#4 of Jason's Nightmare

As the title says, this is part 3 of Jason's Nightmare, a side story to BridgeToPeace's Pokemon High School. This is the chapter where the nightmare begins. Also, I'd like to apologize in advance for that cliffhanger I placed at the end (of course it's at the end, where else would the cliffhanger be?)

"Jason..." a soothing, female voice called out in the darkness. "Jason, honey, wake up."

Jason's eyelids slowly opened, the bright light blinding his eyes. He reached out to shade his eyes with his hands but what he saw was different. Jason saw that his hands were now that of a little pup's, tiny, soft and adorable. His eyes turned to the left to see that the female calling him... was his mother.

"Aw, you're so adorable." Jason's mother squealed as she reached down to carry Jason. "Oh, you have your father's eyes." She commented as she touched Jason's nose with hers. The female lucario was full of kindness and compassion, the soothing morning light seemingly adding to her beauty. She cradled baby Jason in her arms, gently rocking him, hugging him and holding him close.

"Is this... a dream?" Jason asked to himself, his voice echoing in his mind. "Yes... this is a dream." His tone was that of sadness.

Due to Jason's immense skill with the aura, he is always aware of his surroundings, even in dreams. The luxary of enjoying the dream is no longer the same once you are aware that you are dreaming. You realize that this world only exists within the mind and that you'd have to wake and return to reality, therefore you know that the dream won't last.

It seems in this dream, Jason is back in his home at Avalon and he's an infant again. He felt... happy... being so close to his mother once more, being able to hug her, rub noses with one another, all the perks of being a baby.

"My, you're such an affectionate child aren't you?" Jason's mom asked.

Jason let out a giggle of delight. He didn't mean to giggle, it wasn't his intention, but it just sort of happened. During Jason's adolescence, he wasn't very close to his parents. At best, they'd have a laugh at the table during dinner, but Jason longed for another opportunity to love his parents the way he did as a child.

"Come on," Jason's mother said as they headed out the room. "let's go have some breakfast. A baby like you needs a lot of nutrients to grow big and strong, just like your father."

Just then, the world around Jason began to ripple, cracks began to form on the walls and the floors as the dream began falling apart. "What the-- what's going on?" Jason exclaimed as he was pulled away from his mother. He viewed the world in third person view now, he saw his mother walk away with baby Jason in her arms. He tried to run after her but something seems to keep pulling him back. "No! Mother, don't leave me!"

"Jason!" an angry male called out as Jason's face was painfully slapped, electricity traveling through every vein of Jason's body.

Jason was jolted back into reality, panting and sweating, Jason was awake. "What the?"

"If you're going to scream while you sleep, then you should sleep with a gag!" Raiki scolded, the luxray rubbing his eyes in drowsiness. "At this rate, you'd wake everyone up."

"What time is it?" Jason asked, regaining his composure.

"I don't know, a little past 2 I guess." Raiki answered. "Don't forget to put a gag on before you go to bed."

Jason looked around and tested his aura once more. He felt the presence of all the students, the teachers and other life in the area. Jason sighed in relief. A few hours ago, before returning to the cabin, he had failed to notice that the other students had gone before him. Only through the warning of his professor did he realize that they were alone. That sent an intense wave of shock through Jason's ego, he feared the thought that he would be traveling blind. With that, he used his immense aura as a radar. The thought that his aura was failing him agitated Jason, even to that point that he felt sick and dizzy.

"Forgive me for waking you." Jason apologized. "I promise it won't happen again."

"It better not." Raiki answered as he placed the sheets over him and fell asleep.

Jason lye on his bed as he pondered on his aura and the dream. His dream, he could understand. It was very possible for that to happen in a dream but his aura... this was the first time that Jason's aura had failed to work. "What's happening?" Jason whispered to himself.

Just then, a sharp pain pierced his brain leaving Jason closing his eyes and gritting his teeth, unable to contain himself. The pain was immense, but he tried his best not to scream let alone make a sound or he might infuriate Raiki once more.

"Can you hear me, Jason?" A raspy voice echoed within Jason's mind. "Why do you fight it? Why not succumb?"

"Leave me..." Jason whispered in reply, cradling his head in his arms in an attempt to soothe the pain. "We're not in Avalon anymore... to turn me now is... useless to you."

The voice chuckled, each echo bouncing around Jason's head making the headache unbearable. "I'll let you believe that, for now." It said. "Now then, why don't you go back to sleep?"

At that, Jason no longer felt his body. He fought to stay conscious but it was a futile attempt as his consciousness faded in mere seconds.

"Dad, I'm scared." Young Jason said, clenching his dad's hand and standing close to his leg. Jason's dad was a blaziken; tall, muscular and confident.

"What's wrong, Jason?" he asked, smiling compassionately and with a voice that was calm. "School's not that bad once you get the hang of it. Especially since you're just in preschool"

"But..." Jason nervously moaned, hugging his dad's leg in anxiety. "The children might be mean to me..."

Jason's dad let out a laugh and patted Jason at the back, pushing young Jason forward. "Don't worry my boy, everything will be fine." He called out. "Just be yourself."

Jason nervously entered the campus, slow and steady paces... nervous paces. Jason flinched each and every time someone would pass by but he somehow managed to make it to his classroom without running away.

"Look, a new kid!" a zigzagoon yelled pointing at Jason's direction. The zigzagoon's actions startled Jason as he started backing away in fear. "Wait, Riolu, where are you going?" zigzagoon called out as he raced after Jason. "Don't worry, I won't bite."

Jason slowly eased down, letting his shoulder drop and walk slowly towards the zigzagoon. "That's it, so far so good." The zigzagoon said, slowly reaching forward to hold Jason's hand. "That wasn't so bad now was it?"

Jason was still trembling a little as he stared at the zigzagoon who held his hand.

"You don't talk much do you?" the zigzagoon asked. "Well... my name is Damion, what's yours?"

Jason was hesitant, but he thought now would be a better time than any to make a friend. The zigzagoon DOES seem kind. "J... Jason." He said under a trembling breath. "My name's Jason."

"Well, Jason," the zigzagoon said as he let go of Jason's hand. "it's nice to meet you. I'm sure we'll be great friends."

Damion's smile was that of kindness and joy, 'twas enough to brighten Jason's day. In fact, Jason couldn't help but smile back as if a heavy feeling had been lifted off of his chest. "Thank you."

"Wait, why are you crying?" Damion asked. "Here, let me get that." he said as he wiped a tear off of Jason's eye.

"Nothing..." Jason said as he wiped the rest away, his face glowing red in embarrassment. "it's just... yes, let's be good friends!"

And at that, the dream slowly dissolved into black, leaving the present Jason standing in the void. "Yes, I remember that day." He spoke to himself. "Probably the first time ever that I felt THAT happy." He felt tears welling up inside and soon, he was now crying.

The scenery began to ripple and change. Jason could feel his happiness affecting the world around him, changing it into something much more... splendid. He saw that the world had transformed into a beautiful valley. With trees, flowers, lakes and streams and hills decorating the landscape.

Jason stared at the area, wide-eyed in surprise. This place... it's the place that changed Jason's life forever, the one place where he was truly happy. "This is..."

Jason found himself standing in his 'heaven on earth', the one place he felt happiest. He felt his legs crumbling beneath him with the intense nostalgia, tears began flowing out as a smile crept across his face. "This... this is..." "Jason, wake the...

"Jason," a woman's voice called out from outside of the cabin. "c'mon, you love nature!" "Coming!" Jason responded, the lucario getting up from bed in a rush. Jason opened the door to find Guren, a gardevior, waiting for him. "Why are you indoors?"...
