RaP - Part 4
Forgiven or Forgotten?
(Jason's POV)
Something hit my head like a wrecking ball and I was sent to the field. That's all I remember until this point right now. I am in the locker room now where we were before the game and during halftime. Wait a minute... who were we even playing? I don't even remember the score at this point to be completely honest, all I know is that we had a football game tonight and my head was swimming. Coach Gerard had escorted me off the field and into the locker room where he sat me down on the bench in the middle of the room and kneeled down in front of me.
"What's your name?" he asked me quite seriously, I thought he was kidding for a second. "Jason" I responded. "Good, now where are we?" he asked. "A locker room" I said resulting in a chuckle from him. "No, what school" he said grinning. I hesitated, I honestly didn't know what school we were at, "I'm, uh, not sure" I said. His expression changed to that of concern now as the stallion went over and retrieved a flashlight from the medical bag by the lockers. "Just hold still alright?" he said, I nodded. Coach Gerard was my favorite coach, he had a strict hand hen needed but really cared about the players and was an incredibly caring guy outside of football.
He shone the flashlight into my eyes and looked into them checking to see if my pupils would react to the light. This was a sure way to check for a concussion I had learned from taking sports medicine junior year. He set the flashlight on the ground and held up a hooved finger "follow my finger" he said as he moved his hand from side to side. I watched it go back and forth resulting in a nod of approval from him. The door to the room opened emitting my parents who had come in with concern plastered all over my mother's face.
"How is he coach?" she asked, you could tell whenever I had been pretty much drug off the field she would be worried. "He's fine he couldn't remember we are at Tuscola though, but nothing really life threatening or brain threatening" he said, I breathed a sigh of relief. At least now I knew we were at Tuscola. "I would take him to the hospital just to be on the safe side" he said to both of my parents who gave nods of approval. I slowly took of my uniform and pads until I was left with only my black under-armour shirt and my football shorts on.
My dad helped me stand up but by now everything had cleared up a lot more. As I was leaving coach Gerard patted me on the back, "hell of a catch out there" he said. Wait I caught a ball?
My parents had led the way to the car and I stepped in the back, honestly I thought we were making too big a deal out of this. I watched the street lights running along the side of the highway as we made our way back home letting my memories slowly come back to me.
I still don't know what hit me only that I had caught a ball and Parker had tackled me, I wonder if we ever scored? Oh well, I guess I could always text somebody and ask... shit! I checked my pockets but my phone was nowhere to be found, it was on the bus back in Tuscola along with my duffel bag. I sighed, oh well I'll get it on Monday in the bus lot.
After a good hour of driving we finally pulled into the hospital which was only five minutes from my house, damn did I hate hospitals. I have this thing with needles, I could take things like rabies vaccination and booster shots just fine, but when it comes to drawing blood or IV's I lose it. I have no clue what it is about the feeling of blood coming out of my arm or the needle sitting there for extended periods of time but I nearly pass out or throw up every time it happens, I can't stand it and would take 100 shots before having blood drawn.
We checked in at the front desk of the hospital and spent the typical two hour wait in the waiting room with the small television in the corner playing news too quietly to hear anything. Finally a nurse came out and led me and my parents back into a small room with a bed and two chairs. Again we waited for a while until finally the doctor came in. He was large elk but had two nubs for antlers as furs in his practice are often required to get them filed down for safety precautions, that's all a patient getting operated on would need is a huge antler impaling them.
He did all kinds of tests on me and was incredibly kind the whole way through, making sure I had no signs of concussion. He smiled and said cheerfully "everything is looking great Jason, I'm just going to take a little blood to make sure everything inside is fine and you can go home!" Sigh, fuck me.
(Switch to Robert's POV)
Everyone was on cloud nine for scoring a touchdown and breaking Tuscola's shutout streak except for me. I had asked coach Gerard what happened with Jason and he said he was fine and went to the hospital for an expert's opinion. Now we were on the bus headed for home once again. I had taken a seat further back than normal so as not to have to talk with anyone and luckily I had snagged the seat no one else was sitting at thanks to the odd number of players. Gatlin had been driven away in the ambulance near the field for his ankle since he couldn't put any weight on it, meaning we lost two receivers in one night unless either of them were ok.
