#2 of Life's Pains

A new chapter, i am changing the title up, because "lifes pains" was mundane and i just didnt like it. possible some adult parts in the next chapter!

Alright, i finally decided to finish another chapter, and now that i have more written down, i think i am getting the hang of writing again.

I have decided to do a sort of spin-off of BuckSaber's writing tecnique, and have a song inspire individual chapters, this part was brought on after i listenen to Black Eyes by Radical Face.

Keep your eyes peeled for more chapters!

A few moments after Sam crashed into the ditch, after his airbag had gone off and broken his nose, after he had blacked out for a second or two, a voice filtered into his consciousness, coming from outside.

All around Sam was a white world. It took him a few seconds to realize that his car was deep in a massive snow bank.

Everything came back to him at once, the conversation with his parents, the anger and frustration...

"What the hell were you thinking?!" a male voice came from his left side, through the layer of snow.

Sam just sat there in the driver's seat of his car, feeling a numbness all over his body.

The seat belt rested against his left shoulder, small pieces of glass covered the front of him, blood streamed down the side of his face...

Blood.

He felt the warm liquid staining the fur on the right side of his face, making its way down his neck, soaking into his jacket and shirt.

Sam blacked out just as the pain was felt across his body, his chest, the side of his head....

***

"We have a 17 year old male, otter, with probable concussion to the right frontal bone, looks like the zygomatic structure is also damaged, as soon as he is stable we need him in for an x-ray and an MRI. Multiple ribs broken on the right side, pecopalis minor, numbers three, four, and five severely damaged, possible fracturing of the mandible on the right side below back molars..."

The EMT technician that had brought Sam into the emergency room was pushing the cart along as a nurse took his blood pressure, and shined a light in each eye, but Sam barely registered it, the only reason he had woken up for a short time was because of the movement from being transferred from the ambulance to a gurney.

A loud groan escaped his lips, and he opened each eye a bit to see flashing lights above, then a sharp turn to the right, where he came to a rest.

Just then, a tall black fox walked by, stopping a few feet from the end of the bed to look at the otter laying there, barely conscious, but a few moments later, the fox kept walking, not wanting to get in the way...

***

The next morning, Sam cracked open each eye to see that he was in a drab looking room, several devices attached to him and beeping.

Then, he saw that his parents were sitting in the chairs next to his bed.

"Why are you here?" The last two furs he wanted to see sat there, waiting for him to wake up.

"Oh honey! We got a call last night from the hospital, they said you had been in a terrible accident." His mother spoke now, Sam's father sitting beside her, silent.

The morphine was doing little to dull the pain over his whole body.

Sam turned away, not even able to look at either of them.

"We just want what is best for you, and I'm sorry that this was your reaction, but we won't give up on you Sam, we want to help you cure this disease..." His father spoke this time.

That was all Sam needed to hear.

"You still think that this is some fucking sickness that I have, that I need to be cured?" All he could do was raise his voice, the pain in his chest was too much.

"Yes, your soul is broken, and it needs to be set on the right path, and there is a man not too far from here, he is called a... oh what was it..." She turned to his father, looking for an answer.

"A converter, there are a few steps to it, but you can still change." And with that, Sam started screaming.

He didn't say anything, but just threw his head back and screamed at the top of his lungs, his paws bunched into fists as his voice echoed around in the room, and both of his parents recoiled in shock.

The frustration Sam felt was far beyond what he experienced yesterday, he hated both of them, he hated them more than anything.

"What is going on in here?" A large bear came in, his body filling up the doorway.

"Get these fucking people out of here..." Sam hissed to the male standing by the side of the bed.

"GET THEM THE FUCK OUT!" This time, he screamed the words even louder, twisting his body back and forth to try and get free of the mess of wires and tubes.

"You two are going to have to leave until he calms down, I'm sorry, but you have to go."

A few moments later, and they were gone, along with the bear.

The wave of anger passed, and Sam suddenly felt very tired, and drained of energy.

