Orion and The Fox
#1 of Orion and the Fox
Chapter 1
Comments are Always Welcomed.
They say that legends and prophecies are based on hard to believe truth. Elders of every generation make up stories to help young minds understand them. One such legend comes to mind that my great grandfather told me when I was little. He told me "That one day animals would walk among us humans and a shiny paradise would be created. A kitsune shall be the first to arrive and would be the one to guide us. It was also foretold this kitsune would fall in love with a human. Whose spirit is identical to theirs in a lot of ways.
At first I didn't think much of his story something about didn't seem very true. I always looked back and wondered perhaps at the root of his stories withheld some truth. The question that seems to remain was how much and for what purpose. Sadly before I could go visit my great grandfather he had passed away peacefully the night before. When everything was said and done he left me his entire library of books. Every book containing years of research, documents and ancient tomes he gathered over his life.
Over the last few weeks of my summer I spent reading his collection of research. Trying to find some truth behind the legend of the kitsune he talked a lot about. Every book I red came up empty all I could find was the story he told me. First thing the following morning pitch black clouds were on the distant horizon. Judging from the wind the storm would be hitting this area by late afternoon or evening. As me and a few other students, we waited on the sidewalk for the school bus. I was still thinking I missed some important detail that would burst the legend wide open.
After arriving at school the day simply dragged on like a slow turning gear. While the storm I saw in the sky grew closer, yet it raged like a wild beast. By the time I got home the storm had blanketed the entire rural city. Lightning crackled across the clouds, the wind blew violently and yet not a single drop of rain. As I looked out my bedroom window watching with unhindered curiosity while the storm raged outside. A loud crack boomed shaking my house, while a blinding flash caused me to hit the floor. Nothing moved or breathed for a good while, before I stood up and looked out my window.
When I did the storm was gone and a small crater was occupying my backyard. For some unknown reason my curiosity got the better of me and I went outside. I grabbed my rain coat and a plastic umbrella just in case. As I stepped cautiously onto the strangely dry lawn, slowly approaching the crater. When I reached the edge of the crater it wasn't big or very deep. Suddenly I caught sight of something moving in the billowing smoke. "Who's down there, is anyone hurt?" I asked with concern. Before I knew it, something launched from the smoke tackling me to the ground.
The figure held onto my chest very tight, as I heard sounds of muffled crying. So I carefully looked down at the figure clutching onto me, I gazed upon a pair of deep and bright sapphire blue eyes. Sadly before I could ask anything my guest passed out. So carried my unconscious guest awkwardly into my home and pried her off of me. Gently placing her down on the couch then I checked her for any injures. My next task was to clean off all the smoke residue and debris that she was covered in.
I spent a good hour cleaning her up all the while trying to avoid key bodily areas. Unknown to me I couldn't take my eyes off her rare beauty then it hit me like a ton of bricks. My guest wasn't human at all she was a kitsune though all I saw was three fluffy tails. She looked like an average human girl with full fox features from head to toe. As I placed her hand in mine, a sharp pain shot up my arm like a bullet. Before I could even cry out in pain everything around me went black.
"My dear human it's far too soon for us to be together. For now I'll be watching over you from the shadows. When the time is right and the moon is full we shall meet again. Until then this mark on your hand will be the key to our reunion. Take care my precious, Orion goodbye." A heavenly voice whispered. When I finally came to my mother was sitting beside me wiping my forehead with a cool, damp face cloth. I sprang up into a sitting position and looked around the living room. My mother asked what was the matter as I went to tell her the memories weren't there.
Later on that night as I laid on my bed wondering was it just a dream. That lovely young fox girl, the storm, no it felt so real it must have happened. Why else would I have this rather odd mark on my hand if it was a dream. A while later as my body slept I couldn't help but, feel someone watching me. For the next six long years that feeling never went away. On the verge of my twenty first birthday, I was getting ready to attend my first year of college. The mark on my hand never went away either it actually changed as I matured into an adult.
Throughout my high school years I dated a bit, never really found the right woman. Though most of the women I did date were very attractive and modest people. Breaking up with them was hard but, I felt I was simply stringing them along. Luckily they were very understanding of my decision and most of us are still friends. One strange night as I slept a strange message came to me. "My dear, Orion the time has come for us to meet. I'll see you before you'll ever see me. Take care my love." The heavenly voice said before fading away.
The next morning as I walked to class, a few friends noticed I looked under the weather. I managed to put on a brave face and got through my day without trouble. As night time fell upon the university my hand kept burning. It kept me from concentrating on anything I was doing so I took some pain killers. Those merely dulled the pain enough to let me concentrate on my homework. Sadly that only lasted an hour before the pain was back with a fury.