I was so worried about Jason, I really do love him. I had spent the last two weeks so lost and confused as to how I could be gay and have sex with my best friend. I had always expected Jason to retaliate with the anger and rejection I so deserved for being such an idiot; however all he gave me was understanding and compassion increasing my love for him that much more. Finally after realizing how much I still cared about him when that damn badger cheap-shot him in the back I realized I love him. I honestly came to terms with myself and said to hell with all of my doubts.
I was so sad these past two weeks and I thought it was from making a mistake and having sex with my best friend, now I realized it was because I had lost him as both a friend, and a mate. I couldn't take it anymore, I had to know how he was so I got my phone out and shot him a text that read: "how are you feeling?". After shutting my phone about two seconds afterwards I heard Jason's text tone go off along with the "hmm" of a vibration. I double checked around me to make sure he wasn't here but then saw the duffel on the shelf above my head.
I reached up and grabbed it, it definitely was Jason's duffel. My curiosity got the better of me as I unlocked his screen when I fished his phone out and saw his background was a picture of me and him at the state fair last year. I smiled. I snooped through his messages leaving my most recent unread, if curiosity killed the bear I would be dead at this point. I saw he had one draft saved and I looked through it, I know this is so bad but I would kick myself for it later. His draft was to me which almost made my heart stop, I opened it.
It read: "Rob, we've been through so much together haven't we? Heh I remember all of the good times we had bro just like yesterday. I just wanted to let you know no matter what you will always be my brother and even if you don't me, I love you man. I hope you can let me help you if you need it and I desperately hope we can at least be friends again, love Jason". Jason must not have had the courage or heart to send this just yet. I was now extremely glad that the bus was so incredibly dark as tears were flowing out of my eyes at this point. I knew no matter what I had to get Jason, I had to get my mate back.
(Jason's POV)
After a total of four hours from getting to the hospital I laid my head down on the pillow, it was so wonderful to finally get some rest, my dizziness and headache had long since faded and everything was back to normal now. I quickly fell into another dreamless slumber as my exhaustion got the better of me.
(We're going to Third Person POV for a little bit)
The weekend passed relatively quickly much to every furs despair who had school today as the summer drew to a close. Furs all over the county had spent the weekend rushing to every store that contained school supplies to buy last minute things or get the newest latest apparel for their youngsters. Jason and Robert however had planned ahead and gotten most of their stuff back in July so they had the weekend to do whatever they wished. However they both spent their weekend at home.
Jason rested all weekend trying to make sure he had no further complications with his head as a concussion greatly jeopardized his chances to play sports for the rest of the year, so he spent a comfortable weekend at home. Robert on the other hand wasn't quite as lucky, he spent his weekend at home too miserable to go anywhere. He had worried himself so badly all weekend by Monday morning he was exhausted from lack of sleep and had worried himself to the point he was vomiting about every 10 minutes.
His mom was worried so since he already knew where all of his classes were she thought it best to keep him home for the day. He had little complaint as he went back into his room, he had given his mother Jason's duffel since their parents always went to lunch together on Monday, they were really good friends much like their sons had been. Robert could only hope and pray that when he called Jason later that night that it could all work out. He then fell into the closest thing to a restful sleep someone in his current condition could.

*RING RING RING RING RING*
I groaned as my phone once again destroyed whatever rest I was getting, which wasn't much lately. I had gotten to the point where honestly I was so absolutely spent emotionally I didn't care very much at this point. I just had to keep on going, I sat up and flipped my light on. I blinked a few times before I got up with much reluctance and drug myself to the closet. I browsed through my clothes and found a nice blue and tan button up to go with a pair of jeans. I checked my appearance in the mirrored closet doors and was absolutely horrified at what I saw.
My fur on one side of my head was sticking straight up from where I had been laying on it. I made my way to the bathroom and retrieved the bottle of fur gel and smoothed down my mounds of fur out of place. After I was satisfied with my appearance after world war 3 between my fur and the gel I made my back to my room and got dressed. I examined myself in the mirror and didn't find any blunders so I headed out after bidding my parents a farewell.
When I arrived at school there were furs everywhere, parents bringing the underclassmen to school, juniors and seniors trying to park, and the big sign held by the student government say: "Honk for the falcons!" in which I gave a nice blast of my horn. They smiled and waved as I pulled into the parking lot in my assigned space. Senior year, wow already. I retrieved my backpack from the back seat and headed up our freshly painted senior steps which we would later sign.
