LONELY HEARTS RANCH

---Part One: Buzz and Jake---

*BZZZZZZT*

Rupert groaned and felt around his bedside table for his cell phone. He saw that his digital clock read 6:15 AM. Christ, who was calling him this early?

*BZZZZZZT*

"Yeah, yeah, hold yer damn horses," he said, yawning widely. He flipped his phone open and brought it to his ear.

"H'lo? Whossis," he mumbled.

"Rupert! This is your manager, Mr. Crowley. I've got great news for you!"

"Whassat? News?" He grimaced as his manager used his real name. He knew he had to, for professional reasons, but Rupert hated his name. He always went by Buzz. It just fit him better, he thought.

"Quite! You won the inter-office lottery for a trip to the famous Lonely Hearts Ranch in Nevada!"

"Hm? I don't remember entering any lottery...and I've sure never heard of that ranch."

"Well, I entered everyone in the company into the lottery, and you won! It's a two week paid vacation, and it starts today! I sent an attendant over with your plane tickets and admission pass, he should be arriving any minute now. Your plane leaves at 8:30, so I suggest you get packing!" And then he hung up.

"Fuck. A prepaid trip to some ranch in the middle of buttfuck nowhere for two weeks. Eh, at least I get paid for it." He groaned as he climbed out of bed. He also saw that he had a voicemail on his phone. He clicked the play button and was astounded to hear Hank's voice coming from his machine.

"Uhm, hey Buzz. I know I told you I'd be up for getting together tonight, but uhh...I met a really nice guy at the club the other night and we made some plans...sorry dude, maybe I can bring him by your place sometime and we can all hang out. Gimme a call, you've got my number. And tell Tom I said hi." *BEEP*

He moaned and slammed his fist on the bedside table. Shit. He had really liked Hank, and was hoping that he would be able to get something going with him. Rupert was 28, and not getting any younger, that was for sure. He put a black T on over his black shaggy fur and brushed the hair away from his dark brown eyes. He wasn't bad looking, he thought, standing at five eleven, and pretty muscular at that. He couldn't understand why his boyfriends always ditched him. He had gone through five semi-serious relationships within the last year alone. He wanted someone secure, someone he could trust, someone he could stay with for a long time. Maybe even for life.

Buzz worked at an accounting firm called Number Crunchers. His job paid quite well for how easy it was, and he liked everyone there well enough. He was a writer in his off time, slowly but surely writing a book that he hoped to have published one day.

Tom was Buzz's straight roommate, a well-off leopard who was living half here, and half with his fiancé Maya. They made a great couple, and Buzz was happy for them. Tom and Buzz had been best friends since elementary school, and Tom was the only person that stood by Buzz when he came out during high school. Tom's father was the CEO of YellowScreen Inc., a very famous software company. Tom was the head of the Human Resources department, and he pulled down about 120k a year. He told Buzz that he'd cover the rent on the apartment as long as Buzz needed him to. Buzz told him that his generosity wasn't necessary, but Tom insisted.

"After all," he had said on numerous occasions, "If it wasn't for you, Maya and I would never have met!"

This was mostly true. Well, entirely true. When Maya and Buzz first met, she had just been mugged. He found her lying in an alleyway and had carried her back to his apartment, calling the police first. Tom had come into the apartment as Buzz was laying Maya down on the couch. Tom had gone with her to the police station and held her hand as she explained the situation to the police. In the meantime, Buzz had stood outside and talked to the officers about where and when he had found her. They commended him and thanked him for being such a Good Samaritan. Neither Tom nor Maya had let Buzz forget that day, no matter how much he wanted to. Nothing made him any sadder than to see a happy couple when he wasn't a part of one himself. And that was the way it always seemed to work. His summers were often plagued with weddings of friends and relatives. He often wondered if he would ever have one of his own. He always acted tough, but he was really an incurable romantic.

The bell rang as he finished tossing clothes haphazardly into his suitcase. He answered it and a smartly-dressed attendant handed him an envelope with his name on it.

"Have a good time," he said, and closed the door in Buzz's face. Buzz grabbed his suitcase, cell phone, and mp3 player, and headed out the door. He got to the airport right on time, and there were no problems with his luggage. He saw Jake, one of his older boyfriends, waiting for a flight in the lobby. He was an orange husky, a bit shorter than Buzz, standing at five foot four. His orange and white fur contrasted amazingly with his turquoise polo shirt and khaki pants. Buzz waved to him, looking puzzled.

"Hey Jake, what are you doing here?"

