Star Fox Chronicles: Chapter 9: Prisoner
#10 of Star Fox Chronicles
I awakened with a sharp pain piercing through the right side of my face. As I opened my eyes I felt a liquid going down my face, and it didn't take a genius to tell that it was blood. Some of it felt crusted on the side so I guess I've been bleeding for a while now. I awakened to see a dark green tent. It was lit in the darkness of light by a few light sources. I looked around and realized I was upright. I tried to move but was instantly pulled back. I looked up to see my hands tied over my head and outwards. I was pulled high enough from the ground to keep my feet off the ground to as I found them pulled apart from each other and tied also. I was instantly in trouble, I still had my uniform on, but all of my gear was stripped away. My sword, blaster, communicator, and reflector was gone and nowhere to be found. I kept looking around to see a few guards looking at me all of them armed. I struggled with the ropes hopelessly trying to free myself when I heard a voice.
"Good to see that you're awake," I turned my head forward. I was facing the entrance of the tent and I saw that cougar from before walk inside. We was wearing a full black suit. Well I guess it was more of a cloak, however it gave the sense of superiority over the other soldiers who stood at attention as he walked in. He looked at me and smiled.
"Who are you?" I asked frowning. I knew I had to be careful as the wrong thing said could easily kill me. I had to delay them somehow until Fox, Falco, and Krystal showed up.
"Now now my good friend," He began, "you're getting a little ahead of yourself now. Everything will be explained in good time."
"That doesn't answer my question," I said impatiently. He continued to look at me and glanced around the tent with his hands behind his back.
"Well I first have to welcome you to my base of operations," He began and offered a hand. I obviously knew he was taunting me as I was tied up at the moment. He chuckled. "My army and I are delighted to have a member of the great Star Fox team being in our presence. I guess you guys care after all."
"You mean the soldiers," I said, "where are they? And you still haven't told who the fuck you are. And what is it you want?"
"That all depends on what you have to offer," He said sternly and snapped his fingers and two more figures walked inside. One was the bull who assaulted me earlier, the other was a large dragon. His dark green scales matched his evil grin.
"I guess now is a good time to introduce ourselves," He said, "My name is Cougar. The dragon here is Draxor Flametongue, and the bull is Arxgon Axle. The three of us are a part of the elite faction known as the Claxan. We're effectively the commanders of this army known as the Dawx rebellion."
"Anything else?" I said. I was quite surprised that he just told me this info. I guess he figured that I'm not going anywhere anytime soon. He looked at me and smiled then nodded at Draxor. He nodded back and stood forward.
"We have a few demands to make with the Cornerian Government," he began, "we believe that they have some vital information concerning the planets security. A perfect way of getting inside and taking it for our own goals. What we don't know is this. And what we don't know we find out." Then Arxgon stepped forward and also gave an evil grin.
"And what we need to find out now is what you know," Arxgon spoke plainly.
"What the hell are you all talking about? I don't know anything, I'm just a high school kid from Earth." This was true but they seemed not to believe me and Cougar spoke.
"We'll see about that," and he snapped his fingers again, "one thing we do know is that Star Fox is trusted with all the biggest information. I mean why else didn't I just kill you right then." This whole time I had no idea what they were talking about. Everything they said only confused me more and I could tell they're leaving a ridiculous amount of info about them in the dark. I notice another figure walk in and Draxor and Arxgon walked out. The figure was a female pit bull. Her fur was a dark brown and had short red hair going down to her shoulders. One thing was the Claxan all had on the exact same uniform so I could tell who was a soldier or a Claxan member. She held a black whip which I noticed immediately. There was a pointy metal tip at the end of it and I knew then what they were going to do to me.
"You called for me Cougar?" she asked in an almost innocent little voice and smiled.
"Ah, Roxanne," Cougar said and smiled his evil grin. That sinister grin looked similar to Panther's though I don't know why. "Be sure to give our new guest here the usual." He left the tent then followed by a few guards, two of them staying to guard the entrance of the tent. Roxanne turned to look at me and smiled again.
