Chapter 6: Finding
Spyro awoke on top of a bed. He was inside of a metallic structure. He got worried. Have we been captured by Fangs forces and taken back to that temple? His thoughts were calmed when he saw Lt. Wagner and Ignitus walk into the room. Wagner walked over to Spyro.
"Spyro can you hear us?" The officer asked.
Spyro nodded his head. He opened his mouth to ask how Cynder was, but only air came out.
"Spyro you need to save your strength. You used a lot of it yesterday." Ignitus said. Spyro gave him a worried look.
"Don't worry. Cynder's fine." With that they both left the room.
Lt. Wagner and Ignitus walked down the halls. They were on board the UERNF destroyer Archilles. The truth was Cynder wasn't looking that good. Neither was Spyro. Spyro had a broken fore-leg, a cracked rib; several pulled tendons and bruised muscles. He also had a lot of bleeding coming from a wound on his back. Cynder had internal bleeding, two cracked ribs, a severely bruised wing, heavily bruised neck (from the strangling) and a broken hind leg. If they hadn't found them when they did, who knows how severe their injuries would have been.
They walked into the emergency room where they had Cynder. The doctors said that there might be a chance of saving her, but with the amount of time that she had been bleeding, that chance could have slipped by now. They walked in to the emergency room. One of the doctors spotted them and motioned them over.
"So how is she doctor?" Wagner asked.
"Well we managed to stop the internal bleeding. She's in recovery right now. She's also in a lot of pain right now."
"So she is going to be fine?"
"As far as we can tell she is going to be fine." Both Ignitus and Wagner left the Achilles and flew back to the temple. Once there Wagner had a word with Alpha Company. Alpha Company, along with D, and F companies, were ordered to secure a temple where recon 471 had spotted a lot of ape activity at.
_________( a few hours later)____________
After the debriefing and the subsequent planning of the mission, A, D, and F companies were deployed via Nighthawks several hundred yards from the temple.
Lt. Wagner was standing in the mushroom brush. He glanced at his watch. It was 9:15 AM. The armored column was a minute late. In order to keep the element of surprise, instead of airlifting the tanks, they were driven by ground the target structure. They were supposed to by there a minute ago. Wagner heard a sound. He turned his head and saw the lumbering Jaguar 7887 MBT rolling down the path. The column consisted of three MBTs (Main Battle Tank) and two UERMC jeeps. The column rolled down to the attack position.
Lt. Wagner used had signals to get the men into position. He took a peer through and saw at least seven apes hanging outside the entrance to the temple. This one was not nearly as big as the last, but he wanted to make sure they captured the temple. He glanced at his watch again. It was 9:16. He watched it until it turned 9:17. He then waved to his men who opened fire onto the seven apes hanging outside of the temple. They were cut down in a mater of seconds. Several ape commanders as well as regulars poured outside of the complex. The armored column lurched as the 80mm rounds left the barrels and impacted the oncoming force. The apes simply ceased to exist. When the smoke cleared Wagner motioned the strike teams forward. He nodded to Lt. Buckman, the leader of the strike teams. Lt. Wagner motioned to his men to set up defensive positions to make sure nothing got in behind them.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Lt. Buckman ordered his men trough. They cleared out the hallways quickly with their shotguns, M74Ds, and SMGs. He looked for anymore enemy contacts before moving on. The central team moved into a room with a door that lead into a very cavernous room. In it there were gems, crystals, and other artifacts inside. He motioned his team forward and they saw several apes trying to move dark crystals from their racks. They were putting them on boards to carry back to their camp.
Lt. Buckman nodded to his sub-ordinate, Sgt. Heaverson. Loud crackle sounds echoed through the room as they fired their assault rifles. Many of the apes fell quickly. One ape however, was wearing special dark armor. The rounds simply pinged off of it as the lumbering ape picked up a large sword and walked over to the strike team. He slung. Some of the marines managed to get out of the way but some didn't. They were flung against the walls and the large ape prepared for another strike. Lt. Buckman picked up a frag grenade and tossed it under the large ape.
"Grenade!" He called out right before it blew. Although his forward sections were armored by the shadow armor, he had no lower protection. The blast sent him into the air and he fell back to the ground dead.
Lt. Wagner stood outside of the structure watching the road. He saw movement and his heart sank as he saw several Lakador infantry advance on their position. They both spotted each other and opened fire. The marines fired from pre-made positions, which put the Lakadors at a disadvantage. Even so, the Lakadors held their footing and continued to fire on their position. Many marines fell during the first few seconds of the engagement.
