I was in a meadow, I don't know how or why, but I was in a meadow. I looked around and saw that it was your normal every day meadow, but before I could take it all in, a scent hit my powerful nose, a smell that made me hungry. As instincts took over I began following the scent. When I got close I lowered myself ready to lunge at the first sight of prey, I crept closer until I saw what I was stalking. A rabbit sat in the middle of a small space surrounded by bushes. I was crouching in this dense brush watching my future dinner, I was ready to attack, to eat, to devour when something happened. *Hey kid... Wake up!* said a voice. It sounded familiar, but there was no time to waste time thinking about it. I had to hunt, I had to eat. Suddenly something hard hit my forehead.
My eyes opened suddenly, so suddenly that I was momentarily blinded by the bright light. When my eyes finally adjusted I saw what had hit me. *About time you got up! I was about to hit you again* said Kiki, she was standing beside the futon I had slept on, in my cage! *How did you get in here* I almost yelled at her. *Well... I kinda live here.* *I meant in my cage!* I said in the same panicky tone. *You know there's a door right?* she answered calmly. At this I looked at the wall that separated our cages and replied *But there's no....* *You know, your not very observant. Come on, I'll show you what I mean.* she stood up and started walking towards my mirror and her cage. As she passed the mirror, she turned towards the back wall and.... went through it? I quickly got up using my paws, and walked towards the place where Kiki had disappeared. When I got there I saw that there was a large doggy door that I didn't notice before, perhaps Kiki was right, I wasn't very observant. Anyways I went through said door and found myself in a small courtyard, it was surrounded by a large wall, but it was open to the sky. In the back corner was a small fountain. As I looked around, many new smells came to my nose. Some I recognized like popcorn, pine trees, and candy, others I didn't even knew had existed. Each smell whether new or old was as intense as if I were standing next to it. I could also hear things things that I couldn't possibly imagine, Kiki's rhythmic breathing, the sound of someone humming, even my own heart. I closed my eyes, and began taking it all in, that is until my nose was filled with a familiar scent that cleansed it of all others, despite this minor interruption I kept my eyes sealed. Then it happened, I felt a streak of pain cross my muzzle, I opened my eyes and the pain disappeared, replaced by the tingling sensation as my cuts healed. The first thing I saw was Kiki licking her slightly bloody claws, I glared at her as she looked up. *What was that for?!* I asked her furiously *I was waiting for you to follow me but you didn't.* She said calmly. *you didn't have to scratch me!* I snarled *How else do you expect me to get your attention.* *I don't know, just don't hurt me!* *Well anyhoo, what do ya think?* *about what?* *You idiot, the courtyard.* *Oh um I think its...um very nice.* I said. *The fountain is a--* I was cut off by the rumbling of my stomach and realized just how hungry I was. *I'm sorry, I completely forgot that you haven't eaten yet!* she said as she directed me back into my cage. She then left and a few minutes she was on the other side of the barred wall. As I waited for food to come I paced from wall to wall, hunger had consumed me... ironic isn't it. On my third lap of pacing, the door opened, instantly catching my full and utter attention, then I heard him, anger arose within me as I listened to his voice and I found myself growling. "I found him just yesterday, he's the same breed as Kiki." The door opened to reveal Bob. He wore the same smile on his wrinkled face, his green eyes shone with content, on his head was the same blue hat and covering his large belly was the same red jacket. As soon as I saw him another voice spoke up. "Really!" The owner of the voice entered the room after Bob. He was a boy who looked to be around 18. He had Bob's green eyes but his hair was a flaming red. By then I had realized that this was Bob's son. The son looked at me, well stared is a better term. he approached my cage and had a look of awe on his face. "Where did you get him?" the son asked, his curiosity showed. "Well I found him on the street" replied Bob. As if on cue, the volume of my growl doubled as he spoke. The son must have noticed for he said in a soft, almost calming voice. "It's okay, I'm not going to hurt you." My growling ceased momentarily, and in that moment the son had pushed his hand through the bars and was reaching for me. I backed up away from the hand, with ears down and tail between my legs. "You should be careful Joey, that dog is dangerous!" Bob said to his son. I decided, as he said this, that I would let Joey pet me just to prove Bob wrong. I approached shyly until I was right in front of Joey, he placed his hand upon my head and began stroking my ears. It felt amazing, and his hand smelled nice as well, an added bonus. I felt my tail wag happily as he continued to stroke my ears. He began pulling away, but I wanted more attention so I pushed my nose into his fingers. "Not right now." he said to me, as I heard this I began to whine... great! Joey stood up and headed towards the freezer, when he was there he picked up a brown bag from beside it. He quickly poured its contents into two metal bowls, which he put into each cage. As I approached the bowl a stale bland smell hit my nose. I shuffled back, away from the unappealing scent. "what's wrong. you don't like it?" Joey said a slight smile lingering on the edge of his face. "Well that's not good, is it?" he stood up and before I knew it he had pulled something that smelled delicious from the freezer. As he pushed it through the bars I saw that it was a large chunk of steak, sure it was bloody and raw but I didn't care, I quickly devoured it. I licked the blood from my muzzle and found that it tasted good. I was starting to like this kid. *Thank you* I said. Joey looked around for my voice and said "huh?" "Whats wrong" said Bob as he glared suspiciously at me. "I thought I heard a voice right now" he said looking confused "Y-your just hearing things; Maybe you should get some fresh air" "Yeah your probably right." said Joey as he left the room. The next thing I knew Bob was towering over me, despite the fact that he was fairly short. On his face was a look of rage. "I know you understand me dog, so listen well and remember this! Do not talk to anyone but me and Kiki or else I'll kill you! you got that!" he yelled. his face was turning beet red. "Answer me!" He nearly screamed at me. *Yes sir.