"Nice to meet you kid," Roxanne said, "what's your name?" I remained silent at the question. She stared for a second and then spoke again.
"It's not polite to ignore a question," she said but I still kept my mouth shut. Anything I said they could use against me later.
"I guess we're doing this the hard way," she said sternly and flipped out the whip. A quick second later she cracked it and I felt the tip graze my stomach and I lurched in pain. My body remained nearly stationary because of the bindings. I felt my shirt soak and I knew I was already bleeding. She pulled it back and spoke again.
"Now, what can you tell me about Corneria's defenses?" she asked.
"I don't know what you're tal..." I never finished what she said because she cracked the whip on me again. This time it hit me square on the chin and I gritted my teeth through the pain.
"Now we both know that's a bunch of bull shit," she said sternly her smile faded and instantly became angry. She was pulling the classic good cop/ bad cop routine and it seems to work for her. Throughout what seemed forever she continued to ask me questions about Corneria. None of them which I knew the answer to, and even if I did I wouldn't tell the likes of them. When she finally stopped my front was soaked in red. The wounds burning from exposure to the air. Insects also started coming in attracted to the scent of blood. This made it worse and I felt myself get weaker. She unleashed another shot and spoke again.
"Let's try this again," she said, "does Corneria have a secret weapon?"
"I-I'm telling you," I spoke in between heavy breaths, "I don't know what you're talking about."
"Sure you don't," she laughed an evil laugh as she whipped me again. This time she didn't stop and kept going. The pain got extreme and I couldn't hold back cries of pain. When she finally did stop I slipped into unconsciousness.
Cougar came back inside the tent to see the human stop moving and Roxanne spoke.
"He seems to have fallen unconscious," she said and smiled again, "and it was just getting fun."
"Remember that we need him alive," Cougar spoke a little mockingly, "the boss has something he has to do with that human however he's still keeping us in the dark about it."
"Hmph!" Roxanne pouted and walked out of the tent. Cougar looked back at the unconscious human and spoke.
"Quite a shame," he said, "if he could survive such brutal torture he would've made a good candidate for the Claxan. Maybe that's what the boss needs him for. That monkey seems to have a lot of secrets." He snapped his fingers and the two guards standing at the entrance cut the human down and dragged him out of the tent. Cougar who was now alone in his tent spoke to himself.
"And in order to claim this army for myself I need to find out these said secrets." He laughed loudly into the air and walked out of the tent.
I woke up again and tried to focus my eyes. As they came into focus I saw a metal ceiling. The floor felt cold and metal also. I got up a little still lying on my back to see where I was. I was in a large cage. I could easily tell I was in another large tent as daylight pierced the dark fabric. I tried to get up and slowly managed to. My stomach and chest still hurt too damn much from the brutal torture but I could tell the blood stopped leaking out now.
"Are you okay?" I heard someone speak. I looked up and saw that three other people were in there as well. The one who spoke was a White Tiger who was about an inch shorter than I was. He had a build between that of a slim and a swimmer build. His blue eyes complimented his fur as he looked at me. His look was one of concern. The second one standing at the other end of the cage was what I could tell to be a phoenix, his feathers were brilliantly red and orange to fit well with his well toned build, one that could rival Falco. The last one stood not far behind the white tiger. He was a dark wolf, his fur a deep black with a white tip on his tail, his green eyes seemed to radiate from his dark face. He and the phoenix were an inch taller than me and sported similar builds. All three of them seemed to wear similar clothes, I couldn't tell any real difference as I could see they were torn and badly bloodstained. The tiger spoke again.
"Are you okay sir?" he asked. I nodded and spoke.
"I'm fine. Who are you guys? I'm guessing that you guys are the captive soldiers." They looked a little and nodded slightly.
"Actually," the wolf said, "we're some mercenaries who were sent on the rescue mission. Obviously it didn't turn out quite well."