By the time I made it to the gym I had already gotten around 50 hugs and "bro" hugs from all of my friends so far and a lot of girls who wanted to be with me since I am apparently the top "jock". If only they knew my preference, they wouldn't be wasting their time, and I really hated the term jock anyway. Jocks used their popularity to their advantage, I was perfectly content just playing sports and being a normal ol' wolf dog. All of the underclassmen had been seated in the gym but the seniors waited outside the gym until the principal told everyone to rise for the senior class of 2012.
It was a lame tradition for the last three years but now I kind of liked it. I sat next to Jacob and Josh when we got to our section. They both played on the same line as me in hockey and we had been incredible friends since middle school. We became known as the triple J threat around the school for the top line. Jacob was a tall slender coyote who was built like a bull, however his body didn't reflect it. Josh was a German Shepard also tall and skinny, he was an incredible soccer player and got a scholarship offer for just that earlier that summer.
We were chatting about summer and the new year when our principal came out to the center court area of the basketball arena and quieted all us down. He welcomed us to the new year and told us some improvements done to the school over the summer. He then handed it over to our senior body president, Kara, an incredibly kind and spirited lioness. She was excited and got everyone riled up as the cheerleaders came out and did the whole "go team!" routine and their little tricks for everybody. All in all it was a fun little pep rally... umm thing I guess you could call it.
We were then told to head to our first class and start the day. I had looked all over for Robert who was normally easy to see with his size but had not seen him. Something bad must've happened for him to miss the first day. We slowly filed our way out of the gym the best way that 800 furs could at once and dispersed to our classes. My first one was pre-calculus with Mr. Ezell. I had Mr. Ezell last year and loved him as a teacher, he was really nice and laid back. I went to his room through the wall of what seemed like endless underclassmen with a senior thrown in here and there and walked in.
On the front board was of course assigned seats, most teachers just used them as a way to learn your names. I saw my name in the very back corner, of course. With the last name Taylor I had very little competition when it came to last name in the class but it was whatever. JC, Kyle, and Coleman were also in the class who said hey as I walked by. I went to the back corner and sat down and watched as twenty or so more furs filed in for the first day of the semester. My tail thumped against the chair as I waited, soon every seat except the one in front of me and Robert's were taken, big class.
I looked up at the board and saw Nick Tarnstrom was in front of me. I knew Nick but he wasn't really one of my favorite people in the world. The bell rang and a familiar Golden Retriever appeared at the door. "Sorry guys, accident in the teacher's lounge, coffee grinds and copy paper everywhere" he joked resulting in laughs from the class. "Alright" he said rubbing his paws together "my name is..." the senior counselor opening the door interrupted him mid-sentence.
She told him that Nick had transferred out of the class. She also said that we had a new student joining the class who had enrolled this morning. I just rolled my eyes, probably just some pathetic sap from somewhere who would either turn out to be really nice and have everyone love him or her or turn out to be a complete douche bag. I had my muzzle resting on my paw otherwise my mouth would've probably hit the floor. The strangest dog I had ever seen stepped into the room when our counselor introduced him to Mr. Ezell.
He had similar features to those of a German Shepard but his fur was a russet red color. He had a wheat colored under coat covering his incredibly etched body and he had the biggest smile of his face. I was shocked at how good looking this new guy was actually, I mean he was damn fine. I almost had to slap myself physically to get myself to snap out of it, I barely even know the guy and I'm already drooling over him like some horny douche. Mr. Ezell asked our counselor if Robert had transferred too when he aligned the other empty seat with the board and she shook her head "no he's just really sick today his mother said" she said as she left with a smile.
The new guy looked at the class with a kind looking smile as Mr. Ezell said "this is Bandit Holiday and he's new here from uhh..." Mr. Ezell said as he motioned for some help from Bandit. "Michigan" Bandit said cheerfully. "Yes, Michigan" Mr. Ezell said as if he had known already. He looked over the class and saw Rob's seat and the seat in front of me. "Well" he sighed "why don't you sit in front of Jason back there for today" he said. Shit.