* I said in the most pathetic, scared tone I could muster, which was hard because I was nearly bursting with internal laughter as I looked at his swollen balloon like face. He quickly left and I let Kiki hear my near uncontrollable laughter *What's so funny?* she asked. *Di-did you see his face.* as I said this a new wave of laughter cascaded into my thoughts. *You shouldn't be laughing!* she said seriously. *But it was so hilarious.* *Hello, he said he would kill you if you talked to anyone else.* *So* I managed to squeeze through my amusement. *God, are girls the only ones who take things seriously?* >)}+{(< After I had calmed down I actually started to worry about what would happen to me. Would I ever get to go home, would I ever be human again, would I ever see my sister again. I was lying on my futon thinking about these things and as I did sadness filled my being. *Hey kid! Why are you so sad?* asked Kiki *My name's Alex and I'm not sad, I'm worried." *Well you felt sad.* *What?* I asked *Um... nothing* she said suddenly. *What are you... worried about?* I had the feeling that she was hiding something from me. *I'm worried that I'll never see my sister again.* I confessed *Your lucky?* Kiki said *Why?* *You have someone to worry about you" *What do you mean?* I asked, my curiosity getting the better of me *Well when I was six, a werewolf attacked and killed my family before biting me, so I don't have anyone.* *Um... if you want, I'll worry about you, so... your not alone.* *Your sweet, you know that.... and thank you.* *Well I do try.* I admitted. The door opened and Joey came in. "Dad I'm taking the dogs for a walk" he shouted out the door. An unseen Bob answered "Okay but keep that new one on a lease, he's a runner" I growled slightly at the fact that I had been referred to as "That new one". Joey grabbed the leashes and a collar from the wall before opening my cage's door. As soon as it was open I bounded out as quickly as I could, right into Joey. "No boy, not right now!"...Great, Joey thought that my attempted escape was a desperate need for attention...Why was he so clueless? I collapsed out of desperation and let him put the blue collar on me. It probably stood out against my mocha fur like Kiki's red one stood out against her white fur. "Oh yeah, I forgot, you need a name". Great, just what I always wanted: a pet name. When will this torture end. "Hmm" said Joey absentmindedly "Oh! I got it: Sparky!". Why me? Why me? Joey put the leash on and I stood up on my paws. After Kiki was ready Joey opened the door and led us out. Bob was standing in the doorway across the hall as if waiting. "Joey, would you mind taking out the trash " "um sure, also I've decided to name him Sparky" Said Joey as he grabbed the bag in Bob's hand. I was expecting us to go left towards the center ring area and was caught off guard when we headed right instead. Once outside we walked down the parking lot before dodging left onto a dirt path that bent and headed towards a patch of trees. I could faintly hear the sound of running water. *Where are we going?* I asked Kiki. *You'll see!...Can you...swim?* I soon realized what she meant; we walked into a large clearing. This clearing was more or less round and completely surrounded by the tall pines I had seen earlier. On the far side was a small stream that drained into a large deep looking pond. Joey dropped the bag of garbage on the ground before saying to us werewolves "Don't tell dad okay...not that you guys can" He said the last part to himself. It was obvious that Joey didn't know what we really were. He undid Kiki's leash and collar and she went running into the pond, he than tied my leash to a nearby tree. I watched as Joey stripped down to a black pair of swimming trunks before joining a now sopping wet Kiki. As I watched them play in the water I grew envious. I didn't want to be restrained like this. I took out my frustration by attempting to chew through my leash...With little success. Joey must of noticed what I was doing as he walked towards me. Oh great... here comes captain oblivious, I thought to myself. Joey sat down beside me, patted my head and said "Okay, okay I'll let you off the leash" it was like he read my mind. "But don't run away got it" His voice wasn't angry, it was calm and soothing. The kind of voice people use to talk to their pets, but I guess that's what I looked like to him. I had thought of running but had realized that I didn't know the one main thing: How to get home. Great... why did I have to fall asleep on the bus here. I had no idea of where I was... Great! After a few hours of swimming we left and were led through the back door again. I growled slightly as my nose picked up Bob's scent. Once again I was in my cell waiting for freedom to find me. After what seemed like an eternity, the door opened and Bob walked in. He grabbed the keys and unlocked the door of Kiki's cage before he kneeled down before me. "Listen dog, now your going to go out there and your going to do exactly what me or my son tell you to... or else!" with that he unlocked the door, seized my collar roughly and dragged my into the hallway. At the far end someone had draped a large curtain that completely separated us from the main room. Joey was waiting for us by said curtain. Bob stepped through the boundary and after a little bit his voice was heard, magnified. " And here they are folks: Kiki and our newest dog, Sparky!" As we walked into the ring I sensed a familiar presence: My sister, Samantha was here!