Luckily I did manage to get all my important assignments done before the pain had returned. So I decided it was time to stop for a quick meal. While I moved around the kitchen I couldn't shake this strange feeling of being watched. The feeling was soft at first but, it grew stronger the longer I stayed in the kitchen. Once I finished cooking I exited and sat down in the living room. Sadly the feeling didn't go away but, it did lessen some. So I was able to eat without having to look over my shoulder.
When my roommates returned to our dorm the feeling went away completely. Sitting there watching TV, my roommate, Scott noticed I was pale and my hand was shaking. I told him not to worry it was an old complaint that acts up now and again. That it would go away after a while and not to feed too much into it. Scott let the matter drop figuring I knew what I was talking about as my condition improved. As the night went on I turned in early said goodnight and went to my room.
When my head hit the pillow and as I drifted off to sleep something felt seriously off. I felt someone occupying the space of my own bed so I turned over. As I turned I came face to face with a pair of glowing blue eyes. "WHAT IN THE HELL?! WHO ARE YOU AND WHY ARE YOU IN MY BED?!" I shouted rolling off the bed and landing on the floor. The figure on my bed didn't say anything it simply watched me. Expecting my friends to come rushing into my room at any second.
Sadly after a while nobody showed up, it was like my voiced wasn't heard. My guest exhaled softly then moved to the edge of the bed without breaking eye contact. "The answers you seek can't be given in just words alone my love. Sometimes one's own actions can speak a mountain's worth of words." The gentle female voice replied. Something about her voice seemed so familiar, like I've heard it before. "Who are you?" I asked in a much calmer tone.
"Kyuri." She replied softly standing up. Her name rolled off the tongue like a vintage wine. Yet, it was her eyes they were so beautiful, soft and striking. I could only imagine what she truly looked like when bathed in the light. Before I knew it she wrapped her arms slowly around my neck. Instead of feeling soft skin, I felt silky soft fur against my neck. Not once did she break eye contact. The entire time since I first began sorting all this stuff out. She didn't say anything right away she stood there watching my mind go frantic.
"I do hope I haven't lost you my sweet, Orion." She cooed playfully blinking softly. "I...I umm, uh?" I stammered. "How articulate of you I gather you don't lose track of your wits very often?" She smiled rubbing her nose against mine. Like a jolt of lightning her cold nose sparked long forgotten memories to come bursting forth. Her deep, sapphire blue eyes sparkled as she saw the memories come rushing back. "You're that girl I brought inside my home during that nasty storm." I whispered softly. She blinked slowly as a knowing look formed in her eyes.
"Indeed, I was that young girl from that day." She said moving her head back a little. "So why couldn't I remember you until this very moment?" I asked pulling away from her. "Safety, being the top priority let's just say our first meeting was premature. Though I do thank you for attending me like you did. Despite what might have happened if I had remained there with you." She informed lowering her gaze from mine. "Okay, explain to me what might have happened." I remarked unsure of her intentions on the subject.
"Let's just say those that are keen on capturing me would've used you to get to me. So it was best that I block those memories and kept away from you until things were in my favor." She informed. "Okay, that answers one of my questions. Though I'm pretty sure I know the answers to the rest of them." I replied. "Not all but, some at least, Orion." She pointed out. "Um, would it be too much to ask to turn on some lights. I'd like to look at you, your eyes glowing like that are starting to unnerve me." I stated. "Why not wait until morning?" She wondered.
"Let me guess you're only a shadow projection of some kind?" I remarked. "Yes, though my actual self will be here before dawn. So please leave that window unlocked so I can enter. Also to avoid being seen or heard if that's not too much trouble for you." She informed pointing to the window behind me. "No, I can handle that though what about my roommates. It's not like you can avoid them seeing you for long. Eventually you're gonna be caught and have a lot of explaining to do. When that day inevitably comes around." I pointed out logically. "Perhaps, for now let's worry about here and now before concerning our selves with the future." She said nonchalantly.
"So how will I know it's the real you?" I asked. "That's simple the mark on your hand is a sign of our bond. It told you I was coming, hence the pain you experienced." She informed. "So it's going to throb when the real you is here?" I stated rolling my eyes a bit. "No, you'll just have to wait and find out." The projection said before vanishing. As I stood there contemplating the info her messenger gave me. It was a lot to take in but, it made plenty of sense the more I thought about it. The rest of my questions would simply have to wait until she arrived in the morning.
