Well now you get to see what happens to Spyro and Cynder in the tenth installment of the Spyro Chronicles. Let the title be a guide for you...

Chapter 10: Visions of Armageddon

Spyro, Cynder, Karson, and Allison appeared out of thin air and landed on a metal floor. Karson and Allison shakily got to their feet. Karson felt a little sick. He walked into the hallway and threw up. Allison looked around. The walls and floors matched the interior of the Archilles. She walked into the hall way with Karson. The walls seemed aged, they were falling into disrepair. Allison told Karson to watch Spyro and Cynder. Allison walked off into the hallways looking for any signs of life. She didn't find anyone.

She did manage to find a medical room. She got Spyro and Cynder situated in there. Karson tried to remove the bullet and patch up Spyro's wounds as best he could. Allison went and adventured the ship. She didn't find anyone. After walking a while, she came across the bridge of the ship. She then saw that the ship had crashed. They weren't in the dragon realms though. The forest surrounding the vessel was made of evergreens and pine trees. The sky had an eerie orange color to it. It was cloudy and there were no signs of life. She found a single terminal operational. She hacked into it. She found out they were on board the Trident. It was a UERNF frigate. She had heard the name before, not because it was a UERNF ship, but she had heard the name before. Then she remembered that it was part of the 7th battle group stationed at Sirus 12. It was one of the only ships to manage a jump back to Desmal (the UER rally point).

But why were they inside of it. She thought. And a bigger question was, how they were going to get back. She walked back to the med bay. She found Karson patching up Spyro's wounds. She walked over to him and described their situation.

"What the hell? How are we going to get back if we are in another system?"

"Maybe there are some humans around. Maybe we can get reinforcements to jump to the dragon realms."

"We have no idea what the coordinates are." Karson said with a sad look on his face. They stood there, not knowing what to do. Karson sighed. He walked over to the door and peered out.

"You sure you didn't find anyone on the ship?" Karson asked looking back at Allison.

"No. I didn't see anyone. The ship is abandoned."

"I am going to go see what I can find." Karson said walking off into the ship. He ventured through the ship. There was no sign of life. There was only one ship still inside of the hanger bay though. A UERMC Nighthawk drop ship. He walked some more and came to the bridge. Allison was right. The ship had crashed nose first into the ground. There were evergreen trees surrounding the ship. Karson walked into a weapons locker located behind the bridge. He found some M74Ds along with a new rifle. He had never seen this one before. It had a marking on it to indicate its name: M75A. He had never seen one before. He picked up one of the M74Ds, since there was more ammo for it, and found a crate marked "Special Munitions". He opened the crate and found several clips for the M74D, M10 SMGs, and the M2E standard issue pistol. He picked up a clip and realized what they were.

This was new ammo that was under development. It was strange that experimental ammo would be on the front. The ammo had a special metal coating which reacted differently to temperatures. If the bullet struck a cold surface such as metal, the bullet would contract and penetrate with ease. If it hit a warm surface such as skin, the bullet would expand, and with explosive force. In other words, one bullet would be the equivalent to an 8 gauge shotgun shell at pointblank range.

He grabbed as much ammo and weapons he could carry and put them inside of the Nighthawk he saw earlier. He walked back to the med bay. Allison was tending to Cynder's wounds.

"Far as I can tell, there are no humans on board this ship. But I did find an operational Nighthawk in the hanger and I also found this." He presented her with a clip of the special munitions ammo he had found earlier.

"How'd you get these? They are still in development."

"I found them in a weapon locker behind the bridge. He handed her a rifle. She stood up and picked up Spyro.

"Well, we can't stay here. Let's go use that Nighthawk you found."

"Alright." Karson said grabbing Cynder. After they put both Spyro and Cynder on the Nighthawk they went back to the med room. They grabbed what supplies they could and went back to the Nighthawk.

"Do you know how to fly this thing?" Karson asked looking at Allison.

