#2 of Goddess of the Sea

Sorry that this took so long to hash out, but there have been a few things taking up all the rest of my time.

Hope you enjoy the read and as always. I can't write a better story if I don't get comments and commentary.

Goddess of the Sea

Ch. 2

It'd taken a few extra minutes for her to finally decide on where she wished to go, but eventually she decided on one place that she'd absolutely never be able to go without the helpful hint of her newfound friend. 'I really should thank him for suggesting that idea,' she thought to herself as she and her human finally made it to land and to that she let him slowly slide down her wing to stand next to her. So engrossed with the realization of where she was she nearly jumped out of her feathers when she felt something/someone place a gentle hand upon her neck.

A soft snort of laughter could be heard and she knew it was her human that'd surprised her, but she couldn't blame the human for laughing at her jumpiness, she was a bit tightly wound from the realization of where she was. Ever so slowly she snaked around her head around to look at her human, but at that moment the human's attention was drawn upwards and a soft/whistling tune could be heard coming from him. 'If he thinks he can just play off laughing at me and acting like nothing happened,' she slowly turned about and gave him a gentle nudge with her beak. 'Alright human, since you seem to find it amusing to laugh at me. You will pay me back by being my guide around this place.' She knew that it really wasn't that much of a payback, but right at that moment all she could think about was where she was and in how much danger she'd be in if someone else were to realize who/what she was.

"I'd be more than happy to show you around," the human admitted, giving her a mock bow as if to submit to her whim. "But might I suggest that we stop off somewhere first..." this got her to quirk an eyebrow at the human. "I need to...check on something," he admitted and through her mental abilities she could tell that there was something bothering him. Feeling a bit responsible for his predicament, as well as keeping him so long in her cave/home while his wounds healed, she nodded to him in acknowledgement of his request. After all, she did want to spend what little time there was left before he were to leave her; with him, but if he were in a sour mood the whole time due to her keeping him preoccupied with her wishes, she'd feel just as bad.

'This thing you need to check on,' she paused in thought for a moment before continuing, 'Is it close to the water?'This got the human to quirk an eyebrow at her, but all she returned was that of a pleasant/nervous smile. The smile was a mask though as she really didn't feel all that comfortable about using her ability out in the open as she was and if need be she could easily retreat to that of the water if the situation required it for her to make a quick exit or escape to the safety of the ocean's depths.

The human took a look down the beach that they'd emerged on from the water, back to her, then back down the length of the beach."I guess we could get to it by walking down the beach, but it'll take us a while to get there."

She looked down at him in a bit of confusion, not really understanding why he was so hesitant about the walk. It was him who decided to come up to this part of the land from her underwater home after all and if he wanted to emerge closer to wherever he wanted to go, why hadn't he said so in the first place. 'Then, why did you think coming to shore here would be a good thing?' She asked him to which he simply pointed off towards something in the distance. Following the direction he was pointing she gazed out over the horizon and cocked her head to the side in confusion.

"I just thought that we could go through the town over there and see the sights," he admitted to which took her back a bit.

'Does he have so much faith in me that he is unconcerned of the consequences if my new ability should fail?' She asked herself as she looked down at him then back towards the town she was now able to see far off in the distance.

"But...if you want to have a nice walk along the beach, we could do that too," he said, but when she probed into his mind she noticed that in truth the way that he was pointing would be quicker than the long walk around the island to that of the destination he wanted to get to. But before she pulled out of the humans mind she caught a slight glimpse of something...some image of someone.

'Now that was strange...I wonder who that was he was just thinking about?' She wanted to go back into his mind and find that image once again, as it seemed to be of someone of importance and looked to have been wearing something very intriguing, but she wanted more to get going and keep her human in high spirits for the long walk around the island. The only problem, as they began walking down the beach, was as they passed people generally enjoying the sun and beach weather, people began to gawk at her. 'Why is it that all these people are staring at me?'

