Chapter Nine Luxury

Patrick woke up in a queen sized mattress. The sun shone the open window, showering the feline with light and the breeze from the ocean. He woke up calm. He could take his time. He didn't have to be anywhere until past night. He stretched, turning on his side, looking out the second floor window in one of the guest rooms of George's lavish house. He picked his glasses up off the side drawer and put them on, taking in the view of the ocean. He was dressed in silk pajamas he bought with a dead woman's credit card only days ago. He took his time in the shower, enjoying his freedom. He was excited to finally have the money to get out of the planet and live somewhere else. A real planet, to go to school, or work a normal job. The thrill of having a normal life was almost overwhelming to him. He found himself laughing whenever he thought about it. In the master bedroom of the house laid Hank. Hank didn't like that George was insistent on sleeping with Hank every night Hank was staying over. Hank knew it was better to keep George happy if he wanted another job in the future, and he wasn't going to turn down sex. George was making coffee downstairs in the kitchen, after helping Hank with a morning service. Hank stared at the ceiling, thinking about diamonds. He had gone over the plan over and over in his head. First, he was going to offer Patrick's services to a man named Bernie. A pudgy skunk working for the mob. The skunk was notorious for liking the young strippers of Namiqxotistk. While Patrick distracted him, Bernie would close the shop, leaving the two alone. Since Hank was acting as the kid's agent, he would close the shop up for Bernie. He would then rob the place blind. His only worry was Patrick unable to perform the necessary acts to distract the skunk long enough. Hank lazily got up, shuffling into the master bathroom to get ready. He had to dress himself up nicer than usual. George was eating toast and eggs when Patrick walked down into the kitchen, throwing on a fashionable sweater. He didn't need to dress up as much, being younger. A suit would make him look older than he needed to look. George smiled warmly at Patrick, "Good morning." He paused, "Have a seat, I made eggs, bacon and toast for you guys." Patrick nodded, sitting across from the human. He ate the food slowly, making himself some coffee. George swallowed the last of his toast and said, "Are you ready? The cruise leaves tonight." Patrick nodded, "I'm as ready as I'll ever be." He took a fork-full of scrambled eggs. "Well, let's hope things don't go wrong. I wouldn't want for you to fail your first job." Patrick looked down at his food and sighed, "What if I didn't want to work again after this?" George cleared his throat, "Then do this job right, and you can get to where you want to start your new life." He took another sip from his coffee, "Why, if I may ask, do you want to get out of a place as profitable as here?" Patrick shrugged, "I'd like to live somewhere simpler, where I can relax." George chuckled, "Funny. That's why people come here." Patrick let out of forced laugh, "Well, I've been on vacation long enough. I think it's time I had a normal life." George smiled, taking another sip of coffee, "And what is normal? I think you'll realize that what you look for is what you will never find." Hank walked into the kitchen, without a word. Silently grabbing a piece of toast, his tie still untied around his neck, eating his food in the doorway, leaning against the wall. George looked up to him, "Are you ready to go? Hank nodded, "I'm always ready. When are we going?" "In a few hours. I would make sure you have everything you need before then. If you need to shop, now would be the time." George said, in a knowing tone of voice. Hank laughed, "Right, I should go buy some ammo and tools." George nodded, "Take Patrick with you. You should get him armed, as well." Patrick shook his head, "I already have a gun." George looked over at him, "Have you, now?" "I bought it the other night. Just in case." George laughed to himself, "And you say you want to live the peaceful life?" Patrick shrugged, feeling a little embarrassed and a thought to himself that he wasn't going to miss George when he left. He stood up, "I guess I can go with him. I might need to get some ammo and supplies, too." George nodded and went back to his breakfast, "Alright, Take my car. The tickets are in the glove compartment. You don't have to come back here, so I would bring your bags, just in case." Patrick nodded and said, "Thanks for hiring me for this." "Thank me when you make it back." replied George. Patrick walked back to his room, getting all this things ready. He looked over his gun, aiming it at a bird flying over the waves in the distance. He heard Hank's voice say, "Have you ever shot that thing before?" Patrick was startled and looked over at Hank, who was leaning against the door frame. Patrick shook his head, "Not yet. I haven't really gotten a chance to practice." Hank then said, "How much ammo do you have? Patrick looked in his bag, "60, I think.. Maybe 80 bullets." "That's a lot just for self defense." Hank replied. Patrick shrugged, "The guy I bought it from gave me a deal. I think he just didn't want to have to see me again." Hank chuckled, "Well, alright. I'm sure you'll get some practice later. Things never go according to plan." He walked toward the bed, tossing Patrick's bag at him, "Put your crap away, we're leaving. Now." It was a few hours later that they arrived. There was a fleet of small air crafts. A few at a time would rise into the air, finding their way to a massive space ship, suspended in the air about a mile up. As Patrick marveled at it, Hank said to him, "You've been on one of these once, right?" Patrick nodded, "Yeah. Only once. It was nice." "Well, don't get too relaxed. Even though we'll be on this thing a few days before Mars. We still got to find this badger" Hank pulled a picture out of his coat and gave it to Patrick. It was a picture of a Badger in a suit. He had a serious expression on his face. Patrick put the picture in his jacket pocket. An usher lead them into one of the carriages. Once inside, they were alone, waiting for a woman on the speaker to stop talking about safety and advertising all the different cruise features. They paid close attention to the shopping district announcements. Taking mental notes on where they were going to have to go. They both sighed, seeing how many jewelers there were on the ship. Hank laughed, "Well, didn't think it would be too easy." Patrick shrugged, "At last we know where to look, now." Hank nodded, sitting back in his chair, "Nice to see you're taking this serious." "I don't want to have to do another one of these jobs." Patrick sighed. Hank nodded, "You don't like excitement?" Patrick shook his head, "I've had enough excitement, thank you." "Alright, suit yourself. Where are you going to go after this?" Patrick shrugged, "I dunno. Maybe one of the United Planets. A lot of people came to see me from there." Hank laughed, "I'll give you a week before you come back to Namiq for something to do." Patrick shrugged, "Willing to put money on that?" "If I were ever in a position to pay you for that bet, you would have already lost." Hank smirked, the air craft coming to a stop. The doors opened and a woman in a dress led them into a massive lobby aboard the space cruiser. There were dozens of older people in suits being herded off into different hallways to their extravagant rooms. Patrick and Hank's room was no exception. It was down the hall a bit of a walk. It was one of the low end rooms, however it was still something to be admired. There was a single bed, a large bed, a fireplace, a small wine rack, some windows that were shielded until the entire ship was pulled back into an orbiting space craft. The two threw their bags on the bed and Hank said, "I'll order a cot if you like. You can have the bed if you really want to." Patrick nodded and looked through his bags, "Hey wait.. Why didn't they check our luggage?" Hank laughed to himself, "When you're paying as much as George is, you don't get asked questions." Patrick sat on the bed, "What exactly does George do?" Hank shrugged, "I really don't care to know. It's probably best that neither of us do." Patrick wanted to press on, but decided against it. Hank picked up on it and said, "Look, if it makes you feel better, these diamonds were probably stolen by these mob guys. I'm guessing they belonged to George beforehand." Patrick nodded, laying back on the bed, "Ready to go shopping?" Hank took out the Devirginizer, making sure it was loaded and ready, "Whenever you are."