Loud CRACKS were made as the tanks opened fire and blew the Lakador formation apart. Wagner's heart really sank when he saw what turned the corner. A large vehicle with a very, big gun rounded the corner. It had some sort of anti-gravity device that held it above the ground. Wagner saw a bright light began to glow from a large gun on the roof of the vehicle. A large beam of energy flew from it and hit the lead Jaguar. The tank blew into several pieces of metal as the large energy beam plowed through its several inches of armor plating. The other two tanks answered this new threat with two of their own 80 mm slugs. One hit the enemy vehicle. A hole appeared where the round struck and the vehicle blew its top as the round detonated inside. A large purplish orange cloud blossomed form the vehicle. It fell to the ground and the marines cheered as they killed the stragglers.
Karson woke up in the cave. He walked outside and found some berries. He quickly ate them and took a look around for any Lakadors. When he made sure the coast was clear he moved up, trying to find out where the UERMC base was. He had no idea where to start looking. He felt something strange though. His hand felt warm. He pressed it and it indeed was hot. He had no idea why though. He felt his fore-head. He felt normal. He dismissed it as high blood content in his hand and moved onward.
Spyro awoke and looked around. He saw Allison in the corner. She saw him and gave him a smile.
"Where am I?" Spyro asked her.
"You are onboard the UERNF destroyer Archilles. We are about five hundred feet above the dragon temple. You are in the medical wing. After all that action that happened yesterday you should be asleep."
"I feel fine." With that he got off the bed and limped over to Allison. He noticed he had a bandage over his fore-leg.
"You should be resting right now Spyro." He gave her a concerned look.
"How's Cynder?" He asked with the up most care in his voice. Allison sighed and walked over to the hall and peered outside the room.
"Well, I guess I'll give it to you straight. She had internal bleeding and several bruised and broken bones. We were lucky to catch you guys as soon as we did." The color drained from Spyro's face as he heard the seriousness of Cynder's condition.
"I have to see her." Allison was about to interject saying that he should rest some more when she realized that their relationship was deeper than she thought. She nodded and led Spyro into the hall where they walked a bit before coming into the recovery room. Spyro saw Cynder lying on the bed with bandages on her body. He saw marks where the ape had grabbed her by the neck. She was a mess. But she was his mess.
Cynder heard movement and opened her eyes. She saw Spyro standing in front of her along with Allison. Cynder smiled.
"Feeling better Cynder?" Spyro asked.
"Oh, I will always feel good when I see you."
Spyro walked up to her and gave her a kiss on the cheek. Unable to really move around she smiled at him. Allison stood there watching them. She sighed and thought of Karson. Oh how she missed him. She wished that he was in her arms right now, hugging her. She pictured him in the hospital recovering instead of dying in the battle of Alpagee. She felt a pang of sorrow as she thought of him.
Cynder moved out of bed and both Spyro and Allison were holding her so she didn't get to hurt trying to get up.
"You two shouldn't be up. Spyro you've got a lot of muscle damage and Cynder's got two cracked ribs. It's amazing you two are on your feet." They both simply looked at each other and smiled. Spyro and Cynder sat there looking into each others eyes. They were in a trance-like state. They then locked into a long and passionate kiss. They sat there enjoying each other's love. Allison smiled at them. She felt a pang of regret that she never got to do that with Karson.
Spyro and Cynder finally broke the kiss and looked at each other. They heard sniffling behind them and turned to see a very sad looking Allison. They then remembered Karson, her best friend, being killed at the battle of Alpagee. They looked at each other and sighed. Allison looked at them and realized why they stopped.
"Oh don't worry about me. You two enjoy yourselves."
"We don't want you to feel bad." Cynder said.
"Oh you're not making me sad." With that she walked into the hallway and cried a bit more.
"Oh I feel horrible about Allison." Cynder said with worry in her voice.
"Well, what can we do? I mean he did die after all. I don't know what we can really do to help her." He looked at the floor thinking hard. They had to find a way to cheer her up. It would be easier if Karson was alive so they could find him. Even if he was alive, from what Wagner had said, Karson is on another planet in a different system. And the only operational UER worm-hole generator was damaged and wouldn't be able to execute a jump for some time. Spyro sighed and then thought about the foot prints in the dirt they had seen yesterday. They did never find a body, and the ship had come from the sky, meaning from a Lakador ship which came from the same system.
Allison sat in the hallway. She was deep in thought about Karson. She was thinking about all the times they had spent together. For some reason her thoughts went to the lone marine standing in the path she saw earlier. She sighed and got up. She was joined in the hallway by both Spyro and Cynder.
