A list or promises. That is how this poem came to be. Last night, feeling alone and down - worse than I had felt in a long, long time, I lay in bed and typed out line after line of 'promises.' These were things that I wanted and that I wanted to give to another. Rather than merely post a list, which has very little substance to it, I chose to put it together as a piece of loose-formed poetic content. I am not a poet by any means, but nonetheless, I hope you enjoy it.

Hold my paw and walk with me,

down the street and by the sea.

Look into my eyes and set my heart aflame,

And I promise that I'll do the same.

Take my breath away and sweep me off my feet,

be elegant, kind, and sweet.

Hold me close and whisper my name,

And I promise that I'll do the same.

Make me laugh and make me smile,

so that my cheeks do hurt after a while.

And do play a fair and honest game,

And I promise that I'll do the same.

Be patient and there when I need you most,

and when I need it, please hold me close.

Know when to be wild and when to be tame,

And I promise that I'll do the same.

There will be times that I will be most frustrated,

but remind me there is a reason of why we mated.

For there will be a time and place in which this to proclaim,

And I promise that I'll do the same.

But above all else,

Be true to yourself.

And I promise that I'll do the same.

The Vanquisher

Holding the brass spyglass to his eye, Sig scanned the horizon. It was unusual for him to be up in the crow's nest, a duty he usually left to others, but he had awoken early and in a cold sweat - not a good sign if history were to be considered....

Initials, Pt. 2

Cooper sat behind the oak desk, a large stack of manila folders off to his right, an even larger pile to his left. He leaned back, removing his glasses before rubbing his eyes. What a day, he thought. Letting his eyelids fall, he rested for a moment,...
