A Boy and His Lucario Part 19
#19 of A Boy and His Lucario Series
The Grunt slammed the truck door shut with a sigh. He reached into the glove compartment and pulled out a candy bar to munch on.
"We've searched this whole city and no one knows anything about that Ashito character."
"You know, that's probably a good thing." The driver said.
"What do you mean?"
"The less people know about Team Rocket's actions, especially failures, the better off we'll probably be." The other Grunt shrugged and bit his candy bar.
"Whatever. So long as I get paid it makes no difference to me."
"How's the interrogation team?" the driver asked.
"They're all in the back now, probably mad that they didn't actually get to interrogate anyone." He barely had time to finish his sentence before the truck's radio crackled.
"This is Rocket Interrogation Squad 2. We've found something In Violet City. Get down here now."
"Looks like they might get some work after all." The driver mumbled and shifted into drive.
Mountains. Lucario had only seen mountains atMt.Moon, but these mountains madeMt.Moonlook like a little hill. He would get tired from all the vertical ascensions, not knowing what it was really like to travel in the mountains.
"Kyo, do you know where we are?" he asked. Kyo pulled out his map and eyed it carefully.
"We're actually nearMt.Silver. Glad you brought it up Lucario." Kyo put the map back in his bag. "We really need to be on the look out everyone, if we're nearMt.Sliver, we're close. The map won't help us anymore."
"Remember what Sensei said, "John added "They learned architecture from the Japanese, so we need to look for traditional styled buildings." Ashito smiled and wagged his tail.
"I'm getting really excited you guys! I feel like we're so close!" Just then his nose twitched. "Wait a minute..." he began sniffing the air with his strong nose. "I smell smoke."
"Are you serious?" John and Kyo asked simultaneously.
"Yeah, it's strong over there." Ashito pointed north. Lucario darted to the direction Ashito was pointing.
"Come on!" he yelled back. "We're almost there! I can fell it!"
Ashito gasped for breath, his back to the trunk of a large tree. They had been pursuing him for at least a week now. He had to guess he was nearSaffronCityby now. He had traveled by night and secluded himself to the forests and tall grasses during the day, but the Team Rocket hunters were somehow able to keep up with him, sometimes they were there before Ashito would arrive in an area. He was getting tired; a full week of running would tire out anyone, even someone with the enhanced DNA of a dog. The lab shorts he had been wearing were completely torn and worn and would only slow him down. Ashito was a little self conscious running around naked, but it's not like he really came in close contact with anyone.
He calmly walked through the woods, using all his senses to search for the hunters. But when his eyes were searching elsewhere, he heard a loud clamp, followed by immense pain in this ankle. He yelped and fell to the ground. He looked at his foot, which was now caught in a bear trap with a red R on it. Blood streaked out of his ankle on to the rusty old trap, the smell quickly reaching Ashito's nose. He howled in pain as he tried moving, but when he found it to be a worthless task, he whimpered and curled up. 'This is it. They're going to get me. I'm done for.' Ashito began to cry thinking of how doomed he was. He had so much to do before he died. He wanted to see his parents again and to apologize to them for ever consider joining Team Rocket. And his girlfriend. He wanted to tell her one last time that he loved her, but now it wall all impossible; he was going to die. He eventually cried himself to sleep and dreamt of his life before Team Rocket. He remembered being a joyful little boy with loving parents, working his way through school, going to college, meeting a girl, and an overall happy life. But now, he only saw himself as a beast with no hope for a real life.
Ashito awoke the next day, still stuck in the bear trap. He whimpered at the sight of the rusty old teeth. He wiped his tears and tried prying the trap open, but to no avail. It only caused him more pain, making him howl in pain as it had yesterday. It was no use. He curled back up and waited for death to take him. He heard running steps approaching him. 'The hunters' he thought 'it's time.' The steps became louder and louder until someone broke through a line of bushes. Ashito heard the figure gasp and then yelled.
"Guys, I think you're going to want to see this!"
Lucario bolted through the ridged terrain, only stopping to make sure the rest of the crew was somewhat close behind. The others slowly made their way over the obstacles of mountain travel, not as energized as Lucario had suddenly become. Ashito sniffed the air.
"At least he's heading in the right direction." Ashito pointed forward "The smell is getting stronger that way." Kyo stopped to catch his breath.
"Good, maybe we'll actually find them. We've come a long way, and it would be REALLY nice to be able to rest." He said in between breaths. Ninetales giggled and rubbed up against him. Kyo grinned and stroked her silky fur. Celia quietly munched on a candy bar John had given her as she watched Lucario dash around. John patted her on the head, which brought her back to reality.
"He sure is excited, isn't he?" John grinned. Celia blushed and scratched the back of her head.
"Hehe, yeah he is. He just looks so handsome up there, when he'll stop on top of a rock and his spikes shine in the sunlight. I'm so happy for him." John smiled and patted her on the back.
"You've done a really good job of looking out for him, Celia. I'm so happy he was able to find someone like you, someone he can really connect with and want to love."
"But John, you're his trainer! You're able to do all that too!"
"True, but a trainer can only go so far. I love him like a brother, but I certainly can't fulfill all of his needs. Intimacy with others is a desire for all living creatures, even Pokémon, and that's something I would never be able to give him." Celia didn't know what to say. She just smiled looking back to Lucario, jumping from rock to rock. But suddenly, Lucario stopped. He stared with his eyes and mouth wide open.
"Hurry everyone! You have to see this!" the group climbed as quickly as they could up the incline Lucario was standing on, Kyo having to try a second time to get up. Everyone was totally amazed. Traditional styled Japanese buildings lined what looked like streets, just sitting there in the mountains.
