Unseen Colors, Act Three
Act Three: Orange!
I looked up to the violet sky as I leaned on the balcony's metal bars a little harder and began asking questions to myself. I still wondered why the Ra would want to attack earth and how it would benefit them in the war against us. I guess it doesn't really matter, this was both a depleting and exiting moment to me; this would be the first time we introduce ourselves to earth, yet, a part of me worried how the earth people would take it; I've heard stories of a government facility the human's refer to as "aria 51"and how they claimed to have caught and dissected life from other planets, but others say it's just a myth, and frankly I don't quite feel like finding out.
I looked down to the business of the city below and wondered how much different earth's cities would be from ours. I knew that our planet and the human's planet had much in common, but the human's technology was slightly more advanced so we claimed to be following them when it comes to technology, architecture and other economics. Though the government doesn't relies a whole lot of information about the human's, I have heard rumors about the main country called 'America' was actually at a downfall and many people believe that it will crash and burn very soon if they don't get out of debt, but then again, that was a problem that wasn't my, or my planets concern, even if that will soon be the last thing on their list...
Saxon woke with the sun shining brightly in his eyes and the glow of his dream slowly fading. He sat upright and opened his eyes to find himself in a bed and bedroom and began to wonder where he was. Memory took its time getting back to him, but when he did remember, he began looking around frantically for Kat. She was nowhere to be found and Saxon was beginning to worry. Judging by the position of the sun, it was still early morning and Kat's scent still lingered, so she couldn't have gotten far.
The wolf jumped out of bed, out the door and began to descend the stairs when a sweet smelling aroma struck his nose, stopping him mid-step. The smell of meat cooking and thick sugar filled the air as Saxon slowly made his way back down the stairs. He stepped onto the last step and heard the faint sound of humming coming from behind a half closed door. As he drew nearer, the humming turned into the quiet singing of Kat's voice and he was able to make out the lyrics. The song was slow and relaxing, but in a sense, somewhat happy. Saxon walked quietly to the crack of the door and peaked through to see Kat wearing her red tank top and remarkably high cut shorts that defiantly defended her rear.
Saxon's cheeks burned bright red as he tried not to look through respect and dignity, but it was certainly hard not too... her body was slim and tight, as though he could wrap his entire arm around her without much effort. For being such a strange creature that bore no fur, making her look nude even though she wore clothing, she was quite beautiful.
Saxon shook his head as he realized the strange feelings that washed over him. He found himself weird for becoming attracted to a figure of a completely different species. Besides, he reasoned with himself. She hates me, she'd never feel the same way...
The same way?
That made it sound as if he had convinced himself that he had already fallen for her, but he hadn't... had he? Frustrated with the sudden flair of confusion and self-doubt, Saxon sucked up the argument with himself and opened the door. Before he could announce his presents, a loud creak did that for him. Kat whirled around, eyes wide with startle as she laid eyes on the larger male, but calmed down as she seemed to remember who he was.
"Morning," she said, forcing a smile to try and look polite. "I found some food that hasn't spoiled yet and decided to make some bacon and pancakes. I would have made eggs as well, but they were all broken and rotted," she turned and motioned for a table amongst the nearly destroyed kitchen with a pile of pancakes on a couple of napkins and a bunch of bacon on a set out rag not too far away. "There's some syrup on the table if you want some. I couldn't find any plates that weren't already broken so I grabbed a silver platter and some clean looking rags instead."
Saxon nodded. "Thank you." Kat made a face and went back to what she was doing (trying to open a large container, Saxon noticed). He walked over to the table and sat in a chair that creaked and crackled under his weight, making him somewhat nervous to make any sudden actions. After a moment, the chair seemed to support his weight just fine, easing his nerves so he could start to eat in peace.
The wolf looked over the food until his eyes rested on a translucent container with think brown liquid inside. He picked it up and sniffed it a little before popping the lid and looked inside. Syrup, that what she called it right? It smelled harmless enough, and Kat wouldn't give him anything poisonous, would she? Taking a leap of faith, Saxon brought the top of the bottle to his lips and tilted his head back, feeling the chilly, thick syrup roll onto his tongue lazily. At first, it had a rather strong taste, but after a moment it started to taste sweeter and sweeter as he played with it in his mouth, soaking in the flavor a little more before swallowing.