So I sat down on my bed and looked at where the projection came from and pictured the real thing there. With a shrug of my shoulders I laid down, grabbed my blanket, and turned away from the window. It only took me twenty minutes to fall asleep and dream the rest of the night away. A short time later I felt the bed sink a little then felt a warm presence snuggle up against my back. This woke me right up but, I remained still wondering if this was another projection paying me a visit. I could sense a second heartbeat and exhale caressing my neck softly. "Hello, Kyuri." I said looking over my shoulder.
"Hello, yourself so what kept you from greeting me the second I laid down." She stated as I rolled over to face her. "Perhaps I wanted to make sure that it was really you and not another projection." I pointed out. She simply smiled at me then gently placed her arms around my neck. The sun began to rise just off to the left of my bedroom. Yet it slowly filled my room with a soft orange and yellow light. Not enough to fill the room but, plenty to highlight everything. As the room got brighter the more I could make out. From some of the dreams I had they couldn't hold a candle to Kyuri's real life beauty. Any woman I could compare her to would become extremely jealous of Kyuri.
My eyes moved down to study Kyuri's features and the first thing I noticed were her tails. I counted nine all together each one moved independently from the other eight. Each one held and granted her a special power that I would come to learn about. Something told me not to ask right away since it would be rude. She could see I had questions but, she marveled at the fact I restrained myself. Though the sound of my stomach demanding food broke the rather sweet moment. "It would seem your stomach has spoken and demands satisfaction." She stated smiling at me. I couldn't bring myself to comment on her smart remark, even though her smile melted my heart.
Of course my stomach wasn't the only one to begin barking orders for food. Sure enough about two minutes later a soft rumbling came Kyuri's tummy also. "What was that about my stomach demanding satisfaction seems like yours just joined the ranks." I remarked with a smirk. "Mock me all you want human don't forget I'm the one able to use magic." She pointed out fanning her tails at me. "That may be but, you wouldn't dare cause me any harm unless I intend to cause you harm. Don't ask me how I know that cause I don't have the vaguest idea." I said. "Relax, not only do we share a mark of the body but, we share a link of the mind. Though we can't speak telepathically we can share memories and project images." She informed sitting up on the bed.
As I stood up I noticed that she was wearing a strange garment. It was a blend of a kimono and modern day clothing modified to accommodate her nine tails. Though I had to admit it suited her nicely she got up off the bed then made her way into the bathroom. "I'm going to go freshen up and I'll meet you in the kitchen momentarily." She said walking inside then closing the door. So I threw on some fresh clothes before leaving my room. As I walked around the apartment I checked to see if anyone was up. Sure enough to my relief nobody had woken up yet. So I dodged a bullet for the time being, until I start cooking breakfast.
I wasn't sure what she'd prefer for meal so I cooked something rather simple. By the time she joined me in the kitchen the pancakes were just about done. "Those smell heavenly it's been a while since I've had a good home cooked meal." Kyuri said sitting down at the table. With the plate in hand I turned around and didn't see the kitsune from earlier. "Let me guess a mere cloak to help you blend in?" I stated. "Naturally, only you can see the real me but, others will simply see an attractive female human." She informed making so where I could see her true form.
Sure enough the scent of food drew my roommates from there rooms a short time later. None of them seem to notice Kyuri sitting next to me at the table. Until they got a sip of coffee in their systems then it was a free for all. "Whoa, dude when did she sneak in here? Orion, since when did you earn this lovely chick's attention?" Scott replied acting real jealous. "Oh, don't even think about holding out on us, Orion we want details." Tim stated pointing his finger at me. "Now boys leave, Orion alone I was the one to approach him. Besides he's a real good listener unlike my previous boyfriends, he really pays very close attention to my every like and dislike." Kyuri pointed out affectionately.
"My question is how did you two actually meet? Neither, Scott or myself or our other friends have seen you around campus or the local hang outs." Tim pointed out. At this point was becoming very nervous due to Tim's sudden question. I glanced over at, Kyuri hoping her response would be able to perminently deflect the situation. "Do you three hang out every single minute of every day? I don't think so perhaps our meeting occurred while you two were elsewhere. Did you ever think for a moment that he was concerned you two would grill him nonstop. So he decided to keep me away until he knew for sure that wouldn't happen." She stated in a flat but, firm tone.
Both Scott and Tim refrained from asking her any more questions. Considering they didn't want to make things worse for me or themselves. Some thing about the look in her eyes told me she was only toying with them. Watching her mess with their minds like was rather amusing but, I didn't show it. After breakfast my friends left for their classes while I stayed to clean up the place. While Kyuri poked around the place getting used to where everything was.