As if sensing her uneasiness, her human stopped in mid stride, turned, and looked up at her. After looking up at her for a while he turned and began to stare around at the onlookers. "You're using that ability aren't you?" He asked, but quickly covered over his mouth as she turned her gaze down to him and scowled at him.

'Of course I am. But still people are looking at me and their expressions are...unnerving me,' she said as she turned from looking down at him to gaze about her and scowl at each of the people staring at her, while others were looking at her out of the corner of their eyes while whispering something to their neighbor.

"I don't get it; why is it that I can still see you then?"

Taking her gaze away from the people looking at her, she looked down at the human and could see he had a confused look on his face.'Because you know what I look like and you expect to see me as I truly am.' He raised an eyebrow up at her, but then he seemed to get a spark of an idea and turned to look over at the people looking at her.

"Then, if I can see you as you truly are, what do they see you as?"

She had to admit that the human did pose an interesting question. 'What do these humans see me as?' To which she turned to a couple who were staring at her and her human, then peaked into their minds. 'Wait a moment, why do they each see me as something different?' This confused her for a brief moment before she turned her gaze back down to her human and saw him still looking up at her with his eyebrow raised. 'I do not understand myself. I just looked into those human's minds and they each see me as something different,' she sent to him as well as nodded towards a loving couple not far away.

The human turned to look the direction she nodded towards and could see a man and a women looking in their direction. "What do they see you as?" He asked as he jerked his chin towards the on-looking couple.

She peaked into their minds for a brief moment again and could see that the male saw her as a beautiful women, one even more attractive than that of the women by his side, while the female had an image of her as being a very muscled male with little to nothing on and what could only be something bulging within a small piece of cloth between his legs. That image shook her a bit and she literally had to shake her head for a moment to clear the disturbing image out of her mind. 'They see me as separate things.'

"You mean that they see you as what they want?"She didn't really understand what he meant by that question but for some reason she kind of got the gist of what he was trying to imply. "That could be a problem...maybe you should have them see you as only one thing."

She wanted to press him further for why this was a bad thing, but for the moment it'd probably be best just to go on ahead and did as he suggested. 'I guess you do have another point, but what do I have them perceive me as?' He looked up at her in confusion to which she just rolled her eyes. 'What should I make them believe they are looking at then?'

Lowering his head slightly and tapping at his chin for a moment, to which showed that he was probably deep in thought at the moment, he finally just shrugged and looked towards the town once more. 'Does he believe that what I should look like is in the town over there?' She wondered for a brief moment before another image of something popped into his mind. She had to admit that what she saw was something that she really hadn't been expecting, but in that...quite intriguing. 'If I'm looking at his mind and he perceived that image from the town, I wonder if there's a person really dressed like that.'

"I guess for now, you should probably just have people see you as a girl walking beside me," he stopped in mid-sentence as if another thought was coming to him. "Probably just mimic the appearance of someone here on the beach and...," he stopped in mid thought once again as he turned and looked over towards me. At first his expression was that of confusions, but it became quite comical as his mouth fell open and his eyes opened wide in shock. She decided to have a bit of fun with him as she slowly altered her ability one way or another, judging his reaction to the image she was portraying, and altering it to have the best image possible. Once she was done she turned towards a building that wasn't that far away, one of which that had a set of windows looking out over the water and gazed at her form.

Where she expected to see a reflection of herself, now stood a woman, roughly about her human's height, long silver/white hair that reached roughly down to the middle of her back that billowed/moved ever so gently with the slightest breath of the seas breeze, pale skin that seemed to never been touched by more than a few hours of sunlight a day, pale blue eyes that reminded her of the frozen north, and a very appealing figure that she'd only seen on a very select few female human's forms. With the completion of what she looked like as a human done, she began to wonder what she should wear; as most humans wore some kind of clothing. With a satisfied nod to her form she focused on an outfit and took another look in the far off glass.