"Yea, my dad was a pilot. He showed me how to fly. Shouldn't be much different." She hit the controls and the ship flew out of the open airlock. Karson took a look at the Trident before they cleared it. It was battered and broken. Holes dotted her much abused hull and the engines were almost blown out. He walked over to Spyro and Cynder. He checked their pulses. Spyro's was still weak and Cynder's was a little stronger, but they both were in need of medical attention. He looked back through the open troop bay and saw the landscape. The area looked familiar. The mountain ranges in the background and trees dotted the landscape.

Allison flew the drop ship as best she could. The ship was a little aged; the drop ship must have been in there for a while. She wondered just badly the war against the Lakadors had been. She saw something in the distance. When she saw it get bigger she nearly went into excitement, and her heart sank at the same time. She pulled the drop ship into a landing sequence.

Karson felt the ship maneuver and he looked out of the troop bay to see that she was landing. She bolted out of the cockpit and ran out onto a hill. Karson grabbed his M74D and ran towards her. He saw why she had stopped.

A human city lay in front of him. It was battered, destroyed and desolated. Smoke columns rose from the destruction and an eerie wind whipped the air around him. He saw a sign and ran up to it. It read: Welcome to Threshold, USA.

"Threshold? Threshold, Earth? That's where the damn UERDF HQ is. If, if the Lakadors already hit here then, the wars over." Allison said with a pale face. Karson looked at her.

"Come on, let's go check it out." They both ran back to the Nighthawk. It ascended and flew towards the city. They flew over it and saw just how devastated it was. There were no signs of human life or any life for that matter. It was abandoned. Allison spotted an opened up street just wide enough to land. Karson and Allison stepped off the ship and looked around. Bricks and pieces of debris littered the street. A wind whipped through the streets and papers blew away in the wind.

Karson walked over to a helmet lying on the ground. It was a marine helmet.

"What do you think happened here?" Allison said. Karson stood up and looked down. He saw a bullet casing on the ground. He picked it up and looked at it.

Suddenly, a squad of three marines appeared in front of Karson. They were firing their assault rifles outward. They all had fearful looks in their faces. Karson looked at what they were shooting at. Several unusual creatures ran up and assaulted the marines. The marines started to backpedal, firing their assault rifles. One of the creatures jumped up and grabbed the lead marine. He screamed as the creature bit his neck. The marine fell over firing his assault rifle in the air. The other two marines blindly fired their rifles and one of them yelled something incoherent.

Their rifles soon ran out of ammo and they turned to flee. Suddenly they disappeared, along with their attackers. They were replaced by an eerie calm. Karson looked around. The street was baron.

Suddenly a craze filled man appeared in the street. He was running. Several creatures gave chase. Karson watched in horror as the man was ripped limb from limb. Suddenly it all disappeared. Again it was replaced by the same eerie calm.

Karson was wondering what the hell was going on around here when several tanks materialized out of thin air. They were headed right for him. He wanted to move but something had his boots firmly planted into the ground. The tanks passed right through him. The tanks continued on and disappeared. Karson looked around. Allison had a very frightened look on her face. She was probably seeing the same things he was too.

Allison looked at him. He saw tears in her eyes. Allison had indeed seen the visions. And worse, she recognized the creatures from the Mazdo op back on Sirus 12. Karson turned and saw a newspaper flapping in the wind. He picked it up and read the date. He felt a wave of coldness wash over him as he saw the date.

When the Archilles made the jump out of system (Sirus 12) on the standard military clock it was March 22, 2204. They had only been in combat in the dragon realms for a few days. The date on the newspaper was August 14, 2254. They were 50 years into the future.

"What the hell?!" Karson said as he motioned Allison over. She gasped as she read the date.

"But how, we've only been gone for a few days!" Allison exclaimed.

"So, we are in the future?" Karson asked.

"Alas, you are indeed in the future." Said a stern male voice.