***

The next day, his parents were not waiting for him to wake up.

None was in the room.

Sam was alone.

"Can I come in?" The voice shocked Sam, he opened his eyes with a start, and sat up suddenly.

"Who are you?" He replied in a shaky voice.

"I don't think you remember me, I saw you crash your car, and pulled you out." A black fox poked his head in the door, his large eyes catching Sam's.

Not even waiting for a reply, the slender fur opened the door the rest of the way, making his way over to the bed, setting a cup of something warm on the bed-side table.

"I thought you might want some coffee, I don't think you would want to have what is served here..."

"Thanks... " Sam picked up the coffee with his left paw, and sipped on the steaming liquid.

He sat there, wondering why the fox cared about him at all, but still glad to have someone to talk to.

"My name is Alex by the way." Sam set his drink down to shake paws with the fox.

"Hi there, I'm Sam, thanks for the coffee." He picked up the warm drink with his webbed paw, taking a few more sips.

"I know it's not really any of my business, but what happened between you and your parents?" Alex had a worried look on his face, his tail wrapped around the leg of the chair as he asked the question.

"Well, for starters, I came home from school, and they told me that they had found my toy, as well as some books... they both thought that I was sick, and that I could be fixed if I would stop being gay" Sam struggled with that last word, not really used to using it.

"My parents tried to do the same thing with me when they found out, I was 16 at the time, and when I turned 17 I moved out. I still went to school, but for a while I was talked about a lot, even among my friends." The fox said those words quietly, looking down as he talked.

"Fuck 'em then." Sam raised the cup to Alex's, and they drank their coffees in silence.

A few minutes later, Sam spoke up.

"I don't think I will ever set foot in my house ever again. If they won't accept me, then I don't want to be their son..."

"You don't owe them anything, you don't have to prove anything to them, nor anyone else." Alex replied in a serious tone.

"Alex, I know, I am just really confused right now, and a little scared because the only way I will be able to live at home from now on is if I let my parents try and "fix" me."

"What if, until you found your own place or could stay with another friend or relative, you were to come and stay with me?" He stammered over his words, drumming his short claws on the end table as he spoke.

"I uhm... I guess I can, I might be able to leave tomorrow, depending on what the doctors say." Sam looked away, slightly blushing.

And then as if on cue, the male nurse walked in, with several sheets of paper in his paw.

"Well, Sam, the news looks good, you don't have any brain damage, and your ribs should heal up in a couple of weeks. I can get your discharge papers, and in the next few hours you can be rolling out of here."

"What about my parents, don't they have to sign for me?" Sam had a worried look on his face, sitting up slightly.

"They didn't tell me much, but with your reaction earlier, I don't know if I want them to be in the same room as you."

"Did they tell you that when they found out I am gay, both of them tried to send me to a priest to see if I could be converted, that I am sick, and I can be cured?" He was angry now, recalling the memories of the fights.

"In that case, I think that it is in your best interest to stay with a close friend or family member for the next while." The bear had a saddened look on his face.

"It's your call."

"For now, I am going to stay with Alex." For a moment, the tall bear looked confused, until Sam gestured to the fox next to him

"If that's what you want, then I can't say no."

"It's what would be the easiest right now." Alex was silent beside him, his tail wrapped tightly around his right leg.

Sam just nodded, and inside of a second the bear separated the sheet of paper from the stack in his paw, and handed it to the otter.

Barely an hour later, Sam was on his way out the door, suitcase and backpack carried by the fox.

"My car is the grey one parked over there." Alex gestured with a free paw, start black against the white background.

As they pulled out of the parking lot, both of them were silent, not much had been said between the two of them, but Sam felt as ease with the fox.

"Do you need me to stop anywhere?"

"The bank, and them my house, I can direct you to both."

"Do you want to listen to some music?" Sam could tell that Alex wanted to break the silence.

"Sure, do you have any Of Monsters And Men?"