The outfit that she had on was no doubt that of a one piece, light blue with slight green tint bathing suit, and to her own amazement it hugged her imaginary form quite well. From the collar that wrapped around her neck the outfit split off to show quite a bit off quite a bit of cleavage, a diamond open cut that showed off a flat stomach, and by the way the outfit looked she imagined that the back was probably one of those open ones as well. 'Wow..., I look good in a bathing suit,' she thought to herself before she remembered that the image she was looking at was nothing more than that of something her mind came up with. It was with that she turned back to her human and looked down at him.

'Wait a moment, why is this image in his mind?'She wondered as she peaked into her human's mind and found that the image of the women she projecting was of someone he'd seen before. 'Care to explain why this woman seems so familiar?' She asked him as she slowly lowered her head down to his level and got right in his face.

"I uh...," he stammered a few times as if he was really put on the spot; only a second later he made a dash off down the beach.

'Is he serious? I could easily catch up with him,' though in a bit of an afterthought she thought it was almost cute that he thought he could get away from her. 'Playing hard to get...I think I just found him even more enticing,' with that her scowl quickly turned to that of one of a large and growing smile and she quickly gave chase. It was quite comical to chase after the human, as the images that came to her from those that they passed were of him running from a very attractive woman, but the others were from him as he ran from her in her regular form.

Just out of fun, she allowed him to keep a slight distance ahead of her. Often he would dodge between trees, run around small houses, duck into thin allies, but all the while she'd just fly over those/any obstacles and then drop down in front of him. She had to admit that her human was in a great shape for one of his age, but the chase couldn't go on forever, and as she peaked into his mind she realized that he was actually heading towards his intended destination that was coming up fairly quickly. By the time that we'd reached his destination he was nearly done in by how much energy he'd expended, but the place that he was heading was quite...beautiful. The place was a very nice house, slightly back from the beach, and had an atmosphere of peace and relaxation all about it.

It was only with the sound of something slamming that I came out of my moment and realized that somehow my human had escaped into the house. 'If you think you can hide in there, you had better think again,' she sent to him and could only laugh to herself as she felt how scared he was.

Deciding to check out the building he was in, ambush him, and give him a good scare, she slowly made her way around the building and found that there was a large set of glass doors that opened onto that of beech. Ever so slowly she snaked her head around the building and looked in through the glass doors, but what she saw within made her pause. The interior of the building was sparsely furnished with furniture and decorations that one would expect to find there/here on the islands, (Bamboo furniture, ornate shells of different sizes and shapes, and pictures depicting different places and attractions around the island) but further back; facing towards a single room, her human stood alone and looking ill at ease.

At first she thought that now would be a perfect time to give him a good scare and play with him, but upon seeing the look of disbelief/sadness did she realize that something bad had just occurred to him.She watched him stand there for a few moments, but just before she was going to ask him why he was just standing there and not running from her, she saw that there was something wrong with his eyes. 'Why are his eyes leaking?' She wondered for a brief moment and as she peaked into his mind once more she realized that it wasn't so much that his eyes were leaking, it was from a deep sense of grief.

"Did they just forget about me?" The human said finally after what could only be that of an eternity, though in actuality it was probably just about five or ten minutes. To say the least I was quite confused about the statement, but by the look on his face and the statement, I could tell that whoever had forgotten about him must have come as a hard blow to the emotions. Still not really knowing what was going on I decided to take a peek in his mind, but not into his thoughts.

Looking through his eyes I could see that the room that he was looking at seemed to be ready for a new occupant; to which confused me quite a bit as I wasn't sure what that/this meant to him. 'What happened human, did something go wrong?' I asked him to which I only felt more grief pour out of him and his eyes to let out more water from his eyes.

"My family...," he started to say, only to stop in mid-sentence as he choked back a sob. "My family didn't even leave me my cloths...," sniff, "Before they returned to the mainland."