Jake's jaw dropped. "Buzz! I can't believe it, it's been years!" He leapt up and embraced him.

"I see you haven't changed a bit," the lab said to the husky.

"Neither have you," Jake replied, "So, what are you doing here?"

"I won some stupid office lottery, and got sent to some dude ranch out in Nevada. It's a paid vacation, and I figure two weeks of relaxing couldn't do me any harm. What about you?"

"Well, it's kind of a long story," Jake replied, avoiding Buzz's eyes.

"Well," Buzz asked, looking worried, "What seat do you have? Maybe we can talk on the flight." And it turned out that Jake's seat was right next to Buzz. Jake told Buzz on the plane all about his life over the last few years, all the men that had come and gone (and a few women too). He was going to Nevada to start fresh after his last relationship ended almost violently.

"That's just awful," Buzz said when Jake had finished telling him how bad his last relationship had been.

"Yeah. He's in jail now, but who knows when he could get out, and I'm just afraid he'd come looking for me. One of my aunts runs a casino in Vegas and she offered me a job, so that's where I'm headed."

"Well, that's good. I hope that all works out for you."

"I'm sure it will. So, what's the name of this ranch they're sending you to?"

Buzz couldn't quite remember. He grabbed the brochure from his bag and read the name.

"Lonely Hearts Ranch...a place for hearts to heal? The hell? It sounds like a therapy center!"

"Uhm, Buzz," said Jake, laughing, "That's umm...that's a couples ranch. A DATING ranch."

"Oh for the love of god...really?" he thumbed through the rest of the brochure and all he saw was pictures of happy straight couples and their stories of how they had met at the ranch. "Fuck...you've gotta be kidding me!"

Jake was openly laughing in the seat next to him. "Looks like it's your kinda place, Buzzy! Hey maybe you'll find yourself a nice girl!"

"Stuff it, Jake, this isn't funny," he growled. Jake looked away, dejected.

"Look, I'm sorry. I just...it really gets me sometimes, you know? I...I need someone, Jake. Someone like you."

"Listen, Buzz, about us-"

"I know what happened, Jake. I know what she did, and I know you had every reason to leave. I'm past that. What I'm NOT past is the fact that I haven't had a relationship in the past five years that's lasted any longer than ours. What I'm NOT past is that Hank called me this morning and broke our date for tonight. What I am NOT OK WITH is the fact that I'm 28 FUCKING years old and nobody has ever said that they love me!" He was almost shouting by the end, and most of the people on the plane were staring at him.

"Buzz...I'm sorry," Jake said. His eyes were brimming with tears.

"It...it's not your fault, J. I miss us, and just seeing you, it's brought back a lot of memories...good and bad."

"Buzz...I miss you too. Sometimes I wish things had happened differently between us. Sometimes I wish that two-timing bitch had never come into the picture. Sometimes I wish I had told you I love you...but it didn't happen. And one thing I've learned, Buzz, is that wishing the past would change never works. What is, is, and there isn't much we can do about what has already been done. We've just gotta make do, you know?"

"Yeah, J, I know...but it's hard sometimes. Seeing all my friends hook up and move away, and most of my family too...it's just...I wish that I had someone I could rely on, someone to call my own, you know?"

"I know what you mean Buzz...I know there's nothing I can say that will ease the pain of what you've gone through...and it seems at times that all you can do is hold on to the hope that it will get better."

"I guess you're right, J. But the hope just gets harder and harder to hang on to every day."

"But if you let go, then there's nothing left, Buzz. You have to hang on, and someday, maybe even some day soon, you'll get what you hope for."

"You're right, J. Thanks, you always were good at cheering me up." Jake leaned over and kissed Buzz on the cheek.

"Jake..." Buzz looked at him, barely keeping himself from crying. It all came back to him in a rush...everything they had done, all that they had shared; how much he loved him. He had to excuse himself to the bathroom to make sure he didn't make another scene. He sat down on the toilet, buried his face in his hands and cried. He wept his heart out until he heard someone knocking on the bathroom door.

He wiped his eyes and said in a shaky voice, "B-be right out, gimme a second." He got up and pretended to be finishing actually using the facilities, but his fur was still streaked with lines from his tears. He walked back to his seat just as the captain spoke over the intercom.

"Folks, we're starting our descent to Las Vegas Airport, so please return your tray tables to their upright and locked positions and fasten your seat belts."

Buzz was able to avoid Jake's eyes for the rest of the flight, pretending that he was airsick. He continued to avoid direct eye contact even as they went about the awkward business of unloading their luggage from the overhead and extracting themselves from the noisy throng of passengers. He heard Jake call out to him as he hurried to the luggage carousel. Jake finally caught up with him as he was looking for his bag.