Clearly satisfied, he licked his lips and looked over to Kat with a toothy grin. Kat stared back in minor disbelief. "What?" Saxon asked looking from the bottle back to Kat. "What'd I do?"
Kat gave a forced frown and shook her head. "Nothing, nothing at all. Hope you like it."
"I do, very much. You called this syrup, right?"
"Yeah, maple flavored..."
Saxon's eyes went wide. "There's other flavors?"
Kat nodded and walked over to a broken cabinet and pulled out two more bottles of syrup. Saxon smiled and licked his lips, his tail began to wag faster and faster before he abruptly froze. He shook his head and held up the bottle of syrup. "It's okay, I like this one. I don't think addictions are something that should be encouraged, given our current predicament."
She shrugged and set the bottles on the counter. She turned and started to make her way for the kitchen door. "I'm going to get dressed," she said without stopping or even looking in his direction. "Be back in a minute."
I looked over my shoulder to see Pixel, a tempting and beautiful young vixen. She leaned on my bed with her exposed breasts against the surface so they were just barely visible. Her tail swayed back and forth as she watched me with patient eyes.
As her ocean blue eyes met mine, she smiled and flicked an ear, telling me that she wanted me to come back to bed. I returned the smile and began to make my way back to her, not wanting to keep her waiting much longer.
"So how old are you?" Kat asked as she and Saxon walked down the street. They had decided before they left that they'd try to find some clue as to how to get out and hopefully to safety.
"One hundred and eighty-nine on my planet." He said, drawing a surprised look from Kat. Remembering some of the teachings that he had before he left planet Gashia, he rubbed a sour spot behind his ear thoughtfully. The teachers had told him that humans barely live to see ninety years on this planet, so a one hundred and eighty-nine year old (and still young) creature walking amongst the living must come as quite a shock. "We calculate our days and years much like you humans do," he began, trying to remember how the teachers explained it. "And our planet orbits around our sun a bit quicker than Earth does, so our years pass by a little faster than yours. So here, I'm only twenty-seven."
Kat nodded, but still kept her eyes on him for a moment longer before finally looking away. He could tell that she was thinking about something, but whatever it was is beyond him. As silence rolled over, Saxon began to let his mind wonder. One thought led to another and before he could grasp it, he was daydreaming about Kat; picturing her close to him, in his bed, touching-
Wait! He forced the thoughts out of his mind. What was happening to him? Ever since he's arrived on this planet, he's hormones have sky-rocketed. He often finds himself thinking about women now, but after he met Kat it's just been getting worse to the point of discomfort. Hold on, didn't the teachers say something about side effects from the earth's atmosphere?
"Forgive me," Saxon said, clearing his thought to get Kat's attention. "But what month is it here?"
"Probably late March, but I'm not sure. I don't know how long I was in that cage."
That's right, Saxon thought. He remembered what the teachers have warned about. They said that humans weren't the only creatures that inhabited earth. He had been told of a species that was remarkably close to his own, but he couldn't remember what they were called. They belonged to the canine family... coyotes, was that it? No, that doesn't sound right. Fox? No that's not it either...
"Sorry for the questions," he spoke up again. "But would you happen to know the name of the race that looks like me? I believe that there are many subspecies, but the general name would do me just fine."
"What?" Kat arched a brow. "Like a wolf?"
Wolf! That's what they're called. "Yes, thank you." Kat hummed in response but didn't say anything otherwise.
Saxon remembered that the teachers had told him that a lot of the species here on earth go through what the humans call; a mating season, and a branch of the canine family go through this 'mating season' from January to approximately April. They had also informed him that since his particular race was closest to the wolves that he too would go through the season's side effects. They said that he should begin to feel it when he touched down on the planet's surface and would experience several side effects, such as; sexual thoughts, arousal, and the urge to mate with nearly anything that moved. Sex, that's what the humans called it right? Or was it called 'Hooking Up'? Or maybe it was 'Getting Hitched'... Saxon had no idea, the humans have a strange dialect that the higher educated normally called 'slang'. He had been told that slang would be hard to understand, but now that he was here on earth, it is a lot harder to pick apart words than he had originally thought.