By the way he was reacting to that small bit of knowledge it seemed that he'd never even considered this to be a possibility.'I can relate,' she thought and began to move forward to go inside the building and hold him close. 'We truly are two a kind,' she thought as she remembered the time...long ago, that she too had lost her family. Feeling a bit more akin to that of her human, she felt a sense of warmth grow within her. 'Maybe this is the reason why I was so drawn to him, we are so much akin to each other that we know the pain of being abandoned by those that we once were considered family.'

With a bit of a shock at the way her thoughts were going, as well as how the god was bringing us together, she began to move forward to wrap her wings about him in a hug; but it was also at that movement that she forgot about the glass doors and bumped her beak into the transparent barrier. Not really understanding what'd just happened she reeled back for a moment and rubbed at her beak. 'What in the...' It was also at that moment, after she'd stopped rubbing her non-existent pain in her beak that she noticed that her human was staring at her with wide eyes that slowly turned to one of mirth. Not really expecting him to show mirth at her plight of bumping her beak into that of the glass doorway, she was about to reprimand him for laughing at her embarrassment, but decided to go against it as it looked like he needed a good laugh to break him out of the sadness he was in at the moment.

'Find something amusing human?' She asked him in a bit of a consequential sort of tone, to which the human quickly clamped a hand over his mouth and tried to hold back a laugh; but it was the mirth in his eyes that seemed to warm her heart and she couldn't help but smirk at his attempt to hide his amusement at her embarrassment.

She was about to use her abilities to pull him out of there and really give him a scolding, when she noticed that the door at the far side of the building was beginning to move. Slightly alarmed at the idea that someone was entering the building, she quickly pulled herself back and out of sight.

"What the...who the hell are you and what are you doing in my home?" Came a voice of someone that could only belong to that of the new arrival. She was quite upset that someone would have the audacity to talk to her human in such a tone, especially while she was about, but knowing that she really wasn't in any position to do anything that would draw unwanted attention to her and her human, she decided to wait and see how things progressed, and would only step in if things got unpleasant..

"I was with the family that previously rented this place," her human snapped back, to which she was a bit happy that at least he wasn't that much of a push over. "My family left early on business, but said that I could stay on a few more days."

Ever so slowly she lowered her head and peaked into the building out of one of the corners of the glass doors. She could see that her human had a very unpleasant/angry look on his face. 'I do not envy that other person right now,' she thought and she felt herself smile as she eagerly waited to see how her human would act to this man.

"I even heard them talk to you over the phone about this," her human moved forward and grabbed the man by the shirt. "Now I think I deserve and explanation as to where all my belongings are."

'It is good to see that my human has a bit of a temper. That way if...' she stopped in mid thought as she realized that she was missing the action, and quickly peered back into the building. 'Oh boy, it looks as if things are really about to get heated in there,' she thought as she noticed that the new comers expression had turned from one of shock, to that of horror.

"I ah, um...I don't have those things anymore," was the other man's excuse and by the way that my human looked at the man, I knew that the new arrival was really going to get it.

(Some Time Later)

"Let me see if I've got that right...you want to buy a full day of wind surfing lessons and...book a family of four for a snorkeling," came a voice that seemed to be talking to one's self, but as she turned and looked around the small, open/door building she saw that it was just that of her human talking on the phone once more. "That'll be...," I tuned him out at that point as a smile slowly grew on my beak as I looked at how content he looked at his new occupation.

As things turned out, the man that'd sold all my humans possessions and had made quite a few Pokédollars off it all, to which my human threatened him with a very large lawsuit (Whatever that meant). The man fearing my human's wrath of whatever/whoever these Lawyers were/are; agreed to give it all back; though when he tried to get my humans things back, the company said that they were already sold. I could almost feel my human's wrath about ready to be unleashed on the other poor human, but was surprised by the final decision. Since the Pokédollars that the other human got from my human's possessions were used to buy/purchase his current business, the human suggested that he get a cut from the profits of any sales. Needless to say that the other human had no head or idea about running a business and if it weren't for my human, the business would have gone under quite a while ago.