"Do you think this is it?" Ashito asked, sniffing the air. Lucario closed his eyes.
"I know it is." With his eyes still closed, Lucario began his descent down the slope and slowly walked toward the village. John put his hand on Lucario's shoulder and smiled.
"You did it buddy, you're home." Lucario looked up at John, shedding a tear. John knelt down and wiped the tear away. "We've come a long way together. From the moment I hatched you, you've been my best friend and made my life the best it's ever been. Now it's my turn to give back to you. Lucario, I give you the Society of Mountain Lucario." Lucario choked up and grabbed John. John put his arms around his friend and held him tenderly.
"Master you've done so much for me! You hatched and raised me, battled with me, took me on a journey, and now you've brought me back to my roots! You don't need to give anything back! You've already made my life perfect!" Lucario held his master tighter, who gave out a little grunt. Lucario realized it was because of the chest spike and he let up a little.
"No Lucario, it's ok." John took off his shirt to reveal a large round scar in the middle of his chest. "I'm used to your spike. How do you think we're always able to hug?"
"But, why, Master?"
"Because I love you." Lucario broke down and grabbed John again, the spike fitting perfectly into John's scar. John wiped the tears from Lucario's face and looked him in the eyes. "Come on; let's go meet your family."
The crew all walked up to what appeared to be the end of a large dirt street, buildings lining it most of the way down. Then, almost as if planned for their arrival, the streets became alive. Out of the buildings and out of the streets and alleys came the inhabitants. Lucario and Riolu alike, all wearing traditional Japanese wear. They all went about their business, each with a smile on their face. The Riolu laughed and skipped with their friends, while the Lucario carried buckets, baskets, and all alike. They stopped to talk with others and trade, while an elderly looking Lucario sat outside his doorstep and played a happy tune on his flute. No one had even noticed that they had visitors standing outside their village until Kyo stepped forward.
"Um... hello?" All the Lucario and Riolu stopped in their tracks and looked to the end of the street. They all stared straight at the strangers, until...
"WELCOME!" they all shouted in unison. The group was then ambushed by a happy group of Riolu, pulling each individual into the village. The villagers cheered and the elderly Lucario began playing a lively tune on his flute, and the villagers began to dance. Ashito immediately joined in with the dancers, happiest he had been in a long time.
"This is fantastic!" he shouted "these Pokémon really know how to greet someone!" Lucario, Celia, and Ninetales all joined in the dance as well, happily skipping with the newfound village Pokémon. Kyo and John just stood in utter belief, watching everyone dance to the elder's music. A Lucario in a black kimono and carrying what looked to be a katana came running.
"Hey, what's going on?" he asked another Lucario.
"Look! We have visitors!" he pointed into the dancing crowd.
"Visitors? What are you talking about? No one knows about the Society of Mountain Luca-" He saw them. He was shocked, no words to speak. The other Lucario smiled and put his hand on the other's shoulder.
"See? What did I tell you? Now come one, join us! I know you're a soldier, but hey, you need to have fun too, right?" The black kimonoed soldier backed up slowly, not taking his eye off the dancing crowd.
"I must inform the council!" the soldier ran down the streets, past many buildings, gardens, villagers and alike. Finally he came to a large open plaza which harbored a bazaar. He ran through, ignoring the peddlers trying to sell their days worth. He ran clear of the bazaar to a large flight of stairs, which lead to a tall white pagoda with marvelous blue tiles on the roof segments. He entered and began running up the many staircases inside. When he finally reached the top, be stepped into the center of the room and kneeled. Sitting before him were seven Lucario, all wearing vibrantly colored kimonos. Each had their own throne, but there was any empty one which sat on the farthest right side of the line up. "My lords, outsiders have entered the Society of Mountain Lucario." The soldier informed the seated Lucario.
"Outsiders?" Questioned the red kimonoed Lucario on the center throne. "That's impossible. No outsider has entered the Society for decades."
"Not only that," the female, pink kimonoed Lucario in another throne added "But no one that ever knew of the Society could possibly still be alive. Anyone who knew had to have been wiped out with the others years ago."
"That may not be entirely true." Spoke the purple kimonoed Lucario. "Remember, our late master Hosokawa had a brother who did not stay with the Society. Perhaps it is possible he still lives?"
"It's possible," said the yellow kimonoed Lucario "But highly unlikely. He was older than our master. Even if he did survive any attacks, it could be assumed he must have passed from old age by know."
"Perhaps he is still alive?" The green kimonoed Lucario added. "Maybe he has sent travelers here? Maybe he's with them as we speak? Perhaps we-"
"Whatever the case is, we must not allow them to leave." Interrupted the brown kimonoed Lucario. "As the leaders of the Society, it is our duty to ensure the safety of our citizens. They must be contained!"
"Have you gone mad?!" The purple questioned. "They may just be lost for all we know!"
"Or maybe they've come to attack once again!" The red shouted. Spontaneously, the colored Lucario shouted at one another, arguing theories as to the nature of the visitors. Finally, the last Lucario, dressed in orange and seated farthest on the right, next to the empty throne, stood.
"That's enough!" he shouted. The others became silent. "Listen to yourselves, bickering about something we know nothing of! As the leaders of the Society of Mountain Lucario, it is not our job to sit and argue with one another, but to lead our people! And who knows, maybe these visitors pose a threat, or maybe they are simply passing by. The point is we need to find out for ourselves." The orange kimonoed Lucario stepped down from his throne. "I will go with the soldier and meet these people. When I learn of the nature of their visit, I will bring them here." And without another word, the orange stepped down from his throne and worked his way down the stairs, the soldier following close behind.