He felt like asking Kat how humans mated (the teachers had told him how, though they weren't always accurate with their information), but he had been told that it was a touchy subject and most humans find it somewhat offensive, especially if a male and a female discus it, so he held his tongue.
I woke to the sound of an explosion not too far off in the distance. The balcony door was still open and the sound of sirens and screaming was overwhelming to my sensitive ears. The smell of smoke was thick in the air as I sniffed around. I looked to my left and noticed Pixel was gone. Frantically, I looked around my small room and found her to be nowhere. "Pixel?!" I called...
No response. I threw the blankets off from me and pulled my shorts up as I made my way to the balcony in a quick walk and immediately wished that I hadn't. Buildings were on fire, people scrambled through the streets far below, guns were being fired, but I had no idea what the threat was. I looked around, searching for anything to give away the situation, but saw nothing, nothing that helped me make sense of things anyway.
I looked further down the balcony to see that the building was on fire and spreading quickly. I backed up, horror painted across my face and fear in my heart as something cold and hard poked me in the back of my head. I turned slowly to the barrel of a gun pointed directly in between my eyes, but what surprised me most was who held the gun.
"Pixel?" I said in disbelieve. "What are you doing? It's me."
A coy smile crept across her muzzle, eyes cold and bloodthirsty...
Eyes... they were purple...
"Pixel's not here anymore." She said with a voice that was not her own. She took a step closer so the gun was pressed against my forehead. I slowly raised my hands, trying not to look like too much of a threat.
"Who are you?" I asked, though I already knew the answer. Those eyes, that voice, there was no denying that she was Ra.
Immediately my heart was struck painfully as realization came through clearly. Pixel, my Pixel was one of them. I wanted to break down in tears, scream, weep, tear my heart out, but couldn't, weakness was not something I should show right now. The Ra wouldn't hesitate in killing me if they sensed even a hint of fear.
"What do you want? Where's my mate?" I snarled coldly, mostly through anger and trying to keep the sorrow out of my throat.
She chuckled deviously. "She's sleeping," She said, holding a finger up to her lips and hushing me. "Don't wake her."
Rage, sorrow, fear, guilt, and so many other emotions swam through my head, clouding my judgment and thoughts to the point where I didn't know what to do anymore... Or maybe it was because I didn't want to do anything...
She was gone... what was the point in going on without her?
The day was long and uneventful. Saxon and Kat had walked continuously, mostly in silence, except for Kat asking a question that might occur to her every once-in-a-while, and Saxon would do his best to answer. They had made it well out of the city by the time the sun had gone down and the moon replaced its light.
Kat had started a small fire in hopes to keep them somewhat warm during the night, but the bitter breeze was unforgiving and merciless, sending shivers down even Saxon's spine despite his thick coat of fur and the jacket he wore. Kat seemed to be much colder than Saxon though. He noticed her shivering violently as she huddled herself into a tight ball, trying to keep some warmth to herself.
Saxon looked down at himself, ashamed for having fur and for being much less colder then what Kat appeared. Sympathy, something he was taught not to have when he joined the army, but he couldn't help but feel sorry for her; she's lost everything, her home, family, friends, everything, but has yet to shed a single tear. Saxon has seen how many of the humans have reacted when they learned that a love one has died, but this one... this one was tough... admirable, strong, and independent. It was as if she couldn't cry, despite how much she wanted too.
Taking his jacket off and standing up, Saxon made his way across the space between them and stopped when he came to Kat. She didn't seem to realize he was standing there, so he knelt down and covered her with his jacket, getting a surprised look from her when she felt the fabric. Saxon then did something that surprised even himself; he lay down close to her and took her into a tight embrace, trying to share his body heat in exchange for some of hers.
Kat, clearly not expecting this, held still; she wasn't shivering anymore, and she didn't seem to be objecting him, so he must have done something right. The night seemed to become that much warmer and sleep came a lot easier, knowing that they were there for each other, despite the difference in race. It was nice, Saxon thought. It was nice to have someone to hold through the night again...