After I finished drying the dishes I didn't hear Kyuri moving around anymore. So I went in search of her just case something was wrong. When I found she was reading a magazine on my bed and commenting on it. "What are you doing? You that doesn't really offer feedback to those that read it." I pointed out. "Oh, I know but, my question is why women subject themselves to such a thing. In my opinion if you're gonna pose naked for somebody it should be for your pre-mate of life mate." She replied holding the magazine up to me.
"W...W...Where did you find that?" I asked stammering a little. "Under your mattress a corner was sticking out. So I pulled it out and took a look." She said placing it back on the bed. My face turned four shades of red as she kept reading, my no longer secret porn magazine. "Would you mind putting it back?" I wondered covering my face. She looked at me, smiled but, complied and returned the magazine to its hiding place. "You okay you seem a little flushed you're not catching a cold?" She replied getting off the bed and walked towards me.
"N...No I'm just a little ashamed and embarrassed you found that." I pointed out. "Oh, don't worry about it I'm not offended you're wants and desires are only natural." She said. "So what do I have to bribe you with to keep your vow of silence?" I questioned. "*Giggles.* Nothing to be honest I would've assumed something was wrong with you. If you didn't have at least one of those kinds of magazines stashed away." She informed. "Ah, okay." I stated feeling defeated. Kyuri gave me a nice warm hug to lift my spirits some.
As the morning went on I began getting my things ready for my afternoon classes. Kyuri lounged around on the couch watching me gather my things. "So are you gonna be alright here by yourself?" I wondered stopping to look at her. "I'm going with you silly forget only you will be able to see the real me. Everyone else will see an average attractive human woman." She stated getting off the couch. "Ok, if your sure about this I won't argue." I replied.
"Relax, I'll be just fine it's not like I can't handle myself." She stated. "Never said that you couldn't but, I'm only being careful." I pointed out. "I know you are my dear and I appreciate it. If anyone gives me any trouble they'll get more than they bargained for." She said firmly. "Promise, me you won't use any of your powers. Since they can't be easily explained away like a simple bruise or bloody nose." I informed. "As you wish Orion." She replied. Once that was settled I tossed her some clothes that would help her blend in better.
She asked me what was wrong with her current outfit, so I explained it. Though I had trouble trying not to look down her top but, she changed her clothes without complaint. I apologized for asking her to do so much but, she understood my reasons. She returned from my bedroom wearing the clothes I provided we locked the door and left. Campus was a short fifteen minute walk from my dorm. Kyuri wrapped her arm around my elbow and leaned on my shoulder the entire time.
As we walked towards the buildings a few people stopped and stared at us. Nobody made any comments they simply just watched us walk across campus. During all my classes some of the students would look over at us to make sure they weren't seeing things. Once their curiosity was satisfied they went back to their class work. The afternoon went on, only a few people were curious about Kyuri. She was nice enough to make up a believable excuse. That she and I were life long friends that decide to give dating a try after high school.
Fey the one girl on campus that had the biggest ego in my mind. Didn't like Kyuri getting all the attention so she decided to do something about it. In a quarrel between human and kitsune the fox will win hands down. Since Fey's little scheme ended up backfiring on her at the last possible second. Instead of water being dumped all over Kyuri it ended up soaking her. Not to anyone's real shock, Fey wasn't wearing a bra under her white low cut shirt.
A second later she cussed us out and swore revenge, then stormed down the hall. "I'm guessing one of your enemies or does she have a frog up her tail hole?" Kyuri asked looking at me. "Don't ask that's one woman I never bothered with." I pointed out. "Well, I wouldn't worry about her, she tries anything. She'll see how nasty I can really be." She stated. "Careful, Kyuri, Fey is one person you don't want to get into a fight with. Since her father has a lot of power and legal leeway to throw around." I stated placing my hand on her shoulder.
"Let me guess he's a judge or a politician?" She wondered. "Worse, he's a federal judge that's far worse than the latter." I replied. "Alright I'll do my best to avoid contact with her." She huffed. "Look, I know you're not one to stand idly by but, you're actions no longer reflect just you. They also reflect on me and anyone else we associate with." I informed. "You're right, Orion I'll do my best to avoid any unnecessary problems with, Fey." She said hugging me.
I was grateful that I only had three classes today and one minor headache. Normally I'd complain but, with Kyuri leaning against me the need was nonexistent. She had this calming way about her, it was something really couldn't be explained. There would be a lot I'd learn about her as the days passed. The amount of knowledge she had about her race was head pounding most of the time. Even when she explained it step by step or when she actually showed me.