I mean why not put a good looking guy right in front of me? Bandit was smiling as he made his way back towards the seat. He smiled at me as he sat down which I returned as best I could. I had noticed before he sat down that he had two white patches of fur on his forehead which was really weird but I didn't think much of it. I was then forced to sit through the typical hour of what is expected this semester, materials, class procedures, and so on. By the time Mr. Ezell was through he had left six minutes still in class in which he just allowed everybody to share their summer tales with one another.
I was in the corner and no one who really liked me or I liked them back was nearby so I just lay my head back against the wall and relaxed for a bit wondering how Robert was doing. What am I thinking? The guy doesn't want you anymore man, you might as well just... "How's it goin?" a voice interrupted my thoughts as I looked in front of me to see the smiling face of the new guy in front of me. I was startled for a minute before I managed to get out a simple "good you?".
"I'm doing great actually" he said as I felt his tail hitting my leg as he wagged it. "I'm Bandit" he said sticking out a paw which I accepted, "I'm Jason" I replied. "Is your last name Taylor by any chance?" he asked cocking his head to the side curiously. Umm, ok? "Yes" I replied completely confused as to how this guy I barely knew, knew my last name. "So you're the wolf dog that is so good at hockey down here?" he asked, still having that same smile plastered on his face. "I guess so, I mean I just like to play but how did you know about me?" I asked curiously.
"I played hockey all of my life up in Michigan so on the trip down here I read up on the hockey here and remember seeing your name a lot" he said. I was blushing now, I don't know whether from the compliment or talking to such a good looking guy. "Oh well, uhh, thanks" I said. He smiled and said "yeah, it's nice to meet a fellow hybrid too by the way". "You're a hybrid?" I asked resulting in a smile and a nod from Bandit. "My mother is a Dingo and my father's a German Shepard" he said, his tail never stopped wagging as it continued its assault on my leg.
"Cool" I said as the bell rang and everybody got up. "I'll uhh, see you around I guess" I said to him as he nodded and happily strolled off to wherever. He had to be the happiest guy I had met in ages. The next two classes, English 4 and Physics passed by relatively slowly, my mind trailing off to thoughts about Robert, senior year, and Bandit most of the time. By the time lunch came I was starved, they had chicken nuggets today a typical lunchroom favorite amongst most furs in high school. I got a tray and sat down with the typical table of my friends in the corner of the lunchroom we had shared since freshman year.
For the 30 minute period we talked about all kinds of things and laughed about all of our new classes and teachers with the occasional French fry flying across the table every now and again. By the time lunch was over everyone was excited about the last class of the day getting over with. My last class was theatre which I enjoyed greatly. As I headed for the auditorium I saw Bandit walking with the two hottest girls in the senior class who were still single since they had such picky tastes in guys. They were both going gaga but he seemed relatively uninterested as he listened to whatever they had to say.
When he saw me however his eyes lit up and he bid the two disappointed girls a farewell. He came over with that same sweet smile wagging his tail as I said "bro you just had the two best looking girls at this school all over you". He shrugged looking back "really?" and said "ehh, they're not my type" and then asked me "how are your classes so far?".
I rolled my eyes "boring, but hey what can you do?" I said smiling. "Yeah, I know the feeling" he said with a grin. "Say you wouldn't happen to know where Mr. Gerard's room is would you?" he asked. I nodded "by the front office, third door on the right" I said. "Awesome thanks, I'll see you later man" he said as he strolled off. I just smiled and headed for theatre.
Theatre passed quickly as we played improv games most of the time and soon it was time to leave. I headed down to the parking lot and put my backpack in the backseat and retrieved the grocery bag with my football clothes in it. I had no clue where my duffel was as I had checked the bus as I was leaving and it was nowhere to be found. I made my way down to the field house and got changed into just a tank top and shorts since we do no pad conditioning Mondays and Wednesdays. All of my teammates were asking me how I was and what happened, I just told them I was fine and it was no big deal.
I found out that Gatlin's ankle was broken and now we only had three receivers including myself still healthy. I was still chatting with Coleman as coach Gerard came out of his office with Bandit behind him. He shushed the team and introduced Bandit to all of us saying he would be filling in for Gatlin and for us to make him feel welcome. Who knew the guy could play football and look good at the same time, of course Robert made that look easy too.