Spyro stood there. He was surrounded by darkness. He looked around. He couldn't figure out where he was. He saw Cynder's face, but she was sad. He had no clue what was going on. He saw dragons appear out of nowhere. They were sad too. He asked them what was wrong, but they paid him no mind. Spyro saw a dragon being carried by several dragons. His body was limp and it was a purple dragon. He looked a lot like Spyro. He looked a lot older. He also saw them caring out a human.

Spyro walked around for a bit and heard voices. He was pulled from his dream and awoke with a start. He opened his eyes. He was in the troop bay of a Nighthawk. He saw Cynder lying across from him. She was asleep and looked like she was in great pain. Spyro let out a sad sigh. It was because of him she was so hurt. He would loose his love and it would all be his fault. He looked at his chest. There was a white cloth strapped to his chest. There was a large red spot on the cloth. He got up and his legs exploded with pain. He slowly tried to move to Cynder. His legs wouldn't respond to his commands. He sighed and looked around. There were a lot of boxes with red crosses on them and boxes labeled as ammo. He thought of all the pain that he caused her. She didn't deserve that. It was his entire fault. If he had tried harder, he could have avoided capture and wouldn't have put them through that.

Cynder lay there in great pain. She was worried that she might never get to see Spyro again. Karson had said that unless they got him medical attention, Spyro would die. She didn't care if she was in pain. All she wanted to do was to see Spyro again. She wanted to hold him like she did back in the cave. She wanted to feel his lips pressed against hers. She couldn't stand loosing him. Worse, it would be her fault if Spyro died. She wouldn't be able to live with herself if that happened.

Cynder's thoughts were interrupted when she saw something. It was a large temple like the one they just rescued Allison in. Except this one was bigger. She didn't know what it was. She stared at it for a while when she noticed a large light appear and shoot out of it. A light grew from the temples base and her vision was obscured.

Cynder opened her eyes and looked around. She was inside of a Nighthawk. She looked around and saw Spyro. Spyro was looking around when he spotted Cynder. They both smiled at each other knowing they would be alright. Cynder saw the bandage on Spyro's chest where she had shot him. She looked around and didn't see Karson or Allison.

"Cynder..." Spyro said very hoarse. She looked at him and smiled.

"Oh Spyro, I'm glad to see your alright." She said with a tear forming in her eye. She coughed and a bit of blood came out. Spyro saw this and frowned. Cynder saw him frown and knew why.

"Spyro it's not your fault."

"Yes it is! If I had tried harder, none of this would have happened." Spyro wanted to get up, but his legs still didn't move. Cynder struggled and got up on her feet. She shuddered and tried to maintain her balance, but she was weak. She stumbled over to Spyro's side and hugged him as hard as she could.

"Oh Spyro, it wasn't your fault. No one blames you for what you did." Spyro thought back to when he told Cynder the very same thing a few months ago at the temple before the night of eternal darkness. (TLOS night of eternal darkness beginning when Cynder is running away from the temple) He smiled and managed to lift his fore legs to return the hug.

"Cynder, I'm just sorry for what happened."

"Don't be. Just be thankful that we are together again." With that they locked in a loving kiss. They sat there for a moment. They heard voices and they broke the kiss. Spyro managed with all of his strength to get his legs to move. He stumbled on the ground and Cynder helped him move out of the troop bay. They looked up and saw Karson and Allison looking at a piece of paper. They looked confused. Spyro and Cynder walked up to them just in time to hear a very stern male voice say: "Alas you are indeed in the future."

They saw a hooded figure standing in front of them. Cynder walked up and Allison saw her and smiled.

"Who are you?" Karson asked.

"That is not important. What is important is why you are here."

"Why are we here?" Allison asked.

"I have brought you here to show you something very dire." Spyro, with the help of Cynder, managed to limp up by now. The hooded figure looked them over.

"So it's true..." The hooded figure said in a low mumble. Karson looked at him rather peculiar.

"What's true? Karson asked.

"Nothing that concerns you, not yet anyway." He replied.

"Then why are we here?" Cynder asked.

