The wind bristled Gale's fur through the arms of his robes, the sound of the metal emblems attached to the robes making his ears twitch every now and then. The air was filled with the smell of the flowers in the field below, the sweet smell caused Gale to smile under his hood. He always loved these types of days, just enough sun and wind for him to feel warm on the inside even though it was early December.

"Hey, high and mighty. Get down here."

Gale looked down to the group of humans that sat half-way up the hill. He quickly ran the hill, going onto my side and using the grass to stop my approach.

"Show off," one of the girls said. She was tall, lean and had medium brown hair.

"You know it," he winked.

"Why do you always where your uniform? Surely people will notice a black furred wolf in a snow white assassin themed robe outfit."

"Because I have a heritage to hold and I plan to continue it. Anyway, what did you want?"

"To talk, you've been standing there like a king on his throne for the past five minutes." This time it was Jake that talked, a medium sized man with a muscular physic. Glade would never admit it under normal circumstances but he had a sort of crush on him.

"But I looked majestic, did I not?" Gale asked rhetorically.

"That's not the point," the first girl said. "We're worried Gale."

"Worried? You don't need to worry about me guys and girls."

"But we do, you haven't been with anyone. And we all know wolves need mates."

"Perhaps I'm different," Gale said. The group all looked at him with an eyebrow up, it was actually quiet comical to look at. "Maybe a person like me doesn't need a mate."

"Well don't go crazy on us will you?

"I'm not going to go round humping everything that moves you know."

The group laughed at this, as they got up snow fell around us. Gale looked up at the sky, slowly closing his eyes and letting the snow fall onto his clothes. Gale always loved snowfall, especially at sunset. Gale opened his eyes again and saw everyone else looking at the sunset, all except one. Jake was looking at him with a smile on his face, but when he noticed Gale looking at him too he blushed and looked away, looking angry with himself. Gale nodded his head to the forest, indicating that he wanted to talk. They walked off silently while the group started heading back.

The group was used to Gale walking off without saying much, but Jake, it was strange for him.

Gale and Jake walked through the shadow caused by the trees, stepping over roots and branches. Only a few snowflakes made it through the forest leafs, landing softly onto the brown forest floor. Gale went to one of the gaps in between two roots and sat in comfort.

Jake smiled, "what are you doing?"

"Relaxing," Gale sighed, eyes closed in pleasure. "This is how I relax."

"But you're Gale, you never relax."

"No, I never let you see me relax." Gale explained, looking up at him.

"Gale I want to tell you something and I wanted to tell for a while, and I think this is the best place to."

"What is it?" Gale asked. Jake looked at him nervously, going to speak but stopping. Gale got up from the tree and looked at Jake with worry "Well spit it out."

"Gale, I... I... no I can't."

Gale looked at him with a raised eyebrow. "Jake, I'm going to find out sooner or later. So you might as well tell me."

"I- I love you," he whispered.

"What?"

"I love you, the god damned queer loves you!" Jake shouted through tears, turning and sobbing into a tree. He slowly moved down and into a ball, getting ready for Gale to do his worst on him.

Gale went to him and put a paw on his shoulder, which flinched at the touch.

"Leave me alone," Jake said sadly. "Please."

"Jake look at me," Gale said, turning him around. "Believe me when I tell you, I love you,"

Jake seemed to just melt as buried his face into Gale's thick neck fur, seeking comfort. "You mean it?"

"Do I mean it? Jake I love you more than the most beautiful nights. I love you more than even howling at the full moon. I don't care if you're a guy, you're more than everything to me."

Both Gale and Jake looked at each other, love and passion travelled between them. Their lips met in the middle, their embrace warmer and more loving than either could ever thought possible. The embrace seemed to last forever, arms at each other's back, lips in the middle. But as all good things it came to an end with both Gale and Jake looking deeply into each other's eyes, the snow already forming a thin layer on their clothes.

"I'm so sorry about not telling you," Jake apologized.

"It's ok, I know you didn't mean anything by it." Gale reassured him, giving him a lick him on the cheek.

They both got up slowly, letting the snow crumble off of their forms. They stood for a moment, saving the feeling of each other's embrace.

Gale took his phone out secretly and put some waltz music on, returning the phone to his pocket as the music started.

Jake looked up at Gale and smiled, starting to rotate and move in a circle in the snowy forest, one hand around Gale and one holding his paw. Jake put his head onto his upper chest, savouring the moment.

The waltz music came to a slow stop and the two of them stood in the cold wintery night, looking into each other's eyes deeply. For a minute they stayed this way then their feet started to walk in the direction of both of their homes. As both of them walked slowly home, Gale's paw entered Jakes hand. They both exited the forest and came to the field, which was mostly empty by now.

"So should we go to yours or mine?" Jake asked.

"I don't mind," Gale said giving him a kiss on the lips.

Before Gale could do anything a human ran up to the two of them and a shot fired through the crispy air and into Jake's stomach, spilling blood onto the lightly snow covered grass and onto Gale's clothes. Gale turned to face the human with gun in his hand, aiming at him. Before Gale knew what he was doing he took a thick branch from the ground with lightning speed, blocked the bullet, and threw it at the man. The branch hit the human square in the face, causing him to slump to the ground. Gale fell to his knees beside Jake, his eyes looking into Gale's.

"Jake, don't die. Please, not now, I can't live without you." He sobbed into Jake's clothes, the sounds of sirens heightening on the wind. Gale heard a slight sound come from Jake's mouth, he looked up and saw Jake trying to speak.

Jake slowly opened his mouth, "Aren't you going to ask me?" His voice was weak and soft as he asked. Blood trickled from his stomach, covering his white shirt with crimson blood.

"Ask you what?" Gale asked, a small smile on his maw. Tears trickled through his fur and landing into the blood.

"To be your mate, I thought it was what wolves ask when they confess their love to someone."

"Never thought you'd would be the one giving me a culture lesson," Gale chuckled. "Jake Cox, will you be my mate?"

"Thought you'd never ask," he half heartedly joked, making Gale smile again. "It would be an honour."

Red and blue lights flashed on and off as a police car and an ambulance came to a stop near them. The officers going to the, still knocked out, attempted murderer while the paramedics headed to Gale and Jake.