'And how goes the business today?' I asked my human as I stepped around the building, dressed in my usual bathing outfit. My human turned and looked over his shoulder to give me a slow once over, then a pleasant smile, as if wanting to take in all he saw of me.

"Just finishing up the last booking for the month," he said with a pleasant nod as he hung up the phone and began putting the papers away. "I take it that you're here to pick me up for our dinner show?"

I gave him a knowing smirk and placed both my hands on my hips. 'And you had better be ready in the next few moments; otherwise I will be dragging you out of there.' I said to him in a menacing tone, to which I 'would' drag him out of this place if he didn't hurry up.

It only took him a few more minutes to close up the building, and once he had he gave me a hug. To those that were on-looking it appeared to them that all he was doing was hugging a very attractive female human, but in truth he was hugging my head. "And what have you been up to all day?" He asked me to which I could only smile at him.

"Nothing too...much," I said to him to which my mind played over the few times I decided to experiment with my abilities as well as play a few jokes on a few humans. One incident earlier popped into my head that had a human male come up to me and try and...'Hit on me' (As my human had described it to me once). As it seemed this other human had found my image I'd been portraying myself as had tried to 'cup a feel', to which I had simply used a bit of my psychic abilities to give him a rather...hard slap to his face that ended up with him losing his balance, falling off the dock that we had been on, and into the water.

My human stopped walking to turn and look at me over his shoulder and in that look I saw one of his eyebrows rise in question or curiosity. Though I knew that look and a part of me wanted to tell him of the things and jokes I played on a few of the towns folk, I knew that it would only upset him and we really couldn't afford to delay that much if we wanted to get to our appointed dinner. 'I will probably tell you about it later. For right now, we have to get to the dinner.'

"I'll hold you to that," he said back to me once he'd turned and faced me. But though his face went from that of curiosity to that of acknowledgement, I could see a slight twinkle in his eyes that was a dead giveaway to the humor that lay within. Somewhere deep down he knew that I'd probably been goofing around the town and he could only laugh a little at the thoughts of what those things could have been.

I wanted to tease him a little more about the whole thing about him running behind, but when I peeked into his mind to find the real reason about why he was late, all I got was a mental image of something else. For some reason he was fixated on that image, but as if he could sense her probing into his mind; the image quickly faded back into the fog of his mind. 'And just was that you were thinking about?' The human faltered in his step for a moment before recomposing himself, but even though it was only that of a single misstep, she knew she'd struck a chord.

With nervous laugh the human scratched at the back of his head and said that it was only that of a fleeting thought and that it wasn't that of a big deal; but I was unsatisfied with his answer and quickly walked around him to stare the answer out of him. Finally, unable to either get away or pass off the subject under some kind of excuse the human let out a long breath and bowed his head. "It was something I saw from a flier about the dinner we're going to see," he admitted. "The flier had a picture of one of the actors in the dinner and I thought she looked a lot like you."

This, she thought, was something she really hadn't foreseen. She thought from the image that he was remembering another woman that'd caught his eye and to that was hoping to see again; but now knowing what was really behind the image she couldn't help but feel a bit ashamed of accusing or prying into his thoughts. 'You were trying to keep that detail about the dinner a secret weren't you?' She asked him to which he nodded to and she felt even more ashamed of peeking into his mind.

There was a long drawn out pause, to which lead to that of an uncomfortable silence, but was finally broken when she felt a small hand light caress her cheek. Slowly looking up she saw that it was her human and unlike the look of anger she thought she'd see when she met his gaze, all she saw was one of understanding. "When I first saw that poster of the dinner, I couldn't help but think of how similar the two of you look," he paused for a bit to give my cheek another long caress. "I mean, it was like that person was trying to imitate you or something."

'Doing a horrible job of it no doubt.' I said back to him to which he nervously chuckled to and nodded.