"We are going to go back to the temple." Spyro said with a grin.
"Alright what are you two up to?" Allison asked masking her tears.
"Well..." Spyro looked at Cynder for advice and she nodded knowing what he was thinking.
"Well... yesterday... we found a crashed Lakador drop ship. We found human tracks coming from it. We followed them, but... we never found who it was." Allison looked at them and realized something.
"Wait. Yesterday I saw a lone marine standing in the middle of four dead Lakadors. He looked oddly familiar." It was then that an idea popped into her head.
"Where was the last time you saw him or where was he going?" Cynder asked Allison who thought hard.
"I saw him start to go towards the river."
"Wait, do you think that he might have gone to the cave we were in?"
"Maybe. We have to go check it out."
Karson had been walking for an eternity. He had seen several Lakador patrols and a huge vehicle he took to be their tank. He hid in the shadows and emerged attempting to flee once more. He had been walking for a good hour or two but still had no clue where the UERMC base was. He heard gunfire in the background. He thought about following it but saw no need as he saw several Lakadors going to that position.
After much walking he came across the river and seeing no Lakadors, decided to take a sip. He drank a lot of water and managed to find some berries which he ate. He found the same cave he was in earlier and decided to take a break. He sat down and let his mind rest. He heard movement outside of the cave and opened his eyes. He saw several Lakadors emerge from the mushroom and walked down the river. He hid behind a rock and waited for them to pass before getting back up.
His hand felt warm again. He looked at it and saw small things of steam coming from it. He was alarmed. The warmth went away but he had no explanation for it. He laid his head down for a rest.
Karson lay in a deep sleep. He then got up. But there was nothing everything was pitch black. He heard a voice. It sounded familiar. It was a women's voice. It was the same one from before.
"Your powers lay dormant in you. You need to awaken them along with those of the others to banish the enemy at hand."
"Powers? What powers? And who are the others? You aren't answering me!" Karson was beginning to get annoyed with the voice but it paid him no mind. Instead, he heard snickering and a strange language. He felt himself waking up.
Karson awoke and found two Lakadors hovering over him. They reached out to grab him and Karson acted first. He pounced on the lead Lakador who fell on the ground with Karson on top of him. Karson proceeded to hitting the Lakador in the face repeatedly. The Lakador managed to push his arm away and the second one grabbed Karson and threw him to the back of the cave. He got back up and the other Lakador hit him in the stomach. Karson doubled over and one of his attackers pushed him on his back. The other grabbed one of his arms. Karson kicked the second Lakador and he fell to the ground. The second one punched Karson in the face. Karson immediately returned a punch to the stomach. He saw the Lakador fall over and Karson spotted the creature's pistol. He grabbed it and fired three shots into the Lakadors chest. He then promptly shot the other in the head.
To lower suspicion, Spyro and Cynder carried Allison to the cave. When they landed they did so in the brush as to avoid the two Lakadors they saw running along the river. Allison drew her pistol and cautiously walked towards a clearing in the path.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Karson had to leave. Undoubtedly the Lakadors knew where he was now and more would follow. He left the cave and heard movement in the brush. He placed his back up against a mushroom. He waited till he confirmed someone in the brush before ambushing them. He heard slow footsteps coming towards him. He quickly shot is body out to meet this new threat with his pistol aimed outwards. What he saw made him drop his pistol in astonishment. The person on the business end of his pistol did the exact same.
"K-Karson?!"
"A-a-Allison?!" They both stared at each other before they both ran up to each other and gave each other a hug. They were both in tears.
"Oh Karson. I thought you were dead! Where have you been?!"
"That is a very long story. Right now I need to sit down." He looked over Allison's shoulder and saw Spyro and Cynder. Instead of being alarmed (he has never met them or any other dragon for that matter) he felt strange. He felt he could trust them. He nodded to them and they smiled back. He looked at Allison and then she really noticed the extent of his injuries.
"Karson your hurt. You need medical attention."
"No really I am fine." He wasn't. For the past day he had been running on adrenaline, but all that exhaustion and pain from pulled tendons, broken bones, bruised body parts, and cuts caught up with him.
Karson fainted.
End of chapter 6
Finally they are reunited. Spyro and Cynder are on the road to recovery and the Lakadors continue to pursue Karson. And what's with these powers, and others referred to by the dream. Guess you'll have to find out when I release chapter 7!
Sorry if this isn't my best chapter but its really late and I am not used to running with minimal sleep. Well, tell me if there are any problems or just outright crappy events that could have been better. (Cause they probably could have been