"You are in luck..." As Alex said that, he dug into his pocket to pull out his mobile phone, plugging it into the auxiliary jack.

"Do you know where the Community credit union is, near the post office?"

"Yea, I go there for my banking." And a few moments later, they pulled up on the bank.

"You can wait in the car, I won't be too long."

"Alright..." Alex sat back in his seat, breathing deeper to catch the scent of the otter.

Slightly limping, Sam made his way to the door of the large bank, having to forcefully pull the door open because of the air pressure differences.

The tigress behind the front counter smiled warmly at him, greeting Sam as he approached.

"How can I help you today sir?"

"I would like to withdraw some funds from my account." It had been a while since he had even checked to see how much was in it, and had to hope that his parents hadn't froze it yet.

"OK what is your account number?" He spoke the string of numbers rapidly, but the tigress was able to keep up.

"Your balance is currently $782 even, how much would you like to take out?"

Sam had made his mind up on the way here. If he left anything in his checking account his parents would just take it.

"All of it, please." His voice was shaking and he rapidly tapped his short nails on the counter.

The female cleared her throat, then spoke.

"Can I see some ID please?"

He felt something inside of him, right then and there, he quickly realized that there was no turning back after he walked out of that bank.

Barely five minutes later, he was doing just that, slowly walking out to the idling car, where Sam was still sitting. He gasped as he bent down to get into the small car, his ribs feeling like they were piercing his skin.

So many things were going through his mind, he didnt even notice that Sam was talking to him.

"Hey, is everything alright?"

This was the first time that he noticed the scars on his arms, he had forgotten about them for the longest time, the slightly parted fur was hard to notice, and unless one were to look closely, they could not see the scar tissue.

"I will show you where I live, I have a few things I need to pick up from there." His taught lips showed signs of stress as he just gazed out the window, the bright sky lighting up the world outside.

Alex put the car into gear, and backed out of the small parking lot, and as Sam directed him to turn left or right when necessary, the houses soon began to get bigger, and more lavish.

Finally, at the end of a long street, Sam pointed, "Just pull into the drive way, I wont be very long."

Alex looked nervous, he didnt know what to expect, he wanted to go inside with the otter, but he knew he should avoid a confrontation with the parents.

Sam didnt even knock, he just opened the door, expecting his parents to be sitting in the living room, as they had a few days ago, but the house was hauntingly silent.

He wasted no time as he pulled out a bigger suitcase, and began to fill it with his clothing, anything else he would need, and then padded to the bathroom to grab anything else he might need.

After he was done, with his bags sitting by the door, he took one last look around, watching as the light was broken up by the crystal chandelier, scattering the different colors across the one wall behind it.

The cold air greeted him as he flung open the door, not caring to close it behind him as he gathered up his bags and started outside, and then a car pulled in, next to Alex's, sitting inside were his parents.

Both of them got out, and started to walk towards Sam, but he made his way to the car second car, and motioned for Alex to open the trunk, ignoring his parents as they spoke. Their words didnt even reach his ears, he was so intent on getting away from them, his mother thought that he was a monster, and his father was too spineless do go against her. This was not the family he wanted, it had never been.

After setting his larger bags in the trunk of the small car, Sam strode towards the passenger car door, he attempted to open it, but his father put his paw out and slammed it shut.

"Please, dont do this, your mother is wrong, you dont need to be fixed." Then she started shouting at him, appalled that he was going against her, but he decided that now was the time.

"Dad, I know that you mean that, but this is something I need to do, its not good for either of us to stay here, and if I want to, I will come home.." Several drops fell down onto the pavement, the fur around his eyes damp.

Nothing was said between father and son, he just got into the car, and sank down into the seat, gasping from the pain in his ribs and gritting his teeth, his mother still shouting, but he could barely hear her now.

"Drive" Sam said in a curt tone, and Alex nodded, putting the car into gear and backing out of the drive, driving away from the house.

Thank you for reading!