"You're a Star Fox member aren't you?" I heard the phoenix speak as he walked up to us, "I can tell from your uniform. If not even a Star Fox member can succeed then we really underestimated these guys."
"Well I'm new to the job," I replied, "my name's Ryan Lewis." I offered up a hand and everyone shook it. The tiger hesitated a little but spoke.
"I'm Trevor Rossborough."
"The name's Lucian Blaze," The phoenix said, "I'm a longtime friend of Fox McCloud. He rescued me on a mission that went bad in Fichina."
"Loki," the wolf said as he shook my hand, "I prefer to be called 8 if that's not too much trouble."
"Of course not 8," I said to him and he nodded, "so how long have you been kept in this hell hole?"
"About a week if I recall correctly," 8 replied, "they confiscated all of our weapons, ships, and gear so we can't get anywhere."
"Yeah me to," I said, "so let's start thinking of ways to get them back and get out of here."
"How?" Trevor asked.
"This camp is very heavily guarded," Lucian said, "wherever they're keeping our stuff it's heavily guarded."
"Well first we need to get out of the cage," I said and everyone listened in intently, "then we can figure out how to get our weapons and gear back."
"How?" Trevor asked again. I thought for a moment and looked around the cage. I saw a small terminal with a number key pad right up to the cage. I tried to reach for it but was hit with a jolt of electricity and pulled back.
"This barrier on the cage will fry anyone who touches it," Lucian said, "only the guards can get to that keypad." I grinned a little as I sparked an idea. I motioned everyone towards me and we huddled. I then spoke the plan to them.
After I finished speaking they nodded and we put our hands together like a sports team does at the big game. We broke it and the other three went to the edge of the cage. I walked to the spot nearest to the tent's entrance and I shouted to the guards.
"HEY GUARDS! WHY DON'T YOU COME IN HERE AND I'LL MAKE YOU MY PRETTY LITTLE GIRLFRIENDS!" This caught their attention and they ran to the terminal. I watched them put in the combo and walked inside. I knew what was coming as they proceeded to beat me senseless with the butts of their rifles. The rest of the group snuck up closer to them like they planned. When the guards finished they walked out and sealed the lock again, then they left the tent. I got up unfazed from the beating I just received and walked up to the other three. They held up three small bendable metal rods and Lucian spoke.
"How did you know they had these on their wrists?"
"Slippy taught me about these. They are metal but are insulators to electricity. Hand me the rods." They did so and I connected the three rods together and bent them to look like a crane. I poked it through the energy field and as I thought it worked. I worked it to the terminal and slowly typed the four button combo.
"1337," I said and it beeped in confirmation. The field deactivated and the door opened. We snuck out and Loki peaked out the tent a little and signaled a direction. We bolted out of tent and made a beeline for the nearby bushes. No one seemed to notice so I spoke again.
"Okay, we only have a small amount of time to find our weapons and get out. Your ships should be out here somewhere near here so we'll look for those next." Everyone nodded and we took a look around. I saw a group of soldiers carrying some stuff. I squinted my eyes for a better look and recognized it as my stuff. I saw them walk it into a tent not far from us and walked out again. It seemed to be lunch time for everyone so this was the perfect opportunity.
'Bingo,' I thought to myself again and silently motioned the others to follow me. We moved quickly but carefully not to step on any twigs or make noise. After a few minutes we got to the tent and got to the entrance. We headed inside and froze in our tracks. Cougar, Draxor, Arxgon, and Roxanne were all there and laughed.
"Looking for these?" Cougar taunted and held his hand up. Four blue balls of lightning shot out of them and hit the four of us. Yelling we were cast out about fifteen feet and hit the ground hard.
"Did you really think we would leave you unsupervised?" Arxgon snarled.
"You're even dumber than I thought," Draxor said bluntly.