Luckily she avoided certain subjects of a more adult nature. Since I wanted to wait until we got that far in this odd relationship. Kyuri was understanding of my hesitation on that particular subject. She found it funny considering how red my face got when she started discussing kitsune anatomy. Like the understanding woman she was the dropped the second I asked. The next topic was a bit more interesting, the subject was magic and spell casting
I was glued the entire time she went over it, even to the point I jotted down notes. She wondered if I had any questions which naturally I did and she answered them. When I finally looked over at the clock it was two in the morning. A guilty feeling start to brew inside me the longer I looked at the clock. Kyuri noticed I wasn't paying attention anymore so she looked at where my gaze was. It was then she said we'd pick up in the morning or later on that evening. So I gave her some privacy and went into the bathroom to change out of my clothes.
After a little shuffling we found enough room on my bed for us to sleep on. Kyuri laid on her side then draped her arm and leg across my body snuggling close to me. During the night strange dreams plagued me they showed me two possible paths. One was peaceful and gentle like in a fable in which Kyuri and I settled down, while waiting for the birth of our children. The second dream was horrible nothing but, flaming carnage likes of which mortals have never seen. It actually woke me from my slumber, I laid there trembling heavily.
My heavy breathing woke Kyuri from her pleasant slumber as her eyes opened. She instantly sprang up into a sitting position, placed her hand on my forehead. "So they've begun have they, the visions I spoke of?" She said laying back down. "Yes, what should I do?" I asked unsure of myself. "They're random it's hard to decipher each dream you have." She pointed out. "Not sure if I should be comforted or concerned with that bit of info." I replied.
"I'm sorry Orion." She said fattening her ears. "Its ok I don't really remember the dream I had anyway. Though I'm sure that'll change over time." I stated placing her hand in mine. That seemed to lift her spirits some knowing that I understood. After a few minutes we settled back down and went back to sleep. For the next six hours I wasn't plagued by that dream or another. When finally awoke I looked over to where she was sleeping, only to find out she wasn't there.
As I looked around the room then I heard the shower going, so I knew she was inside. Yet some where inside my mind I was curious to see her bathing but, I restrained myself. Until the door opened a moment later and she stepped into the door. "Oh, good you're awake I drew you a nice warm bath. So come on get up and out of those clothes and into the tub mister." She smiled walking over to me. Grabbing me by my elbow and lifting me right out of bed with little effort. I was amazed by her strength as she hauled me out of bed.
"Sheesh, Kyuri where were you hiding this strength?" I asked giving her body a once over. "See this tail right here, it grants me the ability to lift and move things two to five times my natural body weight." She pointed wagging one tail on the left. "Remind, me never to really upset you, knowing that you can literally pound me into paste." I replied. "Like I'd ever raise my hand to hurt you." She stated. "I know but, nobody is perfect and mistakes are bound to happen." I said logically.
"Come on it's bath time my love." She replied tugging me into the bathroom. With a flick of one of her nine tails the bathroom door was closed. "Umm? Could I have some privacy please?" I asked blushing a little. "Orion, there's nothing you have that I haven't snuck a peek at." She smiled. "When did you do that and why?" I wondered looking her dead in the eye. This strange little smirk came to her muzzle at that moment I had walk right into her joke.
"*Chuckles* Orion, there's plenty of time to view each other naked. Right now you need a bath and a nice hot meal. So get your cute butt in the tub, while I go into the kitchen and cook you something." She instructed walking towards the door. Once she left I did as she told me, undressed and stepped into the warm bath water. Thirty minutes later I got dressed and made my way out to the kitchen. Where Kyuri would be waiting with a hot meal for me.
When I got there she wasn't anywhere to found without warning my hand began burning. A small flash got my attention so I closed my eyes and started to see glimpses. Of what Kyuri was seeing at the current time so I grabbed my keys and ran after her. Something was wrong there was panic in that vision. The second I stepped into the sunlight an unnatural blinding light hit my eyes. At the same time I could tell Kyuri and I were not alone, the presence wasn't friendly.
"Well, isn't this a surprise your pet has come to rescue you. Allow me to end your existence with as much pain inhumanly possible." The voice said flatly. "What's going on here, who are you and what do you want?" I shouted as the light faded. "ORION, JUST RUN AWAY, PLEASE!" Kyuri pleaded while trying to get free. Something in my heart told me to stand my ground and fight.
To be Continued.