"I need to show you four something. Come." They followed the mysterious figure as he led them through the devastated streets of Threshold. They saw just how bad things really were. Cynder managed to catch up to Allison. She asked where they were. Allison then told them how they were 50 years into the future and how they were on Earth, the human home world.

"So this is your home world? Why is it like this?" Cynder asked moving Spyro into a better position. (She was carrying him)

"We don't know yet." Allison responded. She looked at Karson and he knew what she wanted.

"So, what exactly happed here?" Karson finally asked the figure.

"What happened here was a massacre." They all looked at him funny.

"A massacre? So the Lakadors won?" The figure chuckled.

"Do you think that the Lakadors are capable of this? No, the Lakadors would never do this. What did this are the most evil beings in existence."

"Who are they then?" Karson asked with frustration in his voice.

"They are the Plague." The figure said with sheer hate in his voice. He stopped and turned to face them. They couldn't see his face though. He stood there for a moment while they took in what they heard.

"The Plague? What's that?" Cynder asked. The figure turned to face her.

"The Plague is a race of creatures that have been tainted. They once were dragons, ancients, and many other races of beings. But, when they were exposed to high amounts of dark energy, they turned into these monsters. They attacked and ravaged our kind as well as the dragons. That's what started the Great War."

"The great war? What's that? And who are these ancients?" Karson asked the figure.

"The ancients are a powerful race of human beings. They were incredibly brilliant for their age. They had mastered space flight along with many other things. They built the massive temples that dominate the land and the one you four were in earlier. They could master the elements and wield them as any dragon could." He paused before his next statement.

"The Great War was a conflict between the Council, a group of creatures that included dragons and the Ancients, and The Plague. It was a long conflict and was a lost one. The Plague massacred the Council's forces. And since the Plague can be made by exposing the body to immense and pure dark energy, when a Plague bites you, it can transform you into one." Karson, Allison, Spyro and Cynder both stood there awe struck at what he was saying.

"Well if it was a loosing war, then how are we still here?"

"Alas, The Plague was finally stopped by one final weapon of light that the Council had built. When they used it however, something went wrong. Something intervened with the firing sequence and the weapon only did half of its job. Instead of completely destroying the Plague, the weapon only transported them somewhere. And now, they are coming back." Karson looked at him.

"What happened to the Ancients?"

"Many of them were killed trying to activate the weapon. The rest of the Council was also destroyed along with most of the Ancients."

"So why are we here then?" He asked.

"To show you what will happen if you don't stop them." The figure responded.

"So you are saying that they will destroy the human race?" Allison asked.

"Yes, along with all life as we know it." The figure responded.

"So what? We just sit here and let them destroy everything?" Cynder asked.

"There is a way to stop them. All will be known to you when the time is right." The figure turned to face the street. He held out his palm and they started to lift into the air. He flew them around until they were hovering in the middle of the city.

"You must stop them. You are our only hope. You are the universes only hope."

"Why us? Why are we so special?" Karson asked. Spyro managed to maneuver himself upright. He looked strait into the hooded figures face. It was pitch black.

"You four are the chosen ones. You shall cleanse the galaxy of this curse once and for all." They felt themselves being pushed and they landed right next to the Nighthawk. The hooded figure landed next to the drop ship.

"Be weary young ones and let this be known, time is not always written in stone. I can send you back to your time so you can destroy the Plague forever." They boarded the drop ship and they gave him one last look before the drop ship ascended into the heavens with a glow around it.

As they took off, the figure removed his hood revealing his blond hair and human face. He looked off to the drop ship and sighed.

"Good luck chosen ones; may the ancestors watch over you. May they watch over us all." Light enveloped the drop ship and it vanished. As the light disappeared the man chuckled.

"If only they knew the truth."

End of Chapter 10

Well, I managed to cheer myself up and got myself to type this chapter. There is a lot of information in this chapter so if you skimmed through this chapter, I suggest that you go back and read slowly.

I am also curious to know what truth that the figure spoke of.

Until then, you will have to wait until I launch the next chapter.