"Let's discipline the naughty boys," Roxanne said and gave a high pitched chuckle. We pulled each other up and saw them pull out weapons. Arxgon had his axe and Roxanne had her whip. Draxor pulled out a huge broadsword. I noticed the handle was bent and he held the tip directly at us. I noticed a hole was near the tip. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. I was staring down the barrel of a large gunblade. He seemed to have fused the blaster rifle these guys have with his sword. He flared out flames out of his nostrils. Cougar didn't pull out a weapon but I noticed his hands crackling with blue electricity. I saw Trevor hold his hands up and some claws extended from his paws. He meant to fight and I saw Lucian and 8 put up their dukes. Reluctantly, I did the same. We were at a completely unfair advantage but we would fight anyway. The four charged forward at us and we instantly seperated. Lucian was stuck with Arxgon and Trevor had to take on Draxor. Lucian was left with Roxanne and I felt Cougar grab me and throw me another 30 away. I looked up to see him pull back a fist and charged up the energy around it. I rolled backward onto my feet avoiding the blast and charged at him. I threw a few quick punches at him as I ran. He deflected it and jumped spinning behind me and landed a kick to my back midair. He caused a shockwave onto the ground and sent me soaring through the air again. He jumped into the air and landed a spin kick right on my face. I felt myself fall through the air and crash into some objects. I staggered to get up and found that he hit me into the weapons room. I saw my two blasters and picked them up. I quickly got my reflector, communicator, and sword equipping them into their right spots. When I finished I jumped forward and rolled to avoid another lightning ball. He held his hands into the air and a large energy ball formed. He chucked it at me and I closed my eyes.
'I hope this works,' I thought to myself and flicked the reflector switch. I held my hands up in front of me and I felt a powerful push. I opened to see the ball stopped in it's tracks. I smiled and pushed forward, the energy ball suddenly flew the other way right back to Cougar. He looked in surprise and held his hand forward. The ball disappeared and my shield faded. I turned to see my three comrades on their knees. I ran towards them and pulled out my blasters and began firing at the three Claxans. They jumped backwards and pulled out their weapons again. I aimed at them as the stream of red blasts separated them from my team. I got up to them and shouted.
"Get your weapons I'll hold them off." Lucian and 8 nodded and made a beeline for the tent. Trevor staggered up and extended his claws again. Cougar showed up and suddenly we were completely surrounded and outnumbered 4 to 2. I put away my blasters and pulled out my sword from behind me. We all seemed to stay in that position waiting for one of them to pull the first move. Arxgon and Roxanne did the honors and charged. I jumped to dodge a low blow from Arxgon and Trevor was hit directly in the chin from Roxanne's whip. She jumped back a bit and flung at me. I backflipped away from it and dodged the axe. He spun it around and connected Trevor right to his right arm protecting his head. He was down and out leaving me 1 against four. I charged by front flipping over the axe and slid on the ground tripping Roxanne and jumped up. I blocked a blow from Draxor's sword and saw him pull the trigger. The green shot hit me square in the forehead and I staggered. My equilibrium disturbed I was quickly knocked down by blows from all four. Before I could get up the charged. I saw two pair of feet stand in front of us. Trevor and I helped each other up and we saw that it was Lucian and 8 each holding their weapons now. Lucian had two blasters in his belt holsters and in each hand held a Chinese broadsword. 8 had a large sniper rifle tied to his back. And in his right hand he held up a small curved blade, a scimitar. Now armed we charged again and tried to do something. Like the last battle though we ended up face first on the ground. I couldn't see straight anymore from the beating and saw blurry forms of the enemy approaching.
"You ready to give up yet boy?" I heard Cougar say, "prepare to..." I didn't hear him say that as I saw a couple figures stand in front of me. My body couldn't take it anymore and I collapsed. Everything went black before I could hear anything else.
I awakened in immense pain. I shot up despite that fact to see I was in a bed. I looked around the room but it wasn't familiar. Something about it seems familiar. I got up and slowly walked towards the door. My equipment was strewn on a nearby table in a mess. I ignored it though since I was eager to see where the hell I was. I stepped outside and what I saw caught me off guard. I had to rub my eyes and slap myself to see if it was real.
"Mission Failed," Wolf stated, "this is going on your permanent record."
