay for a few hours, annoying each other.

"Kira!"

"What?" She flicked her tail annoyed at her poor decision making, and Rowen's teasing being unable to defend herself.

"I can stand!" Rowen exclaimed, hopping up. Rowen jumped onto her hip.

"Oomph!" she flailed, "What the hell are you doing?"

"Waiting," he sat on her side as she lounged, drumming on her arm.

She sighed and outstretched her paw. "Help me up."

He pulled her up and wrapped his arm around her waist. "Oh!" She was surprised.

She blushed as he pecked her mouth. "I can't dance."

"Okay," he spun her away from him, reeling her back in and catching her.

She blushed deeply, going along with his dance. They danced for a long while, laughing loudly.

Heaving after the dance, Kira inquired, "You ever try and do anything with your fire?"

Rowen cocked his head.

"Play with it." she, with an open paw, swung her arm to the side. A violent rush of wind smashed into the two.

"Uh, okay."

Flick.

"Wait!" Kira grabbed him and led him over to the lake. "Please don't burn the forest down."

With a sneer, Rowen sloppily thrust his arm forward. The flame pitifully tumbled out of his paw, and with a 'plop', it drowned.

"Whoa! It's like a ball!" Kira was intrigued, "Try hurling it!"

Flick.

Grasping the flame, he put his arm back, and hurled the flame. It flew across the lake, sailing; reflecting off of the glass-like water. It looked as if it had flown into itself, until steam rose and hissed from circular ripples. The flame was no more.

Rowen made a curious sound of excitement, making Kira wonder if he was okay.

"Babe, do it again."

Flick.

Fire took flight.

"Hurragh!" With a fierce war cry, Kira thrust her arm out toward the shooting flame. The fireball shot to the right, splashing into the lake off of it's original course.

"Whoa!" Rowen ran over to Kira, kissing her on the cheek. "That was fun."

Flick.

He threw the fireball straight up, running to the side, praying it didn't land on him.

Kira raised her arm, she brought the flaming ball down with a semi-circular motion, flinging it back up high into the sky. She let it fall, then slammed it into the lake with a massive splash.

"You can do it too. You can control your birth element, or your first learned element. Pretend to catch it while it flies," she guided him, leaning her elbows on his shoulder.

Flick.

Tossing it up, he extended his arm, it stopped falling, then immediately began falling again.

Rowen made an exasperated noise.

"Just try again." she warmed him with a smile, looking extra cute. The fact that she was teaching him probably lent to her cuteness.

Flick.

He tossed the flame again, he swiped with his paw, and he seemed to push it diagonally before it plopped into the lake.

"Dammit," Rowen breathed.

Kira kissed his cheek, "C'mon babe, just take it nice and easy." She grasped his right paw.

Her paws are warm.

Flick.

Tossing it up, he tightened his grip on her paw. He extended his arm and caught his fireball in mid-air. It floated about seven feet away from him. "Wow."

He moved his arm side to side, the ball followed, but it had weight to it, like he was maneuvering a medium-sized sack of potatoes in mid-air.

"How did you do it then? You are an air element, aren't you?"

"I am not actually controlling your fireballs, I am manipulating the air around them. What you are doing is more akin to telekinesis. If I were a water element, I would be able to lift water and make waterballs. Since you are fire, you should be able to control any fire." Kira explained.

Rowen licked his lips, "Ah, a battle between two mages of the same element must be fantastic." His mind raced thinking of skilled flamemages locked in an epic battle.

"I can imagine an air element battle to be a sight." Kira too was lost in her mind.

"Kira, what is it like? Controlling air?"

"It is kind of scary actually. The most obvious power is wind, but I've heard that some powerful airmages can manipulate the actual elements that infuse the air. Like removing oxygen. Or even adding poisonous gasses into it." She kissed him thoughtfully, lowering her ears.

Gladly accepting her advance, he smirked mischievously. He had an idea.

"Okay, I'm ready!" Kira yelled.

A faint flick sounded from a distance, followed by the sight of a fireball hurtling towards her face.

"Hrugh!" Kira yelled, sending the fireball back at her lover.

A thunderous hiss of fire sounded, accompanied by the screaming of a speeding flame. The blazing sun was shot back at her. She jumped and twirled sideways in the air, one arm raised, landing on one knee.

Rowen's eyes widened, amazed at her eloquence.

Suddenly, "Oh shit!" Rowen stuck his arm out and swiped. The sun exploded into the water. A foot more, a second longer; if he hadn't diverted the missile, he would have likely been killed.

Rowen stood there, panting. Kira came running over to him with a little jiggle. He exclaimed, breathlessly, "Babe, that was amazing." He leaned on his knees with his arms.

Kira blew a gentle wind. She bent over, smiling cheekily at his face. Her hair danced a slow dance in the wind. "That was fun." She laughed calmly, she now wore a calm, almost sensual demeanor.

Rowen was immediately calm. He holds her. Arm wrapped around her back, he leans her back and kisses her.

He seems so mature. Kira thought to herself, fiery cheeks sat under closed eyes.

The breeze picked up slightly, Kira's eyes now open.

Rowen stared into her, admiring her soul through the deep emerald galaxies which project her very being. Bringing a tender claw from her stomach, tracing a path up to her chest, gingerly scratching her neck and chin. Gently wrapping his paw around snout, he licked her nose. Bringing a paw up her face, he pushed the hair out of her face, still supporting her hips. Now holding the back of her head, he kissed her deeply and gently laid her down, still kissing her.

"Let's do this again," Rowen took a hasty tongue to her neck.

Gently pushing him off of her, "Yes."

He laid his head on her soft chest and a paw on her strong thigh, petting her.

"Guhhh," an exasperated sigh escaped him, "We still have three more Foodicide balls to eat each! One more here, two more at home." Kira groaned dramatically. She held him still against her breast, "Watch this."

"Whaa?" he sat up and leaned into her.

She held an arm out, pointer and middle finger extended. She snapped her wrist up. Wave's shot across the water's surface, like a razor had been dropped right down the middle.

"Try it."

Sticking his arm out, he did exactly as she had, but slowly flicking his wrist.

A hiss of inferno materialized and leisurely glided away from his paw.

"Harder."

He flicked his wrist hard. A flaming sphere shot straight out of his arm, eventually engulfing the other fireball, which had still been traveling, before slamming into the pulsating waters.

Rowen was speechless.

"The more forceful you are, the faster it will travel. The only difference with this fireball is, instead of it arching like when you throw it, this will continue on a linear path until it hits something, or dies in the air." She explained with a yawn, sprawling herself out over the relaxing Rowen's legs. She stretched and moaned cutely, eyes closed, fangs shimmering in the sunlight.

Rowen stroked his mate's head.

"I'm tired." she breathed, "sooo much food." her tongue lolled out of her mouth.

"But the taste was well worth it, right?"

"Ughh, yes." The tired raccoon agreed, closing her eyes.

Rowen rubbed her thighs, "Sweet dreams, love."

Kira gives Rowen a quick kiss and falls asleep on his legs.