Bandit smiled as a few of our teammates introduced themselves, then he came over to me and Coleman. "Hey Bandit" I said "I didn't know you played football". He nodded "back in Michigan I loved to play" he said wagging his tail. "Hey man I'm Coleman" Coleman said extending a paw as he was tying his laces on his cleats. "Bandit" Bandit replied accepting the shake. The coach then rounded us up and sent us out to the practice field.
Practice wasn't as life threatening as it was last week as we ran suicides and such all practice. I was surprised at how quick Bandit was as I had watched him run during practice. After practice we all drug ourselves into the locker room after a few hours in the summer heat. I really wanted to just go home but I knew I needed a shower first so I grabbed a bottle of shampoo in my bag and headed in. After the shower I gathered up all of my stuff and left, not many people were left as I made my way out.
As I was headed up to the parking lot a "Hey Jason!" shout stopped me. I looked back and saw Bandit running up to me his fur still slightly damp from the showers in which I may have allowed my eyes to wander over him a couple times. Ok many times but who can blame me? When a guy looks like he did how could you not stare? "Hey man" I responded as he caught up to me. "My car is in the shop right now so my mom had to bring me but she's going to be real late getting things settled at her new job so could you PLEASE take me home?" he pleaded.
I nodded with a grin as his expression turned to happiness and relief and his tail was wagging again. We got to my car and got in as I started it up. He pointed to the direction of my house at the light in which I took. The car was filled with awkward silence for the first minute aside from Bandit's occasional "turn here" directions. Finally he broke it and asked "you got a girl friend?" curiously. I shook my head "no, actually I broke up with my last... relationship two weeks ago" I said I guess you could call it that.
He must've seen right through my hesitation tactic as his eyes sort of lit up and he said "you don't like guys by any chance do you?" I gulped nervously was I really that easy to read? "Uhh" I hesitated but he put a paw on my shoulder and he said "it's ok man I'm actually bi myself" with his typical smile. Luckily we had gotten to his home by now otherwise I would've had to stop the car to prevent having an accident. "Really?" I asked resulting in a nod from him.
"I can almost sense when a guy likes other guys but I may have been wrong with you, was I?" he asked. I shook my head as his smile widened. "I knew it, who knew a stud like you was on the market" he said then laughed at my misfortune as I blushed. Damn he was good. He then put a paw on mine and asked "so umm, would you like to, go out some time? It's ok if this is way too soon" he said timidly.
I was shocked to my core now as he just sat with that same kind smile on his face waiting for my answer. I finally swallowed the lump in my throat and nodded "I would love that" I said, I had been craving some affection lately. His smile spread and his tail went 100 mph as he said "great!" and with a wink got out of the car. "See you tomorrow!" he said as he got out and shut the door leaving me in his driveway and in shock for a few minutes.
I was in a daze by the time I walked into my own house as I had just made a date with an incredible looking guy. I collapsed on my bed to think as my mom came in with my duffel bag in hand and gave it to me "Robert's mom brought that to lunch today" she said returning to the kitchen to work on the amazing smelling dinner. I reached in and fished my phone out as I was about to text Coleman I saw an incoming call with the name "Robert" underneath it.
My heart was racing as I hit the green accept button and timidly lifted it to my ear "hello?" "Hey man" Robert said, he sounded horrible and his voice was quiet and very hoarse "how are you feeling?" he asked. "I should ask you the same thing you sound horrible man" I said. "Yeah, I've had a hard time lately" he said. "Listen I've been thinking a lot lately and I made the absolute dumbest and worst mistake of my life man" he continued as his voice began to crack on the verge of tears.
"I was so confused for the last two weeks but now I realize I want me and you to work above friendship man, I love you Jason" he said as I was left in shock in the following awkward silence. "You still there?" he asked dejected as he must've thought I hung up on him. "Yeah" I choked out. "I was wondering, it's ok if you don't want to forgive me but, uhh, would you like to get back together?"
Shit.
(Disclaimer: Bandit is copyright and the fursona of my very good friend HolidayPup None of Bandit's actions in this series reflect Holiday's, his fursona is simply playing a character that would've been a made up one but Bandit fit the bill quite nicely (and looks damn fine too I must say). However some traits, such as kind, good looking, and always wagging are actual traits of Bandit.