"Buzz! What the hell has gotten into you?"

"Drop it, Jake. Just leave me alone, it's nothing you need to worry about."

"That may be true, Buzz, but I DO worry. I've been worrying about you for the last five years, I'm not about to stop now."

"Well, Jake, I'd love to tell you, but I don't think either of us have the time."

"Bullshit, Buzz," Jake said in a stern voice. Buzz looked at him. He had only heard him use that tone of voice once while they were dating, and it meant that he wasn't fucking around. He continued, "I know you. I know you have something you need to say to me. That ranch doesn't open until tomorrow evening, and I'm here for a week waiting for my other stuff to arrive. We've got plenty of time. Come with me to the hotel. It's a two-bed room, so it won't be awkward or anything. But we NEED to talk, Buzz."

He sighed. There was no point arguing with Jake when he got like this.

"Alright, J, you win." He followed Jake outside to the limo he had waiting.

"Christ, J, your aunt must be loaded!"

"She DOES run a casino, Buzz. It's not exactly a second-rate place, either." The limo took them to a hotel called "Le Grande Suites."

"Sounds French," commented Buzz.

"It is. It means 'The Great Rooms' or something like that. It's normally about $300 a night, but my aunt owns this place, too. Got a top floor room with a balcony and a Jacuzzi, too."

"Shit, man, that's nice. I had forgotten that I needed a place to stay tonight. Probably woulda ended up at a motel 6 or something."

"No problem, Buzz." He looked at Buzz again as they got into the elevator. Buzz caught his eye and quickly looked away. Jake merely grinned.

"Don't make me do it, Buzz."

"Do what?"

"Don't make me fall in love with you again." Buzz's eyes snapped straight to his.

"You mean..."

"I do. I loved you more than anyone else in the entire world, Buzz. You were all that mattered to me. It broke my heart just as much as yours when I had to leave. I've been thinking about you these last 5 years, Buzz, and it all came back to me when I saw you today. What we did...and how we loved each other so much." He leaned in and kissed Buzz right on the lips. Buzz returned the kiss eagerly, hungrily grabbing Jake's arms, pulling him closer.

*DING!* The elevator had reached their floor. They were just breaking the kiss as the doors opened. Luckily, nobody had been waiting for it to arrive. They walked in silence to Jake's reserved room. They both sat down on the edge of one of the beds and started talking. Buzz told Jake everything that had happened to him over the last five years: how he had nearly committed suicide after Jake had left, all of his failed relationships, and everything about Tom and Maya. They were both in tears by the end.

"That's so awful, Buzz, I had no idea what I did to you!"

"It wasn't your fault, Jake, you know that. It was Julie's fault, and that two-timing bitch got what was coming to her."

"That's true." Neither of them knew what to say after this. They just stared at each other for a while.

"Uhm, do you want a drink," asked Jake.

"Sure, is there a mini-bar?"

"I was actually going to call room service. It's free anyway so I figure we might as well take advantage of it."

"Sure, that sounds great. Maybe a bottle of wine?"

"Let me guess...Chardonnay?"

"I can't believe you remembered that for five years."

"Neither can I. What do you want to eat?"

"Maybe some chicken or fish. I am pretty hungry, that airplane food is never enough to be a meal."

"Yeah, I hear you on that." He dialed room service and ordered a bottle of wine and a plate of chicken parmesan pasta.

"Mmm, that sounds delicious," Buzz said after Jake hung up the phone.

"Don't you remember, Buzz? This is what we ordered on our first date, 5 years ago. In fact," he said, checking his watch, "It was five years ago today. Around this time, too."

"Well, that's a coincidence that I can't leave to chance, J. I don't believe in fate, but the fact that we're here on what would have been our five year anniversary...I think it means something."

"What do you mean, Buzz?"

"Jake...I love you. And I always will. You made me feel like I was something more than just an accountant. You gave me the spark of inspiration I needed to start writing. You made me feel like I was loved, like...like I had a reason to live!"

"Buzz, I...I love you. But us...we...we can't be together anymore, not after what happened, you know that..."

"I know, Jake, I know we can never go out again...but maybe, just for one night, we can pretend like you never left in the first place...just for one night..." He leaned in and kissed Jake. Jake was hesitant to return it; he was still unsure about this.

"J, what's wrong," Buzz asked after Jake hurriedly broke the kiss.

"I...I don't know about this, Buzz. I just don't know! We both just got out of pretty heavy relationships, and...what if we fall for each other again?"

"J, you told me five years ago, when we started dating, that life isn't about the what if's, it's about what is. And I'm not asking for a relationship, either. I'm just asking for you to be with me, for just one night. No consequences, no inhibitions, no 'what if's.' Just you and me, the way it used to be."

"I...I still don't know, Buzz. Let's...I'll think it over while we eat, ok? Then we can talk some more about it. Just...drop it for now, ok?"

"Alright. I'm gonna hold you to that, though." The food arrived shortly after and they talked of nothing much while they ate. Buzz told Jake all about his plans for his novel, and how much Jake had influenced his writing. Jake talked about all his plans for working at the casino, since his aunt had even mentioned something about putting him in charge. This conversation got them all the way through the pasta and ¾ of the way through the wine.

"So," Buzz said as they put the bottle of wine back in the ice, "Have you been thinking about what I asked?"

"Of course I have, Buzz. How could I not be?"

"And...what do you think?"

"I think," Jake said, rising to peel off his polo shirt, "it's time we stopped talking."

"Oh, J..." Buzz was left speechless as Jake continued to strip. He motioned towards the Jacuzzi hot tub at the other end of the room.

"Care to join me," he asked with a sultry smile on his face. Buzz practically tripped over himself in his rush to get all his clothes off, tossing his boxers to the side as he sprinted to the tub. He made no effort to hide his raging erection; then again, he didn't really have much need to. It's not like it was anything Jake hadn't seen before, after all. He slid into the tub next to the husky, sighing in pleasure as the warm water rose up his body, relaxing him. He put his arm around Jake's shoulder and held him close, for the moment merely thankful that he was there. They kissed again, much more passionately this time, their tongues dancing in each others' mouths.

"Oh, Buzz," Jake moaned as Buzz broke the kiss and moved his mouth downwards and began kissing the husky's orange-furred neck.

"Hm, you like that, don't you, my little Dreamsicle?" Jake gasped. 'Dreamsicle' had been Buzz's pet name for him while they were dating - he used it because of the white and orange swirl pattern on his stomach.

"Oh yeah, I like that...Rupie." It was Buzz's turn to gasp now. He had forgotten that Jake had even given him that name all those years ago. Jake was one of the very few people in the world Buzz had introduced himself to as Rupert. It didn't bother him when Jake used his real name, he was never really sure why. He felt around under the bubbly water until he found Jake's cock. Jake moaned even louder as he felt Buzz's paw wrap around his throbbing member. Buzz moaned as well as Jake mimicked his actions. Soon both of them were jacking each other off furiously. Both of them were moaning and grunting in pleasure. They threw back their heads as they both shot their loads into the bubbly water. Their breath mixed with the steam as they both panted furiously, basking in the afterglow of their orgasms. They kissed again, and were soon exploring each others' bodies with their hands. Jake got out of the tub slowly after prying Buzz's hands off his ass with some difficulty. He shook the water off his tail, and Buzz had to shield his face with his arm. Jake returned soon after with a small bottle of KY lube.

"Ready, Rupie?" Buzz nodded feverishly and took the bottle of lube. He squirted some onto Jake's tight hole and began massaging it in with a finger. He squirted some more onto his other paw and applied it to his cock. He set his pointed cockhead at Jake's ass and leaned over him to kiss him. Jake broke the kiss rather quickly and whispered, "Fuck me, Buzz. Fuck me now!" Buzz needed no further encouragement and began to slide his cock into Jake's ass. His hot rod slid easily into Jake's tight hole thanks to all of the lube. He soon got a steady rhythm going, his knot hitting Jake's sphincter each time he slid back in. He reached under Jake's stomach and grabbed his cock, jacking it off as he fucked him. Jake groaned with pleasure as Buzz's knot slowly penetrated his ass, stretching it to the limit. Once Buzz was fully in, it was quite impossible for him to get back out, so he instead started to give short, fast thrusts. Both of them were panting heavily, enjoying the pleasure immensely.

"Uhh..oh, J....I'm gonna *uff* cum..."

"Do it...do it, Rupie...*unf*...I want it in me..."

Buzz howled loudly as he emptied his load into Jake's hot, tight ass. Jake came at the same time, his cum spraying onto the carpet. Buzz slumped over his back, panting heavily. They kissed again, and waited until Buzz's knot shrank enough for him to pull out. They retired to the shower and cleaned each other off. They opted to sleep in the same bed, and cuddled together, both wishing that the night could last forever.
